Ive been using Townsend for over 25 years now. They have supplied my propane faithfully over the years. I also had my furnace repaired by them. Their service is excellent! I highly recommend them as a service provider. They also have a division that offers both private and business insurance.
Highest oil prices in area by .50 cents consistentlyI Asked to be taken off automatic delivery but they still delivered. 2.99 a gallon on 06/07/21. Wow
I emailed Jim Townsend yesterday because I was concerned about the age of my oil tank. Mr. Townsend called me back within 5 minutes and told me that one of his employees would contact me to help me figure this out. I received a call within about no more than 10 minutes after that from Jeff at Townsend Energy who left me a very detailed message about how he would help me figure this out. (I wasnt able to respond to either of them yesterday.) When I got home, I remembered that our oil tank was only a couple of years old, so this wasnt an issue. (I know - Im blaming my lack of memory cells on the pandemic.) But I called Jeff back early this morning and left him a message explaining that it wasnt an issue any more and thanking him for being so responsive. I then called Mr. Townsend because I wanted to thank him and tell him how great and responsive Jeff was as well. I am one of many, many customers with Townsend Energy, but anytime Ive ever contacted them about anything, the response has always been swift, courteous and helpful. If youre not happy with your oil company, then Townsend Energy is the place to go. Sorry for the book - lol - but Townsend is worth it. :)
UPDATE: Townsend installed mini-split AC units at my house this summer and did a great job on the three hottest days of the summer so far. Very pleased with their work, and their quote was very reasonable (I had several companies bid on the job, and they werent anywhere near the highest). They showed up when they said they would and worked with me to ensure that the placement of the conduits would work with windows I was having installed.OLDER REVIEW: I had a new oil burner and boiler installed last month. They did a great job, they were polite, answered all of my questions, and left everything shipshape. Very impressed.
Just want to tell you about my recent experience with Townsend Energy. On Monday, June 7, 2021, I had the pleasure to meet Mr. Warren Laquerre, who was filling my propane tank. As we spoke…, I mentioned that I was unhappy with the very old 100 lb. propane tank which had no gauges. I told him that I had to call Townsend the last two times to deliver propane because I had unknowingly run out of propane. He stated that he would put in a request for a newer tank that came with gauges. It was a very nice and respectful encounter which left me smiling.Well two days later, I was so surprised to see two trucks returning to my home. Yes, Mr. Warren Laquerre exceeded my expectations. Not only is he blessed with a very cheerful and enthusiastic personality but he’s a man of his word. I want to thank Warren for delivering the upgraded tank.I also wish to acknowledge Scott MacNeil, the other representative, who helped install the tank. Townsend Energy should be proud to have these two skillful employees who demonstrated exceptional service and especially to Warren who clearly and accurately responded to my concern.
Tony responded to our facility to assess the reason for no heat. He was courteous, pleasant and very efficient. He had the heat up and running in no time at all! Great service all around!
I recently had a new heating system installed by Townsend Energy. I am beyond pleased with the results. Job was done in one day !! Radiators that hadnt worked for years, are now functional, and the heating system is so quiet, and performs to perfection! A very satisfied customer. Brian Thayer was so prompt in my request, and had the heating system appointment arranged very quickly, which we appreciated very much . He has checked the heating system since installation, to make sure we do not have any issues. Thank You for such sensational work.

Lost heat last week and Townsend responded with same day service. Replaced the furnace in two days and had the heat back up and running. Excellent service and excellent people. I am highly recommending Townsend to all of my friends and family.
Matt and John have been outstanding to work with going back to 2016 when we had Townsend replace our propane tanks. My family moved to a new house in 2018 and we were pleased we could transition our account to support the new heating oil system. We had an issue with our furnace last winter - and they had a tech at our house to fix it almost immediately. This is a great family business and they truly care about their customers!

The Technician arrived on time (I am VERY time sensitive), was neatly dressed, had all the necessary information and tools and was ready to perform the service. He diligently worked in a professional manner and finished within the time frame originally estimated. Once done, he reviewed with me what was done and discussed options to protect my (oil) heating system further. He demonstrated good customer service skills by inquiring if the home has smoke detectors (yes); heat detectors (yes); gas detectors (yes) and CO2 detectors (yes). I was very satisfied with the quality of the service performed.

I was very impressed with Townsends responsiveness and professionalism related to various service calls. They were there immediately when we had a gas leak. When we needed to connect our gas fire pit to our propane tank they coordinated having the inspector come out on a timely basis and they were there immediately when we needed them to connect the gas line. I cant say enough how happy I was with the service that Joe Gurry and his team of Tom and Nick provided me. They were courteous, professional and responded to my needs on a timely basis. The people there are highly professional and if they say they are going to do something...it gets done and more. Just put a whole new furnace system in my house and thy came back three different times to make sure it was working properly and that we were happy with their installation. Our 25 year old boiler needed to be replaced. Brian Thayer of Townsend Energy provided us with options to replace. After discussing these options we decided to go with the Resolute 90+ system. We can not be more pleased. The Townsend install team led by Matt Comeau were professional and did an excellent job. The system is so quiet you do not know it is even running.
My rep was friendly, courteous and a true professional. He took the time to go over everything he was going to do. Then he reviewed what he did with me at the end. He seemed knowledgeable and provided some basic tips to help me with a few things. Great experience and I hope Vinny comes back to our place next year.
Brendon quickly identified our furnace problem as a simple fix, and was out of our house in about 30 minutes. We were only charged for the service call, with no extraneous charges.
Vinny has been out to our home for the past two years for our annual heating system check. He is always friendly, thorough in his work and explains what he has done and how the system works or should work in an easy to understand manner. I would highly recommend him to anyone in need of the service.

My wife and I recently moved into a house with an old furnace. When the furnace started making a strange noise we called Townsend. Less than 24 hours later Allen stopped by and examined the issue. I cannot say enough kind words about Allen. He was professional knowledgeable and above all very kind and friendly. As a new house owner he taught me about my furnaces and gave me recommendations on how best to maintain them in the coming years. When we have future problems I’ll certainly be hoping it’s Allen whose sent over.
We had a question about the rather dramatic change in our monthly budget charge and decided to use the “Ask Jim” feature. Well, we received a call back by Jim in about 10 minutes! A general discussion about fuel prices, etc. ensued and then we were promised a more detailed analysis of our fuel consumption (after switching to a new Buderus boiler 2 years ago) once reviewed more closely. We received later that same day an email with all the necessary explanation and resolution of our budget issue. Thank you to Jim and Deanna! It always pays to ask questions......but it also helps to have someone hear and respond. Well done.
Townsend representative Kevin was really nice and accommodating. For the site visit, he showed up on time and explained what they can and cannot do. I was converting from oil to propane. Though his company would do the installation, he was willing to work with my plumber. Due personal issues, I had postponed the installation 4 times and he stayed patient. Finally when the plumber was ready, I asked Kevin to rush the installation within two days and he did it. There was no fuss. I am not the guy who writes a lot of reviews but I would recommend Kevins service to anyone who is looking for Propane.

The Townsend team did a great job installing a Rennai direct vent tankless water heater at our house in Kingston, NH. The water heater works great and is amazingly silent. Mike and team was very friendly, responsive, and a pleasure to deal with.
Why is it that Richard never calls you back no matter how many messages you leave. if you company doesnt want a customer for business then this is the way to go. extremely frustrating that you get no response from him. if he cant get back to you then either replace him with some competent who will or have someone else get back to you so we arent left hanging. NOT GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE!!!!!!!!

I had an issue during a heat wave with my HVAC system in one of my rental units. The guys at Townsend were able to get the issue resolved within 24 hours. Their response time and effectiveness to fix the system was extraordinary. I highly recommend using Townsend if you want top notch service during the most extreme weather conditions.
All good, particularly the advice your rep gave to us. Also he was clearly proud of his work, which tends to improve anyones performance. Hope to see him again next time.

Ive had Townsend Oil for several years now. They may be priced a bit higher than other oil companies but you get what you pay for. Ive always received excellent customer service from them. Any issues I had with my heating system was taken care of promptly. Yes, I could probably get my oil cheaper somewhere else (pay on delivery) but not sure I would get the excellent customer service. Also, I like the fact that I dont have to call them for an oil delivery. Something I dont have to worry about during the winter because they automatically do it. Im also on a budget plan with them and when those oil prices go down, like they have this year, they are willing to work with me on the price and give me the lower price.
Excellent service. I love this oil company! I never have to worry about deliveries and they offer a very fair payment plan.

You better have a service contract if you want to use these guys. Part that sells on line for $25 - $187 cost $350 from these guys and no way to tell what quality they installed (no box or part number left). Hourly rate is $225/hour for emergency service. Unbelievable.

Horrible experience. My elderly parents had several issues with Townsend Energy. During the winter 2015 they experienced FIVE times when the deliveries were not made. As a result my parents had no heat for a total of TEN DAYS. Even when they arrived on several occasions they demanded that my parents clear a path to the oil fill.I cleared the path and subsequently the company did not return for three days. After having Townsend Oil for 25+ years, I decided to go to another local company that is able to meet my parents expectation of delivery. Also, the prices are close to a dollar more per gallon compared with other more organized companies.I think the customers are paying for the familys posh lifestyle. Focus on your customers and get your deliveries completed.

Townsend is a good company, to me totally overpriced, yet they have great people. That’s perhaps and hope where the correlation is: they get good people who love the company cause management cares for them and must pay well.I am a former hedge fund ceo and founder. I used to hire people. In some ways that was my job, better people always. A service company thrives and also often dies because of people. Townsend knows how to hire great people. Today 7/19/19 I had another example. His name is Harry like in the movie. He was exceptional, not good, exceptional. Normal service call for A/C system. No one had told him it was geothermal! He looked at me and said « don’t worry technology is often redondant » I am not exaggerating he was out of my house in half an hour with the whole system working (capacitor issue). All set all done! Handshake and Harry was gone. Good job guys. He makes you all proud of being part of this organization. And by the way I have nothing to gain in writing this. I am a local business owner in Beverly, MA. Recently, I was having problems with my air conditioning unit. I called Townsend Energy and they arrived the SAME day ready to help. The service tech, Brian Mustaccio, was absolutely fantastic and extremely knowledgable. He fixed the problem then thoroughly went over the entire system to make sure all units were up to par and ready for the summer heat. Thank you Townsend Energy for being there when I need you!

Initially had a problem with getting my pool heater fixed. Had the technician out twice and then they referred it to a vendor who specialized in pool heaters. While it took a couple months to actually get it fixed, Townsend did stick with me until the job was completed. Their delivery is also very fast and they charge the market rate even if you just get a delivery once or twice a year; unlike Eastern Propane who, after being a customer for decades, wanted to charge more than twice the going rate for propane because I only get a couple of deliveries a year.

We were very disappointed in our experience with Townsend, particularly in the past year. Even though we were on automatic delivery, we had to call every time that we needed to be filled up. Even when we called, we were told one date and then a delivery would come weeks later. Finally, we terminated our contract with them and they said they would pick up our propane tank a month ago. It is still sitting in my yard, and they have not picked it up. Their customer service is terrible and leaves customers without heat or any plan to get heat. For your own safety and warmth, choose a different provider.

We have been a customer of Townsend since moving to New England in August 2016. During the record low temperatures we experienced at the beginning of this year, we ran out of propane. It was evening when we realized we were out, and the temperature in the home was steadily dropping. We accessed our online account to report our empty status and request delivery. This was the first time we had ever needed to contact Townsend, and I was unsure of what their response would be (as we were seeing on the news that some people were having to wait days for deliveries). A Townsend driver was at our home the next morning at 800am to fill our tanks. He was courteous, thorough, kind, and not rushed. We truly appreciate Townsend’s responsiveness, as things could have been much worse for us.

Did a poor quality job on some work that needed to be done on a existing home heating oil furnace. Considering they get top dollar, I expected a quality job, it wasnt. The Tech and his helper seemed unfamiliar with my system. When the job was over received a bill for an additional $800 over the quote for unexpected problems, I am sure most of it stemmed from the fact they didnt know what they were doing. Didnt do some work the salesman said they were going to. I was overseas working when the work was done so I was unable to supervise or inspect the finish job.I bought their fuel oil for a while which is biofuel, this caused some additional problems with my system that disappeared as soon as I switch to another vendor with #2 home heating oil. Once again if they had been familiar with my oil furnace they could have warned me about this issue. Avoid people who are unfamiliar with the system you have. Most reputable HVAC contractors will not work on systems they are unfamiliar with, apparently Townsend doesnt have a problem with this. I paid for their learning.
First of all, to all those who say the price is fair, they haven’t compared to most other companies. But the reason Im writing a review is because they ruined our hardwood floors and blamed it on us. This is the worst experience I have ever had with a company and I wouldnt recommend them to my worst enemy.
Dealing with Townsend Oil has truly been one of the worst experiences Ive ever had in dealing with a home services vendor, and I dont think my wife and I will ever use them again, even if theres an emergency.This past Saturday, I went to a dinner for the evening, and we ran out of oil unexpectedly (my wife and I are new homeowners), so my wife (who stayed home) called Townsends 24/7 emergency hotline (found on Google) for an emergency fill-up of 10-15 gallons until someone was able to come out during the work week and fill the tank completely. We were told that someone would come out on Monday -- and that the labor fee for the emergency fill-up ($187) would be applicable to filling the tank. So far so good.Then, after calling multiple times on Monday to see when a technician/person who fills the tank was coming, the day ended without anyone coming to fill the tank. So, again, we had to have an emergency fill-up of 10-15 gallons to make certain that we didnt go without warm water and heat for the evening. Thankfully, they didnt charge us for this encounter, but there was no heads up or communication whatsoever on when a technician might be coming over (which is entirely disrespectful of customers time -- really, not even a window?). And, when the technician came over, he said the previous emergency technicians decision and recommendation to shut off the lines to one of the tanks (we have two, because its an older home with tight corners in the basement) would potentially cause problems (air bubbles) with the line later on, after opening it to be filled.Today, we were left a bill for the full amount of the oil filled, despite their promise that if we decided to fill our tank with them during regular hours that they would subtract the labor charge. I called to try to get clarity on the arrangement, and the lady who answered the phone not only was entirely unhelpful, but also was very rude. After I took the time to explain the entire situation, she basically asked me a question indicating that she hadnt listened to anything Id said. I asked if shed heard what Id just said, and she said that she didnt. Then she told me that I should just go ahead and pay the full bill and that theyd already subtracted the total from the bill.I called my wife to confirm, and she told me that this was, in fact, not true. Shed written a check on Saturday to Townsend, and bill was a direct calculation of the cost of oil for the gallons poured into the tank. So, my wife called, and reportedly also received very rude treatment from the lady on the phone, who told her that they check shed written on Saturday (its now Tuesday) hadnt been processed, and no one had recorded any notes on the account. She told my wife to call back on Monday. So, its now been a few days, time and money has been expended, and the failures in communication continue. Not only that, but we still havent resolved the issue, and are told that the burden is on us to get them to clarify the matter.Needless to say, Im non-plussed, and dont plan to use their services again. I post this review as a warning to others who may happen upon them on Google.
I wish I didnt have to give them a star. I had Townsend Oil and they claimed to deliver oil to me which was not delivered. I can prove it as there was no footprints int he snow, and my tank ran out. They refused to admit their mistake until I told them I was out of oil and they HAD to send some one out. Then, although they claimed they credited my account, they still charged me for the delivery. These guys make Comcast look like custmoer support rock stars!!
