Great place! I love the old-school vibes this place gives off. I honestly cant thank owner enough for what hes done. My bike was in a terrible shape and needed a new front wheel. I got what I asked for and more for an extremely reasonable price! The service was extremely quick and excellent. I would give this place 10 stars if I could!
Ive been looking for a cheap bike to cruise around from here to there. During the pandemic, its much more difficult to figure out who what when places are open. Going to a big box place is rough because no one is able to answer questions. Went by this spot, saw bikes out front saw one I like and the owner was so gracious and informative. To the point, old school and much appreciated. I needed to run home (walk home to get cash to pay) and he let me ride the bike home and back! That might have been because he knew the person I was with as a previous customer but still, that kind of honor system feels good and they business should be able to run when we dont know take advantage. Im very happy with my new used bike!
Great prices and service. Thank you Rich! I got two tires from Rich’s shop later when I installed I realized my tube was bigger than expected creating a lump I came back to his shop and he volunteered fixing the lump in couple minutes Rich knows I appreciate.
The salesperson is very very rude. Not a great person. Really really bad experience!
I went in today and was looking for a basic starter bike - the owner didnt want to serve me and said we are not on the same page - and asked me to leave. very rude, insensitive - wont be going back.
I have bought two bikes from Rich and have had a great experience both times. He has a great selection of old bikes that he fixed up himself and they’re in great shape. His pricing is fair and he guarantees the bikes for 4 months after purchase. I will continue to come back for tune ups and would recommend to anyone looking for a used bike!
I called the owner to report my stolen bike. He said he was too busy to take down my information and said he doesnt purchase stolen bikes. I called back to ask if he would simply take down the serial number, but he was extremely rude and hung up on me abruptly. Every other bike shop I called in Davis and Woodland were polite and cooperative. Not this guy. Complete jerk.
Doesnt like business ::shrug::
Couldnt figure out why my tire was getting flatter by the day so I brought it to Davis Bike Exchange. The owner let me choose between putting a patch on the hole where it was leaking or to replace the inner tubing. I chose the latter and he replaced my inner tubing, tightened my fender, and oiled my chain only for $13. He worked extremely quickly and finished in about 10 minutes. His dog named Pup is a total sweetheart too. Will definitely return in the future!
I went to three other bike shops before arriving at the Davis Bike Exchange. It is one of the smallest in town, but has good prices and selection, and the guy working there is really nice and helpful. He didnt try to push any bicycles on me (like some of the other shops) and was really patient with me as I tried a bunch of bikes before I bought one. Each bike comes with a four month warranty, and when one of the spokes mysteriously broke on my rear wheel, he fixed it free of charge. A great place, I have been recommending it to all my friends since!
I bought a bike there today. Their prices are great and the owner is an extremely nice man that seems to really care about his customers. He buys your bike back from you when you dont need it anymore. As a bonus, Pup is the cutest Australian Shepherd I’ve ever seen.Thank you!
Rich is the best bike man in town and is fair, guarantees the bikes and his wor, and is fast fixing bikes up. The only thing that I could imagine complaining about is that he closes shop on Mondays to go fishing...but, he opens up on Saturdays. You will not find a better bike place in Davis or the entire area. Hes been around for many many years.
I found the perfect bicycle - just the one I was looking for!I shopped around for a road bicycle to commute through Davis. Richard at the Davis Bike Exchange helped me find the right style of bicycle for my size, tastes, and price range.Hes dealt with every type of bicycle around, and knows his stuff. When I need service or advice for my bicycle, I know just the place to go!
During my purchase, I asked him a couple of questions about the basket I was going to buy, on the third question, he said: you are bugging me, man! Leave my shop!!!I mean that was rude, weird, and absolutely unbelievable!
I love this place, a real family-owned little corner bike shop full of rebuilt old bikes and parts. My favorite of course is the price, $75 to completely overhaul a 30-year-old bike from France that was rusting in my garage, and $14 to replace a flat and clean my chain, tube included. Look around at the other bike shops, you cant beat them. Competent, fast, no-frills, excellent service, what more can you ask for?
One of the best places to get your bike fixed in Davis! My bike was in a terrible condition and now its as good as new! The guy who fixed my bike was extremely professional and knowledgeable.
Very nice guy in the new location down the road. Went well above and beyond to get my sons old clunker running again. I will DEFINITELY be going back here for any future purchase or service. Thanks!
Found just the bike I was looking for here. The staff person working at the time was very knowledgeable. He helped me find a bike that fit my size and price range. They have a good selection of used bikes with good prices. They give you a four month gaurentee on the bikes. I would definitely recommend it to others.
Been getting my bike fixed for years by this guy. Hes a little rough, but if you talk like a human to him he will treat you right. One of the best bike builders here in Davis and will always go to him for a bike repair.
Straight and to the point. Be forward with Richard and all will be well. He is hard of hearing so be clear and precise.Earlier this week my friends font wheel was stolen. I stopped by other local Davis bike shops and could not find a proper rim replacement. Not only did Richard have the proper 26 by 1.95 rim, it was even a quick release setup for mere $25. A much better deal than any other bike shops.I appreciate Richards help in turning bad karma into a pleasant resolution. If you are looking for a super clean shop, avoid DBE. However if you are looking for a straight forward transaction. This is the bike shop for you. It may not spotless but it is exactly what most need.
Best place in Davis to go to service your bike or get used parts. Excellent prices. Rich, the owner, is super knowledgable, kind, and ready to help out.
Extremely friendly and professional. If you’re nice he’ll also let you pet his doggo.
The owner was very knowledgeable and gave me a great deal with some additional add ons!
Buyer beware. I had a verbal agreement to purchase a bicycle for $200. When he called me back to tell me it was ready he wanted $250. When I reminded him of our agreed-upon price he told me he had somebody who would pay $350 for it and hung up on me. Owner was very hostile and obviously not a man of his word.
Im in the process of moving and I needed to sell or donate four brand-new bicycles and several hundred dollars worth of bike tools (Ive been involved with cycling, in various ways, for more than 50 years). Since the Bike Exchange has been taking care of cyclists without a lot of money for a long time, I decided to just donate them to this shop.I pulled up outside with the first couple of bikes in the SUV and walked around and into the side door. Entering from the bright sunlight, all I could see was a mass of shadowy, hanging bikes (Im 66, my eyes dont adjust as fast as they used to). I called out, Hello! and a friendly, chubby little dog came out to greet me. I asked, loudly enough to be heard, if any humans were in charge. At that point, I heard a gruff What do you want? from somewhere behind the mass of bikes.Oriented, somewhat, by the sound of the voice, I saw the outline of a human, at a bench, with his back to me, through the bikes. I called back, If I can get your attention for a minute, Id like to make a donation. The response from the charming fellow (I assume it was the owner), still without approaching or even turning from his bench, was a sarcastic, Should I stand at attention? Say yes, Sir and no, Sir?My answer was that he should go perform an impossible act on himself. Another good cause got the bike donations.I suspect that its too late for this guys mother to teach him manners, and Im surprised that no one else seems to have given him the required lessons. Too bad.Terrible experience. Luckily, this individual didnt speak to me in this manner 20 years ago.
Ive been here several times over the years and had many bikes tuneup and upgraded. Good prices and helpful.
Rich is always there to help with reasonable prices and professional work.
DO NOT GO TO THIS BIKESHOP!!!!!!!!! The employees/owner are terrible!! I wish I could give this business zero stars. My husband suggested that a certain bike frame the shop carried probably wouldn’t fit my height and the gentlemen in the shop argued him and then told my husband to get out of his shop. When my husband told him that the reviews were right, that the employees are extremely rude, he told my husband “You’re asking for an whoopin’’”. It was truly surreal. I have never left a google review before, but this experience was so repulsive that I don’t want anyone else to have to deal with it. Please save your time and go somewhere else.
Very rude and unprofessional old guys.I went in looking for a wheel for my wifes bike that I am building and all they did was talk smack about the Davis Bike Collective, just because I am a volunteer. I dont know what beef they have with a non-profit bike garage that only has volunteers that try to help other people with their bike troubles. Not only did they talk trash, but they gave me the run around. They answered non of my questions and made me feel unwelcome. No matter who comes into your store, you should always be courteous and helpful. I was going to make a purchase, but I thought wrong.
Horrible! My parents went there to put a fender, rack, and basket on my bike, and when my dad pointed out that the front fender was loose, the employee there swore at my poor parents and ripped off everything he installed on the bike. He refused to give further service.
Truly a one of a kind place. Price wise I think the best.
Classic, old-school, no nonsense, conservative with conversation, keep it bikes related, fair and reasonable.
Depends on the guy whos working that day, but in my experience these guys get the job done and charge reasonable prices. Ive been coming to the Davis Bike Exchange for 4 years now and think theyre the best bike shop in town!
Hella rude, went to make a purchase on some parts. The guy didnt have the part i wanted so i said ok. Ill buy it on Amazon, thats when he wanted nothing to do with me. Talk hella trash. Unprofessional.. this place is a must stay away. Needs to be shut down.. Hella dirty, even the people working there is dirty. Rude crack heads...
AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE EBOLA.Profane, rude, obnoxious self-claimed owner (presuming not the entrepreneurial and customer-service orientated business creator of the family given the absolute lack of customer service but, simply born into the family business). On Thanksgiving Eve while putting bikes in his shop he felt it fit to yell and assault and threaten a friend smoking around the corner, outside his shop (nowhere near the entrance and at night when it was closed) then began yelling at me, not smoking but speaking with my friend, doing so with his shorter bedraggled transient and indigent bearded friend. The portly self-proclaimed owner along with his indigent unkempt servile and sycophantic assistant then began to extol his boss virtuous glories as a golden gloves boxer in a desperate move to intimidate. I found this particularly hilarious given this self-proclaimed owners visage and portly corpus had clearly given way to something not unlike the effects of alcohol and a poor and/or excessive diet). The shop itself is clearly not state or federally A.D.A. (Americans with Disabilities Act) compliant. Given the recent settled out-of-court lawsuits of Sacramento/Davis business including but not limited to the: Squeeze Inn, Redrum Burger et. al. one would expect a friendlier reception. If youre looking for a shop with great customer service, an owner who treats prospective buyers and bike repair seekers well...this IS NOT THE PLACE.AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE EBOLA!
Rude, filthy placeenough rust to fill a bathtub...
Very very rude and unprofessional service
Awestruck by how awful this place is.
