They will give me a completion date, and will go missing for days at a time after they have failed to meet that date. I own the Horny Toad Café & Bar and have done business in Denton for almost 30 years. Ive had good and bad experiences, but none so egregious as what I experienced with the owner SL Jones. I actually feel a responsibility to warn others. Yes, I signed a contract & gave a check for 50%. However, just 24 hours later I became aware of a business issue that was going to tap us financially. I immediately contacted SL to cancel. His response was that he had already ordered materials and that there may be restocking fees. I agreed that was on me and I would cover any reasonable expenses. Later he indicated that his suppliers would only give him an in-store credit for the materials he had just ordered. We put a stop payment on the check & informed SL of this fact but assured him we would work with him on any expenses. Over the course of the next days, I received a barrage of texts and religious quotes with his insistence that he could only get an in-store credit. I really didn’t believe he couldn’t get money back for unopened materials & was starting to doubt he ordered any materials at all, so asked him to send me a photo of the invoice so we could discuss it. His response via text: “I need your last name or your partner’s last name to go on the complaint to the district attorney for the illegal stop payment. Now this will cost you far more than that check amount.” Really? My last name is Trawick. I may lose $1225 over this deal but I’m going to let everyone know what a crook you are.
