This is my custom Summit Bb trumpet made by the great Jason Harrelson and his team!I have owned many trumpets, but this is the one to beat them all. I have talked to many about how this is the easiest to play and easiest to get the sound that is in my mind. I am so thankful for the excellent and quick work from HT. Ive stopped by the shop numerous times for numerous occasions and Ive always had a wonderful time testing horns, learning new things about the trumpet and CNC technology, and much more! So its been about 3 weeks since I visited and purchased my new Summit Bb trumpet. Ive been playing for a lot of years and on many different levels and horns. By far this is the best looking, sounding and playing horn Ive ever owned. Not just saying it because it wasnt cheap. The ease in which air moves through horn is amazing slurring is so easy l amaze myself. Only draw back I can find is, its a little heavier than what Im used to, but no big deal. Visiting the shoo was amazing Jason, Christin and Sean were awesome. Jason taught and old dog like me new tricks. I met amazing people probably friends for life.If you are thinking of going to Harrelson Trumpets. Stop wasting time and get off you butts and go. Its well worth it!!!!

Picked up the trumpet late in life and spent the first few years learning on a few older used trumpets Witt some success. After knowing I was hooked, I decided to invest in a better horn. First thought was a Bach, but then came across Harrelson and the videos and information Jason provided on YouTube really caught my interest. I was lucky enough to get a great deal on a custom H series plus a 5mm MP and I could not be happier. Love the sound and my playing improved immediately. Bought my Harrelson Bravura in 2012 & its been such a fantastic horn, I cant imagine playing anything else! Its so versatile, I can use it playing lead with fantastic presence or in a concert band situation where blending is key! Obviously, its been a long time since I went through the build process, but Jason & his staff were fantastic to work with! His knowledge about the physics of trumpet playing can help you solve most playability issues you may have!

I’ve visited the shop twice now and have ordered from here many times. Jason and the crew have always been nice to me and just a fountain of knowledge in general. I will admit that the communication got a little thin as they were quite busy during the pandemic, and I’d be given a time period in which my horn would be completed and it ended up taking several months longer. However, the end product is superb and any issues that I ran into have been resolved. Sometimes it takes some work on my end, but it is my horn now and my responsibility. This was in regards to my gold plating getting tarnish on the silver underneath. 5mm parts have been limited for the time being however I understand that Jason has been having some Health issues and did have his wedding fairly recently so I understand that there have been some speed bumps with that and hiring new workers. During my trips there and through YouTube and Social Media I’ve learned a great deal about myths and technical aspects of how a trumpet can be made, about the acoustics of the trumpet, pedagogy, and Jason’s concepts such as the VAriable Gap Receiver system, Standing Wave Efficiency, and Maximum Bell Resonance. I’m still in contact with Jason and can’t wait to see what he makes next. I would recommend his services as well as visiting the shop at some point. More importantly, just get to know him on a personal level and be a decent human being. It was worth it for me 10 times in the end.

Starting with equipment, I own a Harrelson Trumpet and a 5mm mouthpiece. My trumpet is the best horn I have played, and I have played quite a few. I have played professionally, put the trumpet down and now back into it. Coming back into it was when I really started looking for a new horn and started to learn more about Harrelson Trumpets. Thats when I made the jump and is the best investment I made. The efficiency of the trumpet is only the beginning. The VGR system allows me to change the feel and sound of the trumpet. Basically, I can modify the trumpet to be open, dark and mellow (close to a flugel) to a lead, commercial horn.5MM is also awesome as I get to pick and chose my sound, depending on what I am playing. There are so many options and still playing around with them. I get you change the rim shape, cup diameter, throat and backbore. What this does is dramatically change the feel and sound in the matter of seconds.Every interaction I have had with Jason, Christine, Jen, and Sean has been nothing short than awesome service. Each one of them has taken time and patience with me to help with my goals. Jason backs everything up with 100%. I must state that since the first buy its a hit!! Started with the Gap Solution Kit for my Yamaha, two months later I was receiving a 5MM kit with a VRG I personally installed on my trumpet .Man that horn was for each upgrade easier and easier to play. So a month later I was in Denver, at Harrelson Trumpets to finalize detail and setup for a SUMMIT II custom trumpet.I could played the Muse trumpet that was just out of the press. It was a blast in sound, efficiency, handling and being able to test different bells and lead-pipes. It made it a piece of cake to find my perfect setup.I just had to play the horn with different configurations until I felt in love with the right one, both in feel, sound and projection. The Muse is really super efficient, more sound, less effort. You can feel where science meet sound in the instruments.Top of the cake was a friendly crew and warm welcome for the two afternoon I spent there. Jason is generous in details about how and why its build the way it is.I traveled all the way from France near Bordeaux, just for that and it was really worthy.Thanks again and see you soon

I purchased the 5mm mouthpiece system and the staff was excellent in helping me choose the perfect system! I turned right around and bought a new receiver, finger rings and Saturn water keys for my horn!

I have recently purchased one of Harrelsons 5MM mouthpieces, and they have been more than helpful to get me the right set up, sending me new components and sending components back to them, and all the transactions have been flawless along with their craftsmanship! Jason and the crew at Harrelson Trumpets were a joy to work with! I received my custom Summit in January of 2019, and it is by far my favorite horn I’ve ever owned. Their attention to detail and precision craftsmanship produced a horn that plays even better than I’d anticipated, and at a really reasonable price. When I was touring with the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey circus band & found out we were going through Denver, the first thing I did was make an appointment at Jasons shop. I asked him to upgrade my Bach Commercial trumpet. I dropped it off & picked it up on the day of the first show and could not believe the difference his customizations made! That was in 2016. Its 2021 and Im still playing the same horn. Thanks to his VGR Ive been able to adjust my gap and venturi once since visiting the shop (downsizing to a smaller venturi & going to no gap from just a little) which has been great! Hes turned my Bach into such an incredibly easy horn to play that sounds great. Ask Jason yourself, he even came out to see the circus while we were there! Such an amazing man with an amazing staff. Having played trumpet now for about 50 years, semi-professionally for 40 years, I feel robbed not to have discovered Jasons work earlier. A few months ago, I picked up a Summit 2 pipe/1x bell built in 2015. I found it for an amazing price, and having owned just about everything under the sun including a new Monette P3, Bachs, Eclipse, Benges, Taylor, Yamahas, etc. etc., I figured, why not give it a shot! I was immediately blown away by the horns responsiveness, outstanding intonation, and depth of sound. The VPS system was so innovative in that it enabled adaptation to any mouthpiece and desired gap. Great service when purchasing my 5MM. Jason sent a couple of other options with rims and throats for me to try out. Im glad he did, because I actually picked the trial rim he sent.The whole 5MM system is fantastic. It is a tad daunting at first, but the more you use it, the more it makes sense. Its a brilliant system, and well worth the investment.

This is a really great addition to any trumpet, the VGR works great on my old trumpet bringing out its full potential. I installed this VGR and plated it myself (well actually I refurbished and rebuilt the whole horn also this was the finishing touch). Now any of my mouthpieces modern or vintage will fit and play well.I also ordered a custom gap solution kit to my big bore trumpet that I measured inside the bottom of the reciever. It also turned out great giving that horn a new life and is so much easier now to play. It had a weird very big venturi and the kit changed it to a .340 precisionmade venturi instead and I was able to choose a good small gap setting for the mouthpiece I usually use with that horn.Both great products!I am very happy with the service and no other company that Im aware of would have even taken an order for any of this.

Response to owner: When did you ask me if I needed the item by a specific date? Please post a screenshot of when this occurred because I received no such message.Update: I was originally going to remove my negative review if I received the item, however, I decided against doing so. I had previously asked that someone call me so I could clear things up and come to an understanding with the owners. The day after I posted my review the owner (Jason) called me and let me know that they sent the item I bought which I was thankful for. He started off by explaining that they are moving their shop and have more than 300 messages/voicemails to go through. I told him I completely understand and I’m fine waiting longer for my order as long as I know. Jason told me after I initially wrote my review that there is a 4-6 week building time for all items. I said I have no problem with that as long as I know. He then said to me that he thought me writing 5 reviews was a bit much (I only wrote two). I told him I wrote the reviews because I was very upset at the time and hopes he can understand why. He replied with “If you use emotions to solve your problem then sure.” Which sounded very sexist and was quite ironic considering what he did next. I tried explaining to him that in the description of the item it said “ready to ship” and usually items that are ready to ship, ship within a few days after ordering. After not receiving my item or hearing anything after 2 weeks of waiting I searched their website for anything that mentioned how long it takes items to be shipped. When I told Jason this he said that their 4-6 week building time for items is not listed on their website and that instead of looking on the website I should of called them directly. This is when I explained to him that I did call, multiple times over different days. He then, very emotionally said to me “Then I guess you’re just right and I’m just wrong” and hung up on me. He clearly got so emotional that he could no longer conduct himself. However I don’t know why because I was talking very nicely on the phone and am a very reasonable person.Overall, I called the phone number listed on the website almost daily and got no answer and was sent to a completely full voicemail. So finally, I sent a message through their website and got no response. I would wait a few days and try again and finally I got a response and they told me my item would be shipped by the following Tuesday. I was perfectly fine with that until that Tuesday went and passed by 4 days and I still got no shipping notification. At this point I messaged them several more times and got no response. So finally I had it with them because it seemed to me that this may be a scam business. That’s when I wrote the review. As soon a soon as I wrote the review I got a response. It was clear that Jason was very upset. All I wanted was to be assured my item would ship. Usually businesses use customer reviews as a way for them to improve their website and the way they handle issues. Jason acted like a complete man-child on the phone. I am still in disbelief that he told me, I use emotions to handle my problems and then proceeded to get so emotional that he could no longer speak and hung up on me. I don’t recommend doing business with him.I did want to give credit to Jen (who I also believe to be an owner) who is much more reasonable. When I told her my concerns and why I wrote my review she completely understood the mistakes that were made on their part and she apologized for everything. I truly appreciated this. She explained what happened on their part which I am not upset about as long as I am in the loop now. She seemed very nice and clearly knows how to handle customer service issues. She should probably keep Jason away from talking directly to customers because he obviously can’t handle it. If you have a chance to do business and work with Jen I do recommend it.

I ordered a trim kit (top and bottom caps, finger buttons) for my horn 4 years ago and it changed my horn profoundly, adding ease and flexibility to my playing which increased my tone, proficiency and endurance. I recieved my 5mm 30p set 2 years ago and once again was able to increase my abilities. I have ordered a custom Harrelson trumpet that Jason his self has personally advised me on in person at his shop. His entire staff is knowledgeable and supportive. I am glad to know this craftsman and pioneer who is changing the way horns are made in a large step forward for brass instruments.

I just can’t say enough good things about my Harrelson 5mm mouthpiece and my Harrelson Trumpet. I just got a bigger diameter rim that really seems to be grooving with my lips. I’m playing around with what I can do and I’m finding more and more that it is enabling me to do. Jason has put his heart and soul into the science, development and artistry / manufacturing of these amazing pieces. The efficiency is beyond anything that I have ever experienced. The ability to change one little piece and completely change my sound or how it feels is still mind boggling. Needless to say, I could go on and on but I’ll just say that you are missing out if you have never tried one of his horns or mouthpieces.

This is the first time any mouthpiece has felt so comfortable. The combination of comfort and efficiency with the mouthpiece design has definitely helped my endurance. Looking forward to playing for many years on my mouthpiece. Update October 2018: had the chance to play some gigs with the mouthpiece and it performed beautifully. Was also able to tweak my setup to get a more focused sound. All this to say that after more playing with the Harreslon mouthpiece it continues to be a great piece of equipment.

I purchased a mod kit for my Bach Strad. It really helped out with the sound production and efficiency of the horn. The tone is much more centered and full. I am completely satisfied with my purchase. I can only imagine what one of Jasons horns would sound and feel like as well as his 5MM mouthpieces, but baby steps! I have dealt with Jason and staff for years now. I have never met anybody in person from HT staff. I do think they have put up with many in many misunderstanding in my part and are great small business company that I hope strives to a major success for the trumpet community. I have loved the amount of videos and education that Jason has devoted to his clients and customers. The staff is very patient with me and have help me make discussions in purchasing their products that help me. I had the pleasure of visiting Jason and the staff at Harrelson trumpets a few years ago with Gary Greenfelder. Gary was designing a new horn and I wanted to get 5MM mouthpiece. That experience was so worth the time and investment because Jason takes the time with each person to listen to their needs, hear them play and makes recommendations on what you should try. His knowledge and patience with his customers is unmatched in the industry.So far, I have purchased a VGR kit, trim kit and HT finger buttons to install on my Zues Olympus trumpet. I was able to do the installation myself with no experience. It has transformed this horn into one of my favorites to play. It is still my beater horn that I take everywhere.I then purchased a used Harrelson Bravura. What a great horn. I still have that one. I ask the previous owner why he would ever sell such a great horn. He bought a new Harrelson!I then purchased my dream horn, a slightly used Harrelson Midnight.It had a minor ding in the bell but what I didnt know when I bought it was that it also had a hairline fracture in the lead pipe. I thought this was just where the lead pipe was soldered together so I didnt think anything of it. One day I set my horn in the 5 leg stand and the lead pipe broke off.I was shocked. It broke right where that hairline seem was.Keep in mind I didnt buy this horn new from Jason but I sent him pictures and he confirmed that that had to happen from the horn falling over at some point or someone really trying to force a stuck mouthpiece and twisting it enough to crack it.Jason offered to build me a new lead pipe at cost and shipped it to me the same week. he also suggested a different lead pipe that fit me even better. I now love that horn even more than I did.Jason and his team are not FAST FOOD trumpet builders.They make the highest quality stuff and it is well worth it!7/27/2020 As a follow up to my previous review.I cleaned my horn the other day, was impatient and didnt let it dry completely before putting it all back together and started playing it.When I tried to take the mouthpiece out it was stuck.I tried everything I could think of with no luck.I emailed Jason on a Sunday night asking if he had any tips for getting it unstuck so I wouldnt forget to do it on Monday morning.To my surprise I received a response within about 90 minutes on a Sunday night with things to try and an offer to call him directly if I had no luck.I did call the next day and he personally gave me other options to try that did work!A simple problem that I caused, wasnt able to resolve, was embarrassed to ask for help because he is so busy but, as usual he goes above and beyond to help his clients.Thank you again Jason!!!!!P.S. Can you please start building cars?

My 11-year-old son admires the craftsmanship of the Harrelson trumpets and dreams of one day owning one. He recently purchased a Bach Trim Kit and 5MM Mouthpiece. He says that combined they make a huge improvement in his playing - allowing for a much bigger sound and less effort to reach the higher register. Hes very pleased with his purchase and I was impressed with the extraordinary customer service we received. He highly recommends that any serious trumpeter consider modifying their current trumpet with the Harrelson technology.

Amazing Pioneer of the Trumpet. My trumpet is gorgeous. I love my Sumit I so much. Beautiful craftsmanship. However, my 5mm mouthpiece is truly amazing. I t allowed me to hone in on the perfect mouthpiece.

Harrelson trumpet knows what they are taking about. They are very professional and their recommendations are on point.

Customer service is beyond great! These guys have consistently gone above and beyond all expectations. They willingly send parts to try, usually without charge, to try. They truly want to help! It doesnt hurt that they have the most innovative designs on the planet right now. If you havent, you owe it to yourself to try their horns and mouthpieces.

I love my Harrelson trumpet! It took longer to get than was estimated and it was missing bottom caps, which came later. It also took almost a year to get my 5MM and it wasnt what was originally ordered. I understand that boutique trumpets take time. Thats not the issue. A lack of communication is my biggest complaint. The horn......I love it.

The 5 mm mthpc kit was a game changer. Seems expensive until you do the math for several custom mouthpieces. And you can make small changes if you want.Also, getting different shanks for my rotary made a HUGE difference. Literally the best mouthpiece I have ever played on.

Harrelson trumpets are phenomenal. The customer service and knowledge from the staff is far beyond incredible. They put so much time, effort, and research into their designs and they make trumpet playing more fun. They make good trumpet players great by allowing them to fully unleash their True potential by not being held back from standard equipment. I work in music retail and I have a great appreciation for other people who work in the industry and truly have a passion for what they do. I currently play the Harrelson five piece modular mouthpieces, and hope to play there trumpets in the near future. Check them out. Disapointed in the service lately, bluntly lies now about inventory. STAY AWAY.

Ive purchased a mod kit for my Yamaha yz 6315zs and it has improved my sound and the feel of the horn. I also have a 5mm mouthpiece in 2c standard and it feels better then any mouthpiece Ive ever owned. There customer service is fantastic and have recommended them to any and all brass players I know and it have met. If I could afford it now I would purchase a horn today but at the moment Im deployed and not able to use one for the time being.

What a cool business! More than you could ever imagine... if you plan to visit for 30 min, expect to stay longer, you wont want to leave!

No words to describe just how satisfied I am with my new 5MM Modular mouthpiece. The 5MM is clearly the way of the future and why more people are not talking about this system is beyond me. I did an extensive amount of researching Jason and his company to make sure selling my lead Monette lead B6LS mouth piece and retiring my Monette B6S1 was not in vain. I now have the control to choose from my 20 piece kit to explore the perfect fit for my embouchure and facial structure. I am finding unique set ups for different playing style with ease.One thing that Jason said in one of his 5MM videos that stuck with me was that he was not offering a one magic mouthpiece solution like other makers. He states that what he has done is measure down to a science thousands of mouthpieces and has created a system that allows you the player to take lets say my B6LS and use what I love about its design but change out lets say the throat or backbone to better suit me. I HAVE THE POWER MUHAHAHAHA!!!I was able to pull from one set up the most full, dark and broad tone I have ever played with, while my second set up I was able to make my horn roar to life as I screamed out double G almost effortlessly still maintaining a mellifluous tone.In summary it was difficult letting go of what I was comfortable with for so long but I am excited I did. I have felt that my my current instrument would never need to be replaced however, after just a short time of practice I can now say Im not scared to save and purchase my first Harrelson horn this upcoming year. The Harrelson instruments transformed my abilities to play the high register with minimum effort!! His SWE instruments and 5MM mouthpieces unquestionably are the best available today.

As much as I hate to write this review, Jason and the team at Harrelson Trumpets have let me down immensely. I ordered a mouthpiece to match my trumpet from them in December of 2013 and was told that it was in the final stages of its design and that I could expect it to arrive in 2 months. Two months went by, 6 months went by, a year went by, a year and a half has now gone by, and despite me calling in every month or so to (in which every time I called they continued to tell me it will only be a couple more months) they have failed to produce a mouthpiece. Not only that, they have not taken any responsibility or shown any remorse towards me. I paid for the mouthpiece when I ordered it, and being a mechanical engineer by trade, I understand product design and deadlines extremely well. For them to be over a year and 4 months late on a deadline is unacceptable.*Update, it is Jan 19th, 2016 and my mouthpiece has still not arrived. This marks about 2 years and 2 months from when it was originally ordered.

It started with the search for the trumpet that would end the search for the perfect trumpet. During this quest I learned about Jason Harrelson, subscribed to his YouTube channel, read his blog entries and read about his many technological breakthroughs in making trumpets. I dreamt of one day owning one of his amazing feats of science and sound. I took baby steps, purchasing a trim kit for my Lawler model T at the time. It improved the balance and playability of the horn so much that I was an instant believer. I also Ioved the aesthetics of the trim kit. I continued to learn about HT concepts and his approach to making trumpets and everything Harrelson.I finally decided to do whatever it took to own a Harrelson trumpet. I took advantage of a sale and bought my first HT. A VPS summit jazz 4/10 with a 5mm mouthpiece. My search for the perfect trumpet had come to an end. I was blown away with the perfection of this instrument. What a difference in sound, intonation and efficiency. My wife reacted with a wow upon my first note. Ever since, my trumpet playing has gained momentum.When Jason introduced trumpet momentum something just clicked with me and it shattered my glass ceiling I had seemingly hit in my playing. Thank you for simplifying the seemingly complicated world of trumpet technicalities.I am very proud to be a backer of the kickstarter program for the momentum spinning top and look forward to future products such as the mini bell and aperture speed training device. Carbon fiber trumpets, aluminum bells and ergonomic valve casings are just a few of the ideas to look forward to. HT is on fire with ideas and supporters. Harrelsons team have always been lightning fast to respond to any of my questions and quick to deliver any in stock items. The community programs such as shop tours, informative videos and outreach programs for the trumpet community in New Orleans and abroad are commendable. I could go on and on.
