Zzz is hands down the best record store in Des Moines, and dare I say the entire state of Iowa. Nate and his staff are welcoming and knowledgeable, and they have been going strong now for over 20 years.

I mean, this has been my favorite place to buy records since 2002, so... yeah, its amazing - and has always been amazing. The owner is one of the nicest, most helpful people ever.

This place is pretty awesome! A lot of inexpensive records. I got tapestry, Simon and Garfunkel, and Styx, each for like 4-6 dollars. You have to search the bins to find stuff and I didnt find very many high demand items here, but its a blast to thumb through the bins and occasionally happen across something long forgotten for a really reasonable price. I love it. Ill be back.

This is the best record store in Des Moines, pretty objectively.I dont buy a ton of used vinyl here, mostly because the super good stuff they get goes so fast. Prices are very fair and appropriately scaled vs. condition of the record.However, their prices on new vinyl are great, and they have gone above and beyond several times to order, hold, or pre-order records for me.10/10 customer service.

Everytime I go into Zzz Records I walk out with 4 or 5 vinyl records. Zzz Records has an ever rotating inventory and can always find something to pique your interest, or take you down memory road to an old album or song from a time gone by.Best of all - the pricing! I think Zzz Records has the best prices in town for slightly used second hand vinyl.

Great record store. Fairly priced and very helpful staff. Found a nice little selection of new, more indie bands. Would love it even more if they stocked more ambient and electronica, but the stuff Im always looking for is a bit obscure. Love that they will order in whatever youre looking for, however, if you like.

Its hard to find places that still sell cassettes these days so I was really excited to find multiple big boxes full of them at zzz records. We spent at least an hour going through all of them and I left with a nice stack. Definitely will come back again another time!

Truly one of the best record stores Ive been to. Great selection, staff and pricing. They focus on quality used pressings, but they also have a nice selection of new and bargain bin records. Zzz is organized and everything is easy to find, if you are having trouble just talk to the staff. As a Denver resident, I was blown away by the pricing. They arent trying to gouge you or capitalize on the recent resurgence of vinyl. Instead they focus on what brought is there in the first place, the music.

The best for what they do which is primarily used vinyl. The owner, Nate, is incredibly approachable and is willing to chat music and Iowa music history. They also sell local CDs and used CDs.

Im new to town and wanted to check out a local record store close to downtown DSM and this place was a phenomenal find. Filled with new and used records, local music, music that covers all genres (my husband is an opera singer, so Im always on the lookout for classical records - and they had a decent selection) - not to mention loads of information about upcoming shows coming to Des Moines. The guy that was working when I came in was incredibly helpful, hilarious, and gave me great information about the store, as well as other record stores in the area in case I couldnt find what I was looking for. Im the type of guy that could spend hours in a music store or a book store browsing and slowly building a stack of finds, and this is one of the places I will likely spend free time finding those gems.

I only give it three stars because of the labels they had on the record stands, they had nearly none of the artists they represented. I know its for alphabetizing, but it was still disappointing. I didnt think the selection was that stellar, and theyre lacking new releases, which is disappointing but also hard to find in Iowa.
