I want to be very intentional about this review and make sure it’s coming from a place of peace and love. Super excited to go into Discount Candles & Blessings I entered with an open heart and open mind. The candle store was unlike any space that I have been to in Detroit. There was an array of different candles, incense and intentional tools to help create anything one may want to work with or work on!On the other hand when I first came in I was instantly “greeted” and asked to SANITIZE which threw me off because the women who asked didn’t use a welcoming TONE. Thinking it was a fluke because “hey it’s COVID” I looked passed it and continue looking around.The same lady asked if I was looking for anything in particular and started to tell me about the layout of the store and what was on sale as She showed me around. The interaction was fairly educational for the most part until I started to independently look on my own.I accidentally stood in front of an alter and was instantly asked not to with a very “sharpe tone.”Not knowing the customs of the store since it was my first time there I didn’t know what was deemed appropriate or inappropriate at the time.So I politely moved and inquisitively asked “why ONE shouldn’t stand in front of AN ALTER at any given time?I was instantly told “Because THE OWNER of the shop doesn’t want you to stand in front of the alter.”. I then explained to her that I wasn’t disagreeing with her I was asking for insight on why one shouldn’t in general.Instead of seeing this as an educational moment it was used as another way to showcase the character and energy of the person who initially “greeted” me.Unfortunately, I didn’t have a positive experience and learned one of the most important lessons in life that day. It’s not what your SELLING it’s how you SELL IT that shows your TRUE INTENTIONS and BLESSINGS at hand!!!

My first time in the store. Angela was such a angel...great personality great spirit and very helpful. They were short on help but kept it very positive. Such great vibes from the time I entered to the time I left. I will be a returning customer.

This place has a focus on prayer candles and the like. I came looking for soy/beeswax candles with specific scents so it wasnt really set up that way. I would rename this place blessings and discount candles lol. No one really came over and asked if we needed help either. Nonetheless its a good prayer candles store. Just wasnt what I was looking for.

The granddaughter that took over her grandmother’s shop is super nice. That shop is always booming with business lol. I drive from Flint to go there because they have the best candles and incense to me. When you buy candles there, they ask if you want them blessed for a little extra. And trust me, blessings have flown into my life tremendously since using the candles from their shop for meditation and such; not just monetary. Overall the prices are surprisingly great and low! Check them out on Gratiot Ave near the Eastern Market and Fisher Fwy in Detroit!

Ive been coming here for years before they moved into this new bright space. Get a candle for yourself, and have it blessed for just a little bit extra. The staff is amazing and really helpful if youre looking for something specific. I always feel taken care of and I always leave happy.

They are the absolute worst, rude, and don’t stand by their product! The oil is weak and don’t last two hours. Watered down……AVOID….Employee was pleasant, the “owner” is rude. Definitely have to find a better place to buy oil from.

3 stars is generous. I used to be a regular but they’re just too rude for me so I go somewhere else now. They’ve always been rude, even before the pandemic. They act like they’re doing you a favor when it’s really the other way around lol Kay is nice and the older white lady is too, but not anyone else. I’ve walked the whole store and no one says a word to me. I want to support my people, but I’ve taken my money elsewhere. I’m sure the owner is rolling her eyes at my comment but who cares. I hope someone upbeat and friendly opens an occult store soon. **If you just wanna be in & out, then ignore my comments above, it’s a unique store w/ plenty of stuff. Expect to wait forever in line no matter what the day/time of day is

Stopped by to check out store and sign on the door said closed at 3:30pm due to weather. Its raining. I arrived at 3:30pm. Store hours are 10am to 5pm. Very disappointing.

My family has been going to this store for over 4 decades. I absolutely love this store. I remember going with my mom when I was about 8 years old.

Yep. The manager, owner, or whatever she is; the one with the curly wig on was kinda rude and they didnt have what I needed. When I went several years ago, they were much nicer, more knowledgeable and had what I needed.

The products are wonderful, however I cannot rate this store with 5 stars as they don’t greet you when you walk in or even when you walk up to the counter. I brought my stuff up to the counter and the lady said “Is this everything?” This was my second time and the second time she seemed as though she didn’t want to be bothered. How can we expect blacks to support each other, when some of us (as the lady here) comes off as unwelcoming to customers. This is my hard earned money, and I doubt I’ll spend it with them again.

I like burning candles and incense ..been going to this place for over 30 yrs. They have a large variety of both.

Today I stopped by the candle shop at 421pm and the doors were locked.....The owner and several employees were standing by the window talking .When I knocked on the door the owner ignored me and continued to talk to the other person as if I wasn’t there.....I continued to knock and the owner turned and said to me through the window that the store was closed I asked her what time the store closed and she said to me 5 pm....it was clearly 421pm when I checked my cell phone.the owner of the store proceeded to scold me and ask me why I couldn’t get there sooner because it was the Holiday and she was closed.....as a business owner myself I felt that I drove from 20 miles away to visit this candle store and I inconvenienced her by try to patronize her business......very rude and no customer service etiquette.....sooooo sad

Its always good vibes here, helpful and friendly with everyone. I was only disappointed when I bought an Amethyst ring that broke easily and left a green ring around my finger, but I still love this place. Fair prices, great selections.

Such a cool place, I had always wanted to come in here! Ms. Donna helped me find some crystals, and I was amazed with the number of tapered candles we walked out with! They’ve been doing the household good, Ms. Donna, thank you so much for your wisdom!

I have only heard of this shop in 2013 and I have been buying my candles from them ever since. I love that they have such a large selection (which gets confusing because I may go there intending to buy one thing, and then I leave with 5 things), and the staff is very friendly and helpful.
