Wonderful place for breakfast and lunch. We had the “sausage biscuit” and the “fried egg, bacon, and avocado sandwich”. Both of these were delicious! The place looks very cool inside and has quite a bit of space. A huge plus is that they have a nice outdoor patio which is dog friendly.

Wow! We were blown away and so glad Hudson House had a ridiculous wait so we came here instead! I ordered the lemon lavender Mimosa and my fiance ordered a bloody Mary. The Mimosa was to die for.. He went with his usual breakfast choice of biscuits and gravy and a side of their Cider House Smoked Bacon. I went with a seasonal special, the Bacon Garlic fried rice. All our food was so flavorful and delicious! This will definitely become a favorite food is from now on!

I wanted it to be better, but it’s still pretty good. Avalon has a great reputation. I love their Sea Salt Chocolate Chip Cookies. I had been talking about how good it was to my partner so we picked up takeout today. My sausage biscuit sandwich and his biscuits and gravy were delicious. Everything was packaged up for the optimal takeout experience—and it’s recyclable! The Lemon Ricotta Pancakes were burnt. We thought about making pancakes at home for breakfast, but decided to get breakfast out. They were not great and the burnt flavor took away any hint of lemon. Other than that, I love Avalon. I love that I’m supporting Detroit and people doing good.

Stopped by for coffee and lunch. Great place to grab a bite to eat in the center of downtown. Got the grilled veggie sandwich which was delicious and my child got the turkey and cheese.

Stopped in for coffee and breakfast and was completely blown away by the portions of their toasts. The mushroom toast was incredible and easily makes an entire meal! Thank you Avalon!

While I love their midtown location best, the downtown locale is good too. Nice outdoor seating right along Woodward.

An amazing cafe with food to order with quick turnaround. You order, they give you a number and bring the blood to your table. Its a small menu with everything done very well.

We went there Sunday morning with a group of 5. The service was phenomenal and speedy. The restaurant was busy but turned over quickly. Food was delicious, we had multiple toasts, sandwiches, coffees and cocktails. They were great about accommodating a special request for the party. We happened upon this restaurant when there were long waits elsewhere, but we will definitely be back!

Prices are quite steep, but youre downtown and the food and service is killer. Get the protein bowl and a matcha latte! Super good stuff. Also dont freak out about parking. They validate parking at 1001 Woodward parking garage! Only docking 1 star for closing at 3 PM :( and some prices being a bit lofty, but still fair. Awesome spot that I now frequent often, and feel a hell of a lot healthier for doing so.

Food is good enough but nothing to write home about. I was never asked for dine in or carry out so they assumed I was carry out. They give drinks and food at opposite ends of the restaurant which is confusing. They gave me a gigantic paper bag that was totally unnecessary & wasteful. Then I had to ask for silverware because there is none to be found which you think there would be to eat a salad in their restaurant.Got the Cuban which was fine but not super filling and a honey lavender espresso latte which mostly tasted like black coffee.I guess for $20 I expected a little more. For $12-15 and a less confusing experience it would have been 3-4 stars.

I had lunch here with my daughter and my sandwich was absolutely perfect. Great atmosphere for casual dining and conversation especially when taking a break from spending time downtown. Its actually quite cozy in a way, because it feels like a very nostalgic place to be in the middle of detroit, while also managing to be modern and spacious. Pure delight. Food was delivered quickly, customer service was great.

Overall this place was nice!! Good atmosphere and they have fresh loafs of bread which is one of my favorite things. We were there for breakfast and realistically the breakfast menu to order from was generic and didnt give you a good idea of what you were ordering. The cashier wasnt accurate either with what was being ordered. The cost of the meal versus the quality was poor. Why is everyone trying to fancy up everything? Just give me some good food at a decent price.

Absolutely delicious! Also we got our food very quickly. I ordered huevos rancheros, and they were very yummy! The refried beans had some kind of yummy seasoning, and the eggs and tortillas were delicious. The person I was with ordered the fingerling potatoes with eggs, and I had a potato and it was really good! They have almond milk lattes which is great as I cant drink cow milk. They made a heart on it which was cute. A busboy came quickly to bus our table and the whole place was clean and full of nice people and families and couples.

The food is AMAZING!! Prepared just the way requested! All staff members are friendly and their goal is to make the customer happy.

Brown Sugar Sea Salt Iced LatteThere are some amazing options to indulge in here. For my most recent visit, I kept myself under control and only ordered an iced latte.I asked the cashier what promotional/seasonal flavors they currently offered, and the Brown Sugar Sea Salt Latte was among a few of the flavors she mentioned. It grasped my attention because of the nature of the sweet and salty combination. It was then easy and apparent to me what my selection would be. However, I preferred it to be iced instead of hot although it is the fall season. This latte was definitely worth ordering.The service here is satisfactory. The cashier and the barista were both pleasant and full of positive energy and vibes. That always helps increase the likelihood of me returning to Avalon! But next time, I will have to put my self control on hold and order a dessert or two!

Would definitely recommend their pancakes! Well made. Definitely more substance to these than your typical fast food pancake, cough cough, waffle house, ihop, dennys. The other items in ordered were okay, but pancakes were my favorite. The pancakes alone would fill you up. Good vibes and customer service is superb.

Today I had a very delicious open faced sandwich with avocado and fried egg. There are also a lot of vegetarian and even vegan options here. The breads are the star of the show.

I always love to go to the Avalon Bakery. I always order a large coffee, scrambled eggs and fingerling potatoes. Every time I come in the customer service is exceptional very very clean. Cafe is sanitized to our expectations and social distancing is a plus. The patrons are all so amazing after what weve been through this last year just a blessing.

Beautiful cafe, the espresso bar is great to enjoy their coffee drinks! I had a Mocha with a little spin from the girl working the espresso bar. In the heart of Detroit, it is the perfect location for the nights downtown enjoying the winter festivities. Highly recommended and cant wait to enjoy more that they offer!

I ordered the turkey and Gouda cheese sandwich with chips. As well as, a mocha coffee. My food was great; I give 4 stars because the tables that I seen were dirty. Made me almost not want to eat inside.

Ive worked downtown for some years, and Ive never eaten here but what I will say its that they carter to a good variety of people from vegan to regular. Not allot on the menu but thats a good thing because the detail to the sandwiches and salads are on point... The bread is amazing... Toasted and cut strong and delicious😂😂😂🤭 also they have coffee and something called Matcha... Delicious too.... They have in host dining and take service too. They also bus your table for you🤗🤗🤗. They very polite and fast!!! They make some delicious eggs and they play good lounge music. They offer wifi and refills on basic coffee. Outdoor dining available as well... Under heated tents. Must busy on the weekends the weekdays are slow so stop in. Menu a little expensive but worth it.

If you are in Detroit, make sure to stop at this place for breakfast or lunch. Really cool ambiance, friendly staff and of course, delicious food. The avocado toast was full of flavors, with creamy avocado and fresh cucumber slices. The grilled chicken sandwich surprised you with a little kick of hot pepper, combined with grilled chicken and avocado, made a great sandwich. If you have room, try the vegan chocolate cake. Amazing!!

This place is a fantastic stop for a bite to eat, a nice coffee, and/or pasteries. I ordered a mocha and chocolate croissant (pain au Chocolat). The coffee was fantastic! The pastry well made, but it should have been reheated, as it was served room temperature leaving all the chocolate inside hard.Overall Ill still go again and despite how the pastry was served this place still earns five stars. They have loads of seats, so it seems like the type of place you could set up a laptop and get some work done without being a bother.

The food is awesome and reasonably priced.I also love the artwork of The Spirt of Detroit hung on the wall above the register (pictured). That tied the atmosphere together very well.A place like this is somewhere Id bring a date to whilst on a walk Downtown, or if I were coming from class to get a snack and review notes.Definitely a must visit café if you happen to find yourself in Downtown Detroit sometime!

This place was really solid, seems to be a really nice bet. I had been to the other Avalon in Midtown, which is really just grab and go. This place has seating and what seems like a bit more substantial menu, though of course the seating was closed when I went. However, notable that it is a Bedrock property, so they have the same outdoor pagodas that offered a place to sit and eat nearby after pickup. Staff is friendly, menu is pretty broad, and the food is delicious. I opted for the sausage biscuit sandwich, which unfortunately they ran out of after I had ordered - though they put it on challah bread, which was great. The mochas there are also spot on, and they have extra flavor shots to dress them up a little bit too.I will say that no one seemed to care about the number of people in the restaurant, despite the sign saying 6 customers only inside at a time due to COVID. We had a homeless man come in while we were there and try to solicit from all the customers before they finally came out and told him that he had to leave. So I wasnt super thrilled with how they handled that, but the staff was all masked and they did have marks on the floor for standing distanced, which is a good positive.

Great little spot to grab a bite to eat! Had the avocado toast which was smeared with smashed avocado, tahini, cucumber, olive oil drizzle, chili flakes, sea salt on farm bread. Yum! Also got the monkey bread which was sweet and full of cinnamon. I got the vegan bran muffin to go. Definitely a place to try!

This is a downtown gem. Great for dine in (which I did) or carry out. A little pricey but you get what you pay for here.

The food here was delicious, but service was lacking. I had ordered a small hot chocolate and tripped and spilled it at my seat. I tried to clean things up the best I could and then asked for a mop. They looked at me like I was so rude for asking and didnt bring a mop so I had to ask another person. They never asked if I was ok (it had spilled all over me) didnt offer to bring me a new one or anything. Then my friends order came out wrong and they were rude about that. The food was really good, but I wont go back with service like that. It made me upset that I had even bothered to tip when I ordered.

Walked in and there were one group ahead of me waiting to order. The cashier called them up to order after a few minutes and then the two advisers would just glance at me and make not motion to help. I walked to the counters to be met with wide eyes as I asked if I could order yet. I placed my order and clarified multiple times what I wanted. When I pickup my order my coffees are wrong, there is only one Sandwich and I wasn’t met with even a thank you. Overpriced and not good service I won’t be coming back. Very unhappy I spent my money to only go to work hungry because I ran out of time with getting my food here.

A gorgeous new addition to the downtown scene. Every Detroiter knows that Avalon has incredible bread and baked goods, but now you can enjoy a light meal, delicious coffee, beer, or wine in this European style cafe.

Went in for a coffee and a roll and instead had a true breakfast. The mushroom toast was so, so good. Also had the lox breakfast which was a winner!

Same impeccable quality as their main location in Midtown. Fresh ingredients, and a much larger variety. I love that theyre offering late hours! Just what we needed in this neighborhood.

Great coffee and breakfast!

Avalon feels like it should be in a college town. Very relaxed, healthy choices mixed in with some maybe not so healthy. Fresh bread made with locally sourced ingredients, crazy assortment of sandwiches, pizza, coffee, beer and wine. Not a lot of seating available, but a lot of people seem to do carry out. Super location kitty corner from the Hudson site.

Definitely need some quality control here. My first cup has all blueberries mold, changed for another cup, still with mold berries. $5 for mold fruits? Thanks, no. Dont recommend this place at all.

We had breakfast here and it was great. Nice options for coffee. Good spot to hangout while waiting for our next event. Service was excellent from everyone. Need to go back and sample some of the baked goods.

Great ambiance and good service. But, the worst mocha I have received in my entire life. The only foam on the latte was a thin layer of dry, dune like caverns that bubbled in a barista hell every time I moved the cup. The angry steam coming from my nostrils could have created a better mocha. However, I do really like the atmosphere and the service was great.

Ill start by saying the interior design is nice.Food not so much.With the great reviews I was shocked to be so disappointed in the taste of the grilled chicken sandwich. There is over kill of seasoning and a ton of butter on the bread.

Staff is really friendly... but my order is always wrong. I try to modify the salad so it’s vegan and gluten free and no matter what I say it is always sent out with dairy all over it. I’m a loyal Avalon Midtown customer from the staff to the coffee and food and I’d love it if the downtown location were as reliable. The staff again is absolutely accommodating and kind downtown, but the kitchen needs to up its game.

We got sandwiches for takeout from here and they were delicious! Great food and good service

I went there Saturday morning Oct.26 for a quick bite and had avocado toast and eggs with toast. I ordered them over easy on both. On the avocado toast they came out over hard. And on the eggs and toast they came out raw once I cut in to the egg whites. The only great thing here was the coffee. Service was decent and food wasn’t good especially for the price and having to pay for parking.

Adult grilled cheese hit the spot

Avalon is my go to place in New Center for soup and sandwich. Always organic, fresh and delicious. The staff is excellent and everyone loves coming here for lunch. In good weather, it opens up to the fantastic New Center Park home of summer concerts and theater. This is a real landmark for the rapidly revitalizing neighborhood.

This place is very modern yet high quality. Staff are taking pride in what they do.Its a bakery and because of that any of their food that contains bread is very good. Its one of the few pizza places where you actually WANT to eat the crust.Their coffee, specifically almond milk lattes, are quite tasteful.Last but not least - they are open late!
