Excellent customer service, outstanding product and selection, Competitive pricing. I have been using this mill shop for some years now. Occasionally a lead time on custom orders but that is to be expected.
This is a great place, the staff is knowable helpful and friendly. Outstanding specialty moulding you arent going to find anyplace else.
The folk here were amazing in every aspect. I highly recommend if you do woodwork then stop by this place and pick up what you are looking for.
An overpriced hipster store in the middle of the ghetto. Be sure to wear a mask, or the staff will act little children having a tantrum. There are WAY better lumberyards in a way better neighborhood just a couple miles north of here.
What a resource this place is with a huge selection of species & really good service. Ill be back.
Why go anywhere else. Ive been going to this lumber place for years now and they always take care of me. The people who work here will treat you like family. No matter how small or large my projects have been they have always been there to help and answer all my questions and assist me in any way they can.
Great family owned mill. The staff is knowledgeable and accommodating. Great place for exotic and one off custom fabrication. If your into old houses and fine mill work this place is a must.
Molding experts. Easy to work with. Great recommendations.
Public lumber is such an amazing lumber company. Craig gave incredible service. Highly suggest you talk to him. Bought some the nicest 8/4 Walnut I have ever seen. Will definitely be back.
Always a great resource for custom woodwork and all species of wood
Great products and great service this is a real lumber store puts homedepot and lowes to shame
I dont see how this store got great reviews, because as a first-time customer it seemed to me. they was just trying to give me spear damage wood that didnt match and one that had oil on it. I was just Air and opportunity to dumb damage wood on.I stand by my rating. I believe youll intentionally gave me bad wood. I didnt want to return to a business that treated a new customers that way.
5 stars in every respect. If you need quality lumber at a great price, this is the place to go. Im on the east side and its always worth the trip. I am doing a major boat restoration and their Marine birch is absolutely excellent. 11-ply, perfectly straight with no warping checking. The interior plies are probably a better grade than most face plies. My dad has purchased quality hardwoods from here for years.
Found the wood I could not find elsewhere. . Will be returning when I sm ready for mahogany ply sheets!
I discovered Public Lumber 20 years ago when my contractor sent me there as a source for some exotic paneling for one wall of my great room. After I moved to a Tudor home built in the 1930s, they became my sole source for all of the wood that I needed for several large remodeling projects. They were able to use pieces of my existing baseboard and door trim moldings to make new cutting tools, to mill identical new moldings. They have in-stock a HUGE variety of wood species in a HUGE variety of shapes and sizes. They also offer great services with one caveat: As you might expect, they are always busy and custom orders might take a couple weeks or more for them to source or manufacture -- so plan ahead. They are great.
Im not sure where the positive reviews here are coming from. I tried ordering a small sample of lumber over the phone, and was shipped and charged for nearly $600 of wood. They never sent me an invoice or receipt, and did not communicate about lead times. Only when I called two weeks later was the order suddenly shipped out the next day. Ive tried returning the lumber, but theyre careless and difficult to communicate with. I should not have to exchange half a dozen emails and just as many phone calls with them, the shipping company, AND an additional logistics company just to return their product. The pickup date for the return keeps getting mysteriously rescheduled, and they keep asking me to do more things to coordinate the return. Im not sure whether theyre deliberately misleading or just careless, but this has been an awful experience that has wasted hours of my time. Im really trying to work with them to sort this out, but they do not value my time, and Ive had to dispute the charge with the credit card company to try and get them to work with me. Overcharging someone, not giving them a receipt, and overcomplicating the return process is borderline illegal behavior for a company.
Very knowledgeable staff that really work hard to make your experience top notch. Incredible selection of both imported and domestic hard and soft woods, a rare gem where you can actually see and touch the varieties in the warehouse. Complete processing services available as well.
This place rocks! Huge selection, good prices, neat and clean. I walked into the mill side and the guy who was working stopped what he was doing to help me find (for about 15 minutes) the unusual piece of retro trim I was looking to match. He found the one piece out of 10s of thousands! Amazing!
Everyone who works here is really nice, polite, and accommodating. The lumber selection is outstanding and theyll cut, plane, and light sand. Highly recommended
I have been going to Public Lumber for at least 10 years and it is my favorite store for my custom wood projects. Quality is excellent and the staffs knowledge and expertise is second to none. As a mom and pop business in Detroit, I am always happy to give them my business.
Great supply of hardwood and great service also
Great service - fast, friendly and safe! Unique selection and custom millwork is top notch! The tall guy helps me with a smile every time!
This place is the real deal. They are very friendly, prices are great, and they carry things that fancy places like Bolyard dont. (Although thats a nice lumber yard too.)
Great customer service.
Awesome folks here n one of the few places in the whole Detroit metropolitan area that carries Marine Plywood.. Forgot to ask if they had a Veteran discount..
Awesome place for domestic and exotic hardwoods. Very friendly and helpful staff.
They know their wood. Very good!!! If you there see the Chinaman. He very good. You no wait.
Excellent job making custom crown molding. Very helpful and took the time to help me decide on the right wood.
Love browsing thru their selection of wood. The people working there are always knowledgeable and helpful.
Lots of wood types and molding styles. I needed a casing width none of the big boxes carried. Guy at the counter knew his stuff too. They ripped a board for me which the big boxes wont do. Saved me some time on the table saw.
UNDERSTANDING YO ONES NEEDS. VERY HELPFUL IN DECISION MAKING.
Best quality lumber so close to where you need it! Great Selection and the greatest service, always helpful!
Good selection of wood at reasonable price
Low prices, helpful staff.
Where do I start? Rude, order took 2 weeks longer than expected. I payed order in full up front and a few days after picking my order up they say I still owe $20. Absolutely ridiculous. No clue how they stay in business.
Best lumber shop around, very helpful staff and excellent selection of materials. These guys go the extra mile!
If you are Hispanic do not buy in this place, they wont give you any service, and they will tell you wait till someone wants to help you and even I ask what was the problem they told me thats the way it is. Even the manager is a racist. Again if you are other than white or black they wont give you service.*Reply to Public LumberFunny how you mentioned all your video footage but not the audio.I enter your store an African-American customer was in front of me, yes in the time I was waiting I was looking at my phone LIKE EVERYONE IN THIS WORLD DOES, once your employee finish with the customer in front of me I was waiting which Im OK with that (Im not looking for a special treatment) in the mid time another customer walk in (African-American) when I was ready to approach the counter to get service your employee point at the customer behind me and say that he was next, I reply to your employee few times Im next on line and he just reply no your not without any explanation, them I ask whos going to help me and he say I dont know.I ask to talk to the manager which Im guessing that this you (the one whos replying I can see you inside your office) and the answer from your employee was I dont know whos the manager even you hear all this and also the lady on the other office hear too nobody approach to me to find out what was the problem or issue all you 3 employees (including a manager) decided to ignored me.How funny is to get a way of something you did by saying we employed and give service to many many Hispanics
High prices, bad selection, and even worse costumer service. I avoid them at all cost.
Customer service was friendly and responsive. However, a misunderstanding happened with the length of lumber. Not a really big deal but not what Im looking for in a lumber service. Also, what I was told would be 2 weeks has turned into more than a month to get my entire order. I also waited a significant amount of time when I went to go pick bits of my order up, as nothing got there at the same time. Fortunately what I needed from them did not significantly hold up my project, but I will not recommend public lumber and will look elsewhere in the future.
Good selection, terrible service. I waited six weeks for my order. They didnt even make an effort to inform me, that its not gonna happen. Also, make sure you are not offered second hand boards...
Called to ask a question and the receptionist that answered the phone said they are extremely busy and dont have time if we are soliciting bla bla bla so I just hung up on her. Truly rude for no apparent reason and theyre supposed to be a huge Company and this is the person you have in charged answering your phone?
Good selection, decent prices
This is not a good place to go customer service is very bad I went in for wood and went to the office and the guy that looks like he has a glass eye seen me standing there but kept talking to another person that worked there about something that was not work related and when I asked for help they looked and me and laughed and said what do you want and kept talking this place use to be OK when I first came but now every time I come it gets worse and worse wood over priced service sucks go to Armstrong there every nice family owned and wood cheaper
Hit and miss .There were times they had what I needed but other times they were picked clean .Alwayscall to see whats in stock .I am a wood Chris Craft .I have delt with Public for over 30 years .If its in stock its good quality.
Best selection of mouldings in Detroit!
Not the best customer service. They seem too busy to help.
Seemed cool.
