I recently purchased my La Madama from Motown Witch and I am extremely satisfied! Motown Witch has contributed significantly to my work as a life long learner and practicioner of Hoodoo, by ALWAYS having in surplus the books, herbs, oils, candles and other supplies needed for my spells and rituals. Motown Witch is an excellent spiritual and metaphysical resource for Healers, Sages, Teachers, Diviners, Rootworkers, etc.

Was one of my favorite black owned business until the “no children allowed” policy. I was very hurt over the fact I drove all the way there just to be turned around because I have my toddler with me. A great store to goto if you don’t have kids with you, I guess.

First time in the shop, I was overwhelmed in a GREAT way. Didn’t realize the shop was even so close to my home, and they stock SOOOOO much stuff that I’ve been overpaying for elsewhere. Felt like a kid in a toy store. The energy of the establishment, the vibes I experienced were good vibes, positive. Will be returning again & again.

My daughter and I popped in yesterday and were greeted and directed to where we could find what we were looking for. I am glad to know they carry different varieties of sage, so I no longer need to buy online.Thank you for your kindness.

I would like to follow up on a recent review in regards to the services offered by Yvette. There are many factors that are not being addressed in regards to the ordaining of the wedding of Alexandria Purgatori. To start one year ago the party entered the store and met Yvette which they were addressed like anyone with concern. Now, within 1 year of communication you still chose to pay for services without giving full information on the RACIAL yes RACIAL red flags within Fowlerville, MI. I am Yvettes husband and the driver for the trip upon exiting the freeway we are met with nothing but examples, of the type of mindset this place represents.Which includes the following:1) Uncle Sam displays2) A noose hanging from a house on the highway3) Constant stares and following our car for no reason.If you call this safe you are obviously wrong or crazy. Who in their right mind being BLACK yes BLACK would want to go forward with something that shows its not right at all. However, it is somewhat miraculous that someone is still there to marry the couple? With this Yvette still refunded the couple their money. Let alone anyone else probably would have kept your money on pure disrespect.If you can listen to one persons review and take this as the end all for what Yvette THE MOTOWN WITCH has to offer then keep your money and go where someone will tolerate ignorance.

They could have more inventory, not really a big selection of the items they DO have, but youll probably find SOMETHING you like 🤷🏾‍♀️

Went to this place yesterday and honestly I was a little swayed by the reviews but I went on my own to see and I was met with a warm smile from one of the women that does readings. The woman who eventually helped me at the counter laughed and joked with me about spices and even gave me advice on some spell work and how to connect with my ancestors. Before interacting with the woman at the counter, I got the vibe that she is cautious about who comes into her business therefore she is (understandably) cautious on how she interacts.. Something everyone should do before indulging in conversations with folks. So to say she was rude, maybe do an energy check on yourself before you interact with people! Will be returning soon!

I drove all the way to your store to support and buy some supplies and I wasn’t allowed in because I had an arm baby! No, where on your Instagram page or on Yelp does it say no children are allowed. That is very unprofessional and discriminatory towards single parents. I will never come to your establishment again. This establishment doesn’t even deserve a star at all bad customer service and a waste of my time and gas.

I really dont know if any of you have been to any other metaphysical shops ever, but I have, Ive been to a lot. This was one of the poorest experiences Ive ever had at a shop. First off, the shop looks thrown together, and there were barely any crystals, the crystals that they did have were overpriced compared to other shops. Secondly the service was so lackluster, no one said anything to us when we walked in and I understand if they were busy but there were two other people in the store, and the first time anyone chose to acknowledge us was when it was to tell us to stop playing the singing bowl because the noise annoys them, mind you this was the owner who said this. So apparently were not allowed to sample a product which looked cheap and was overpriced anyways, I was happy to put it back. Unfortunately, I did end up purchasing from them but thatll be the last time.Also, none of them were wearing masks, and as dirty as the establishment was Id hate to see how they live, not worth it.

I was very excited to support this business, as I am a beginner and have been looking for a place to get supplies, as well as ask questions and get information that I can’t find in books. This store seemed well stocked and had a nice energy. I was able to find high John root, which I have been searching for for quite a while now, so that was great. I had a nice conversation with the owner, who had a slightly cold energy at first, but I understood as energetic boundaries & cautiousness are important in this work. I went in with positive intention and purchased some candles, a root, and a crystal. I called back today, as I had forgotten the name of the crystal I purchased, and I wanted to research the properties a bit more before placing my intention on it. When I called, the response I got was dismissive and quite rude, and the energy was surprisingly negative. The lady I spoke with informed me that the store was packed and is moving locations, so she wouldn’t be able to tell me what I bought. Which is fine and understandable. But the way she cut me off mid-question and the nasty tone she addressed me with really threw me for a loop, which is disappointing because I was really looking forward to returning to the shop, spending money and expanding my knowledge. It’s been quite hard for me to find black practitioners, and as a rookie I’m not even sure where to begin. I’m not sure if maybe she got some sort of negative energy from me, or I caught her at a bad time, but I was polite and felt I had the best of intentions. I just can’t justify someone speaking to a customer like that, who asked a simple question. I really just want to learn and as a beginner, this was a very disappointing experience. I don’t know if maybe my inexperience or something in my energy turned her off, but I really went into it with the utmost respect and optimism, and came out feeling quite unwelcome. Maybe this particular route isn’t for me, and I’m supposed to go about learning another way. I was hoping to join the Facebook group the store owner told me about when I spoke with her in person, but it seems I was rejected from that as well.Overall I take it as divine redirection, maybe I’m just not at that level yet. But it is a real bummer that I won’t be able to move forward with this particular shop as a resource. The owner of the shop does seem extremely knowledgeable, and my first conversation with her was very pleasant and left me feeling hopeful for my future with black spirituality. It seems like other people have had great experiences, maybe once I learn more I can return and have a better experience.

Stood at the door trying to get in, it was locked, during regular open hours. Staffed stared straight in my face and didnt let me in. No one attempted to explain why the door was locked, as I was clearly there during business hours. They also dont allow children in their store. The staff was rude and dismissive. Dont shop here.

Osaranga And Ms Evette.. I found them to be very lovely influences whenever their own emotions are in check with themselves.. Sadly i had to part ways after noticing true behaviors when certain customers walk in and out but other then that, my experience here was cool. Love my tarot decks.

This place has a really good energy. The lady who runs it is very kind and fun to talk to. We had a great exchange about the history of rock legends in Detroit and our families. I also like that they weigh out herbs by the ounce unlike other places that go according to the volume of very small baggies. The prices are fair and its a good opportunity to support a great Detroit independent business!

After reading the reviews I was reluctant to go here. Took my chances and stopped in for some emergency supplies. I was greeted into a warm welcoming environment and they had everything I needed. I also found hard to get items that are not available in my hometown. Ms. Yvette is the truth she read my energy as soon as my feet hit her shop although I was on the verge of a panic attack her and the cashier were very helpful and inviting. I got some great advice along with great hard to find items and beautiful pyrite. I cant wait to return

Not really my vibe, but really cool place if youre looking for black/african magic stuff. I found some useful things, but you wont find a statue of Wotan if you catch my drift.

She mentioned she was going to establish a brick-and-mortar soon, and I gave her my word I would stop by to patronize it. Ever since the first day of visiting the store, I have had the pleasure of not only being a customer of a wonderful human being, but have bared witness to the evolution of the store as a whole. The work she does there is bona fide, the items are authentic, and shes more then willing to assist you with your. La Santeria, Hoodoo, Vodun needs. Keep up the amazing work!!!

If I could give this place a negative 1 I would..... the customer service was really horrible.... the disrespectful way she talks to customers when they ask questions because theyre not familiar with the crystal is very unprofessional she needs to be put out of business... I went here to support a black own business but she was very negative and low vibrational she cursed me out for asking for a extra bag for my 14 crystals I brought, and her breath was extremely smelly!!! ... and her security which was her son made a guy slur toward me ... I will never be back to this low class business... and I am boiling my crystals that she touched because her energy was so toxic!!!

The first thing youll notice when you enter is the smell, its devine. The stock is a little bare, but its a small independent business in the process of growing, so thats understandable. The owner does carry some very unique and hard to find items though, and thats important for the craft. It looks like there is more going on than just retail and readings, Im interested in seeing what else is offered. And its nice that its a craft store in Detroit, not an outside suburb.

I had a great experience on my first trip to Motown Witch. Even got an impromptu reading before I left. What I enjoyed most, in addition to how cordial and helpful the ladies who worked there were, was that it is a black owned shop and its nice to FINALLY be able to purchase ancestral products from our own people instead of those who exploit, steal, and market our talents as their own. I will shop there again.

I came to this store to buy some smudge sticks and other holistic items that interested me. The overall layout had a variety of selection that pulled my interest. So I looked around for a moment before I was greeted by the woman who I assume was the owner.While she did ask me what I was looking for I will admit she was a little cold. Not too welcoming, kind of the vibe you feel when someone is only helping you with the minimum help because they must.I dismissed it because they had a decent selection of goods and it simply was trivial. However the entire time she continued a whole conversation with another reader/worker in the back and it just felt like I was intruding. It was a whole uncomfortable vibe directed the entire time. Mind you I’m the only person in the store so I really don’t understand what the issue was.I was going to spend about $60 getting some cool books and tarot decks I had seen but when she keep this defensive unwelcoming energy directed at me the whole time I didn’t feel my money and business was welcome. I only end up getting the sage stick because I needed it.This is disappointing too because I came in with a good energy and ready to support a black business. But you have to do better. These spiritual shops be having a defensive energy/stigma against others and prejudging. You need to do better if you want more business. Smile, be more welcoming and supportive in your energy. It doesn’t lie and it can’t hid behind that “customer service” demeanor. I didn’t deserve that as a black customer who came to support you with business.

Great store! I’m happy she’s within and actually neighborhood that allows for the “nontraditional witch” community by American standards. Historically black witches have been demonized when all of us who understand the metaphysical know there two sides to each. She’s a beautiful person and they also host Brazilian movement there. I will be back and hope she stays in business do years and years to come!

I dont want to bash the entire store it may have just been the person answering the phone. I asked if they had a dressing oil thats been around since magic has been practiced and because I have a natural gift. I realized she knew what she wasnt talking about. Her attitude was horrible and unprofessional and all she could tell me was the oils that sell the most amount women. Im a real practitioner and I would advise the store downtown. They use real herbs and they are always polite.
