My car didnt come with an owners manual so I ordered one and CarMax reimbursed me for the cost.....in CASH! This is how car buying should be. Keep up the great work CarMax!
The team needs alot of training, even the manager cant get it right. She told me all those credit inquiries would be 1 hard hit, they hit me with 4! Im suppose to be trying to buy a house and this really upset me...The guy doing the actual finance portion had to be coached over and over by one of the girls behind the desk and left us sitting waiting for hours....took entirely too long.

This is the second Truck I have purchased from Carmax. I enjoy the non pressured buying process. I also enjoy the ability to basically spec out a used vehicle to my options, Milage and price range and find one in the Carmax inventory. The fact that the sales reps are non commission employees makes the process easier. I detest traditional car salesman, so I use to always avoid buying a vehicle.I will say that the vehicle that I bought the first time, was immaculately clean. The vehicle I purchased this time was disappointingly dirty for a vehicle on the sale line. Even after I closed the deal and they were supposed to clean it up, they did a poor job. But it doesnt hinder my positive opinion of the Carmax buying experience! I just think management needs to tighten up their detail man. Thanks 😊
My experience with CARMAX was better than I expected. The person who helped us was Antonio. He was very polite and business oriented. He took our information and then told us what he was doing next. He went through everything telling us what he was doing until he gave us the final check, which was more than I expected. He had an air of professionalism that made me respect CARMAX

Online appraisal was fair, and in-store appraisal came in at the same dollar amount. Beware of other competitors as they do not have as many locations to do business at. Never use a company that requests you to sign your title and send off to them. Very risky as they will not make arrangements to pick up your vehicle until they receive the title. No liability coverage to your vehicle in transport. Once your vehicle arrives at their location, it will be appraised and probably for less than the online quote. You are responsible for costs to return it, and now your title is signed off!
Sales team was good and courteous but the process took over 4 hours due to computer complications. The vehicle parking lights and daytime running lights are out and the fluids were low, no windshield fluid at all. I called the service department and the earliest they could get me in was two weeks away. These are simple things that should have been done before the vehicle left the lot. I am happy with the salesperson and vehicle and would have given a higher rating if not for the other issues.

Haggle free price=care less about customer service. Already purchased one vehicle from Carmax went to get another one and had it picked out reserved. I asked the guy that called me about it if I could go ahead and pay to have it shipped. He responded not yet have to check but don’t worry I’ll call you back you don’t have to worry it is yours. I waited all day called that afternoon held for over an hour so called next morning and it’s sold to someone else because that employee did not call me back. What was car max response we messed up it’s our fault I’m sorry but there is nothing we can do. I talked to manager at local branch and call center both said we can try and find another one other than that can’t do anything. Oh y’all mess up and oh well is the response. I thought my request was reasonable let’s look find year mileage package that is comparable but if it’s higher can it be lowered for my inconvenience? They said no nothing can be done on our “haggle-free” price. Why even have managers not just kiosks where you tap say I want this one it ships you get financed. Because if you’re there for customer experience you are failing miserably at your job.

From start to finish this was the easiest way Ive ever sold a car. When I arrived at Carmax the staff was great and answered all my questions. I left with a check in hand in under an hour. I dont know of a better way to sell a car.
It was a horrible. It seems that they tell you what ever they have to to get you to come up there.I drove all the way to Tampa from Alabama and got nothing.Then they wanted us to trade in the new vehicle we got from another dealership and took 10,000 off the value of the vehicle and we didnt even have it for 2 weeks. I would definitely not recommend this company to anybody. They last straw was what I had just told you about. Then in pretty sure they would have taken the vehicle and turned around and tried to resell it for 30,000 even though they only wanted to give 20,000 for a trade in. Scammers for Sure!!
My car is great! The process of finding it, getting it delivered to the closest Car Max was good. The car is exactly as pictured and worked out great. The sales process was a little bumpy due to some IT technical issues but it was resolved. Overall, my experience was good and I would recommend CarMax for your next vehicle.
Firstly, the people here are nice they are kind. But being nice and kind doesnt make up for being a sleezy company. And in my opinion CarMax proves to be just that.I downloaded the CarMax app and start shopping. My parents have bought numerous cars from them and have had a great experience with it. So I was going to give them a try. So after searching and searching I finally find a car in my budget and that works for me. However, its in Baton Rogue so I have to transfer it no big deal so I go through the app and start the transfer but then after I submit the request the price jumps $1000 and Im like what the heck. So I start working with a employee at the call center and he states that oh if I have a screenshot of the price I saw they will match it. And say okay then and I had a screenshot of it. I send it and he proceeds to help to move forward with transferring it. So I get a link asking me to pay 199$ to transfer it which is fine but I need to make sure the car is still at the price I saw it for. I ask the guy if that is the case and get no answer. So obviously Im not paying for a car outside my price range so I wait figuring that he must be busy. So the next day I call the car max here...and Im informed that they SOLD THE CAR I HAD ON HOLD. Apparently if you dont immediately pay the transfer instead of calling you and making sure it wasnt just a mistake. They just cancel the hold and sell your car.So any normal business who wants to keep your business would make an offer to try to keep you as a customer. And Im not unreasonable even if the offer was free transfer on a different vehicle I would at least consider continuing to work with them. But no just whoops sorry. Like we arent talking about you messed up my McDonalds order you lost me a freaking car! I swear this review may never get seen by anyone and Im not saying you shouldnt shop here. But this truly feels like a money hungry business that doesnt care. Guess Ill try carvana...or maybe the other 10,000 dealerships in Dothan.Ps. I might get haggled to death at a dealership but at least I get the car at the end.
Weve bought several cars from the Birmingham store and were expecting the same level of selection and service but we were extremely disappointed. They didnt have a salesperson to help us out and just told us to go look at the cars ourselves. Even the vending machine didnt work. Save your time and look elsewhere.

Finding a car was great, such a large selection to choose from. Pre-approval was very quick, like minutes. The salesperson (Demetrius) was very friendly and helpful. Also very knowledgeable. Car came locally (Dothan, Al) in about a week. In store salesman (Matt) very efficient. Got the car and 5 miles down the road it had an engine light come on. They had to replace an oil pump and gasket. (Car had 11,000 miles on it). It took 13 days for me to finally pick up my car after I had paid for it. That being said. The service manager(Chris) was very helpful and apologetic. Even the district manager (Rick) was helpful in giving me a loaner car til mine could be repaired and was very apologetic. Even with the problems, I still would buy from CarMax again. Their costumer service is excellent.

Vehicle transfer was timely. Staff were friendly. Description of vehicle failed to mention minor dent on passenger side/backside panel. Office did not have any TEMP tags and were to overnight one to us. One week later and we still did not get a temp tag. When we registered vehicle at county office and brought in tag from vehicle we sold, we found out we were charged for a new tag we didn’t need.

After paying for my 2020 Grand Jeep Cherokee I got around for over two weeks before I was able to pick up my car. The attitude of the dealership members left much to be desired, This was actually the third car that I had purchased from the same dealership over the last four years the first two I bought went smoothly with excellent service but since the change in personnel, it was an extremely unpleasant experience.
The car is in great shape and just what I wanted. The dealings with the staff at Carmax was weird and frustrating. I spoke to a different person every time I was there. Some of the staff were nice and some were not. The amount of paperwork was too much. Who needs a reference to buy a car. Thanks.
Here it is.......,I was approved online.I was called and had to be approved again.I changed cars. I had to be approved again.I get to the dealership. I had to be approved again.My part time job didn’t qualify. I had to be approved again.Now my credit score has dropped 11 points. It’ll rise higher next month.Bottom line, I was approved!!! No co-signer needed. No HIGH down payment. The interest rate isn’t too bad. I messed up in the past. It takes time to fix it. I got an amazing car. Everything but navigation. It’s mine!!! My salesperson was probably tired of my endless questions and frustrations. She never showed it. The only reason they didn’t get 5 ⭐️ because of the number of come backs and credit hits. My sales lady was patient and kind. If you need help contact the Dothan store!!!!

It was an enjoyable experience as far as car buying goes. Had to have car shipped to my local dealer at a very reasonable price. Good contact and fast shipping as car was being shipped. The few things I found wrong or missing on car were fixed right away. It did not have an owners manual and they even reimbursed what I spent to get one. Dealership was bright and clean plenty of hand sanitizer. Everyone had on masks due to covid and no hand shakes are you needed apt. Guess thats to make sure social distancing was easy.
So nice going to sell and/or buy a car and not having to play games with the dealer on prices!

Very disappointed in personnel service. First lied to about condition of the first vehicle, “it is fine nothing major” Found out by using CarFax the car was in a major accident with front and right side and under carriage damage.. My insurance company confirmed the same.I returned this vehicle and had to get the assistant of main office in Virginia to get Carmax in Dothan to pay off the loan on the original vehicle. This took over a month and checking today it was paid off yesterday. Finally!

Went here to look at some cars, then went to a dealer. Difference was night and day. Dealer wasted my time and constantly pitched BS that obfuscated the actual price and hassled me for a week afterward with phone calls and texts. Carmax didnt do any of that, and instead let me take my time and didnt pressure or hassle me at all. Im never buying a car from anywhere else ever again. Dealers can go to hell.

I was pre approved on line explained my financial situation got an agreed upon down payment. Sold my truck to get the down payment had a truck shipped to Dothan. Went to pick it up spent an hour supplying paper work prepaid my auto insurance at the last minute was told I needed an additional$900 down payment. I walked away without my truck. Not happy with them at all.

The people at the Dothan store were very courteous although it was obvious the store was nearly brand new. I was a little frustrated with the lack of awareness where the car was during the two week transfer process, but eventually it arrived by their due date. The car was as expected when it arrived and Im happy with the deal.
Very clean and safe for viewing cars and staying safe distancing. Not to good at appraising vehicles and having to pay a processing fee that lowers your trade in another $300 if you buy theirs.

Returning CustomerI went to Car Max at 4pm (my scheduled Appt) and it was completely chaotic. There were several customers sitting & waiting while about 8 employees stood in the middle of the room looking genuinely lost and confused. I was told there was no one available for me to and I could have a seat and wait.I’m not sure if all of the employees were new, but to me, it looked like a bunch of unprofessional adolescents who seem to have no clue what was going on.I left and was very disappointed. I contacted the person I had speaking with over the phone and told him about MY experience. The next day I was contacted by Rick Long, general manager of the Dothan location. He basically told me I was a liar and out of line. Those were not the words he used, but the basic text. The car I currently have was purchased from Car Max about 4 yrs ago and I had a great experience. This time around has been completely different. I will not be going back to the Dothan store.
Everyone at CarMax was very professional and treated me and the other customers with respect. Not a lot of the BS that you might expect in a used car dealership. I think I got a pretty good deal and am happy two weeks later.

I purchased a vehicle from CarMax Dothan on November 9, 2020! I was approved online but when I went in I had to be approved again! Ok cool, within an hour I returned the vehicle due to the vehicle skipping badly! I wanted to return the vehicle right then but it was a Christmas gift for my husband and he loved it! So I put my feelings to the side and let them fix the vehicle FOR HIM! A few days later I was contacted by CarMax to come in because the company that originally financed the vehicle said the Max Care was more than they would finance so I either had to pay for the Max Care out of pocket or take it off to be approved! I AGAIN wanted to return the vehicle but didn’t because it was a gift for my husband! So, I went in AGAIN and revised the contract! Since about a week ago I have been trying to make my 1st payment and the company was saying I didn’t have an account with them even though the company’s name is on my paperwork! So today 12-19-2020 I called CarMax Dothan to see if they could assist me with making a payment! The manager then gets on the phone and tell me that my car is NOT financed and I had to come back in and return the car or apply to get it financed AGAIN! He claim that they were just told yesterday and have been trying to contact me, which is a lie!! I am beyond furious! This is not how business should ever be conducted and their customer service is awful! This was supposed to be a Christmas gift for my husband!!! So, I have paid for a tag and insurance on a vehicle that was never financed!!! Unbelievable!
Best truck shopping experience ever. I transferred an F-150 from Orlando. It arrived in just a few days and exceeded expectations. It was an incredibly low pressure, stress free experience. Jacob did a great job answering questions but it never felt like your typical car sales pitch. Carmax will be our go to car dealer from now on!

It was a pleasurable experience to sell a car I no longer needed in just under an hour and get a check that I knew would be good. Common sense says you will get a little less money than retailing it to a private buyer, but there is guaranteed to be numerous calls that are scammers, or just folks who dont have a penny but love to talk, etc, and will happily give you a check that ma or may not be any good. This is the third time i have sold there, and have bought from them twice. All the transactions has been hassle free, fast and professional. Good people!

I dont recommend this place unless you have a near immaculate credit score. Pretty high interest for poor and fair credit. Not to mention literally everything on the lot is almost brand new and higher priced. Not the place youd want to go for your first car unless youve got the credit or the green backs. Very nice cars and trucks though. Not the best options or economical choice for most individuals though.

Horrible customer service! They website clearly says “appointments and walk ins welcome”, but we were shown the door for daring to come without an appointment. Customers and employees were wearing masks (as appropriate) but employees were behind plexiglass as well and cannot understand what customers say with their co-workers enjoying themselves loudly behind them. If you step forward to make yourself heard you are screamed at by other employees. We left and bought a car from a dealership that also followed COVID-19 protocols, but were customer focused. Horrible experience.
The staff at CarMax are very friendly and helped in any way possible to accommodate me and the exact vehicle I was looking for. From the very first visit until signing my final paperwork, I felt comfortable with everything that was said and done. I was never pushed nor pressured into buying something I was not 100% satisfying with. I know without a doubt in the future when purchasing a vehicle I will make CarMax my first place to shop. I took my 2012 Dodge Avenger SE in for an appraisal and was given a good review on everything. I understand the check engine light was on and the car has 130,000 miles. But to low ball me an offer of $1,500? I’m sorry but your website has the exact car year, model, and the mileage is 120,000 listed for $8995? So to my understanding a check engine light and 10,000 miles is the difference of $7,495. I have fixed my car but I will not be back to do business.

I was very pleasantly surprised at how easy it was for me to purchase a car there. There was no sales pressure at all, unlike what I experienced at the local dealerships, and Matt my sales person was great at explaining everything. I put in to have a car transferred to the local store and they told me it would take seven days to get there but it only took three. I was able to look over the car, with no pressure to buy it even though I had requested that it be transferred for me, and given a few extra days to line up payment. Matt is a wonderful salesperson and took the time to explain financing to me and all the options available to me. I would highly recommend CarMax to anyone in the market for a vehicle.

Prompt, courteous service for buying a car. However, management has not been very prompt on getting key pod for the car that was not provided on purchase. We still do not have one after all this time.
I’m a repeat customer and I’ve had mixed results. Obviously, the first time went well but this most recent purchase has been frustrating at best. The sales person was great but that’s where it stopped. They didn’t give us the key fob when we purchased it but that should have been an easy fix. I called the next day and I was told they didn’t have it but they would order them and they would call me back later that day to schedule it. I didn’t receive a call for several days. I started calling and emailing but wasn’t receiving a response. I left a message with the store instead of the service dept and finally got a call. We scheduled it and when my husband arrived they told him the appointment was for the next week. That’s not what I was told. We rearranged our entire schedule to do it that day. This car is a gift for my daughter’s 16th birthday and all I want are key pobs!!! I’ve tried to email corporate but each time I get a response that there was an error and I need to call the local store. I had plans to purchase another car through them but this is making me question that.
The most painless car buying experience I have ever had. I ordered the car from another lot. It came quickly. The salesman flew through our paperwork so fast. It was clear he knew what he was doing. After they cleaned the car they put a big yellow bow on the hood. It made the day feel special. I would buy from CarMax again.
I would have thought the salesman would have called a week later to see if we were enjoying the car. Initially took out loan. Paid car off 1 week later and was offered no paperwork saying it was paid.
The folks here are very helpful and it was an easy buying experience. My only small issue was with the carmax web site concerning vehicle shipping tracking, and the listed options for the vehicle that was shipped wasn’t clear. I could have looked harder at the site, but the car that arrived did not have the options i thought it had. I got another vehicle that we are extremely happy with, i was just out the shipping fee for the car I ordered.
Out of all the car lots I have been to in the past year, I would have to say Car Max was the best experience I have had. I told them what I was looking for and my budget, they made it happen. They made me a happy car owner. I am recommending my family, friends, and even strangers. If I ever need another car, I will be returning.
