This is one of the best guitar shops in the city. Everything about it is just miles ahead of any corporate chain. When you step in youre just engulfed in this amazing experience, from the wood floors to the walls that are filled with hanging guitars.The staff is so knowledgeable and helpful. Never condescending. Theres not even a hint that they work on commission; everyone is so patient and non-pushy. They know a lot about different guitars, woods, pickups, etc. So theyll help you find a great guitar.Ive bought/sold a few guitars here and I have no complaints. Their repair techs downstairs are good as well.Dont come in on a payday because youll just end up splashing it all on a guitar and some pedals :)

I have lived in the Chicagoland area all my life and have played guitar for the last 31 years - and was not aware of this place - never set foot in there before. Really kicking myself for not finding these guys sooner. Small shop with an incredible selection, great prices, super people that know their stuff inside and out. I went in with a simple problem to solve, and Paul got me hooked up with a great solution.THIS is the prime reason we need to support mom and pop/family owned brick-and-mortar stores. The big box stores just cant provide the level of service, the quality of instruments, and the knowledge that a family-run store of over 40 years can. Would give 6 or 7 stars if I could!

This is the go-to place for guitar set-ups, and I recently had a nut replaced. They dug through their stash of nuts multiple times to find one that fit my guitar so I wouldnt have to have one custom-made. Their perseverance saved me time and money. Love this place!

Great guys, beautiful guitars and a warm store with a cool vibe!I went in to check out a Fender used acoustic and walked out with a Taylor! I played the Taylor GS Mini and Ive always wanted a smaller guitar to transport easily....I was hooked when I played her. Paul showed me another finish that was available and the case that came with it. The case was really nice considering the Taylor I was getting was on the lower price tier. It was easy to pull the trigger. Ken and Paul (son & father) couldnt be nicer & more helpful. They are guitar guys and know their guitars.The selection of Martin guitars is very nice and the Taylor room is...WOW! They have some gorgeous guitars. Also, check out their Eastman guitars. I have an Eastman and you get a great value for the $! They also carry Michael Kelly, Washburn along with a couple others as well as some used guitars.My experience there is ALWAYS great.

This spot has been my go-to for 10 years, and I am always pleased with the quality of professional service and extensive knowledge of the guitar industry--particularly Taylors and Martins. I appreciate that Paul and Ken relentlessly do their best to ensure customer satisfaction, upkeep the place, and have a well-stocked inventory. (They sell used gear, too!) I had a chance to visit Tobias a couple weeks ago for the first time. Such a wonderful place, and I really enjoyed my visit. I showed up earlier in the day and actually talked with one of the store owners for almost 45 minutes before even looking at the guitars. The staff and owners are very friendly and knowledgeable. As for the guitars, they had a little bit of everything, especially Taylors and Martins; however, they also had some more affordable models as well. The guitars are in excellent condition, and the store is well kept. Overall, very pleasant experience, and I will buy my next guitar from Tobias. Highly recommend a visit.

Im always amazed when I go to this place.They are 100% honest and are the most knowledgeable guitar techs Ive ever met.I think theres been 3 or more times where Guitar Center, or my guitar expert friends, or my local shop in my town has quoted me hundreds on a repair job, sometimes quoting the repair to take 2+ weeks! Then I bring it to Tobias Music and they sometimes can fix the problem right then and there!And their prices are so insanely reasonable that I almost feel guilty.Not only are they happy for your business, but they will tell you all you need to know about your guitar, your repair, or any accessories you might want/need.I wish I lived closer, but I go 40 minutes out of my way to go to this shop. I cant say enough kind words about how well theyve treated me for years, and how theyve kept my Martin guitar going strong too.They never pressure you into sales! No other music stores I know of come close to this place, and Ive been to dozens in the Chicagoland area.

I went in because of their ads and I like small family shops. Just walking in you feel welcome. I am an old beginner. They treated me as well as some of their regular pros that were hanging around the shop. They represent many brands, but their collection of Taylors and Martins is outstanding. They took a lot of time with me and helped me find what I really wanted without pressure. Whenever Im in the neighborhood, I stop in. They have a beautiful comfortable lounge showroom. Great atmosphere.

Back when I lived in LaGrange this was my favorite music store. The service was always outstanding, the people friendly and patient. I’m planning on visiting the area this summer. Maybe I’ll buy another guitar this visit!

One of the best guitar shops in the Chicagoland area, and definitely my favorite! I started taking lessons from Tobias Music for the first time back when I was 13 yrs old and am still going to them now, 28 yrs later! You will not find a better selection of acoustic guitars accompanied with a staff that really knows their stuff. There is no need to worry about the hard sell with these guys. They truly want you to walk out with the guitar that suits you best, not that puts the most money in their pockets. Local and family owned! Cant beat that!

I live in Indianapolis and was visiting Chicago when I needed a guitar string for my brothers guitar. I stopped in Tobias and told them what my problem was and they had his guitar repaired and ready to play for us in a matter of minutes. While waiting, the staff was great and showed us around the store and patiently answered any question I asked. I would die to have this shop in my neighborhood.

This is one of the only Taylor dealers around the whole south Chicago Land. They have an awesome selection but I HATE going in there. Paul always makes me feel very uncomfortable. I was in the market for a new Taylor, and Ive been playing nothing but Taylor guitars for YEARS, and for starters, they bugged me with the history of Taylor the whole time... I just wanted to try the guitars out.. Also, its important for a guitar dealer to make sure their equipment is up to par, I get that.. but OH MY GOD!! They make you feel like you cant even touch a string without freaking out that something is going to break. they made me take my jacket off, said i couldnt use a pick.. says in the past theyve had to send guitars back to Taylor come on.. really?... I mean come on.. I play with alternate tunings, but when im there, i wont even bother playing in my style, because theyll probly chew me out, and GOD FORBID a string snapped... When in the market for a guitar, you should always feel comfortable and at home... You should play the way that YOU play..otherwise how will you know if you like the guitar, or which one to buy?? Guitar Center is excellent for letting their customers try things as they wish and make them feel welcomed and not pressured.. The staff here needs to lighten up, and relax, and come in terms with reality that musicians PLAY guitars.. they dont pluck a string ever so gently and wear disinfecting gloves while they do it..
