Chocolate and coffee! Can’t get better than this! The tour was for an hour and it was absolutely amazing! Highly recommend the tour if you are in Durango! The truffles and hot chocolate were the best!

The staff at Animas were very friendly and helpful when it came to making choices on what to get. The hot chocolate is the very best. We extended our trip a day just to be able to visit one more time. I also highly recommend the whiskey lemonade!

I love this place. I would give it 10 stars if I can. Every employee is amazing. This is what I call customer service!My husband got a cold brew coffee and it was delicious. I was so sad to see that they were closed this morning when I got to the front door. I had my heart set on breakfast as I have been told by so many that they are the best in town. Oh well maybe next time Im passing thru. They do have beautiful marble countertops though!

The hot chocolate is amazing, the truffles are amazing, the staff is amazing!! Cyle was so kind and fun, he made the experience even better. We went back the day after with the rest of the family because it was so good. Definitely a must visit!

I don’t even drink hot chocolate in the winter…. I had one yesterday in one of the warmest days of the summer and I was blown away! I also bought a bunch of chocolates. If you are looking for a place to have a nice hot chocolate, coffee or both don’t try any other place. The staff is super nice and attentive. Great people and great service. Awesome.

This place is the best. They have such a wonderful variety of chocolatey things! Its a cute shop on the inside with great decor... its fun to look at everything while having a some chocolates. Lots of seating- cool tables and comfy couches. They have a great hot chocolate menu- so many interesting and tasty drinks to try. Today we went in to get chocolate bars and also got some chocolate covered potato chips! All their things are packaged beautifully. Their display case of truffles is a wonder. The chocolates are almost too pretty to eat. Customer service is really top notch as well. Cant say enough good things! Such a gem.

Amazing service and a nice relaxing quiet atmosphere. The chocolate is to die for! I had the Upper Animas as well and it is quite good, nice temperature and a perfect flavor and a hint of cinnamon.

Best. Hot Chocolate. Ever. They even have vegan options. The friendly staff, and the open yet rooted historical ambiance is perfection... but their hot chocolate and VEGAN hot chocolate are the whipped cream & cherry on top of this amazing place as each sip transports you to heaven! Really fun place, renovated to have the old age appearance, especially the roof! Has a very modern feel to it, lots of space with bold statement of chocolates, goodness, and anything in between. Our personal favorite, the chocolate dipped potato chips, you will not go wrong with a quick visit to this shop. Highly recommend the half price rack, with chocolate they need to get rid of, bargain prices!

This place is great and they make the hot chocolate themselves. It was a bit sweet but very good. The whipped cream was just right. Everything seems very upscale and the service is excellent. I highly recommend trying this place out. I definitely hope to be back in the future!

Absolutely loved this place! Not sure if he was the owner but he was very welcoming and knowledgable. Gave us a sample cup of their hot chocolate and I have to say it was so rich and chocolaty. So yummy! The hot chocolate is definitely worth stopping in for. This Is a cute little shop, reminded me of a comfy little malt shop, complete with stools at the counter, tables and a section with couches so you can relax and enjoy the yummy hot chocolate or other chocolate treats that they sell. Their truffles are almost too beautiful to eat...ALMOST! 😁 They have a good selection of chocolate treats including chocolate crumbs mixed with toffee or Chile (they have other mixes) to sprinkle over your ice cream. We had to buy a bag of what they call smelter which is basically scraps of all their different chocolates in a bag (dark, milk and white). I cant wait to make hot chocolate from it or sprinkle some in my coffee. I recommend stopping here while in Durango Colorado, you will NOT be disappointed plus we got excellent customer service. Durango has a ton of coffee shops.However, THIS is the one that I recommend you stop at. With an in-house chocolatier making delightful chocolates all day, and then combining those chocolates in creative ways is even better.I sampled their homemade hot chocolate. Ive never had better.They also serve locally roasted coffee, and are meticulous with how it is made. attention to detail is what sets a coffee shop apart, and this place does not disappoint.Our party had hot chocolate, one of their spicy mochas, and a pour over. Each was sampled, and each was delicious.I travel full-time, and am in a lot of unique establishments. This certainly hits as one of the high points of any of the shops that Ive been to. I highly recommend you stop in.

Absolutely the best coffee shop Ive been to. World traveler who has seen many shops. The coffee is amazing. The chocolate is fantastic. The staff is out of this world. Not too many places compare in terms of friendly, skilled staff.

As soon as I saw the sign I had to circle the block and stop! I was greeted by the most amazing Building smell and the greatest staff! I was offered a sample of the most amazing liquid chocolate drink and was guided to the PERFECT coffee chocolate drink. I browsed the AMAZING chocolatelat an coffee beans. Picking out some chocolate bunnies and bars and chocolate for coffee and milk..i had to force muslef to stop. It was so so great. Im a customer forever!

Oh heaven!!!! Chocolate and coffee, what more could you want!? And not just any chocolate, this is the highest quality stuff! They truly care about their products! Heart and soul goes into every truffle and every bar! The new location is so fabulous! It is nice to just sit at the marble bar and get a fabulous drink and nibble a chocolate! I came almost every day the 5 days I was in Durango!

Came into business with a white cane and ordered one menu item. A white cane indicated I’m blind. Yet, barista felt he needed to “translate” my order. Made of wrong and different from the menu item I ordered. Very rude

Wonderful stuff!

My husband and I enjoyed delicious coffee and chocolates here while we were in town for our honeymoon (driving through to Mesa Verde National Park). The building and bar is gorgeous and you can see them making the delicious treats in back. I had an awesome coffee (cant remember the name but it had coffee shavings on top...if they ask if you want them...just say yes!) made by a quirky and very friendly gentleman. The whole experience was so positive that we not only bought chocolates to go (after having a few truffles and a delicious cookie with our coffee) but I also ordered a gift basket for my husband to remind him the delicious local food in Durango. The basket had such a fun variety (the River Bottom chile is spicy!) and it just brought us back to memories in the mountains. Thank you Animas team and to those looking at this review, do yourself a favor and go get some chocolate. 2020 was a toughy and 2021 aint looking so good either...we all could use some chocolate!

Really unique building, the shop is an old soda fountain with a large mirror behind the fountain and beautiful woodwork. The drinking chocolate is amazingly rich and the beautiful truffles have a huge variety of interesting flavors.

Excellent experience. The staff is very friendly and helpful. This is not only a coffee shop but a chocolate factory. The decor is incredible. The ceiling is covered with tin decorative ceiling tiles making the shop delightfully nostalgic, coupled with the white balcony above it takes you back in time. I had a coffee drink called the Miner Express. Incredible. Peppermint cane, chocolate, whip cream and two shots of espresso. For sale is an enormous selection of gift packs full of chocolate delights. Also for sale are incredible looking truffles and much more. There is a state of the art chocolate factory in the back half of the building and you can watch magic being made through the glass doors. The weather was warm and I had more shopping to do so I was concerned the chocolate I purchased would melt. The man helping me said they would hold my purchase at the shop until I finished shopping. I will be back.

A hot chocolate to-go is the perfect thing if you are downtown in Durango in the winter. This hot chocolate is so very very different from, say, Swiss Miss powder mixed with hot water. Theres just no comparison. The Animas Chocolate drink is made with really smooth milk chocolate and topped with really buttery whipped cream. Delicious! ☕❤️

This is a fantastic coffee shop! It could be because I love hot chocolate so much and its refreshing having so many options to choose from for once. Also, the staff are incredibly nice and attentive. Ive felt very welcome during my two visits here. They also had some free samples (chocolate, strawberries...) on the counter during my visit which is a super nice and friendly touch.Some minor suggestions for improvement: it could use a tad bit more seating - if the shop were to get super busy, I feel that it would be hard to find a spot. Also, the wifi is a little bit slow, making it difficult to work remotely.

This place is so fun. I love the decor and the staff is super friendly. I go there to buy gifts that I mail to family members. I usually send the chocolate potato chips. They have delicious coffee and sipping chocolate. Their chocolate is so delicious. My only complaint is it’s expensive. The truffles are $2-3 a piece. I understand they’re handcrafted and use the best ingredients possible. It’s just a lot to pay for one small piece of chocolate.

A fabulous place to put your feet up and treat yourself! The staff was friendly and helpful (gave us some great recommendations for meals during our visit) and the coffee and pastries are not to be missed! It is a beautiful space where youll want to spend an afternoon, cozy and quaint, but very well cared for. The adult beverage options make it especially easy to relax. We will have to return next time we pass through Durango.

Id definitely recommend stopping in here! The space is bright and has pretty architectural details. I had an almond milk latte and was very happy with my drink. Im always a fan of finding new and delicious coffee shops, so I am happy to add this one to the list.

Stop in to sample the hot chocolate and get a box of truffles. Take them home and cut them into quarters to share with your besties. Super tasty! I like the lemon, blood orange, honey bourbon and coffee chocolate.

Weird vibes from employees ...

The hot chocolate is amazing, however the little chocolate truffles tasted like perfume was sprayed on them. All very expensive. Bought a variety pack. I would have taken it back but I would have spent the same $80 in gas to go back. Definitely taste the truffles before you leave.

Very good customer service and terrific drinks

Had a great time sampling the chocolate truffles with my husband. We both loved the fudge truffle and gold mine toffee truffle. Also enjoyed the hot cocoa, which was excellent. Very friendly staff. Made for some great gifts to take back home with us.

My family and I decided to stop in to satisfy our sweet tooth after lunch. The extremely friendly staff immediately greeted us and made sure we were taken care of. We have two little ones that certainly live up to the Kid in a candy store stereotype but never did the staff make us feel unwelcome. In fact, we decided to order a smore, which was delicious, and were encouraged to get messy. Our experience was so pleasant that we decided to head back the next day for a coffee. This is where it gets real special. After ordering my mocha my son tells me he wants to see whats going on. The man making my drink heard him and actually called my son to go behind the counter so he could help him make my drink. I cannot express how much I appreciated this gesture. It makes all the difference to a little boy. We are from out of town but I would go back to Durango simply to return to Animas Chocolate & Coffee Company.

Staff was friendly and patient as I made my selections they tied up the boxes with different colored ribbon to help us remember which box was which.

Fantastic place!!! We stopped in for a little treat of a breakfast ( chocolate inspired pastries and coffee ). We enjoyed it so much that we purchased some to take home with us as gifts for family. We will definitely come back next time we are in Durango!!
