Staff is knowledgeable. A few months ago it was difficult to get service but they have improved. Lumber is still quite expensive, so DIY is the right way to go.

Very helpful. Had lumber cut and grooved for a fence repair. Good quality cedar for fence rails. Superior friendly service too.

Poor customer service, I spent $1100, and when I returned 1 of my 70 boards, was told I would only get credit for a 6 footer because I had an 8 cut to a 7 ft. Really??? Im rebuilding my deck next month and will be giving my business to La Mesa lumber.

Came in not really knowing much about what I needed for my project. Approached an employee named Tim, he was extremely helpful answered all my questions with a smile on his face and a very professional attitude even when I was getting strange looks from other customers in the store. Good customer service and quality lumber.Our house is extremely difficult to get to when it comes to delivery vehicles larger than a van or SUV. Tim was able to deliver two loads without getting stuck or causing any damage to our yard which isn’t easy to do! He was awesome. Highly recommend.

This is the best place to buy decorative lumber in San Diego. The wood is always of a better quality and the price is comparable if not better. Some places that gear their businesses towards contractors seem to have attitudes but this place is never guilty of that. Weather I go in or my wife grabs a few things we are always treated well and all our questions are answered. Definitely check it out for all your deck, patio, and lumber needs

I came in to inquire about patio covers. I thought wood was my only option, but the manager and ASM were extremely helpful and made the suggestion of aluminum (which I loved). They gave me so many ideas, answered every question (and I had A LOT) and they both were extremely helpful, kind, and patient! Had a wonderful experience here and would definitely recommend this store to anyone who needed lumber or wanted to upgrade the look of their patio. The staff is very knowledgeable and gave me the a sense of accomplishment that my patio would be better than I had originally hoped.

Were currently building a small fence in our yard to hide unsightly pool equipment. We decided to check out J&W in El Cajon as first time customers this weekend. The service provided prompted me to write a review - something I never do. From the time we arrived, we were treated with friendly, smiling faces willing to help us find what we need. The guys in the lumber yard, especially Will, was so knowledgeable about the various types of wood options. The other guys were great too, but I didnt catch their names. We also spent a good amount of time with Alex (Store Manager) who went above and beyond - actually talking us through our project, giving us tips, showing us various stains on different types of wood, etc. The level of service at J&W Lumber is unlike Ive ever seen, in just about any industry. Everyone there was so passionate and knowledgeable, and friendly. Well definitely be back for future needs and recommend you go to them also!

I came here for my fencing project and patio cover and found everything I needed. Coby helped me find the right wood for my project and with custom cuts. He was more than glad to share his knowledge with me. In all my experiences here since the first time, the staff here have all been welcoming, friendly and very helpful. Went in to get ideas on how to go about possibly putting a deck in. Was greeted by a guy name Tim, was helpful and patient with me and all my questions and when he didn’t know an answer he asked his manager. His manager was very kind and patient as well. He offered us water and walked us around the yard so we could get a outside visual of the lumber. He also recommended that we look into composite. i have heard of trex decking before but the Azek was something I never heard about. He advised that Azek has a heat blocker to help with all the sun. I came in knowing nothing about decks, what kind of materials, what to do or even really where to start . . . and walked out much more informed and excited!! They also scheduled for contractors to contact me and come out for estimates and to help with all the ideas. I highly recommend this place for everyone even if you just have questions super helpful honest and nice!

I was referred to J & W Lumber by my handyman, Zack after telling him I priced out wood at Home Depot and Lowes. So, I chose to call J &W Lumber in El Cajon because the house I bought is located near SDSU.I called in with a lot of questions and Dominicc was extremely patient and helpful as I decided to order items for a wood fence. We went through the entire order just for me to change my mind to go with vinyl. He continued to be patient with me and executed an order perfect for my sloped back yard. Once I finally was able to decide on what I wanted, my order was created. Dominicc and his partner, Tim, delivered my items Friday the 18th and they were fast, efficient and very helpful. The person building my fence has already been able to put up one section and it looks great. I will continue to work with this location for all of my fence, decking and planter box needs.

Came to look for siding for our house. The sales rep only showed us a few (expensive) options, and was visibly annoyed when I showed him a picture of what I was looking for. Will not return.

There were termites all over the wood they were selling me. Also poor customer service. Initially they sold me the wrong size wood and when I came back and returned the wood for an exchange the manager was rude.
