I have been purchasing my lumber here for my Carpentry business for 19 years . At first it was not good at all, But then management changed and it has been especially great with Jason as the manager and Todd as assistant. Its a great place to do business. If you dont think so Go to a Manards just once and you will be very happy with Sutherlands

Bought some paint from Sutherlands in Emporia, Kansas. My husband and I wanted the paint a flat color (Forest Black). The older lady who mixed it messed it up the first color and so mixed a new color. Took it home and painted my kitchen cabinets. So our cabinets are blueish grey .. more blue then grey. Took paint back in with receipt and pictures to front customer service desk and talked to s older tall guy about the color being way off and just paid $43.99 for this gallon. The Sutherlands older man said, (verbatim) “ what do you want me to do about it”. My husband and I were taken back by the initial comment. Sutherlands guy made no attempts to make it right. Could have offered to add a color to remaining paint to get as close as our color but he didn’t offer that or anything. We WILL NEVER get paint here and whatever happened to the customer is always right. We would have not been so unsatisfied if the Sutherlands guy would have tried to make it right.

Out of stock.. Every time I go there they are out of stock of something on my list. The workers act like they dont want to be there and wouldnt if not for the pay check . Why the attitude. Plus. When you want a sheet of plywood ripped down the middle. BOTH ends should be 24 wide. not 25 or 23 at one end and 24 at the other. ( El Dorado )

Decent variety. A mini Home Depot if you will. Good selection on the pneumatic hoses I was looking for. Rather lacking selection on couplers/fitting for those hoses. Other departments had a lot more variety than I was expecting. Just depends on what your looking for.

Went for an awesome plant sale. Very friendly service. Unfortunately no herb plants. But did find the veggies I needed. Upon seeing their weekly ads I will be returning.

Large hardware store that usually has everything I need and its location is great for people leaving near the northwest side of town.All the aisles are clearly marked and organized. The staff is always helpful and knowledgable if you have any questions or can always refer you to someone else if they dont know. Prices are competitive.The lumber yard stocks pretty much anything you need and they provide free cuts if you dont have the necessary tools to do so. So those quick small projects are that much easier. Loading is also very convenient.

A large selection of various home improvement and gardening supplies. The prices are a bit higher than someplace like Lowes, but it is local. How knowledgeable the staff is varies highly by individual.

Awesome customer service. I could have went to Home Depot or Lowes in Topeka to save a few bucks on a couple of gallons odd paint and brushes. But figured after gas would probably spansthe same. Plus like to ship local. After I paid the cashier saw my id and said next time i came in too show that first and Id get a %10 military discount. I went to customer service and the manager gave me %10 cash back which i thought was very cool. Ill definately ship here for our home and recommend highly to others. Thanks!!!

Dont use their carts when you have small children. Our 1 1/2 year old fell out of the cart and they told us they werent responsible. Took him to er and found that he had a concussion and primary doctor said they are responsible. They also informed us that its not the first time a child has fallen out of their carts!!! Hello quit being cheap skates and get child safety buckles!!!

Got an add from them, went to the store in Emporia and was told that I have to go out of town to get a 4ft by 100ft straight run chain link fence. Went to Topeka and had 15 minutes till close. The employees there where so plesent and said that the kit is items thats pull off the shelf so the Emporia store could have done that with no problem. As for having the items..Yes the items was on the shelf. I know this cause its what I was looking at, at the start of the visit.

They usually have what you need for home projects. Staff could be more skilled on specific departments in the store.
