The most unorganized ice cream shop on the planet. 4 people in front of me in line and it took 30min to get an order in because they are more concerned about handing out free samples in a dedicated free sample line (?) than taking orders. So, if you want to cut in line do what 10 other people did and go through the sample like and THEN place an order. Never coming back. Im ok waiting for something good but not 30 min a line that is 4 people long.

MOUTHSATIONAL ! After an awesome Dim Sum lunch at CHIKO just up the street we felt like a nice ice cream would be the perfect finish during our Sunday bike ride lunch stop. So we rode our eBikes a few hundred feet to here and parked our bikes on the patio. My wife wanted a small serve of Graham Central Station in a waffle cone ( her fav ) and I was hoping they still had Rum Raisin ( my fav ). ALAS NO RUM RAISIN so I went with Praline Pecan in a chocolate coated waffle cup. Sure has been a while since we have been here. Our ice creams tasted fabulous and remember THEY DO NOT USE HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP ( not healthy ) in their ice cream recipes !

While the ice cream is tasty this place offers ridiculously LARGE servings to really small children. This was my second time there and I made it clear to give my kids just one small scoop of ice cream and she served them two huge scoops. There’s no need to serve such huge sizes and nobody needs a serving that large. For this reason we will not be going back as there are plenty of places that understand the appropriate amount of ice cream for small children.

I ordered a cake for my sons 12th birthday. The service was above and beyond. We will be coming here for every family member birthday going forward. Everyone devoured the icecream cake and asked where did you get such an amazing cake? There are so many different flavor options and I loved that they also offer the convenience of delivery. This is a must for anycelebration.

Our school recently partnered with Ken and Cali Cream for an event and they were wonderful! Responsive and flexible and the kids loved the ice cream! 10 stars! ⭐️

I dont live in the San Diego area but I was visiting my sister and her boyfriend recommended this place and it was amazing. Some of the best ice cream I have ever had we tried 6 different flavors and they were all great. The Elvis flavor was something I didnt expect but totally loved it. Very good customer service I can see why this place had a line out the door. The line went quick and we had a good time thank you I highly recommend everyone try this place.

Same owner and same DELICIOUS ice cream as Handels with a new name and a focus on locally sourced ingredients.They said their locally sourced milk is delivered from the cow to their store location within 7 days!Cali Cream has so many delicious flavors that the 4-flavor flight is a great option so you can try lots at a time! At four small scoops its just a little bigger than the size of their massive double scoop in a cone.Our top favorite flavors are Swiss Orange Chip and Graham Central Station. If youre in a light and refreshing with a hint of chocolatey mood--lavender honeycomb is lovely!Extra happy points for the military discount* :)

Used to be Handels...Ive heard its still under the same ownership. Probably didnt enjoy paying the franchise fee. We tried the Coffee Toffee and the Death by Chocolate...very delicious. Great environment, especially considering the current restrictions on everywhere. Definitely recommend their plain waffle cone.

I cannot wait to go back to this Wonderland of Ice Cream!!!!!There were 60-different flavor options, both Dairy & Vegan.I got the 4-flavor Sampler Platter and I would highly recommend this if youre an Ice Cream connoisseur like me!Every single flavor I got was Spot-On! Great flavor, texture, consistency... And I couldnt tell the difference between the dairy and vegan ones too.Unique options, plentiful variety, parking out front for free on the street... Be prepared to wait in a line as this place is Popular for good reason!!!Easy wheelchair access, but no toilets. Outside seating with heat lamps at night.Amazing staff! Both ladies that served us were awesome! I cant wait to go back here again!!!

Thats an insult, how do you compare grocery store ice cream to Cali......there is no comparison, therere not even in the same league! Owner is very friendly and the prices for a single serving which is more like a triple serving are fair, especially for the quality.

Used to be Handels homemade ice cream. Besides the name, nothing else has changed.I love this place!! They always have new, original flavors and every single one I’ve tried is beyond amazing. From simple to extravagant, it seems they have all flavor bases covered.I like to get a 4x4 cause there’s so many flavors I can never pick just one. The ice cream melts faster than others so be sure to bring a cooler or something if you’re picking some up to bring home and don’t live super close.My favorite flavor lately is ‘it takes two’ it’s like rich chocolate with marshmallow swirl (drool)

GREAT ICE CREAM ! Most of us know that this used to be a Handels site. I spoke with the Ken the owner a couple of years ago and he signaled his intention to withdraw from the Handels franchise system and reopen as Cali Cream with the rider that he would change from the Handels ice cream recipe and stop using high fructose corn syrup....not good for many of us. We decided to give them a crack today....and find out if Ken kept his word about not using high fructose corn syrup. A counter server named Trent assured us that their ice cream did not contain high fructose corn syrup....in fact he showed me a label of the ingredients. My wife ordered a Graham Central Station in a regular cone and I chose Bourbon Butter Pecan in a waffle cone. Our ice creams tasted really good while we slurped them down on the outdoor patio !

Been going here since week 1 when they opened as the first Handel’s in the SD area.Can you take something that is already amazing and make it better?! The answer is yes for Cali Cream!!! These are the original owners from day 1 and what they have done is gone local and independent.We were in for the first time since the switch as regular customers over the years. The owners explained that they now procure local cream that goes from farm to the store in just a few days, vs weeks through the previous national corporate procurement process.The product was always excellent, but WOW, one bite and you can tell a new level of smoothness and creaminess.

This ice cream shop has lots of unique and traditional flavors to choose from. I like how they don’t skimp out on the ingredients, such as the nuts in the mocha almond fudge. The staff here is friendly, and I enjoyed the small conversation we had. They seemed to really enjoy working there and I can tell they have a lot of respect for their boss, like it’s a family friendly work environment. This place is definitely worth stopping by on your way to the beach.

Cali Cream decorated the VERY BEST sea-side themed ice cream cake for my sisters birthday celebration. Complete with graham cracker sand, a cute umbrella and swimming seals! I wish I would have snapped a picture before we enjoyed it at the restaurant, but unfortunately the restaurant staff let the cake melt a little. However, the Horchata ice cream was divine and even with melting a little, the design on the cake held up and was still impressive! I definitely recommend Cali Cream for any custom designed ice cream cake and well be back to try their other flavors of ice cream!

SIMPLY YUMMY ! After lunch on Saturday we promised our little grand daughters we would come here for ice creams.......55 flavors ! My wife tried the Mocha Almond Fudge..liked it but not as much as Graham Central. I had to try ELVIS...Banana, giant Chocolate Chips & Peanut Butter. OMG was it delicious ! Our little girls chose the same.....Confetti Cake because they have had it before when it was called Birthday Cake ( when this was still Handels ). Everyone loved their ice creams !

We have enjoyed this locally owned ice cream shop for years! The ice cream is very creamy and finishes clean in your mouth. There are a lot of flavors from classics to creative. All are delicious! We will go again and again and you should too!

We went into Cali Cream with our family tonight and the ice cream was some of the best ice cream i’ve ever had. We had a young man named Zach help us out and he was so passionate about the ice cream and was very knowledgable about each flavor, and helped us pick out dairy free and gluten free flavors for my kids. Overall, the ice cream and service was amazing and I highly recommend coming here!

The ice cream is delicious.ONLINE ordering is so convenient!Yes, you can order online, specify a time for pickup and the staff will bring the ice cream to your car (or wherever you are standing outside).This is especially handy with a big group. We tried the online ordering for the first time today and worked like a charm.Make sure you predict your pickup time correctly. It didnt seem like the ice cream was stored in a freezer from when they scoop the ice cream to when you arrive. So I recommend you get there about 5 minutes before your predicted time. The store will shoot you a text that your order is ready and you reply back where you are and enjoy!Wheres that 5th star? Today, I went into the store to order and pay. Turns out, they charge a 3% credit card surcharge which I only found out about after I paid and got my receipt. I didnt see any noticable signage, nor did the employee tell me about the surcharge. Id have happily paid cash instead. In my book, its a little deceptive.

Just tried the Vanilla Caramel Brownie and it was excellent. Lots of flavor and very smooth and creamy ice cream. I can’t wait for them to allow samples again so I can try more flavors! Until then, I’ll stick with my favorites!

While I hear thier regular ice cream is amazing, thier dairy free options are pretty poor. Pretty much just rock hard sugar ice. One day Ill bring my lactase pills and give thier regular ice cream a try.

I have been coming here since it was Handels, and now it’s even better! I’m told the owner has the cream delivered fresh from a local farm, and creates the recipes himself, and they make the ice cream in the store everyday. The great flavors that were there when it was Handels are still there, but have been enhanced a little due to more control over the quality of the ingredients. They constantly have new flavors too, like my new favorite—Moonlight Madness! This is the best ice cream around, and the workers are so refreshingly happy and helpful.

So many high quality flavors - my favorites are graham central station and blueberry cobbler. Portions are pretty big - most of the time I’ll split a single with someone or ask for a pint to save half for later.

I was at Cali Cream in Encinitas and called to place an order over the phone but didn’t realize I’d called the San Diego store. I placed the order with Gage and she helped me choose the best flavor (lavender honeycomb) and said she would bring it out to me, which she tried to do but I wasn’t in San Diego! When we both figured out what had happened she said that it was no problem and to order the same thing in Encinitas and she would call and let that store know that I had already paid. So someone had to ‘eat it’ in the SD store and it wasn’t me. I offered to pay both stores but she said no worries. This is the epitome of great customer service. It makes me want to return to Cali Cream all the way from Idaho just for a cool product with cool service. People talk about their experiences with customer service. I’m sure I will tell this story again. Thank you for great customer service Gage!

Best Ice cream in San Diego and beyond! Can not express enough how amazing their ice cream is! I do not like fro yo or gelato I am a die hard ice cream only fan. Cali cream does not disappoint, they have 20+ flavors and are always adding more. The service is fast and friendly. Today I had their Rootbeer float ice cream flavor and I was in heaven. Creamy vanilla swirled with rootbeer flavored ice cream. Perfectly creamy not icy, amazing.

What an awesome evening, for the 3rd time this week...You see I burned my mouth eating hot chili so was not able to tolerate regular food...except ice cream. It was my first time at Cali Cream (formerly known as Handels). The menu has changed, slightly, but the ingredients have gone above and beyond. The cream Ken and Juli (owners) use is Local therefore much fresher. How do I know this? Ken and Juli spent about 25 minutes talking with my family and I. They are also working with a Pecan grower in Texas (growing Pecans since 1888) so their Butter Pecan has the freshest Pecans possible. They are also talking about a Rum-Raisin Ice Cream...I can hardly wait. Ice Cream for adults!Love it! Ken and Juli are the epitome of Downtown Encinitas...super down to earth. All their success has not gone to their heads, they are very grateful to be in one of the most amazing areas in the world, Moonlight. Theyve worked really hard to get to this level. If you get a chance ask Ken and Juli what they had to do to get the store opened, 1st Handels and as the now incredible Cali Cream (I encouraged him to write their story so it can be shared, they are such an inspiration).
