Horrible place with horrible owner.As a disabled person with a service animal I was turned away. I expressed to the sales person that my 6lb dog strapped to my chest was trained as a service animal for my disability.. she insisted on getting the owner. I told the owner that my dog was a service animal and she said, she didnt believe in pet ownership. She that my entering her store violated her rights and beliefs.

We absolutely love this store. They have incredible prices, and their jewelry is like nothing else I’ve seen. We came in on a busy day and Catherine gave us wonderful service! While being pulled in all directions she still managed to be incredibly helpful, attentive, and fast. Catherine, you’re my hero!

We have been in the area most of the Summer. We went into this store previously and had a great time shopping. Went in tonight to celebrate a milestone for my oldest daughter and we were treated terribly by the older woman who worked there. She treated my kids like criminals even though there were other teenagers in there roaming about. My middle daughter was really upset and in tears when we left. She gave me dirty looks and then rang up someone else instead of us when we were clearly in line. I felt so hurt that she needed to treat us like that on what was supposed to be a treat that my girls had looked forward to all week. I will admit my 7 year old was having a hard time and throwing a fit that I was struggling to keep under control but she was tired and being crabby which is not uncommon for 7 year olds and I had no choice but to bring her. I am sad that I have given this place money after tonight. I wish people could treat others with respect, especially those with all the acceptance flags and signs. We deserved better tonight.

Grew up in Evanston and I can say this is one of the towns best hidden gems. Gorgeous and unique jewelry. Its my go-to spot when shopping for delicate, dainty pieces - all amazing quality.That being said, I do agree with a previous comment about constantly being monitored by employees.

I was hoping to see a store with actual Mexican accessories or SOMETHING relating to the title name... What I found was a lot of very overpriced but for the most part underquality items that are, forgive me for being blunt, very white. Would rather just go to the nearest supermercado lol. Very disappointing but not surprising

I just wanted to say that i’m so happy this historical landmark store is still in business. i love that it’s an analog store in a digital world. if you don’t appreciate a unique store that has been painstakingly curated by real humans then go to your computerized shopping experiment *cough cough* amazon

I absolutely love this store! It is truly an Evanston gem that EVERYONE needs to visit to see what the rage is all about. Whether you want to pick yourself up on a gloomy day with a fun piece of jewelry, colorful socks, or retro sunglasses - this is the place for you. Plus they have cool merchandise at every turn, and the store isn’t small, so give yourself some time to peruse. I love getting gifts here and NEVER leave empty-handed. Bonus: if you love the 80s like me, you’ll always leave with a little dose of nostalgia. Staff is great, too!They are closed for winter break for a couple months, but be sure to pay them a visit once they are back up and running! You’ll be glad you did. ❤️

Quirky shop has been a staple for gifts forever, and for good reason. Well curated, mostly accessories, jewelry, some clothes, all of it cheeky and reasonably priced. If you could use some disco sun glasses and socks that instruct others to F off, this is your place. Staff is great. Fyi they close in late winter for a couple months.

This is a great place to pick a little something up. Unusual things, great gifts. The 3 rating is for 2 reasons. You feel like you are being watched every second. Its not a relaxing shopping atmosphere as I normally enjoy. They seem uptight and not social.2ndly there is a very strange aroma at the door, entrance. It must be mildew, however it hits your nose like body order!Fortunately its only at the front door when you smell this odor. Otherwise its affordable...

Love this place! The jewelry is so beautiful and unique. Its all reasonably priced and while the quality varies, its mostly good! I got the chance to talk to the owner today, and she was super nice. Overall, its a great place to buy cool gifts.

This is, by far, the most vibrant, unique clothing, jewelry and accessories store in Evanston. It is well worth the trip to visit! The stock is renewed each year, and is hand-picked by the owner who has a wonderful, stylish eye! I cant say enough good things about this shop!! I certainly cant wait to go back... again...to see their latest stock!!!!

My wife knows the secret, so now I can publicly say this is the go-to gift shop (for women) in Evanston. Always find great unique fashion jewelry at a good value. The limited hours make it hard to spend much time here, but understand they have to keep the overhead low to keep prices down. Great place. Check it out.

Quaint, friendly staff. A little on the pricey end and its kind of hit or miss on the quality, but as long as you take the time to try things on you should be just fine. Ive walked out with something adorable that I love everytime Ive gone in.

Im disappointed that I have to write this review, but I have to share since this is one of the worst customer service experiences Ive ever had. I used to be a loyal Mexican Shop customer, but a sterling silver necklace I bought there broke, and when I went back into the store with it, they were unwilling to do anything about it. The associate just explained to me that they dont guarantee any of their merchandise against breakage and that the tiniest tug would break a sterling silver necklace like mine. This patronizing attitude is beyond rude, and the Mexican Shop shouldnt be carrying garbage they know will break. My advice: stay away from any jewelry costing more than $20 and know that what you buy there will not last.

Clothing wise, Id put it in the $30-40 range, on sale $15-30, very trendy (tons of long A-line skirts with matching crop tops) & boho. Tons of delicate boho accessories (jewelry, sunglasses & handbags) & cute gifts (spotted some home decor & dishes!).

Shopping at The Mexican Shop, 801 Dempster St, Evanston, IL 60201 is always a fun adventure for my group. From earrings to handbags everyone will find something.

Xmas shopping, young and old, for all the ladies in my life done in one visit

I always stop by the Mexican Shop when Im in Evanston and load up on gifts for birthdays and holidays. I just bought a spectacular angelite pendant on a long silver chain for my mother in law and she is wild about it. And for a friend who has a birthday this weekend I got a pair of je taime ankle socks and a super cool leather sunglasses case. You wont find these items in other stores--which is what makes this store such a find.
