We got our mini macaw ( Hahn’s Macaw) from here, it was in good health and very friendly.

I visited this weekend and walked around observing birds for about 20 minutes. It was crowded, hard to walk through (because it was so crowded), and stank so badly. Every cage was filthy - some of the water bowls had clearly gone bad. So many birds looked sick. As for supplies, I only saw a very small variety of toys, perches, etc.Also, be prepared for an awful parking situation. It was almost impossible to pull out without hitting oncoming traffic.The worst part though was in my visit I didnt see, or was approached by any other humans or employees once. Not once. As far as I could tell I was alone. It was so loud all I could hear were birds. I could have walked in, grabbed a bird, and walked out and nobody would have ever known - and knowing how delicate these poor creatures are, thats what scares me the most. That anyone with bad intentioms could walk in and do that.

The staff was very nice and welcoming I came in to get my birds nails clipped and a tag tightened. They did it all for free and gave me a list of places to go if I wanted the tag removed. They also offered me a nice stick of millet! Ill make sure to buy toys and anything else for that store in the future 🙂 5/5 starts and would definitely recommend people over there ☺️

Best place to get a pet bird, i got a mitred conure ~2 years ago and the bird has always been healthy playful and very smart, highly recommend, the owner ed is amazing, will always do business with them and will always love this place.

The most disgusting place to walk into where birds are on display, it smells like pure ammonia, It takes your breath away. I wouldnt even give it one star.

Although the store might be small they have a variety of birds to pick. They have safe equipment such as toys/and things to clean your cage. VERY friendly and kind such help.

My cockatiel came home right after being weaned. The little bird has developed a strong, fearless personality filled with curiosity and confidence. The preparation and support from the staff is always top notch.

Like any exotic pet store, its not perfect, but my wife and I had a positive overall experience during the process of getting our baby caique. The birds are relatively pricey, as one should expect for exotics that live 30-80 years, but they take very good care of their babies. The store is small and cramped - theres no getting around that - but the selection of supplies is surprisingly robust. Ed and the staff are knowledgeable and will sit and answer any question, so long as the store isnt too full (which it can be at times, so dont expect a quick in and out). Most importantly for us, after we put down a deposit, they allowed us to socialize our baby bird whenever we would like during store hours, so we stopped by at least twice a week for nearly 3 months and handled our specific baby for 15 minutes to an hour each time, no questions asked. We also got to know and handle a few store birds, which was really cool. This also allowed us to figure out what our caique liked in store, so we could just pick up toys and supplies as we went along. I cant overstate how helpful this was, as our bird essentially grew up with us and was fully socialized when we took her home. Weve had her for nearly 5 months now and shes been an absolute gem. We also picked up two lovely canaries from ABC. Overall, Id recommend ABC, but be aware of what youre getting into when considering a parrot.

Beautiful and amazingly cared for birds. Ed, Maria, and the rest of the staff are all very kind and knowledgeable. After my first call I was confident this was the place for me. The next day was my first visit and within minutes I had a deposit down for a baby green cheeked conure.This isnt a pet shop, this is a true aviary for very friendly hand raised/fed companions. Ill be visiting my new friend frequently until he is ready to come home!!

I wonder if Pat still works there. We bought three birds from her 21 years ago. Two of them are still going strong! They are so affectionate, they are amazing. They have become part of our family. American bird company is the BEST place to buy a bird. Highly recommend!

The owner, Ed, was awesome! He made me feel welcome, was knowledgeable, and patient with me as I made sure I was choosing the correct bird for me. I ended up going with a plum headed parakeet, who was very hand tame and friendly from the day I first met her. Ed showed me everything I would need, recommended a vet, and even gave me his cell phone number in case I ever have any issues. I will 100% be going back to his store for whatever I need and boarding during vacations!

Small location with many exotic birds. Very expensive. It was packed. One lady was talking to the owner with no mask on so we decided to leave.

They have everthing you need for your bird the staff are really good.

Staff is very friendly. The bird toys, perches, food are all good quality. Some things are on the pricier side but I havent bought a toy that my green cheek or cockatiel didnt love and play with.They offer free nail clipping and wing clipping but I only ever get the nails done. I was impressed by their boarding options but I havent had an opportunity to try it.

Why does it smell so horrible in this store?? How can you have so many birds and not keep up with the maintenance? Keeping the birds in an unhealthy environment is unacceptable. I never recalled this place having such a foul smell. Will not purchase items from this place or birds.

I went on Dec 1 2019, And me and my family loved the place it was a place I could get bird supplies I even brought a toy. It was filled with birds and differn types of birds but I loved there umbrella cockatoo

We just purchased a lovely baby Quaker and are so delighted with it. The owners were very helpful and took time to go into detail for the care of our new baby. It was a wonderful experience for my children as there are so many different types of birds to interact with and learn about.

I was very surprised at the amount of birds they had in each cage. Everything was pretty pricey but thats to be expected with birds. They have a very large variety but a really small store. I did not purchase a bird from here but I do have a Senegal of my own!

This is the only place I would purchase a bird from in the Washington DC area. The quality and temperament of all their birds cant be beat! While you might find a bird cheaper elsewhere, you wont find the quality that you get here. I highly recommend that you check them out!

Ed and his bird store are amazing. I board my African Grey at Eds shop when I travel, and I trust that my Grey will be taken care of well. He also sells bird and parrot accessories and food. When speaking with Ed, you can clearly tell that he genuinely cares about birds and is very knowledgeable. Bird and parrot owners really need a place that supports our Bird ownership, and Eds shop is THE place in this area.

Drove 4 hours to check this place out, and was not disappointed. Super friendly staff, and they were very knowledgeable about any type of parrot you could think of, my favorite part of the trip was meeting their pet umbrella cockatoo, snowball, absolutely the sweetest bird I’ve ever met.

The people here are great! The store is busy often but they make sure you are taken care of. Most of their birds are super friendly and hand trained. You can really tell they care about their birds.

This was my first trip here today. I have fallen in love with this store. The gentleman who runs the place is super knowledgeable and didnt mind (at least he didnt seem to lol) me asking a bunch of question... Love this place. We will shop his small business from here on out.

Great store to get a bird, the stores staff is very friendly and helpful and Bird prices are reasonable because compared to petsmart or petco, those prices are very expensive and the age of the bird is unknown.

The people working there were very kind and allowed us to hold birds. They said they’d call us when they got the next shipment of what we needed. All of the bad reviews state that the birds are overpriced but birds can be expensive since they are a pet that you need to devote time and care to. All of the birds were in great conditions.they brought out a maccaw that had taken someone’s necklace and got the necklace piece out of its throught.

I went here just looking for a small/medium sized bird. The Guy I spoke to on the phone told me they we all hand raised and are really nice and that he had a couple of 2017’s hatchlings and he would “cut me a deal” So I go and check out The American Bird Company only to be heartbroken. The birds were kept in cages way too small, they all had poop around them. The cages were dirty. With the exception of The macaws in the front the and the baby cocktails. The baby cocktails were loving because they were still being fed formula and the guy was trying to sell me an unweaned bird. He was keeping about 12 cocktails in a small cage, keeping Amazon parrots in a conure sized cage, he was keeping 3-4 TGCC’s in a cage made for a small rodent. Every bird with the exception of maybe 3 are extremely aggressive and seem like they haven’t been handled in forever. The poor birds dishes didn’t have a single fresh fruit or veggie. And no toys. They cages are stacked up to 6 feet high. From my understanding the new owner is an investor and just doesn’t care. He was man handling the birds and was very unpleasant. Please get your winged loved one for somewhere else.
