I got a Root Beer Float, which I am surprised they sold to a minor (me). The root beer float was delicious and satisfied my taste buds immensely! For a reasonable price I got three (full) scoops of vanilla ice cream poured into my foamy root beer cup. The outdoor facility of this establishment was reminiscent of a picnic area in the hold, but it suffices. This pleasant experience was hindered by the HAUGHTY, LOUD, AWFUL announcement voice! I was just trying to shovel some beer coated spoonfuls of ice cream while I was interrupted by this annoying voice calling out orders. I don’t understand how there is any reason to shout orders outside when the orders are given and taken INSIDE. I had a GREAT time getting ice cream and slushies with my FRIENDS, and WILL absolutely be planning on coming back soon for more TASTY cream

The food is really tasty. I especially love the Gillesburger which is a sloppy joe. Custard is a treat. Only complaint is that I think prices are about 20 to 25 % too high...especially considering the size of drink cups. Gilless large borders on small at McDonalds.

Hi, I have eaten at Gillies more than 1,000 times and have ordered the Big Daddy Burger close to half of my visits. I really enjoy it - a lot. The burger is a massive topping filled burger of deliciousness. I personally believe that the Big Daddyburger is the best item to order at Gillies´ for individuals with large appetites because of its flavor, how much it fills you, and it is reasonably priced.With its large patty, soft bun, crisp onions, crunchy lettuce, juicy tomatoes, and the best condiments ketchup and mayo, the flavor of the Big Daddy Burger is immaculate. Flavor is a key role in making or breaking a food. The best part is that the toppings do not overpower the flavor of the beef, which is always a struggle when you add a lot of toppings. The soft bun adds an amazing effect on the texture and flavor with a more subtle taste to even out the sharp flavor of everything else. The crispy onions and crunchy lettuce add a nice crunch and additional texture to the burger. The final thing on the flavor scale is the ketchup and mayo. I dont know what kind they use but it really does explode flavor into your mouth. Its just magical.On top of the flavor, it fills you just enough to where you are very full when you finish your fries, drink and custard. The reason that it fills you so much is because it is very large. I would go as far as to say that it has the circumference of a newborns head. I find that being full after eating a nice flavorful burger is enjoyable because after you eat it you are not thinking to yourself I want another more.. It is just a very rewarding experience because it is not too greasy to where youd get some form of stomach ache or feel disgusting.With the delicious flavor and filling it is also amazingly priced for its size. The Big Daddy Burger is not the most expensive item on the menu, even though it is one of the largest. With all of the toppings, and possibly more if you pay extra, it is only $5.80 for a regular. I find that just astonishing because the normal cheeseburger is only 5 cents cheaper at $5.75, and the bacon cheeseburger is $7.75, which is almost $2 dollars more! Now I realize that on each of these you can basically get the same thing but for some items you have to pay extra to get them and for the Big Daddy Burger you get it all included.The Big Daddy Burger is the best item to order at Gilles´. For individuals with a large appetite it will leave you full and satisfied. Not only is it filling but also packs a ton of flavor and makes you want to go back to Gilles´ over and over again.

Great ice cream plus variety of sandwiches. Ample parking every time I went. They say it is the oldest custard place in Milwaukee.

Googles price rating for this place is way too low. Its an ok place but very expensive for what it is. The food isnt anything you cant find cheaper and similar quality at a hundred other places in Wisconsin, including several within a few minutes drive of there. I just got a hamburger, fries, soda, and sundae, for one person, and my bill was over $18.

Will never visit Gilles again, rude staff ( Noelle G) and rude assistant manager. I go every week and the prices are always different. They over charge high school teenagers. When i confronted them about it the Assistant manager told staff (not thinking that I heard him) Just agree with the customer even though they are wrong Wont get a penny of my money again!!!!!!

These workers here are super sweet and they give great advice. Even as busy as it was they werent flustered at all. The custard was delicious as always. This will always be a go to spot for good dessert

The real deal custard stand that has grown up a bit to offer more. Been coming here since I was a kid...because my parents lived in the area before I was born and frequented Gilles. Took my 93 year old mother here for her recent Birthday outing and she had her favorite Turtle sundae. Loved it!

Given the recent changes in staffing and COVID-19 regulations, my experience at Gilles was great, the custard is better than your typical custard. They have many different food options within American cuisine. The prices are reasonable considering the quality. Overall a good experience and would recommend to others.

Great place to go for burgers and custard, I was taken here for my birthday on the way to a Brewers game and I was blown away by my burger. If I get the chance to go back before a game sometime Im going. Prices are quite reasonable to at least in my opinion

Discovered Gilles when I was riding my bike. Decided to phone in with an order and pick up on the East side of the building to avoid going inside where it was quite busy. It was nice that I had that option! Went with a Strawberry Sundae and it was alright. Ill come back here with friends if were in the area.

Local custard shop! Always happy with the service. Compared to competitors, I think the custard is a bit less expensive. Recommend Gilly bar, turtle sundae, and Blue moon shake (special).

Arrived at 7:55pm on 5/5 to find the small place pretty much packed. They had enough employees taking orders & cooking that orders were filled efficiently & fast. Within 6 minutes I received my order & it was correctly made & delivered hot. Neither the burger or the fries were greasy & the burger was cooked just to done, not overcooked & dried out. Choices for food & ice cream are Junior or Regular size. For desserts they have a frozen custard of the day, an assortment of sundaes, or you can make your own. Also, if this is your first time visiting, talk to the staff & youll get a surprise. Many people complain about the cost of the food, but check out Culvers meals & dessert choices, & youll notice the prices are similar & food looks more appetizing from Gilles. No flat burgers served here. Dont eat here often, but once in a while you need to treat yourself.

A long time Milwaukee custard eatery. Fresh custard daily, daily flavors. Makes me proud we have such fine places. My wife, son and i love the custard. Simple, ordinary building but there is the glory of its locale and friendly staff. If you have the chance, stop by for food and custard. Love their sandwich of the month specials.

I wanted to give this restaurant 5 stars but some of the staff and the quality and size of the dining area prevented me from doing so. 7 of us stopped in around 12:45 on 12/27/2019 for lunch. 2 tables immediately ajacent to the door were pulled together and would accommodate us. However the table was dirty and the plastic seats had dirt on them like they were used for standing on. I asked 2 people immediately behind the counter if I could get the tables and chairs cleaned. I was completely ignored. I actually said it loud enough that other diners looks at me when I said it. Normally I would have left but my out of town family was already ordering. We placed our order and I found a staff member and had him was the table and clean up the chairs. The food was pretty good. This restaurant started in 1933, obviously was a drive in style and now has the old walk up windows closed in which became the small dining area. Probably might accommodate about 30 people. The drive through seemed slower than most restaurants of that type. When I took the pictures, the drive through was empty. Further evidence of the age of the building, the restrooms are on the outside of the building. Each a one holer. But clean, modern and handicap accessible.

Historical food and Custard joint in Milwaukee. One of the places that make Milwaukee great. Well known that Bud Selig always has lunch at the place. I actually saw him once. classic custard stand with good food. My inlaws had their first date here 50 years ago. Known for their sloppy Joe mix they put in burgers or on dogs. Dont plan on sitting, very limited space inside in Winter. In summer lots of room outside but many people eat in their car. Prices are good and a great place for the family.

I would give them 5 stars but honestly the staff there is very unprofessional. Especially Bryce and her sister Riley. I have never been treated with so much disrespect as customer. Stopped by for our 1st visit recently. I got a brownie sundae and my hubby got a grasshopper sundae. Both were good, i personally didnt love the brownies used, but there were a bunch (other places barely give you any, they were not lacking here) the custard itself was awesome! Next time Ill try a different item. Freindly staff, quick service.On our 2nd visit we tried hot foods and more desserts. Our son guilted us that we tried Gilles out without him!The desserts here are far better than the hot foods in our opinions.The burgers were ok (honestly, currently better than Kopps since Kopps seemedto change theirs), our son HATED the chicken tenders, we both tried them and agreed, they were terrible! My first experience was good! Definitely a good place for frozen custard and onion rings. My only thing I didnt care for was the price on burgers for what I received. The burgers could have been more flavorful. I also wasnt a fan if the french fries. Ill definitely be back for dessert! Place is adorable, staff is friendly and things move quickly. I have never heard of this place until my van broke down in front of place so I pulled in to assess the van. I realized the van wasnt moving and it was late. I went in and ask a manager if I could park for night and work on in morning she said no problem. Came back next day to fix. I ate lunch there and the food was great also had a butterscotch malt my fav. Lets just say I will go out of my way to eat here. I thank the managers for the hospitality and the staff for the friendly fast service. If I could give more stars I would.Thank you.
