I’ve been here a few times get a Lotta comics from the one dollar bin I don’t recommend buying action figures there unless you like stuff from the 90s and occasionally good early 2000s figures. Overall the prices are pretty reasonable based on what I’ve bought and I found some pretty good things there. I’ve never really bought a comic outside of the one dollar bin because I’m cheap and Honestly comics can be kind of expensive but so far I have enjoyed what I’ve bought. Most of the things you can find are brand new. I would recommend going if you’re in the area. Overall I’m happy with the place The owner is nice from what i’ve seen.

We visited the Big Dog Comics while visiting from North Carolina with my husband and kids. We had the best time. He had the most amazing vintage and new comics, statues, you name it. He had obscure items as well, like Sandman. Joel made our vacation memorable. We will be back.

Got to the store at noon (when they open) its pitch black inside but the door is open. I go in the owner come in says its not open. When? I ask.Im opening late, in an hour or so.Well Im here, I dont want to come back or wait can we do this now?No, I will open later.I left.I drove there and was looking to buy, but he was clearly annoyed by my wanting to shop. I did what I should have in the first place and bought Online.This is why brick and mortar fail.

This comic book shop and table top gaming center has so much untapped potential. First the comic book shop. The amount of comics and memorabilia is amazing. They have so much to offer the avid reader to the hardcore collector. The issue is this place is an absolute mess. There is stuff just trown everywhere with no ryme or reason. Boxes just stacked up, many of them blocking walkways to be able to see everything. Many items are not marked with prices. So you have to ask how much everything is. He doesnt have set prices. They will just google the item and check prices on ebay to give you the price. The price given on a few items were actually marked up from ebay, I checked after I saw he was doing this. It took more than 5 minutes per item I asked about. When I did try to make a purchase on an item that was marked with a price the owner tried to pull the same shenanigans. The figure was marked 21.99 and then at check out he tried to charge 29.99. Lets say he can keep his collection intact at that point. He does not want to make sales, he just wants people to come in and look at his collection of items. Now talking about Thunderdome it is the same story. A great amount of space for tabletop games but a disaster on the inside with many items just tossed on the tables. This shop as well had many older items that many collectors might want to purchase but nothing was marked with a clear price and when asked about items the same type of sale tactics were applied here as well. There are items in the display cases that are not even for sale. Why would items be displayed in a store under glass and not be for sale. I really can not see how these shops are not breaking some type of safety code. As well as I can not see how this place is still in business when the owner really doesnt want to sell anything. I understand that prices fluctuate on memorabilia items but the cost does not and if the owner wanted to sell things he could but does not really want too. If you are looking to spend 20 minutes of your time looking and old toys and other things knowing you wont be able to buy anything this is the place for you.

I could have stayed all day long!!!! The owner is such an amazingly nice guy! Right when we stepped in the door he directed our boys to a table to choose some free comic books. Then my inner nerd exploded! I couldnt stop drooling at all the cool stuff he has in there. I need to go back and spend a couple solid hours just gazing at all the treasures. I felt like a kid again! Everything from comics to collectibles to monster mags to Godzilla VHS tapes I bought. This is hands down the coolest place Ive stumbled upon since moving to the Treasure Coast! Cant wait to come back! Thank you so much!

Absolutely horrible place to buy comics from. Guy will take your comics and sit in front of you and re-price everything as he scrolls through eBay with the pace of a snail. Price your books dude its incredibly lazy. Pretty sure what youre doing isnt legal either. Its a shame in the comic book industry. I avoid this place and suggest to others in the Treasure Coast area to as well. Collectors Comics and Da Vincis 2 are way more deserving of your business.

Stay away. The guy loves to rip people off. New comic books he charges the sticker price plus 2 dollars. Rip off and the store. His establishment is a trip hazard. Accident waiting to happen.

Wasnt expecting to have such a pleasant time at Big Dogs. Could of stayed all day talking comics with the owner, very knowledgeable. Will definitely be coming by next time Im visiting Port St Lucie.

A bit messy but none the less still a good place

One of the shadiest, most under-handed individuals Ive ever seen run a comic establishment. Back when my friends and I were DESPERATE for a local place to gorge ourselves on comics and the like, we would go here in a pinch. However, between multiple instances of the owner actively changing prices on items that were brought up once he checked eBay and an instance in which he practically held a Heroclix figure hostage from myself and attempted to trade me something of substantially less worth in exchange, Id recommend you spend your money elsewhere.

Captain Joel is such a good guy... Place is bursting at the seams with cool stuff.

Not sure if its new and theyre just not unpacked...or if they like the clutter. The guys working there are cool. I guess the mess kind of makes it like a treasure hunt. My kid liked it there.

I go to this store a few times a month, and am overall very happy with it. Its a great place to nab that back issue that the big places may have run out of. Plus, this store actually has Image and indie titles! Great variety for a smaller owned store.

No need to leave your house and go to the store. When you take your purchase to the register they look it up on eBay. Save time and gas just buy it for the same price on eBay.

Love this shop! Its the only shop Ill go to in the treasure coast for comics. Huge selection and great backstock and the employees are super helpful.

Have tons of stuff. Never would have thought the store was that big. Prices seem good and the owner likes to make deals it seems. I got a todd ugliest kid in the world #1 which is an $80 for $40 and a buch more. Love the shop and will be going back.

I just left this store, I tried to buy two comics price tagged with $10 on them, about 10-12 comics from his $1 bin for my kids. When I handed them to him to check out, he started searching ebay for prices and then informed me that the two $10 books would be $20 each or $30 for the pair. He informed me that in a Collectors Market it is difficult to keep up with current pricing and he hasnt priced his back issues in over two years. I left the store without purchasing anything and explained to my kids in the car the immoral, if not illegal, tactics that Captain Joel uses in his store. We will not be returning to this store ever.

I found a bunch of comic books here to purchase. When I brought them to the counter, I was told that they were improperly priced and this dude tried to charge me 3-5 times the price on the books. While he was trying to pull this one off on me, he was telling a kid who was trying to sell him a set of the wolverine miniseries that the books were in great shape, but the bags were really crappy so the books were only worth a couple of bucks. Yes, he actually said the value was low because of the conditiin of THE BAGS THEY WERE IN. Not only will I not be going back to this store, I strongly discourage anyone from wasting their time shopping there. Unless you want to dig through unorganized boxes and shelves to find books you want, then be told that the books are waaaay more expensive than the prices on them. Needless to say, I told him to have a nice day and walked out without purchasing anything from this weasel. Do yourself a favor-stay away.

Prices are too high to bother. Also store is very messy - things just haphazardly thrown into piles all over the room - no idea whats there and what isnt, whats for sale and what isnt. Also the poor leopard geckos are always kept in horrid conditions (poop everywhere, no water, stuck sheds, etc.)

Capt. Joel is everything that a comic book store owner should be. Ive been buying from him since the late 80s and i will continue to for as long as hes around. SUPPORT LOCAL COMIC SHOPS!!!

There is a ton of merchandise, so much that I would say it is a little cluttered, but the owner either has whatever it is you need or, will assist you in finding whatever you are looking for.

If you are looking for something old/rare in gaming/collectibles/comics, this store probably has it.
