Slim selection as far as modern and lightweight gear and clothing. The staff can be very condescending and seem to think they are wilderness guides or something. Overall weak/underwhelming outfitter.

Had an amazing experience at Trail House - needed a pair of hiking shoes that would work for me and came in with some ideas. The knowledgeable staff assessed my needs, my foot shape, etc - and found me a fantastic shoe. Not what I would have bought online for myself and Im so happy I went in. I got a great shoe and learned things about my foot shape I wasnt aware of and will definitely use that information moving forward. We have stopped here two times while on the way to some nearby hikes. Both times Ive found what I needed and been helped by pleasant staff. They have a really nice selection of hiking footwear. Nothing super heavy duty like mountaineering boots, but we dont really need that around here. Lots of maps, too! Pets welcome which is a big bonus, and their shop dog is adorable and friendly

Still requiring masks for entry. At this point, my opinion is that vaccinated individuals should no longer be required to wear masks in this store. Because it seems arbitrary (and on some level discriminatory), I felt the need to rate them low.

Great spot, glad I found it so I can shop local for camping, outdoor and home items!! The tree straps I went in for were very fairly priced, their sanitary and safety practices were better than the other couple places Ive been. Also, they didnt carry the bamboo utensils I was looking for but the staff pointed me in the direction of some other local stores to check. Very good experience, will be back!

I wouldn’t say it’s an outdoor store as much it is a signature fishing shop. They have really great quality items for everything outdoor, but are more focused on the fishing aspect. I heard about trailhouse being locally owned and right in downtown so I decided to give them a shot over some of other big chains in the area. I gotta say, I love this place. I bought climbing shoes and some camping gear. Everyone on staff is kind and helpful. Any issues I had they were able to work with me. Highly recommend coming here for your camping & climbing needs.

Harder to find a dynamic rope in Frederick than I would have thought! Not a big climbing section, but these guys had exactly what I needed!!On another note I spent a few mins checking out the store. A good quality gear shop with all the essentials. Not a big shop, but still covers all the camping/hiking bases without feeling crowded at all and what they do have is very good quality gear. Friendly staff -- solid little shop and very cool location! Defintely worthy of your time.

This is a great place to shop! Great selection of items, and the best part... if they don’t have it in stock (which is pretty rare to begin with) they’ll order it for you! I wear a size 15 shoe and have had several frustrating experiences trying to by shoes in the past. I stopped by The Trail House and was able to have them order several varieties in my size and call me when they arrived.During the process I never felt like a burden to the team at the store and they insisted that I try the shoe at home with the option to return the pair if they werent right for me. I appreciate the time the staff at The Trail House took making sure I found a shoe that worked well for me. I look forward to future visits and having a destination to try on and purchase shoes.

A little pricey and you may find item you need online less expensive. If youre in a pinch however and need that great unique outdoorsy kind of gift or special treat for yourself this is the local place to get it.

Ive been coming to the trail house for years and this is my first horrible experience. Little assistance given and any assistance I got was useless. No stock for items I wanted to try on. In the past the staff were attentive, friendly and effective.

Nice enough store. The owner was not friendly with us at all and in my opinion was quite rude. Im not sure why she was this way but she lost customers due to her lack of customer service during our interaction.

Most helpful outfitters Ive come across. I desperately needed a new pair of shoes for my thru hike and this is one of the only outfitters Ive come across close enough to the trail that carries a small enough size for my foot. Its hard to find an outfitters with a wide range of shoes and sizes. Thanks for being hiker friendly!

Trailhouse is a great place! The employees are very knowledgeable, helpful and non-forceful. Great people and their selection is great as well. Some of the most expensive jackets they dont carry because not enough people buy them. However, I looked at several jackets there, and ended up buying one on Ebay, but went back there deliberately to buy my next item because I had such a great experience there.

I could not recommend a store OR its staff more highly.Back in June, I was visiting family and shredded my well-worn and much loved Vibrams to pieces on a trail. Hiking was on our daily schedule and I was in a major pinch to replace them quickly.The store was well stocked with a variety of brands and shoes. The way they made Vibrams had changed a bit since my last pair, but Katie and Jeff helped me find the PERFECT shoe that was also perfect for my price range. They actually made the whole shopping process (which I typically dread) a lot of fun, too.During my time with them, the staff also introduced me to the Altra brand – just for consideration and because I was open to it. (They werent, in any way, pushy.) My feet felt like they were walking on air, but I was hesitant to make such a drastic change from a minimalist shoe on the fly with so many more miles immediately ahead.Fast forward to this past week/late September: My (super cool) mom knew that I had decided to get a pair of Altras and headed to the shop to purchase a pair for my birthday. Katie was working, amazingly remembered our encounter (down to which Altra shoe I had tried and loved so much) and helped Mom pick out the right pair. WHO DOES THAT?! Well, Katie does. Shes awesome.The store itself is beautiful. Its wonderfully stocked. Even if it was neither of these, Id go just because the staff are THAT good. They know their stuff, they know what to recommend if youre open to recommendations, and are so very personable.The only problem I had at the place? It would be entirely too easy to spend a small fortune there and not even be sorry. Walking out the door with just a pair of shoes was nearly impossible. Im still dying a little on the inside. My husband was on a military climbing team and I absolutely cant wait to take him when we visit again this holiday season. See you guys soon!

I received a pair of shoes from this place for my birthday. Needless to say but they were not my style so with receipt in hand I travel all the way to Frederick. I was greeted pleasantly and made the sales associate aware of my return. She informed me that only a store credit was available. I am not local to this store nor did I like anything stocked there so I asked to just credit the gift givers card. This was not possible is what she told me as he paid cash. Cash? I asked for cash then. She became rude and said all that she could do was a store credit. As I said I did not want anything there as I am a loyal REI member. She responded that they have similar things just like REI. Well I can tell you what they do not have that REI does- good customer service. Avoid this place, its not user friendly. Over priced and rude. Bad combo.
