On the way to a hiking trip in SNP, my sister and I stopped in here for a visit. We came for hiking shoes and a propane stove. We came back a week later for the exceptional service and charming atmosphere.The gracious staff are knowledgeable and honest. They didnt try to sell me anything, but rather helped me buy what I needed.These days it is possible to purchase most things online, often for a few bucks less. But online shopping can never emulate the splendid experience of meeting such nice people, people who have a specialized knowledge base and real-world experience to help folks like me and my sis get kitted up for our outdoor adventures.The store is well laid out -- full but not cluttered, and its fun to explore every nook and cranny to find all the cool stuff theyve got in stock. Whether its a hardcore hikers idiosyncratic necessity or a casual souvenir t-shirt, they have the goods. And also a groovy fireplace.Looking forward to coming back...and looking forward to expanding my lifestyle to include the need for more of the gear they carry (camping hammock and hammock mosquito net! The owners were very nice and knowledgeable about the area. The store is stocked great. Shoes in every size. They have everything for camping to kayaking to footwear.. great for re stocking while on the Appalachian trail. They offer a military discount.

John took the time to explain tandem kayak alternatives and specifics of the kayak I ended up purchasing. Great service. Fair prices. Really nice people and Lotus, the friendly dog.

The place is incredible. I didnt end up purchasing anything but that staff were incredibly helpful and full of information. They let us chill on the lawn to plan our next move, offered us rides, and gave us a Snickers bar.....and I didnt buy a thing. That is service you wont get at a REI.

Nice selection of camping necessities. I discovered them by accident. I regularly tent camp in the national park. Now I have a source of camping gear without having to drive an hour plus to somewhere else.

I had promised the owners several weeks ago that I would post a review, my apologies for the delay!My 2 girls hiked a section of the AT in the Shenandoah and on their first night out on the trail one of their tent poles broke. My wife and I were still in the area so we picked them up and took them to River and Peak to see if we could have the pole fixed or replaced. John did his best to help but it was just not possible to fix. So he helped us pick a new tent at a great price, and it served the girls well for the rest of their adventure.John and Kristen are a great couple, very friendly and helpful, and zero pressure. The store is full of all kinds of interesting gear and supplies, I wish I could have spent more time wandering around. Excellent experience!
