Excellent facility, staff, and selection of gear. My daughter and I used this shop to get scuba certified and it has been a wonderful experience. This Team is focused on safety and education that leads to exceptional scuba diving experiences. Steven and Mary Beth were our dive instructors that took the time needed for each individual person in the class. It wasn’t a check and done, more of a this is what to do and why it’s important. We practiced until it was like second nature. When we went on our certification dive trip we were all prepared for the dive with everyone in the class able to perform all of the exercises flawlessly due to the pool training. When we were at the open water dive in Blue Grotto, I witnessed other classes that were there who had people that couldn’t set up their gear correctly, nor get in and out of the water the way the SDI certification training explained to do. I highly recommend this Team because they know what they are doing, behave professionally, and genuinely care about each and every person that attends their certification classes and dives.

My husband and I just finished the first stage of our scuba certification and we wish we could give higher than a five star rating. Stephen and Mary Beth were absolutely wonderful instructors. They were very thorough in explaining each skill and also took the time to explain why they were important to know while giving real world examples. We were able to take our time learning each skill and were able to go at our own pace. We left feeling confident in skills we had learned and are excited for the next stage. We can’t thank them enough!

After reading some of the negative reviews I think some of these people must have gone to a different shop! My wife and I moved from the mecca of Diving in Florida to the Cumming area. We looked at several dive shops and this one stood out by far. Prices are better than other local shops. The owner is very knowledgeable and has a clear passion for diving and teaching divers new skills. I would 100% trust my life in his hands! We participated in a new drive class called divers Survival and even after over 250 dives I learned more advanced skills. Thank you Steve (owner) for creating such a great shop and resource for divers. I only wish some of the other people with negative comments could understand that many other shops dont even compare.

Great experience with the open water course. Steven is a great instructor, and is a good local shop to do business with. Steven went above and beyond to make sure we understood the rules of diving, he makes sure your going to be safe, and goes out of his way to help you with any questions or concerns. He noticed we had a issue with a piece of gear, and he immediately replaced it. Well definitely continue to buy gear, and for any other diving needs from this shop.

Just finished up our open water pool sessions with Wesley at the dive shop. Wesley was super patient, answering lots of questions, explaining things and taking things slow with me since I was really nervous. I now feel confident to move on to get my open water certification! Steve and Danielle were awesome with helping us pick out the perfect equipment for us and setting everything up for our class. We are excited to keep working with The Dive shop on McEver for future dives and training!

Im sorry to do this, and this review is based on price on service alone....BUT, this place is wildly overpriced....Im literately looking at my receipt as I write this....We had a FL dive trip planned and I waited too long to do my maintenance on my gear and ONLY HAD 4 WEEKS to catch up. They Serviced my gear Mares (difficult in this area, outside ATL) and offered a quick (for this area) Hydro.$233.53$60 for Hydro and Visual and Fill$4.03 in taxes$169.5 For Regulator service?IDK here people, this gear is 20 years old. Been serviced 10 times.... I looked at my old receipts.... these guys just seem to pad the bill and have a HUGE markup.Should have waited . Ft. Lauderdale has a shop with a 72 hr turn around at $30 and $6 fills. And WAY more shops that service Mares at a cheaper price. They get the 1 star for the fact alone that they didnt kill me with the 1st and 2nd stage rebuilds....Oh and PS... for $169.50 no paperwork on the Reg service. Really?

I did it!!!!!! The owners and instructors where calm and encouraging. I bought the driver certification for my husband for fathers day and decided to do it with him. Best fathers day present I have received! This was a stretch for me as it is out of my comfort zone, but I did it. If I can, you can.The students in our class ranged from 12 years to 60 plus years.I did not feel pressured to purchase equipment from their store. We did but other students in the class did not. The owner looked at all students equipment to keep everyone safe. The owner Stephen stresses the importance of safety and being prepared. He does it in a funny, sarcastic way to keep his students calm. Before you do the open water dive, you are encouraged to practice in their pool, which I will be doing to work on my skills. That to me is worth it. So excited about the doing open water dive.

This dive shop is by far the best shop I have ever visited to get new gear. Coming from a shop up in Alaska, it was nice coming right into the culture that this shop has that is built around family. Prices are great and their classes that they offer are phenomenal. They also offer a program for the Boy Scouts!

My son took his open water course from Stephen. The class was run very well. No wasted time, and the course materials were covered in a practical, in depth manner. The dive masters that assisted with the course were also very helpful. I appreciated Stephens no-nonsense approach to instruction, and I felt that my son finished the class with the basic skills needed to begin diving safely in open water.

My son and I took the open water certification class, and from the start I was incredibly impressed with the entire staff at DSOM. Danielle was able to help me pick out quality gear at very reasonable prices (especially since there is a $100 gift card if you buy the mask, fins, snorkel & booties package) while Steve, Robert and Wesley were amazing instructors. I dealt with a bit of anxiety, and instead of pushing me to keep up with the class – like most shops would do- I was allowed to go at my own pace. I was given extra time and coaching so that I could still enjoy my experience. The instructors were able to foster a sense of community with the group, and I always felt very comfortable asking questions, and seeking additional help. When we went on our certification trip to Florida Springs, Steve made sure everything was in place and flowed smoothly. It was immediately apparent his students had far more training than the others, and were able to run through the skills without a hitch. Steve took great care in keeping an eye on all his new divers, and checked frequently with us to make sure we were comfortable. I could not have asked for a better experience.

Just got our scuba certifications with the Dive Shop on McEver and can’t say enough great things about this shop. Steve let us into a class last minute and was very accommodating. Helped talk us through mask, fin and snorkel equipment and made us feel comfortable with what we were buying. Robert Smith was our in the water instructor and I can’t say enough good things about him! Robert did a great job helping people one on one or even as a group feel comfortable under water. The next day they brought Charlie Gorrell in to help some people that needed extra work while we went right along with the class. Robert and Charlie both went on the certification dive and they did a excellent job at making it a great but serious weekend of diving. This dive shop was a great choice for myself and our friends!! We made long lasting relationships with them.

After only three days I felt like a member of the Dive Shop On McEver family. THANK YOU GUYS!!!!!.Can’t wait to go back.

This place is by far the worst customer service experience Ive had! My husband and I were coming in to do a refresher dive on our own. As we do before each dive if its been more than 6 months. Not by request of anyone, but by choice to enjoy. Something we choose to pay for, to use the pool and equipment. Once we were getting in the pool the owner showed up and stood by the pool making rude comments about our knowledge. We never claimed to be experts and thats why we were there to practice up. I thought this was supposed to be a fun experience not one that made you feel uncomfortable, doubtful. I will never be back to this dive shop nor will I ever recommend it. As a business owner myself, I am appalled that someone that owns a business like this would run it so unprofessionally. There really are not enough negative words to describe it. Just dont bother going here. Horrible!!!

I attended an introductory course and utilized this shop to complete my open water certification. In response to another reviewer: the owner does try to sell you quality equipment but their prices are not inflated in comparison to other shops and I was happy to have the access to expert knowledge and quality goods considering your life depends on it. SCUBA diving is not cheap. And I will agree he does come off as very self-assured but he also knows what he is talking about and he is extremely friendly and competent. You do not want to be 100 feet down with malfunctioning equipment. They also rent equipment there. Our instructor Buck was amazing. He has over 6000 dives (the owner Steve has thousands as well) and is a rescue diver and world record holder. I would trust him with my life--and I suppose I did. I felt incredibly well trained--we went far beyond what other classes do and I know this because I saw it first hand during my open water certification and I talked with my friends that went through training. I drove an hour to get to this place--other people fly across country. I am an anxious person but by the time I received my certification I was so calm. The facilities are very nice. They even let me come back after my class for a little refresher before the certification trip at no charge. The level that they dive at and their combined knowledge is highly impressive and I offer my highest recommendation. P.S. I think it is a shame people skew ratings with one star when they did not have a one star experience. Check the reviews on Kudzu and Citysearch and you will see how great this place is.

I have found the staff, and specifically the owner, to be very dishonest. His attitude is unprofessional and he lies to customers, myself included. I would not recommend anyone using this dive shop. Its better to drive a much farther distance and deal with honest, fair professionals. DONT spend your time or money here!

Thought that I was always given the run-a-round. Had to make several trips to the dive shop before the owner could take 10 minutes of his time to get me a referral. Took me several wasted trips before I could get my Dive Cards. Seems like he found a lot of excuses. Multiple phone calls unanswered. These calls were placed serveral days apart for about 3 weeks. I was told the answer machine was broke. How many businesses would leave their answer machine broke for 3 weeks. Decided I didnt want to do business with them anymore and told them Id like to cancel my daughter aqua camp and was told if someone else calls in and wanted to join the class then I could get a refund and my daughter wouldnt have to go. Now that the camp is over it has been brought to my attention that a class of 8 was really a class of 11. Just venting and tired of the misinformation and disappointments. I would never recommend that anyone deal with this shop. If you have to go out of your way to go somewhere else, its highly recommended.

Horrible place to do business. I heard the owner making fun of students in his class after they left in (front of customers.) I also heard him lie to a customer when he was trying to sell him something. The staff is rude and the owner stands around bragging about himself. Take your business to the competition. Dont waste your time here. I wish I could give him a negative star.

Review №33

I will never do business with this place ever again. The owner/ trainer Stephen is a haughty, kantakerous condescending individual. He is clueless as to the definition of costumer service. I was expecting to pay a higher price for the equipment since thats how businesses make their money, which is fine, but I wasnt expecting to get yelled at, criticized or belittled especially when youre paying to get taught an activity that should be fun and enjoyable. The guy hates teaching students and he doesnt even hide it. The only reason I went through the class was because there were other extraordinary circumstances or else I would have never allowed anyone to talk to me in the manner he did. Bottom line this guy needs a lesson in costumer service and humility. Until he learns that, I would never recommend this place. Buy your equipment online and go with someone who is not miserable all the time, and actually enjoys teaching.

You just can’t go wrong with the DSOM. With instructors like Steve and Buck you will be sure to get the most out of your dive instruction. Buck is an instructor with more years of experience than many of his students have years in this earth. Steve, while not being quiet as experienced, demonstrates an aptitude for instructing and leading his students. My wife experienced difficulties with her ears during training, these guys got her through it and helped her to become comfortable at depth. We both finished our Open Water Diver course feeling confident in the skills we had learned to continue diving abroad.Great gear and service there too.

Just finished my open water dive course, awaiting my checkout dive. I have to say my class was a lot of fun, the pace and style of teaching made it so much fun. My wife was certified 7 years ago and took the class with me as a refresher and couldnt stop talking about how much better this class was compared to her original. The dive masters that helped were also very good and passionate at what they do. I interviewed 3 other shops for class and each one failed (in many ways) but this shop won because Stephen offered not only my cert (padi) but sdi, tdi, and ssi, take your pick. He gave honest reviews on gear (I fact checked him on google) I couldnt recommend this shop more.
