Stopped in the other day and learned the store is under new ownership. The gentleman that helped us was very knowledgeable and polite. Will definately be backe for more metal!🤘
Friendly and helpful owner. Can email or call in a cut list and they called me when it was ready. One piece was 1/8 longer than the others but I touched it up.Good prices and good selection of cold rolled steel bar stock, angle iron, and flat stock.
Great customer service and had just what i needed.👍
Awesome customer service, super friendly. I usually buy small pieces/parts for miscellaneous stuff and I havent had any issues with whatever Im looking for.
Tom Sullivan? I believe was the owners name. I had an issue with customer service. Asked to speak to the manager, well Tom answered, and I do believe I found who trains them. Tom was quite rude, didn’t listen, didn’t care. Maybe it was because I wasn’t spending big $, or a local, or maybe a regular, either way, I won’t recommend them! If I could give 0 stars I would!
We have been buying metal here for years. Great selection! We have always been able to get everything we need here (and our needs definitely vary!). Staff is knowledgeable and friendly. They cut to length needed which is super helpful. Recommend you try them for your metal needs.
Searched all over town at the “big” named metal shops and was told to pound sand by all of them. Just needed a couple pieces of 6061 bar stock. Went in to Gem State Metals half expecting the same response. Nope, told him what I needed and he’s said we can do both of those. No problems at all and no $43 cut charge like the other guys. They’ve earned a customer for life!
These gentlemen are just the best! I work at a local service center down the street and they always have what we need and are so knowledgeable, kind and courteous! I will never hesitate to send my customers and friends to Gem State Metals. Whether it is business or a personal project, they never disappoint me and it is always a delight dealing with all the employees!
Disappointed.. I purchase about $30 - $40 of iron every two or three months.I know they are not the most economical in town, but they are relatively close to my work.First let me say that I try to use remnants, as I assume that is in their best interest.I realize the cost between remnants and new stock is the same, but if I were running the business I would appreciate remnants being used when possible.I needed to fabricate a standalone tool stand for my wood lathe.I indicated I needed a base of about 18” square on which to weld a post.I indicated I was after the most economical and didn’t mind welding flat stock together to make the base. They selected a 12” wide and 8” wide remnant and I indicated the larger size would be fine. What a big mistake, because the 12” wide came at a premium.I would have been much better off just going with new 6” stock.I asked that they adjust the invoice and they wouldn’t.
Ive recently added steel and other metals to my home projects, and Gem State was recommended by my welding instructor. As a beginning metal worker, the staff at Gem State Metals has very helpful, and very patient with my questions (most of which are common knowledge to anyone with experience). Its just an added bonus that their pricing is far cheaper than than buying it at a big box store.
Drove all the way from Nampa with my piece after being told over the holidays they could do the job. After this long drive was instantly told they wouldnt or couldnt do it. Would have been helpful to know this beforehand. Complete waste of time.Too bad for them as this could have blossomed into a contract for 1000 units.
Jason there was super helpful despite my small quantity of metal I needed. Price was reasonable too. Much cheaper than a chain store. FYI its in the back of the parking lot that Google takes you too
Quality company. Been here many times and have not been disappointed. Large selection and great pricing. Will be back for much more metal! 👍🏼
I have been going to Gem State Metals for years. I have bought everything from basic mild steel to hardox wear plate. They always have the best prices and I think the service is great. It doesn’t matter if I am buying $100s worth of material or just a few dollars, they always treat me well. I couldn’t imagine going anywhere else.
Just got back from first time visit, owner Tom was a class act. Impressed with their customer service, selection and prices. Will be back, probably often.
The president of the company, Tom Sullivan, when called and asked for a quote after a couple back and forth emails very rudely told me I cant get a quote and hung up on me. Not a good way to do business especially after using great customer service as a selling point on his website!
My First visit today....needed a couple of 1-1/2 angle iron cut to 17-3/4 to reinforce the base of my roll away tool cabinet (which is sagging due to inadequate support from factory). The guys showed me the material, and cut the pieces to my specs. Only took a min, and zero fuss. Compared to the sheet metal angle that was available at the Box Store, which was 5 times more in price, much weaker for my application, plus I would have needed to cut them myself, it was well worth the effort to find Gem State Metals......it saved me some cash, time and effort, plus I got the correct material.
I have been purchasing from them for a year now, I have been extremely happy with their service and products.I have found them to be knowledgeable and friendly.
Ive been using this guys for almost five years now, and I havent found anyone in the Boise Meridian area that can compare. If youre looking for a small shop that you can walk in an out with some raw material in less than 15 minutes, then this is the place for you. Staff is super friendly and helpful, as a novice metalworker I dont feel intimidated walking in either. Most of the time I just walk in and buy a handful of 10ft length of tubing and random pieces, but I did once special order a 1/4th in plate for a welding table. They had the piece cut in a day at a reasonable price, I now use that table I made to work on all my DIY projects.I really wish they were open for a few hours on the weekend. Theyre just the right type of business for DIY people like me, and being able to pop in on the weekend when were not working would be great.NEVER BUY METAL FROM A BIG NAME STORE, youll pay around 5-10x as much buying a piece of angle bar from Home Depot as you would here. You also get friendly professional advice and cut to length options.
Really good guys over here honest and helpful
Poor customer service.
