A 1-year review of my 2012 Subaru forester purchased fall 2020. I purchased this car knowing it may need a clutch replaced. The vehicle was listed around $2500 under book value due to this issue. During my test drive, there was a loud popping sound(sounded like cc axles). My salesman quickly told me that that was the all-wheel-drive kicking in and its a good thing. Knowing that there was a mechanical flaw but still appreciated the good price of the vehicle, I ignored the blatant lie and as you can tell already, purchased the vehicle. On the way home the battery light illuminated. After testing the voltage, with the engine running, I determined a new alternator was needed. I replaced the alternator. The loud popping was not the cc axles as expected. It turned out to be the center differential. 1 $500 genuine Subaru center differential and $200 worth of trans axle fluid, rear diff fluid, and rtv, and no more clunking. The entire time, the car has been using about a quart of oil per fill-up. Leaking profusely from somewhere on top of the engine and inhaling the great from the PCV valve to the intake manifold. After a few months of that, the engine exploded. A replacement engine with 120, xxx miles and no warranty was around $3500... Yeah, $3500 for just the engine. No fluids, accessories, installation, warranty, included. So I scooped up an engine with lower miles from a 2014 outback and swapped over the necessary components to make it work($1700). At that time I replaced the clutch, pressure plate, and throw-out bearing for good measure. (An additional $250) The starter went out along with the battery. Red top AGM and lifetime warranty on the starter replacement cost $350. The battery light still comes on randomly while driving. The lights flicker as well. The cc axles are starting to go out.DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND BUY SOMETHING WITH LOW MILES FROM SOMEWHERE ELSE. Dont suffer as I have. With patience and a lot of digging, you can find a great vehicle. I ignored some seemingly minor issues since this vehicle was bought as a secondary vehicle that would be more comfortable on long highway drives. Learn from my mistake and dont settle for a higher mileage pos from this place. I thought I was getting a good deal at first, but I could have bought a better vehicle with the money I spent on maintenance alone, and I did all of the repairs myself. Imagine what a shop would charge to install all of the parts and components listed.2 stars because they were friendly and the price was low enough to lure a sucker like me in.
