Love to visit every time we are in NC. They have so many unique gifts and high end kitchen doo dads. The beer and wine selection are vast. Coffee offerings are immense. They can show you 50 ways to prepare coffee or tea. It’s impressive. More jelly beans than you can imagine. The cheese and deli selection are also top notch. Just a unique store.

I could come back to this store 10 times and probably still not see everything. They have such a neat variety of items! There was a deli area with ready to eat salads and gourmet deli meats, a kitchen supply area with things that even as an avid cook Id never seen before, an extensive looking wine selection, gourmet loose teas and coffee sold by the pound, lots of interesting gourmet pantry staples, an area full of neat cards and unique gift/home items (I bought some beautiful taper candles for Easter), and a candy shop area that Willy Wonka would by proud of.I gave them 4 stars because everything was definitely on the expensive side, but I would highly recommend checking this place out and have already been back twice myself.

I love this store and the amazing selection, so was a little saddened to walk in and find so many empty shelves. I know theyve had some problems and had to close down other stores in order to save their flagship, but they need to be careful not to let this one go so far down that people start looking elsewhere. That said, I still found the non-standard things I cant find easily elsewhere: snails, snail baking dishes, German salad dressing, cool cookie cutters and duck confit, plus an amazing selection of cheeses.

This is my third review of the Southern Season store at University Plaza. My first visit was amazing. My second visit was a disaster. This third visit, today was quite refreshing. To be a good and effective waiter(server), there are certain tools that you must have on your person to do an impressive job. Tonight while searching for some of those tools, a wonderful woman with a million dollar smile approached me with a waiters key in her hand. If you dont know what it is; dont stress your brain. She ask if she could be of any help. I ask her about a crumber; again, dont stress your brain. She thought about it, we talked it....then she took me right to the display. I bring all this up to prove a point. I stopped going to Southern Seasons for months because of a number of bad experiences I had with employees at the store. They did not know the merchandise, unable to make logical decisions, and showed no interest in trying to project even an essence of pride in what they were doing, or the store in which they stood. The worst of it, I had brought a relative along to show them the great new place I had found. She has never been back, and until tonight; neither had I. The staff member, a wonderful, seasoned and knowledgeable woman, whos name I did not get: will be the reason for my return to Southern Seasons.

I have never seen a Southern Season before. So I decided to browse through this store. They have a variety of items in this store from all types of kitchen needs, outdoor grills (they have the green egg in several sizes with all accessories you may need), they have Yeti coolers and Yeti accessories to meet your needs. There is a deli inside that you can get many meats and cheeses. You need to check this store out because they have too many products to name. The store is very organized. The staff are very friendly and asked if you need help locating anything. Definitely a must see for any shopper in the Chapel Hill and Durham area.

Terrible customer care.I ordered a gift basked online on December 9. 5 business days later, I had not yet received the promised email when the order was shipped. I called 20 times on Dec 13 before getting through on their awful phone system. Finally got through to a person. I was told that I should get the email the next day (sure I will). Of course, I didnt get the email. Now its Dec 16. Ive called at least 30 times so far today. I keep getting a recording saying to stay on the line. Then the phone rings again and Im either dumped into a silent area that never answers or the call hangs up.This is the worst phone answering system Ive encountered in a very long time.At this point, Im so frustrated that I want to cancel the order and get a full refund. I know its the holidays and they are busy. I wouldnt mind waiting on hold for a long time, but they keep hanging up or losing me in their system where I wait for a long time with no sound, no recordings and finally I have to hang up to try again. Maybe theyve already done all the business they want to do this year.Ill never order from here again.

Lost the Mojo here in Chapel Hill. The store has announced the closing next year. The shelves are selectively empty at this point, except for the wine or knife departments...anything that caters to the holiday traffic. Good riddance to this place! When Calvert retail purchased it, I was shocked that someone would make such a bad business decision. I knew it would ultimately fail and it finally has. For all of the people that Southern Season took advantage of; employees that it hired and fired like they were disposable, vendors it didn’t pay and customers who were duped into paying top tier prices for stale products....this is the day of reckoning. Coffee is Terrible. For years, I was always excited to buy Southern Season coffees for gifts for my extended family. There are many types from all over the world. They are pricey and I assumed they were very good. I found out recently that my family discussed it and collectively requested that I discontinue this unique gift as they all agree their coffees are worse than Folgers. I feel embarrassed as this has been my go-to gift to ship to many people in different states for years. So if you are looking to spend $12-20 on a pound of coffee, you may want to try before you buy, which I did not.... Also, Southern Season loves to try to sell their damn nasty cheese twists. Anyone who ever eats a container of these never eats them again. Why do they think its such a unique southern gift when no one in the world has ever eaten more than one package of this super salty greasy garbage?
