My wife and I searched to find the best coffee shop in the Grand Rapids area, and I think we found it(prove me wrong). Loved the atmosphere of the shop, the varietals of coffee and the seasonal drinks. Came back for more a couple days later, had a couple of drips, a seasonal and a cappuccino. Enjoyed the coffee very much!
Stopped my Madcap during the ArtWalk (for which its location is absolutely perfect for people-watching). Wed been tooling around for a couple of hours and all in our party agreed that a corner spot with outdoor seating was just the break we needed. The caffé latte was just perfect - the sweet spot between weak and bitter - and especially appreciated by the elderly imbiber. We shared two pour-overs: the local area code-inspired Six One Six and the Santa Lucia (described as a brighter varietal). Both were delightfully drinkable; robust and full-bodied without any hint of bitter, heavy-handed roasting. A win black and with a touch of cream. Our fourth, appreciated the large plastic cups for the filtered water. So thank you for that as well, Madcap. It was a very worthwhile fly-by, to be repeated.
Came into Michigan for a wedding about a half hour south of here. Heard about the place as “the best quality coffee in Grand Rapids”. I said, “listen, you know I’m a guy who can enjoy a nice espresso in Italy or a meticulously comprised flat white in Australia...or literally a finely stirred cup of instant coffee in my tiny apartment in Colorado. I have learned to appreciate any coffee anywhere. But I’m game for a good cup!” And wouldn’t you know it, Madcap delivered no the good cup! I tried to stop here on my first day in town and had no mask because I lost my coat with the mask in the pocket and had to leave and come back the next day. Ha, long story. But when I came back to buy a bag of beans as a gift for a friend, I smelled the coffee, ordered a nice cup for myself and got so lost in my cup that I forgot why I had originally come and had to come back later for the bag of beans. Haha. This place! My initial impressions:Well crafted coffee. Great attention to detail. Had a double americano. Flavors were very robust. Surprised at the depth of flavors! Would come back in a heartbeat if I lived nearby.
This is our go to place for coffee when in Grand Rapids. They have a great vibe and the music was bumping. I really enjoyed pulling up here on the daily.
Coffee’s good, service was neither above or beyond. Asked for one of the clear Togo cups, barista didn’t hear me and I got stiff service for clarifying. Maybe it’s just that certain folks at certain intersections don’t like me? It’s mutual.
Good coffee but once I got to the middle of my coffee is was all milk. Just wasnt made right. But still good
Coffee prices are outrageous. Bought an almost $6 mocha and was served a very small cup of coffee not much bigger than an espresso. Good flavor but waaay too small.
This local coffee brewery was suggested to by a local friends and its really good to visit such local coffee house instead of our regular ones. We ordered through the app and it was quite hassle free process. The price to quantity ratio is a bit less but the taste makes up the to the mark. I ordered a mocha and hot chocolate and it was smoothing. The hot chocolate was really comforting in chilling morning and made my dayThankyou management for making sure everyone wears a mask!.
Ive enjoyed buying whole beans for take home. Excellent roaster here in GR.
One of our goals while traveling is to find the best coffee shop. In our opinion this is the best one in Grand Rapids. The building had a great feel and great coffee. We will be back!
Great coffee place. Pour over and espresso drinks, tea, other drinks. The latte was amazing.
Cozy atmosphere and great coffee thats now available in meijer if you cant make it downtown
Very nice baristas and a comfy place to relax, study or read while enjoying coffee
Nice sitting peacefully outside on a small table and chair sipping coffee along with a nice glass of water.
Tasty espresso. Worth the money spent!
Delicious coffee. Quick and friendly service.
Nice atmosphere but the coffee just didnt taste great. Maybe I was there on a bad day.
The 616 is a great dark roast! Stop here for your coffee needs!
Good drinks, fast service. My daughter loved the atmosphere.
Excellent place to experience top flight coffee. One of the best roasters in the country. The staff prepares every drink with the care you would expect from a $5 cup of coffee. The shop is always stocked with bags of fresh roasted delicious coffee.I highly recommend trying one of the tasting flights. That way you can experience the different notes that are brought out of each carefully selected coffee. It is a bit loud so not a great place to carry on a conversation. And the ordering process can be a bit intimidating for the uninformed. All in all, MadCap is a flagship third wave roaster that will not disappoint any coffee lover. I highly recommend stopping by.
Best coffee in west michigan! In house roasting.
Wonderful coffee shop...local first!
Great coffee and I love the spot.
Seriously one of the best lattes Ive ever had.
Well crafted and prepared coffee drinks.
I love this place they have amazing drinks and the staff is also so nice. Their iced chai latte is really good
The cafe where I fell in love with coffee as a culinary art. For the last 10 years, Madcap Coffee has been on the cutting edge of the specialty coffee not only in Grand Rapids, but in the community worldwide. Always seeking new heights of excellence in product, service, and environment, Madcap Coffee is a must for any coffee lover.
Just grabbed an amazing bag of coffee ground perfectly for my press. Thanks guys!!
Good coffe, even better staff
Super cool coffee shop with a great selection of tasty coffee.
Great place to meet up for coffee.
Got to visit this Madcap coffee location and I have to say that I really enjoyed the experience. The coffee shop was really well laid out and had plenty of seating, and the staff were super friendly and knowledgeable. The coffee tasted amazing as well! All in all a fantastic experience and I would definitely go back again.
Their coffee is very special and different
There are no flavor options, and the coffee is decent but overpriced for what you get. A plain cup of coffee ranges from $3.50 to $6.50. There are also VERY limited options to add to the coffee. All they had for sweetener is simple syrup, nothing carb free, so if youre on keto or diabetic, there are no options. Also, no cinnamon, cocoa powder, or anything of that sort. The only creamer they have is whole milk, no cream or half and half.
Love Madcap. In from California and had to get some beans to take back.
Very pleasant atmosphere
Great coffee...but with a touch of tude
I enjoy lattes. This latte was not the best. Unrefined, the espresso tasted bitter and watered down even set with whole milk and vanilla syrup. Every sip ended with my mouth feeling chalky and like I needed a chaser. I like the atmosphere, and their just responsible action to their employees by only allowing 1 customer in at a time (which counts for the second star) but I will definitely not be visiting again.
As soon as the masked man saw me and my boys, he brought the trash in and locked the door. The very same door that said Monday-Friday 7am-7pm. It was in fact 3pm Friday, April 9th. Outrageous and unheard of. Trash establishment.
Great coffee with TLC. My husband had an Iced Mocha that was not only sweet and delicious, but a high dose of caffeine. I had an Iced Dirty Chai Latte that was fantastic and energizing! Both our drinks were super yummy, brought us back to life, and made us jealous that we dont have one in our city. Good service, prices worth the quality. Its not somewhere I would chill at due to lack of/uncomfortable seating. Beware of hipsters ✌
Pretty good coffee, great looking place. The roaster caught fire one time we were thereA little acidic though.
So disappointed...last year, Mad Cap offered this amazing flight of coffee (whatever was brewing that day) plus their in house made coconut milk. This year, thanks to the current environment, you can only order online then pick up. Nothing fresh brewed or even some of the better coffee (like Finca De Dios). So sad 🥺
Madcap has been around for a while and sometimes when that happens things get old feeling but not this place! They seem to always be getting better from their offerings to their service. Are definitely passionate about coffee and preparing at exactly the right way. and because of this their coffee is absolutely outstanding. If you are a coffee lover this is the place for you. Their cold Brews are the best in town. In the summer they have outdoor sitting right on the sidewalk. Great place!
Great services and atmosphere!
I’m from Missouri so I’ve only been able to go here once, but I’ve bought beans from them for over a year and they’re always top-notch quality. The shop is a fun atmosphere and the staff were all super helpful and friendly. Will definitely try to make it back the next time I’m in Grand Rapids :)
Was very good. But the it was expensive for the little bit you get
Very stylish coffee joint. Beautiful aesthetics, wonderful atmosphere. They have fast efficient service, yet they take pride in high quality coffee.
Great spot! They have an awesome iced & cafe mocha! Right in the center of downtown Grand Rapids, prime location! Service is always great, and the quality of their coffee is incredible!
Ive been here several times and I always have a great experience. One time I ran into my old friend Ginger while I was drinking a hot tea. Another time I visited with Adam Bird of The People Picture Company. But for the most part, Im just lonely.
Really great coffee & hot chocolate. A small variety of pastries. I love the feel of the place, and its usually very quiet -- good to bring a book or a friend. My favorite place in the Inner Sunset.
