Maybe new management causing changes. I used to come here for breakfast and really enjoyed each visit. The menu was better than the average diner, and though pricey, the quality of the food, service and ambiance made it worth it. A few months ago I started coming for late night dinners. There is always a very long wait probably because it’s the only place open at that time, but I noticed a huge difference at night. Service slow and food not that good. Last night I had my worst experience that will cause me to never return. I was told that the kitchen was short staffed but that does not equate to burnt meatloaf that my companion received, no gravy, no butter for baked potato or sour cream. We had to ask for those items but by the time they arrived the food was cold. The pork chops I ordered were so salty I couldn’t eat it. I got sweet potato fries instead of sweet potatoes, but when it was corrected, the sweet potato was cold and mostly dark brown with a weird taste. I ate my steamed broccoli, small amount to sweet potato, did not eat the 2 pork chops even when they were replaced. We paid the bill and left the food. For the very first time I did not leave a tip. I’m still waiting for napkins as requested. It’s disappointed but I won’t return, not even for breakfast.
Chit Chat is a nice restaurant thats a bit more on the pricier side. However, the food is absolutely delicious with good presentation. Well worth the price. They have cards at the table with questions to keep everyone in conversation. the service was little slow May be bcz it was super busy but staff was friendly, and the food was really good. Loved this place and would recommend.
I really like this diner! Food was great, the environment is pretty cool, staff is friendly, one of the staff noticed that I was watching a football ⚽ game on my phone and immediately put it on the tv, loved the attention. Had a blast that Sunday morning, it was pretty obvious that they were short staffed but still, great service. Will definitely see me again and again and again!! 💯🙌🏼
I have used this diner a lot recently because Im re-doing my kitchen. If there was another option as convenient (i.e. another local diner that delivered) I would order from them, but there isnt, so I am stuck with this place for now.The food tastes ok; nothing spectacular. The cheese fries are somehow always burnt and if you order steak fries, they will give you 1/2 a potato and charge you $8 for it (see attached picture). Definitely not worth the money, and once my kitchen is finished I wont be going back there.
HiIm currently sitting in the chit chat dinner. While quite frankly the food here is good most of the time. The service here is horrible. Unfriendly staff, coupled by exceptionally long wait times, and waiters who mess up your orders and dont even ask if you would like a drink. During the visit I am currently in, I had to wait 45 min to get a table. Im currently being served by someone who has messed up my parties drink order, has mumbled comments under his breath and has served drinks we did not order... three times. Then after what felt like 2 business days, our food arrived. There were several things wrong with our meals. Including finding remnants of a western omelet in my frech toast syrup. Plus the syrup was watered down. It bounced off the bread. The French fries were barely cooked, the French toast bread was stale, and one of our quesadillas had meat so RAW it airs on Monday Nights. We were not offered desert or coffee, our food was taken before being asked, and our server keeps mumbling remarks under his mask.I will never dine here again.
As diners go its definitely a good one. Typical endless selection of foods with lunch combos breakfast combos etc. Service is always above average and very professional. I love that workers do not have their phones out all the time, in fact I think they have to put them away before they start their shift! Very refreshing, being a restaurant manager myself I know how detrimental that is to service. Great job guys!
I used to order from here years ago because I worked in the area and it was nothing short of outstanding. recently moved back and have eaten here twice, delivery one of those times and highly dissatisfied and disappointed in the quality and service here now. definitely different management and staff and given every restaurant has gone through changes but this is a shame to see and experience. I had a salad and it took 2 hours to get to me (I live down the block) and my order was incorrect the last time I sat down there. get it together.
Chit chat diner is one of the best diners you should eat at if you’re in a diner mood. Also opens late if you want a comfortable place to sit and work/study
My first time going there went there because my co-worker and friend invited me to go out to catch up and it was my husband birthday too so it work out good loved the inside settings and the designed food was great enjoyed every moment of it I will return and Im not of a eat out person love love it.
Its a struggle deciding what diner youll eat at in this part of Jersey, there are so many options which is always a good thing. We went to Chit Chat and were very impressed with the service, the food, the atmosphere, but damn that food was something special. The big fat chocolate cake delivers everything it promises to be, the burgers were phenomenal and the coffee kept on flowing. Definitely worth your time, cant wait to go back!
This Diner never fail to surprise me! The quality of food and it’s just very spot on with price and flavor, texture. Tonight I had their Fish & Chips just like being in UK the fish wasn’t greasy chips are good paired with authentic tartar sauce and malt vinegar. This is definitely a 5 start diner. The service is impeccable the owners GUS & LOLA are so pleasant and very accommodating, they care about the customers, our server Kevin and Lissy always deliver a world class service and dining experience. It is worth every single penny. The New York Skyline is just the icing on the cake
Chit chat is a cut above the normal dive diner crowd. The food is solid, with the specials being particularly good. The menu is wide ranging - with Jamaican jerk wraps, lomo saltado, and pork chops sharing the spotlight on the menu - and of course you can get breakfast all day!
This is, by far, one of THE best diners in NJ we have been to in our many years of NJ dining. The food is amazing. Huge portions. Every bite, ABSOLUTELY delicious. Everything homemade. Spotless faculties, with absolutely beautiful, friendly staff. This will be a stop EVERY time we are in NJ from here on out. EVERYONE should come experience it for themselves. You will NOT be disappointed.
I used to go there very often because it was convenient and the food was really good. Few days ago I went for breakfast with my mother, we got the food and I had to ask few people for napkins, for coffee while my server was talking to the cashier unbothered and never came back. When one of her coworkers tried to tell her, she gave them an attitude and when she was done came to the table with a smile as it mattered anything at that point. We got up to pay and the cashier girl with the fake lips didn’t even bother to ask anything even though she witnessed it all, she just grabbed the card. We paid and left disappointed, they have no idea what customer service is and I’m never going back!
Dined in for breakfast/lunch with my mother on a early Sunday afternoon. There was a 20 minute wait but we sat at the counter to skip the wait. Counter was fairly clean. The diner was very packed. Food was good. Our waitress Ashleigh was pleasantly kind and graceful. Food was good. My mother ordered a western omelette with a side of sausage links. The sausage links were pretty big. Most places you give you teeny tiny ones. Only thing I would complain about is the volume of the music in the ladies room. Its pretty loud and sounds like your at a lounge or bar. Also, wouldnt recommend this place if you enjoy a more quiet atmosphere.
Have to try it again, the food was good just they were really cheap with the French toast.
Had came here with my friend to get some nice burgers. Instead what we came to was an insect exhibit with an ant colony reproducing quickly on the cracks of the wall right next to our booth. Even finding two right near me. Within a minute of sitting there we had gotten up and left. Poorly cleansed & did not enjoy the minute long experience.
Santiago was my waiter he was super nice and made sure everything was good.
The traditional toasted wrap with rice and beans was awesome. It came with a fresh salad served in a cute cup. The bread served before the meal was very tasty. It was a flavored bread served between 5 and 8 PM. Awesome experience.
Ate here today for the first time in years. Got there before 7am and it was almost empty which isnt surprising for a Sunday morning. I ordered the pancake special. It took almost twenty minutes for my food to arrive and it wasnt good when it did. The pancakes were overcooked. One side of each pancake was dark and they were chewy and dry even with butter and syrup. The scrambled eggs were also overcooked and dry. The bacon, sausage and ham were ok but warm, not hot. I would have sent it back if I wasnt in a hurry. The only thing that came out good was the side of corned beef hash. I dont know what goes on in that kitchen but if you cant manage decent scrambled eggs when the diner is empty, Id hate to try the food when they are busy. The other staff were on top of things. I heard the waitress asking why my order wasnt ready yet.
Cozy, beautiful dinner.clean, friendly wait service .hostesses not so much 😕Food excellent.dessert case good.clean bathrooms.reasonable prices.parking lot structure. Noticeable from Essex st. Liquor bar inside. Must definitely try. I dont mind driving 35 mins again for the food
Visiting NJ from another state.I enjoyed the food, the service was great. All employees had clean uniforms and looked very professional. The servers were kind and attentive. I will be back to Chit Chat Diner.
Attention to detail is missing I have over 15 years experience in fine dinning and food and beverage industry in 5 star hotels this place has good food, service need to have more practice and know when to work tables and need to follow up with your table, u go along was with making sure u fill water glasses up ...
Quality of the food and presentation was way above other diners in the area. The service was excellent.
The Eggs Benedict was revolting, I felt sick after my meal. Service was great otherwise.
Food is amazing, the menu has a nice variety of diner food. The brownie sundae is the best in town!
This place is dirty and the service is slow. Our table was covered in salt when we got sat, I cleaned it myself. I saw the gentleman “cleaning” the tables and then understood why our table was dirty. Our server immediately took our drink and our food order because we had enough time to read the entire menu before he came over to take our order. He brought the drinks right out and left the table. My drink had floaties in it and it sat in front of me for 20 minutes until the server came back to the table next to us and we grabbed his attention and asked for new drinks. He then came to the table next to us TWO MORE TIMES before I had to ask for the remake of my drink AGAIN. At this point we’ve spent 45 minutes here and I haven’t even had a drink. We left $10 on the table for the two sodas (even though I didn’t get to drink mine) and we left without getting to eat any of the food. Another table to our left that was already there when we got there, asked where their food was and the table to our right got their bill discounted because their food took so long. No other servers tables seemed to be having issues. I’m even more annoyed that we drove around NJ for an hour and a half looking for a good diner and this place was literally the only one open ..unfortunately.
Food was great but the service was average. Wait time was less than 30 mins on a Saturday morning. It was busy so we were patient but our server never came to check on us. We never got refills on our coffee and they never brought us toast and hashbrown they had forgotten.
As we walked in it took approximately 10 min to be seated and no one was on line with us. After that disaster of a wait we finally got seated and were rushed on the spot to order. When we put our orders in, it took too long for 3 waters and 48 min for chicken tenders, mozzarella sticks and fries (all appetizers). We only got the fries and when we reminded the waiter of the other food he became very rude and stormed away. Our server or any server for that matter were inattentive. After all that we finally got the food at it was cold and messy. Overall 2/10 because at least we got our food.
Open 24 hours. Just Ask for a lemonade with extra lemons. Totally worth it. Best tator tots. Friendly staff!! The bathroom is a decent size. 2 stalls. If you use a wheelchair its best to have someone help you with the doors they are really heavy.
Good food at a decent price. Interesting menu options you dont see at a typical diner. Close to the Hackensack Medical center
This diner has a tremendous variety of food to choose from, when I have a diverse group of people I like to chose this spot because there will be something on the menu for everyone. Its a little on the pricy side but can be worth it if you cant make up your mind where to go to eat.
This quaint New Jersey Diner has a lot of personality and a gigantic menu to match. We both ordered wraps which were very delicious. They have conversation cards if playing Candy Crush Friends gets boring. The only thing I would change is, the server told me that there’s no free refills on fountain soda. However, he didn’t charge me for my refill. We came during a busy lunchtime service and did not feel that getting our food took extra long.
Food was good, but we waited forever for them to check up on us. Our server just kept chatting with his co-workers and did even look our way.
Went here with my family for a late night brunch. Service was what is to be expected of a late night dinner. Went woth the burger and fries, WHICH HIT DA SPOT¡ TOP OT OFF.....they offer a full bar until last call, which added to the memories. GREAT PLACE TO GO WITH FAMILY¡ GOOD ATMOSPHERE¡ GOOD FOOD/DRINKS...
Nice service. Food was excellent .got the shrimp and cheddar grits...nice portion and full of flavor, hubby got the 3 baked egg breakfast platter and it was also excellent. Will be back for sure!
I confess I am addicted to the Carrot Delight waffle. It gets very busy there primarily in the morning but the wait for a seat isnt very long at all. I particularly love Joe, the waitress, she is so incredible. I am a repeat customer.
Great diner. They serve some traditional diner food and also have some unique dishes too.Service was great.Atmosphere is nice.Food is good. The Goud Stuff Omelette is a great selection for a healthier breakfast choice. The El Camino is delicious and could serve 2.Do recommend highly for breakfast.
Chit Chat is a nice restaurant thats a bit more on the pricier side. However, the food is absolutely delicious with good presentation. Well worth the price. They have cards at the table with questions to keep everyone in conversation. Overall, the service was quick, staff was friendly, and the food was really good. Loved this place and would recommend.
Great service. Food is good service also good. Just the structure and decor needs updating a bit.
I want to make this clear the only reason Im giving this one star is not because of the food. Its because it takes 20 minutes for them to take your order and if you complain to the manager he gets really snippy with you. I understand that you might be short staffed and it was busy but at least have some courtesy when speaking to a customer.
Atmosphere if so pretty, food was great and our server was very nice. Highly recomend!
Bad management, rude people they get overwhelmed with short staff. Even when you understand. I used to come but who ever is running overnights makes unpleasant to come. Even the food is bad not the same anymore.
Great food options but the sell a small Minute Maid orange juice glass for almost $6 and claim that is a large freshly squeezed orange juice. What a rip off!!
Great menu with favorites and new food combos that will soon be new favorites.Come through, you wont be disappointed
This place is so good, good service. Food takes not a long time to come to your table, well it depends on what you get. The silver dollar pancakes with chocolate chips in it is great!!
We went early so we were seating immediately. The food came out faster than we had thought and our waitress was very sweet.
I went here on a Tuesday evening for dinner. The place was busy, but there were tables available so we were seated right away. The waitress greeted us promptly with some warm olive bread and oil (it was delicious). We all ordered the gyro wrap, which came with fries and a Greek salad. We waited about 15 minutes for our orders to arrive, but we were able to have more olive bread and oil while we waited. The entrees were quite large and there was plenty of Tzatziki sauce to go with the wrap. We all ordered the rice pudding for dessert (although had I known the size of it I would have suggested sharing). Mine was too much to finish and we all ended up taking the rest home for later. I would have rated my visit a 5 had we not been seated next to an outside door, which was opened a couple times allowing very cold air in on us while we were eating. I would gladly return here in the future, although its a little pricey for a diner, but perhaps worth it. Also, the waitress was very friendly and efficient.
Excellent service and delicious food. Ive been here a few times and it is always a pleasure
Was here for breakfast on a date day and its the perfect place to get your day started. Everything was cooked perfectly as we wanted and the pancakes were fluffy. The portions are reasonable and the coffee has free refills which is definitely a plus! All in all, everything tasted great, the service was fairly quick and theres a decent amount of parking. Would definitely recommend this place if youre going to grab breakfast and youre in the area
Top notch restaurant food in high end dinner decor! Ive eaten at dozens of diners, this is the best!
Visited for the first time here, all the stars are going to the service, fast and pleasant.Food was dry, tasteless, and not very appealing as you can see on the pictures. Canadian bacon needed some more life as it looked like it was dead for centuries. Goat cheese omelette and hush brown shared the same fate.Brazilian steak and eggs were not bad, as steak was well marinated and tender.Green tea was hot and good, no complaints.Bottom line, if you have nowhere else to go, it’s your place.
Its a mad hatter themed diner, good food, above average quality and service.
Bring your appetite, everything here is serve to satisfy your hunger. If you have enjoy desserts the glass display once you enter will have you drooling with eyes glazed. Lol or maybe its just me
Excellent food...I have never had a bad meal there and service is great
Fresh food every time I visit. Love it here
Excellent food and service but pricey.
Quintessential dinner with an enormous menu. Great breakfast choices. Good food, decent service. Slightly odd parking lot.
We had to wait about 15 minutes due to having social distancing. They sanitized each table as customers left. The service was very good and the food was well made and a generous portion. Definitely a great dining experience and a clean establishment.
Food was great and our waiter was downright fantastic. also got food very fast despite the place being crowded
I love that it’s 24 hours but it’s definitely not like the one in West Orange. Wait time was fine, but the waiter was horrible along with the food! Then as we were leaving we told the lady in front to split the bill between a card and money, she bills the transaction to one person card after taking both card and money. Everything was just horrible. Never again
Burger was good, fries were the cheap type, and the chicken fingers were very thin and tasted like mediocre brand name. Havent come here in a while and wont go back anytime soon.Edit: gave it another go. Everything was decent. The fries were better, mozzarella sticks were good, and disco fries were not as large quantity as other places but they were sufficient.
A bit pricey but you can find a few decent deals if you look hard. Good layout, clean seats and tables. Food is o.k. but could be better. Eggs had a funny taste, better after I wrapped them in the toast. Dessert cake was standard fare but small for what you are paying. Service by young guy with beard was outstanding.
🍽$$$Plain Greek yogurt $6Cmon !So, I got my moneys worth just from people watching 😉FYI,..The national average price of 4-6 ounce organic Greek yogurt is $1.05, unchanged from two weeks ago. This is only 5 cents higher than conventional Greek yogurt.Nice markup
Chit chat is one of them places that always satisfy the mood you are in. Food is good a tad pricey but its worth it really.
Not only is it fun for big groups it was fun to bring kids of all ages and we had plenty of space to relax and enjoy our food. This has been my third time visiting this place cant wait for another birthday.
One the best diner places in the area. They have gigantic menu with items for breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner. There are plenty if sitting area, so not a long waiting time, if any in the first place. I loved the Chicken Fajita Omelette I tried, It was delicious. I also tried the french toast and it was amazing. They also have a pastry section with some delightful cakes. I am not a diner fan but this place totally blew my mind. Will totally go back to try out other items as well.
Food Was Hot And Delicious, Staff Was Very Friendly, Place Was Very Clean
I loved this diner the service. Everything Loved past tense. Service is poor unfriendly. The food lackluster. Very disappointed Was one of the best
It was my first time here and it truly knocked my socks off. There were so many awesome choices to choose from. My waiter, Elias, also gets 5 stars. He recommended the Meat Lovers Scramble and it was the best breakfast ever. Great service and food. Would definitely recommend and this will be my go-to breakfast spot from now on!
I went here a few nights ago the food is so good the Greek wrap is absolutely delicious and the waffle fries are the best waffle fries I’ve ever had. I will definitely be coming back here soon!
Love coming here! great service and excellent food cant wrong with anything on the menu. Staff is super friendly too!
Food was excellent service a little slow need more people in the morning for breakfast to help serve
Yum! This place is a throwback to an earlier time. Comfy booths, solid food, huge portions, great place for breakfast, lunch, and a decent chit chat.
Considering the shortage of labor that is going on he still got my food out in a timely manner
Arrived a little after 5pm. Not very busy. Was seated & given water immediately and then totally ignored. People who arrived after us were waited on and still no one even looked at us. We left, went to the Saddle Brook Dinner, were served immediately and after ordering while we were waiting for our food 2 other servers asked us were we taken care of. Shame on you Chit Chat!
The food always tastes fresh and well made. Great spot for late night diner food
We love to come here for cake. But they have standard diner fare and everything that Ive tried has been delicious.
Amazing food, great staff. Beautiful decor, a fantastic place to eat.
We have a diner on the corner of our block but we choose to drive to the chit chat for our meals. We also order carry out from them and it arrives still warm. Truth is we have never had a bad meal or bad service. This is truly a 5 star diner!
The food is amazing and delicious. The staff is great. Never had a bad meal here. When I am in the area I eat there only
