This place is so cool if you remember the old 70s root beer mug rotating on a pole, youll be reminded of the old A&W days. Their root beer is excellent, great chicken and they make the best sweet mustard sauce ever! They have a small store of Hannibal collectibles on the other side too. Cool place. Just a great place to eat. I recommend getting the maid right sandwiches or the pork tenderloin. The pork tenderloin is bigger than the plate. Go for it!
Their shakes are the best! I really enjoyed the Huckleberry Shake...so creamy and delicious! Then, my husband had their Grilled Tenderloin Sandwich and a salad. I enjoyed their fresh fried chicken with mashed potatoes and green beans. Plus, we purchased several toys and games in their large gift shop for friends and family!
This is a hidden gem in Hannibal. I recommend the grilled tenderloin sandwich. You can order sandwiches without side items. I like that. The milkshakes are outstanding. My wife and I enjoyed a huckleberry shake and we were tempted to order a 2nd. The menu has more than enough choices. The fried chicken is excellent and different than chain restaurants. I would give them a 4.5 if I could.
Their famous onion rings were amazing! Those receive a five star rating alone. 😊 And their homemade root beer is delicious! 😋

My wife and I ordered the 2 Maid-Rites with fries. Both were pretty good! Frosted mug root beer paired with our meal nicely as well. Price wasnt too high so thats another plus. The wait staff was friendly. Overall this was a nice stop on our trip through Hannibal!
The wait staff was friendly and knowledgable about the history of the place, however my food was awful! I had a grilled pork tenderloin sandwich and the pork was extremely dry and tasteless. Thankfully, there was a tomato, onion &lettuce, which was the only moisture and thing I could taste. The meat was like eating old leather. My coworker was happier with his sandwich.
Its pretty much what should be expected for an older diner. Really cute wall mural. I had a maid-rite loose meat sandwich because a friend from Iowa talked it up. Nothing special for me....but it was edible. Hubby had smoked pork that was REALLY good! The rootbeer is OMG good, in my opinion, and DEFINITELY worth getting in a frosty mug....and going home with a 4-pack 🍻
My wife had the cobb salad and it was HUGE, and good. I finished with a chocolate shake which was perfect. And super friendly staff.
Nice diner and game shop just off the way. The chicken (which takes a while to make fresh) looked delicious, and the burgers were tasty. They also have their own root beer, which is worth trying. Definitely recommend it.
This was a quintessential stop for lunch in the historic Mississippi River Town of Hannibal, Missouri. A mainstay restaurant known for their Maid-Rite sandwiches, Southern Fried Chicken (25 minutes), homemade root beer, and beer-battered onion rings. A pleasant dining space with charm and character. The food was delicious and plated nicely. Service was excellent with a smile!
Possibly worst restaurant experience of my life! Food took over 45 minutes to arrive. When it did no silverware, lemon or tartar sauce to accompany the catfish arrived with it. Tough to eat coleslaw without a fork. When we requested refill on Pepsi and lemonade we were told that refills are not offered- although it states specifically on menu that they are offered. When my daughter went inside restaurant to again request refills she was told to leave, she was banned forever from the restaurant, and manager ( a very rude female) said she was calling the police. All this over a refill of Pepsi? How ridiculous!!
This was the worst ever. The waitress although not rude was not very efficient. Slaw was awful and no fries with sandwich. Gravy with my sandwich was about a spoonful. Kids meals with no side. Not offered drink refills. Fiddlesticks outshined this one 150% and was by far cheaper. Not to mention they sat us at a table with fold down sides and the they definitely needed to be cleaned in the cracks. Wish i would have read the reviews.

Really disappointed in this place. Our server brought our drinks so quickly that we didn’t even have one minute to look at the menu - we asked for a few more moments to decide…. And never saw her again. At one point, another employee told us that our server would be right over …. Nope. We waited for at least 15 minutes then gave up. We said we would pay for the one soda we had and prepared to leave. Not only didn’t offer to comp the half consumed soda to try to make up for bad service, but actually charged my husband over 3 bucks for a Diet Pepsi..Pathetic. After we left, saw this place has a TON of negative reviews … guess we dodged a bullet!

We tried to order kids meals. As the menu plainly states kids meals come with one regular side, kids drink, fresh fruit, and kids portion of fries. My boys (both under age twelve) decided they wanted Mac n cheese for their side. We ordered the waitress a bit unsure due to new menus she said but she thought the only sides we could have was mash potatoes, fries, or fresh fruit. I asked if she would check with the manager. She came back and said we get fries and fruit and the only side choice is mashed potatoes. I asked why would anyone want mashed potatoes with fries? I asked to speak to the manager? She came to the table with a look on her face like why was I bothering her? I read the menu allowed and asked why we couldnt have a choice from the sides menu? She responded with this is a reasonably priced kids meal and you can have mashed potatoes, but Im not giving you Mac n cheese! I said well take the check for the appetizer and drinks or actually well just leave we had just recieved the appetizer and hadnt touched it yet. She said no youll have to pay for it because weve already cooked it and brought it too you. I told her she was awfully rude for a manager she said I was rude apparently for bringing their false advertising to their attention. DO NOT GO HERE THEY ARE RUDE AND APPARENTLY DO NOT STAND BY THEIR MENU. I would have been fine if she had been pleasant and said sorry this is just a typo on our menu but she came at me like I was the bad guy for trying to get some clarity.UPDATE POST OWNERS RESPONSE :Perhaps if you had shown an ounce of customer service and explained that Mac n cheese is a premium side instead of looking at me thru your condescending eyes and assuming I was trying to scam you. Nowhere in the vacinity of the sides menu was your code system explained. Rather than suggesting we needed to choose from the non-starred sides you simply said Im not giving you Mac n cheese! As for the drink mistake, I never mentioned it to you, I merely pointed it out to our waitress since she wasnt the one who brought the drinks. I ordered 2 smalls and a medium and did not want to be charged for the 3 larges I was brought. In regards to the other customers I never said anything unpleasant to your staff (yes I reciprocated your poor negative attitude back to you) and maybe if they knew the circumstances and had seen and heard the entire conversation they might not have been so willing to interject. Maybe if you are not good at interacting with people you shouldnt be in the public service industry. My family was in the restaurant business quite successfully for nearly 20 years and you would not have lasted 1 day on our staff with your poor customer service skills.
This may have been the worst restaurant experience I have ever had (I can remember nothing worse). I suspect they are paying for positive reviews because the positive reviews about good service and food are unlikely to come from customers. My husband ordered a $10 burger that was supposed to have some kind of well-described toppings, and got a thin wafer of something within a soggy bun. I ordered their specialty since 1942 Maid Rite sandwich; it was a few pieces of ground beef leaking from a soggy sandwich bun. My son had a kids cheeseburger that was so tough that it was hard for him to take bites. It look about an hour for the order to arrive, and when it did, several parts of our order were missing. We had to go back three times to get the missing pieces of our order. Im leaving this review because I wish Id read it before we ate there!

Solid diner. The root beer is good and is bottomless! The 6in onion ring stack is plenty for four people and the batter is nice. The Fried Chicken lives up to the hype; great breading, piping hot when you get it. The salads are massive and can balance the fried foods well.

Cute diner. If you’ve never tried a Maid-Rite you should. Not many of them left. This restaurant has several good add-on to the normal Maid-Rite menu. Our waiter was quick and friendly.
Food was delicious, root beer was crazy good. If you like harry potter I would highly recommend going into their gift shop. I got a Hogwarts sign and a harry potter rubiks cube and I couldnt be happier!!!

First off, the bad review comes after have stopping here a few other times and had great experiences, that’s why we stopped again. Should have scrolled the recent reviews first.Way understaffed and the waiters they have don’t know how to use the device to take your order or how to serve the meal. He brought food out with no silverware.i ordered a salad so I received my silverware and still no dressing, I asked for ranch and was given a spicy sauce. I think our server was actually part of the kitchen staff. Everything is served on paper plates and plastic ware. So if you order something that needs a sturdy fork and knife, good luck.The quality of the food was lacking also. My grilled chicken was cold, our friend’s tenderloin was paper thin, the chicken fried chicken looked pretty cheap. In the past (meaning within the last year) everything seemed much better.
We came to Hannibal to check out the Mark Twain Museum. One of the ladies that worked there recommended the diner for lunch. It was great. We ordered the pickle fries (as an app)Ol’ Portobello burger, Dinette horseshoe, Tenderloin, Steampunk burger, onion rings, & chocolate milkshake.We were all super pleased with our selections. The portobello burger was one of their veggie selections; they have gluten free and vegan options in the menu too. Their menu has lots options for the whole family to enjoy. The waitress brought all four of us their homemade root beer to sample and it was delicious! If you like root beer, this will be a special treat for you. Everyone was attentive and sweet, so we will def be back!

First of all the manager is beyond RUDE! We did not ask for a discount on our horrible experience but she made sure to tell us, I am NOT giving you guys a discount. She refused to provide us with her name or the owner of the facilities name. The food wash cold, the Mac and cheese came straight out of a refrigerator apparently they forgot to put it in the microwave. When it was brought to the attention of the staff of the issues we had with the food there was no apology. Instead called liars and told that they brought the food out pipping hot. We have been to this restaurant before and always had a great experience, now I will never go back and sadly I do not feel with the service they provide that they will be able to keep their doors open much longer.With no names being provided I would like to know who is held accountable for the horrible food and the horrible customer service provided?

Driving by and the place looked interesting. Unfortunately we were disappointed in the chicken and waffles. Chicken was a leg and thigh and was pretty good. No option to pay more for white meat.The waffles were not ok.
Some of the best service I have ever received was from here. A great place to stop for lunch and enjoy a root beer. you can take home the root beer in gallon bags, single bottles, six packs, and a case of 24 and trust me jts all worth it. the fried pickles are amazing and its very family friendly. I regret the fact that I didnt get my waitresses name as she was so kind and so patient. 10/10 a must visit.

From the start the waiter did not know how to use his device(we was informed he is fairly new before we had left). He then continued to hover after the drinks were ordered for a good 3-5 minutes. When the food came out it was all worng! Im allergic to tomatoes and asked specifically for NO TOMATO because of an allergy. Then after it was sent back they scraped everything off of it and proceeded to lie and say it was remade in a 5 minute time span (after waiting 20 minutes initially). He also set everything down IN FRONT OF MY 1 YEAR OLD so he ended up with ketchup on him(which isn’t horrible, he was cute doing it) THEN when I received my receipt i was charged for 3 sodas when they were all waters. After speaking to another employee that was very helpful and very kind, i asked to speak with a manager WHO THEN SENT OUT ANOTHER EMPLOYEE. The employee took off the charge for the meals and me and my mother ended up not eating because if this bad service(the babies ate while we argued with the staff). 10 of 10 DO NOT RECOMMEND!

The only reason I have then 2 stars is because they came out promptly. The order was incorrect. The bun on sandwich was entirely burnt. The hop used a tablet and still get the order right.. had to make several trips inside to complete.
This place was terrible.I ordered a patty melt & onion rings.My husband had a tenderloin & onion rings.Mine was awful.The patty melt meat was not fresh.The onion rings were so greasy that you couldnt eat some.My husbands was ok.I told the waitress, she had a attitude.She did say she would do it over but we had already spent too much time waiting.This was the only resturant in Hannibal that was this bad.The manager was really unpleasant to talk to also.Wish i had got her name.Update-just got put in hospital because of e- coli.This place needs to be shut down.Doctor said this could be the reason.Almost died, blood pressure dropped so low.

The food and service was excellent but their social distancing restrictions are so extreme that it makes the experience completely unenjoyable. From disposable table service to rubber gloves to even a HUGE laminated, double-sided signs that they bring to the table explaining all their extreme actions meanwhile the manager was giving hugs to customers... Yes, I enjoyed the hug, shes a friend of mine but it was a huge double standard. I will not be back until they change their extreme restrictions.

The food here is well thought out, and absolutely delicious! They had Maidrite Horseshoes!! WHAT!?!?!?!?! Amazing!! The service couldnt be friendlier. So glad that we came here. I will be coming here again and again and again. What a first impression!!! Thank you for the great food and great service!!

We both had burgers and fries. I am a little sad a didnt try the Maid-Rite. But what I had was good (steampunk burger). Our server was nice and did a good job checking on us.The prices are good, and the food is pretty good for a quick bite while you’re sightseeing.We also tried the root beer and it was soooo good.

The food was great. The ONLY thing that I didnt like was the coleslaw. It had way too much mayonnaise in it. You really couldnt taste anything but the mayo. But other than that, the food was great and our waitress was extremely friendly!!
