Love shopping there. You wouldnt believe what youll find that you cant get anywhere else and at a bargain..like money tree and lucky bamboo plants in beautiful ceramic.. dirt cheap. So much quality kitchen and all household things! The produce has an immense selection...and fresh foods..fresh meat butcher counter and fresh fish are excellent. I always spend too much π
I love to shop at the V & C (V & T) Market at 12 N. Franklin Street in Hempstead. I close my eyes to the outside world and I am transported to Asia and even Latin America. There is plenty of fresh produce, package treats, teas, spices, meat, poultry and seafood. Various Asian groceries abound and even (Phillipino) ube purple ice cream! There are also Asian housewares, dishes and cooking utensils. We are so fortunate to live so close to a world of ethnic foods. When COVID is over maybe the bakery and take out food section will reopen.
I love this store! I would like it better if they had more employees who could assist with helping you find products and Make suggestions for things to try.
This supermarket needs to be knocked down and rebuilt. Its so old and depressing inside. As soon as you walk in youre greeted with a horrible smell. Even though they have a wide variety of items and all products are stacked neatly, the produce was not fresh. The prices are too high. The lighting is not bright enough, the ceiling and floors are cracked and old. The freezers were broken with puddles of water all over. They also do not scale your fish properly. Its sad that there are no other decent Chinese vegetable stores or fish markets in the area. The supermarket needs a major upgrade. The residents of the village of Hempstead deserve better quality groceries in the area.
I have been shopping here for years. Lately prices have gone way up high. A bunch of lemon grass used to be at $1.99 and two weeks later it was up to $2.99. And prices of vegetables terribly went up. But the most disappointing of all was this store has been selling old frozen products. Months ago, I bought dumplings and I ended up throwing them away. They tasted so bad. They tasted like rancid oil. Months later I bought another kind of frozen stuff like fish balls and another kind of of dumplings that looked fresh. But, it was another disappointment. The fishballs and dumplings ended up in the garbage can. They were rancid. And another disappointment was that, packed seaweeds were marked down from $7.99 to $5.99. But the receipt did not reflect the discount. I paid the full amount of $7.99. I used to like this store but lately not so much. Sometimes cashiers and stackers are rude. They are not willing to help you. May be because of language issues, but at least they should be polite. And one time a couple of cashiers were arguing in front of the shoppers last December (around Christmas time).
I love Asian food. I get all my fresh fish there. Best place to buy fresh seafood.
Good market with a wide selection of items. Fish and meat markets were fresh with a number of reasonably priced items. Their frozen selection was the only limited thing (lacking some frozen dumplings that you dubbed in other markets). Checkout was a little slow and the nearby parking lot is a mess (glass and garbage).
I give it 5 stars due to the amazing selection of products here. I would give it 3 for visual appeal, but the availability of products far outweighs everything else. Need FRESH bean sprouts? They have it. Need sesame oil? How about 20 various options, from 4oz to oil cans. Noodles? NOODLES?!?! good luck trying to narrow it down. Canned bubble tea? They got it (but the canned bubbles arent so good). Tamarind? Fresh: yes pulp: yes, jarred: yes. I could have saved myself a lot of shopping grief if I had started coming here years ago. They also have a good selection of latin food needs, plus American.
Exotic Asian, Caribbean and Latin, full supermarket plus. Filled with specialtu food items, sauces, spices and drinks.Full fresh fish market. Fresh Full Hot food banquet bazzar. Delicious.
It has what I need but the fish smell is strong
I go here for my basic asian groceries, since its the closest one to me. Some of their items (I .e) veggies can be overpriced and its not always the freshest. Other than that, Im glad I dont have to drive 30 mins out for another location.
This supermarket specializes in Asian foods, spices and kitchen utensils. The seafood department has a wide variety of fresh and live fish, crabs and lobsters. The salmon, flounder, scallops, and shrimp are very fresh. They have an entire isle dedicated to green tea and other variety of teas.
It was like being transported to a Vietnamese open market. The staff was friendly and engaging. I cant wait to go back!!
Huge selection of asian foods. at least 50 kinds of Ramen
About what youd expect from an Asian market, and then some. Similar to stores in China Town in both Manhattan and Flushing, this is an incredibly well stocked store with what can be an intimidating selection at times. So many items to choose from! Spend some time to explore and discover new food items, authentic ingredients and imported housewares. And when grow weary of Asia, the store carries an almost as impressive selection of Latin and South American items! Highly recommended!
Ive been looking for this the whole time. Now I just saw this around hempstead!
Great food place and cheap and affordable prices
If you know how to cook asian food and want to find the real deal ingredients......this is the place!!!Very good utensils and cooking gear, also some surprises from the latin cuisine.Cooking enthusiasts go there!!!
Unsupportive Staff. In an aisle full of tea I tried to get help finding black cohosh. The associate working the aisle clearly was uninterested in assisting me. He spoke in a different language frequently pointing down the aisle in a dismissive manner as if to tell me to go away. I never found what I was looking for.
Its a nice place for fresh produce and lots of nice asian utensils and so. I like the convenience instead of going to flushing. I dinged it two stars because i found the cleanliness of the sausage bowls in the fridge terrible (it looked like mold) and there were snacks that were expired for 6 months before still on the shelves. Overall would still go back but be careful to check your products.
Has everything but staff not very friendly and helpful plus has a smell from fish market
When V & C first opened it was billed as a little bit of Flushing in the revitalized central Hempstead. And for a while it lived to that rep complete with an untidy upkeep. Not having been through the place for a few years now, I was surprised with the brighter, cleaner store; fresh produce and the better organization of items. And their selection of items, especially the Japanese variety, was larger as well. Great to see this place becoming better.
Ill pass. I wasnt pleased. They need major upgrading. This establishment wasnt inviting at all
Pre-Covid, this place used to be bustling with at least 2 - 3 aisles of overflowing fresh produce and tons of fresh Asian fruits. Today, I was disappointed to find one one aisle of sparse fruits and vegetables. No lemongrass, no galangal, nothing that they always had before.Only 2 registers were open. Barely any customers and their bakery area was cordoned off and closed for quite some time, or so it looked like. It was dark and all the shelves were empty.
They have a lot of vegan products I couldnt find anywhere else and its big in there I love it
Never been here before but always been curious. They have a lot of Asian food. I was looking for different instant ramen and found a bunch. They have a lot of cool cheap houseware that I want to purchase. Bought some Asian snacks. It wasnt crowded either. I look forward to coming back and finding new things.
This place is great for grocery shopping! There is a lot of both Asian and latino food and snacks.
Got good variety but always have difficulty finding things. When ask for help, sometimes get plain refusal, sometimes get lucky.
Not enough fruits and veggies were rotten
If you are looking for anything from The Far East and SE Asia, and dont want to go to Flushing, this is the place to go. I found all my Chinese sauces, noodles, vegetables, spices, cooking wares and meats (Woks, strainers, cooking spatulas) that I was looking for.Staff was very helpful and knowledgeable. The have a huge selection of all stuff Asian and was very impressed with the depth and breadth of their selections. The supermarket is very huge and they also have a cooked, hot serve food section with very tasty stuff. If youre looking to cook a homemade Chinese/SE Asian meal, this place has everything you need to do that.Highly recommended!!!
Bad and expencive now this days
I wish the was an options for No Stars.... it was horrible... the staff was extremely dismissive and rude. Weve been traveling from Manhattan to shop there for years and yesterdays was horribly the worse. We will never go back.
Sorry but cant like, no comments.
Great prices and easy to find what you are looking for
Various things to choose from, starting from Central American,Mexican products Asian products and many more choices friendly staff
No one that works there speaks much English or any at all not do they understand but you will always have a peaceful experience and a HUGE selection of food products/merchandise from many countries around the world. I always go back because it makes me feel like walking into the TWILIGHT ZONE lol enjoyable. Plenty of parking space as well. Just do not expect the employees to assist you π
Disappointed. Items were way overpriced. Left without making a purchase.
Wonderful Ramen selection i mean its overwhelming and theres so much interesting items to find here plus the prices are amazing!!!
Good source of asian groceries but selection seems a little limited during the pandemic
They were very helpful I purchased salmon and it was very fresh. They cleaned and cut it for me
Iβve had good experiences in this market. Employees there may not be as friendly as people think but they sell a lot of items without making a trip to flushing. As for people complaining about the smell, donβt bother going to Chinatown or Main Street if you dont like the smell from the store. Just saying
The fish department is great π
Were all vaccinated no reason to require masks still get with the program
I love the store i get what i want
Not being Asian l, I was looking for some help in the store for some specific Asian items. No one in the store was either helpful or friendly . I would not recommend this place if youβre familiar with Asian products
The store is not too clean Theres a bad odor especially in the fish and meat section.
Everytime I come in the storeCashiers employees there a problemUnfriendly, rude,π€¨
Good selection and pricing. Great social distancing!
Longtime Asian supermarket in this neighborhood. A wide selection of canned and dry goods, more specialized to Chinese, Vietnamese, Malaysian, and Thai. A smallish selection of fresh vegetables and fruit. Well priced fresh meat and love seafood. Theres also a Chinese bakery.
Not really an Asian market
The prices are great for seafood.
She smell that gets you when you enter the store is of old fish. Not welcoming. Past that there is alot of items that are original to this location. Service was slow.
Bought egg roll wrappers - frozen and when defrosted dried up.
Freshest fish, live from the tank. Clean store, lots of unusual produce..
Was disappointed in the maintenance of the place. As I approached the entrance the smell of urine was strong. Upon entering another smell of meat, not like A&S pork store which smells delicious.I was able to find the bamboo steamer but look carefully not all of them look good. The personnel is helpful.
Prices are good and it provides a good selection of vet products in comparison to other Asian grocery stores. The only reason Iβm not giving it five stars is because the produce is hit or miss.
It is a nice place to shop, prices are reasonable they have almost everything you want for daily needs.
One can definitely find very unique items at this market. Closest thing to flushing in the area.
This store carries a big variety of Asian goods from different Asian countries. I like the fact I can communicate with workers.
Good selection of not normally found foods, cleaner than many others like it, great staff and quality cuts of meats.
Great fresh fish, very clean and great service
This spot is worth a visit. They have big portions for affordable prices. Consistently clean and with great atmosphere. Highly recommended.
Asian grocery store with a large selection, meat prices are good. Chinese, Japanese, Korean, and Filipino are some of the cultural items they sell here.
Old enough to remember when this place was called V & T Supermarket. One of very few Asian supermarkets in the area. Nearest one outside of Flushing to my knowledge is H-Mart in Hicksville. Wide variety of Asian groceries as well as other varieties to supply the needs reflective of the community its in (Latin American and Caribbean foods). Wonderful and delicious chinese bakery and steam table take out counter at the entrance. Great fish market too!
Very good experience good products, good prices, friendly staff
Very rude disrespectful workers. Who feel every black person is looking to steal from their unkept nasty store. First and last visit. Stay away from this place.....
Customer service is great. They always have fresh and high quality groceries at their disposal and the prices are reasonable.
They need to renovate the place. It is old and dirty.
Huge tofu selection...so many offerings that I cant identify...hard to find specific products because it is arranged by cuisine and many of the workers, though they try to help, cant...prices mostly good...restaurant and bakery in the vestibule...frequently, there is an odor of fish
Have more than two registers open. Was on line longer than I was shopping.
Its fine but not better than other super markets
This Store use to have a few good things Id buy regularly, but, def not the case anymore!! And noone can even help you because noone speaks English, Ridiculous!!
Very helpful staff, found all the asian ingredients, condiments seasonings and snacks
Kind of dingy but it has a wide selection. Of authentic product.
Great Selection, very nice people.Unlike the next few reviews, I frequently eat the Lotus leaf sticky rice and have sampled all bakery items. Highly recommended. I frequent Flushing and Chinatown. And when I am in Long Island this bakerys items is my daily meal. All the items are authentic, been eating Chinese bakery food at least 20 years.Lotus leaf sticky rice has two varieties, one with peanut and pork, the other with mung bean and pork. They maybe accidentally say green bean and pork. But its mung bean, having dim sum all around NYC. This place is absolutely authentic. Where else can you get whole roast pork, Chinese bakery, grocery all in one place. I love the peanut rice balls. The fruit cake rivals that I have tasted in flushing, and you dont have to buy the whole cake. Highly Recommended.
I was surprised at how dirty and unclean this place was. Floors were sticky and gross. Smelled funny. Very shocking. I wont be back.
Good prices good service but the smell in the store is terrible
Ok location alot cracked head here in Hempstead
This is an Asian Grocery. If you wanna try or would like to buy asian ingredients for cooking this is one of the good store to go. The price is not that bad. But its not the cleanest. The place is a bit old. The floor shows its old. But all in all it was fine for me. Though, most of the store clerk and cashier doesnt speak English.
Great location,Great Services,Price a little higher than in Queens over all.Less choice of Vegetables and Fruits. They should manage more on how to keep all Vegetables Fresh. Meat and Fish section are perfect.Reasonable price and Fresh fish.So far very convenient for us.
I find the prices here to be a lot better then other Asian supermarkets. Im a big fan of their bakery, the man who runs it is always pleasant and highly accommodating to my usually big orders. I do enjoy the hot food they have as well. Its a very good price for what youre getting.
Smelly, old place.
They have fresh seafood, and I usually buy there chicken wings, there big and good
This neighborhoods H-Mart. V&C is a Chinese run supermarket that specializes in Asian food. Chinese food, Thailand, Philippine and other south-east Asian country imports and various types of Vegan food, Halal-friendly food among others. There is a gigantic seafood area for fresh fish and shellfish...as well as frozen food areas for various imported foods such as Chinese pork buns, dim sum...and canned import fruits and vegetables. Their selection is GIGANTIC - just like H-Marts. There are a few things Id like to see, however. #1 They need to get nicer flooring. The floors are worn and I think shopping there would be helped by new floor tiles. New shopping carts would also be nice. #2 The seafood area needs to be cut off from the rest of the store because the smell of seafood carries across the store and is a bit overwhelming. There is a Chinese food counter and a Chinese bakery within this stores building which serve good food, but the Chinese food section needs more organization to make it on par with the average Chinese take out.
A top class store. Clean and good selections. Well stocked.
Scary staff. Nice head lady she speaks English and although busy will try to help. choice of fruits and vegetables from other parts of the world. Delicious flavors in ice pops like watermelon and other fruits honeydew and more exotic flavors but some may taste fishy
A wide variety of fruits, vegetables and an expanded section of different sauces.
A lot of different snacks and other foods my wife ate back in the Philippines was in the store. Also we found some fish that we ate in Canada there to. Over all very good experience with Inexpensive food and other food at a good price. I recommend this place for show some of your shopping needs.
I love the bakery inside and the fresh fish options are solid for the neighborhood. Found some sauces I have been looking and some Asian noodles in my preferred brand.
Good stuff fair priceFresh seafood ...
They are like a little international market...fresh vegetables, fresh fruits, live seafood (fish, crustacean)...products & produces thats usually hard to get elsewhere...dont forget to visit the restaurant, the foods ready around 11 AM, by let say 2PM ITS USually all gone & theyre super generous, for about 8$ you get a complete meal for about two people.
Good place. Good merchandise
This supermarket has a lot of ASN food and some Latin food also. Fish is usually fresh except sometimes with very bad smell.
It may not look like much on the outside, but dont be afraid to go in. Theres lots of great food and groceries to buy if youre looking for Asian stuff. Definitely one of my favorite places to go for lunch. The appearance may throw some people off but its still a great place nonetheless.
They have everything exotic
I love to get my veggies and fresh meat from here. Everything is fresh must try if you have not.
