A short time ago I purchased a 700r4 transmission from Bow Tie Overdrive. I installed the transmission with a friend in my garage. The procedure went flawlessly and I appreciated the time that the Bow Tie Transmission spent with me on the telephone getting the transmission ready for the road. The transmission drove fine.Soon after installing the Bow Tie Overdrive I was diagnosed with a serious blood cancer that caused me to enter a chemotherapy process that lasted at least 7 months and required a three week hospital stay on top of that at Stanford Hospital. After my hospital stay I needed to recover and eventually was able to start driving again.About six weeks ago, the Bow Tie Overdrive completely failed. I had followed all of the installation instructions including a transmission cooler and temperature gauge. The transmission had less than 1000 miles on it when it failed. As a result, I telephoned Bow Tie Transmission and learned that the transmissions warranty had just expired a few days earlier. I was advised that due to the circumstances Bow Tie Transmission would “work with me” and I was promised a call back the next day but received no calls from Bow Tie Transmission. After about two weeks I called the business and had to remind them who I was and remind them of my set of circumstances. I was advised that the transmissions pump likely had failed and I would be sent a new pump at no charge.Due to my medical situation and circumstances I regret purchasing a transmission from Bow Tie Transmission. This is because of a number of reasons. The transmission failing so quickly is one reason. Another reason is that Bow Tie Transmission is several hundred miles from my home in Central California and the distance makes it difficult to get repairs done. Also, the response I received from Bow Tie Transmission and the fact I have been forced to call them instead of having my calls returned as promised is surprising to me.Currently, I am taking the 700r4 transmission to a local shop in the morning to get it repaired as I am in no position to do the work due to my medical condition. I am optimistic that Bow Tie Transmission will work with me and I will eventually be satisfied with my Bow Tie Transmission. The latest update on my transmission is that it was determined to have had a pump that cracked and failed. My local transmission expert had to replace the pump. He also showed me several parts in the transmission that were obviously used and worn and should have never been used by Bow Tie Transmission. He also identified parts installed by Bow Tie Transmission that were inferior and consistent with bare minimum standards. These parts were replaced and upgraded with parts that will last.Unfortunately I must add that I never heard again from Bow Tie Transmission again. I now have a high quality transmission rebuilt by my local transmission expert that comes with a guarantee twice as long as Bow Tie Transmission offers.

I am writing this review pre-installation and will update my review after break-in. Bowtie overdrives customer service have been incredible. They are extremely knowledgeable and go above and beyond to make sure everything is provided for your install. I purchased a Level 3 700r4 and after comparing their build to similar shops in the area it was a good price. They finished my transmission on time and even held it for an extra 3 weeks then previously scheduled with no issues since I couldnt pick it up on time. They have provided a well written installation/warranty package that is very in depth. My favorite part is that the warranty doesnt begin till you send them all correct pressures! No need to hurry and install it to avoid wasting your warranty. As of now, I am extremely happy with buying from Bowtie.

Transmission went out after a week they told me i installed it wrong. took to another transmission shop and was told and showed that the transmission they sold me should have never been rebuilt. the guide pin holes were polished to an oval and inside was not salvageable. they would not return my money and had to spend 1300 to have my original trans rebuilt. 13 yrs ago sorry they might be good now but not then

Bad experience with the the 700r4 I bought from Bow-Tie Overdrive. I followed Bow-Ties install instructions to the letter. On the first test drive I knew something was wrong. There was no up-shifting. I ended up taking the car to a local shop because not only would I have to remove the transmission for shipping but I would have to pay for the shipping to and from Bow-Tie, even if it was an obvious warranty issue (which it was). The local shop removed the pan then removed the valve body. The valve body looked like it had been sitting outside in a junk pile. It was very pitted & rusted. Yes rust. How often do you see rust on internal transmission parts! Especially from one that was supposedly just custom built for me. Buyer beware. Chris and the owner would not help with the cost of repair at all. They wouldnt even return my calls after awhile. What I asked for and expected was very fair.DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY! Stay local with a reputable shop.

This is by far the best experience with a trans shop I have ever had, they installed a 700r4 in my 67 GMC truck and it runs and shifts flawlessly, the girl in the office(Jen) worked with me from getting my truck shipped to them all the way thru till I picked it up,calling me with any thing that came up along the way so there were no surprises when I picked it up.The shop was awesome, very clean and the the degree of professionalism was very evident.Their tv cable set up is the best by far.Dont waste your time and money anywhere else .
