First time eating at Wood and definitely not the last. Server was top notch and offered good food and drink suggestions. You have to try the monster tater nacho appetizer.. great for sharing or as its own meal. The salmon on my salad was cooked to perfection. For dessert I had the apple tart.. it was wonderful! Definitely recommend Wood!
Service and food were great. Had the bang bang shrimp and boyfriend had the lasagna. Our server, Donald, was above and beyond awesome, served us a free dessert to congratulate us for our first-time pregnancy ❤ Cant wait to try more foods!
Stopped in for lunch on 10-13-21.The Staff were so friendly and courteous!My boyfriend ordered a cheeseburger with Mac n Cheese. I ordered a salad with white wine vinegarete.Both meals were very good and our food came out fast.Thank you guys, well be back!!
The atmosphere in wood is definitely chill. It’s very dimly lit inside. You often forget it’s daylight outside. Leaving is similar to leaving a movie theater. As far as the service, they could use a little improvement. The staff has always been friendly with me but they are often hard to find and wait times can be pretty long even when the restaurant is very slow. I’m assuming this is due to staff shortage like most establishments these days. The food is generally really good. They specialize in Pizzas, pasta and sandwiches. I’ve tried several and they’ve all been pretty darn good. I especially liked the fish tacos and mojo cubano sandwich. It’s definitely worth trying if you haven’t.
WOOD is never disappointing. Their chicken and waffles are amazing, and the pizza is always a favorite. Donald was a wonderful server, very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. We will definitely be back.
Went here this past week. Had the bang bang shrimp tacos as suggested by our server Donald. He was spot on with the suggestion. I will surely come back to see him. He made the experience all the more enjoyable with his prompt and attentative service!
Awesome wood fired pizza, great sandwiches, excellent dinner selections, all made with fresh, quality ingredients. The wine and beer selections are expertly curated, and the cocktail selection is unparalleled. This place is a must try.
As a Doordash driver i highly recommend WOOD. Its casual yet very nice. Have never had an order that anything was overlooked or omitted from. Very clean, more upscale than most places- nice ppl, good food much of which is cooked in a wood powered oven.

We really liked the lasagna. They offer a generous size piece. The staff was all friendly and working as fast as they could, but I believe like everywhere else they are short staffed, so go with patience in mind. You will likely have long periods of waiting on your server. Our server last night had 11 tables, but she still had an amazing attitude. We will be back!

Just got a very small “large” favorite pizza delivered. The dough was stretchier than the cheese when biting. It was raw. I picked the subway quality ingredients off the top and ate it on toast I made because I am a hungry pregnant monster and didn’t want to consume raw dough.Y’all need to figure out how to handle food!
My go to spot. Food is great. Their chicken & waffles and artichoke pizza are the businesss!! Translation--do order! Dont do artichoke with chicken though. Ive tried everything on their menu and I enjoy mostly everything. Their drink specials are also great. Friendly staff and very affordable. Definitely take friends and fam here when in town. Ive only been once but I do see coming more often. Our water was extremely knowledgeable of the menu and the drinks. The menu had a vast amount of selection as well. I got the calzone. It was cooked to perfection and way more than I could possibly eat. My drink was made perfect. Oh and sized perfectly. When you walk in the aesthetics of the entire place definitely would not disappoint. when you look at the outside of the building and then you walk inside the building it is like two totally different entities. You have a bar an outdoor area and you have a restaurant.
Our first visit and the pizza was the best!! And they had our favorite Red Oak beer!! The soup was excellent too! Highly recommend this place!!!

If you want great casual dining with a twist at a reasonable price, this is the place! Unique wood fired pizzas, Wilbur on a date is amazing! Owner and chef Matt Miller goes out of his way to create new dishes and personally greet his clientele. Great pizzas, salads, tacos, etc... accompanied by excellent service (thanks Macy) make this a fantastic dining experience!!!

Just had a Door Dash delivery for lunch, and it was the best meal Ive had from takeout in a long time! I cant wait to explore their menu even further.
Came to this place with my mom for the first time today. Waitress dropped off our waters and menus. 20 minutes passed by my mom got up to tell her we were ready to order. She told her she would be right back. She never came back. Mind you we were the only ones there. We ended up leaving and going to Dantes instead. Will never come back.

Came here because it’s known for they’re special wood oven pizza. When we were greeted by the waitress we asked if we can order a pizza made specifically in the wood oven, she hesitated because they didn’t have the wood oven prepared yet so she asked her fellow coworkers if they would be able to make it and she came back with a yes. We ordered a pepperoni cheese pizza and waited. Disappointed to see the results, pizza didn’t even look toasted by the edges or nothing, it was so flimsy and droopy, outside and bottom looked like it was heated up in a regular electric oven. Wasn’t worth the 18 dollars can’t believe a $5 dollar little caesars pizza was better than that.

Wood has a relaxed atmosphere. The staff is attentive. The food is fresh and delicious. I’ve eaten there several times and have never been disappointed. It’s a great place to go for a leisurely lunch with a friend.
Just ate at Wood on the recommendation of a friend. Ive got to say. Solidly impressed. I make my living as a head chef and tend to be a bit overcritical of foods. But starting with the food because thats the first and foremost reason I go to a restaurant. I had the cowboy burger with pimento bacon mac and cheese and a side order of fries. The burger came out a little overdone but not so much for me to hate it and send it back. The bun was solid and the pork was well done. The fried onion held up its integrity despite the sauce. Now the sauce was the only problem. BBQ sauce is one thing that you have to be careful about in the south. It was starting to sour from time and lose its flavor. But the kitchen remedied it and had no problems there. Mac and cheese was very good. Only thing i would change is the noodle but that is just based on my preference. The fries came out PERFECTLY done. Beautiful. As my meal came closer to the end I dare and tempt my sugar levels with the beignets. I was not disappointed. They are fluffy light and crisp. Mouth feel was right and taste was phenomenal. Now the service. It was good. Catherine was her name and she stayed on top of things pretty well. For someone so little she ran circles around the restaurant cleaning, getting things ready, and handling us. Solid A on that. Will be coming back. Next time hopefully to meet the owner and head chef.
Ordered a wood oven pizza today, had a craving for it. Don’t know if it was actually made in a brick oven because the dough was still raw and droopy and the pizza was utterly disgusting . Looked like it was made in an ordinary electric oven. don’t know how this place has more than two stars very disappointed. Very overpriced at $18 definitely not worth the price at all. Wish i would’ve took pictures of my pizza because it was not like the pictures i saw.
Best pizza and bar in the area hands down. Really nice people. Appetizers are awesome also.Second time I’ve been here now and you absolutely cannot find this type of fresh food ANYWHERE in hickory. This is by far the best place to eat in hickory. I am picky with service and you get more than what you pay for here.

Well I went for the first time today and will NEVER be back! You had to order at counter and pay and it took over 30 minutes to get our food and we were the only ones there!! Had to get our on silverware drinks everything. And then the food sucked!! Do not waist your money!!

During the pandemic, Wood restaurant agreed to “open and safe” designation from the Chamber of Commerce and placed an “open and safe” sticker designation on their window. They then contradicted this message by posting signs in their restaurant and on their front door that make light of the mask order and do nothing to encourage mask wearing. The sign said it believes people have a “right to choose” to wear a mask and expressed frustration with the order, mocking it. The hostess did not have on a mask. No one that we saw enter or exit the restaurant had on a mask. For a restaurant to ask for “open and safe designation” and then make a mockery of it is very unfortunate. Fortunately we have many other great restaurants in our area who have taken this seriously.

Found you guys via a friends recommendation. Ive lived in the area all my life and had no idea yall were over there. Had the Cowboy burger and pimento bacon mac and an order of Korean BBQ wings. I have never been more thrilled with a hamburger and wings before. My ONLY 2 issues were very minor. My burger was a BIT overdone but I attributed that to the fact that my order was delivered. Had I eaten in, it would have been as i ordered it. The only other thing I could take issue with was the fact that the Mac and cheese didnt have much pimento flavor in it. But regardless, it wasnt enough for me to drop a star. I will DEFINITELY be back again.

WOW! Wish I had tried it sooner!! The salad that came with my pizza was the perfect size so i didnt over eat or waste. Love the ranch dressing. The lobster bisque was delicious, would love some pizza dough with it but was still so good my 4 year old took it from me. The pizza was spot on, crust is my favorite. Its not over done pizza, it is perfect sie and toppings. And the crust!!!! My husband got a burger and was very happy with it. Will definitely return!

My daughter and I went this week for the first time. She ordered a beer and a pizza and I ordered a beer and a burger. I had a question about one of the beers on the menu and our waitress shrugged and said she didn’t drink beer so she wouldn’t know. Didn’t offer to ask the bartender, which would make sense if you don’t know your beer menu, right? Daughter loved her pizza and my burger and mac and cheese was “ok”

Being new to the area you have to rely on locals to suggest restaurants. Well, this one was just that and boy was I surprised. The first thing I noticed was how the server received us. It was wonderful. She immediately paid attention to my son and made him the star of our dining experience. Our waiter was sweet, attentive, knowledgeable and awesome with kids.On to the food.... the pizza was amazing! The cheese pizza was very simple but at the same time the sauce had real taste. The other pizza we ordered was The Balboa which was a Philly Cheese Steak pizza. Yep, enough said!!! Both pizzas had the perfect amount of crust, crunch and cheese. Taste was on point and the time the pizza took to get to the table was faster than expected.When we were leaving, the manager approached us to say hi and asked us how was everything and invited us to return again. Great way to end the visit. If I am going to be treated like this every single time I visit then I will be returning with my family and friends.Guys, keep up the excellent work!!!

I went for my birthday and they were so accommodating for a party of 18 and I’m in hba and we book the room and they are on point every time!! When a restaurant can not handle a large party or reservation they should avoid having crowds. To wait an hour for food that has been pre-ordered, and just as long for a check that shows up with a 20% gratuity is outrageous. I understand putting a gratuity on a large party but to assume you gave me 20 percent service is not the establishments decision. When I voiced my complaint to the manager, all I got was, I am sorry and will let the owner know.. Dont waste your time. I would not recommend to anyone. There are much better and professional establishments in the area.
I will say that the food was good. But if you are on lunch or do not have 8 hours to spend on waiting to order. Our waitress Alexa was more interested in speaking to the “regulars” then caring about whether our first experience was good. I never try to be ugly about people but just don’t!!!!

Our host name was Katherine I believe, this is the first time we had ever tried woods after bistro 127 closed down. During the pandemic, many restaurants we have called in take out, and the food just doesn’t taste the same. When u get it home, the food is soggy and not warm, taste different too than what u get in the actual restaurant itself. BUT.. I have to brag on WOODS! First time trying them today, and I have to say, they have exceeded our expectations by FAR!!! Today is also our anniversary and of course there’s not much you can do during a pandemic to celebrate. So we thought we would give woods a try. The smell of it in the car made us want to pull over and eat before we got home!! And yes we made it home lol! We had a meat lovers pizza and the fish tacos. Just the taste of the pizza had me shouting hallelujah! And the crunch of the tacos and taste, was like WHHOOO thank u Jesus!! I highly recommend this WOODS and we WILL be back!!
Went with the Fam. Food was pretty good, all were very pleased. They allow dogs on the patio, very cool. Though bring ur own water and bowl.Only reason for 4 stars, sanitation rating was 92.5. I didnt notice it until after we ate. I would have left.This goes out to every restaurant owner everywhere, In my opinion there is no excuse at a time like this, especially when youve been closed for months. To have such a poor rating.

Food wasnt cooked all the way, way over priced for the amount u get, even the fries were not good how do you even mess up fries? the drinks tasted like there is mold in there lines, have been up all night on the toilet from my meal. needless to say the place is a hard nope from me.
Best place to eat in Hickory. The food is always delicious! Brunch is my favorite meal of the day and Wood never disappoints. I also love to hang out at Bootleggers (which is attached) when I want a good Moscow Mule. The pool tables, dart boards, and jukebox are fun. Bartenders are friendly, too.

Torn on what to review. Service was great. Food was way overpriced for the food... it was all good nothing bad... nothing memorable or wonderful and we wont be returning based on the price and the food only being mediocre. :/
Today was our 2nd time trying this place. Both times the food was good and the service was slow and less than mediocre. We thought the first trip may have been an off day, but we were wrong.Our drinks (water and tea) stayed empty almost the entire time we were there, only getting refilled after we asked. Also one of the people with us asked for napkins, but ended up walking up to the bar and getting them himself after waiting for a long time.If you are looking for good food and good service, go somewhere else.
The food and atmosphere are quite excellent. We went for our first time with a Groupon, and my family and I all enjoyed it. The portion sizes and prices are just right. Our server was a super sweet young lady with a great personality. We will go again.
The wings taste great but high
So, we have been going to wood for quite a while and this used to be a 5 star review. Last night we went to Wood and, besides the service, it was awful. My wife got the pasta, which was missing the sausage and tasted completely different before. I ordered the Southern pimento cheese burger. It used to come with fried green tomatoes on it and a large dollop of pimento cheese. It also used to be a nice, large, handmade party. This burger looked like an overcooked sausage patty and came with fried pickles and fried zucchini on it. What is southern about that? I am really disappointed because this was one of our favorite restaurants. I dont know if you changed management or just dont have pride in your food, but I really hope you get it together. Management, feel free to let me know if you want to have a conversation about our experience.
10/09/2020: Unfortunately, I have to update my previous review as I can no longer recommend Wood as a great pizza place. I have loved their pizza with their thin, crispy, yummy crust for the last year. Typically, I always order the same large pie and bring the leftovers home. But today, I ordered the lunch special of a personal pizza with a salad. I have had the personal pizza before and it was just as delicious as the regular sized pies. Today, a small perfectly square pizza came out. Their previous personal pizza, was a real version of their normal sized pizzas; round with an obvious hand-shaped crust. This square thing was not hand shaped. The crust had that distinct texture and taste that you get when buying a frozen pizza from the grocery store. Kind of gummy. I asked the server what they had changed and if the crust was frozen, as it definitely was not the crust I have eaten numerous times. I could not even eat it. It was like tasteless cardboard. I told the server that Wood was one of my favorite restaurants and that this meal was a huge disappointment. She did not care. She said that she would ask in the back about the crust but when she came back with my change she did not offer any information. I had to ask her what the kitchen said about the crust and she replied he said that is our crust. I dont know if I believe that or not, but I do know I will not be eating there again. This makes me sad. Having a favorite, go-to pizza place is important to me. I also make a point to frequent non-chain, local establishments when spending my money. So this loss is a bummer all the way around. :((Previous review) My first pizza experience was lackluster. My crust was not cooked well and the pizza was kind of soggy. I was honest with the server when she asked how it was. She explained that the regular chef (who is from Italy) was off that day and was still in the process of training the guy who was working that day. I said I understood and would give them a second chance and come back again. I did not expect any compensation, but the manager took 50% off my check. Since then I have been back four times. Their pizza is great!! Nice, thin crust, great toppings and cooked perfectly. I do always ask for a crisp crust. I like my slice to stand proudly when I pick it up. :) They have a nice selection of NC craft beers and their service has always been top notch! I swear to myself I will try something different the next time I go, such as their lasagna, or one of their decadent sounding appetizers, but I always end up ordering that yummy pizza. I will be heading back to Wood in a few days. A great place!
This was my first visit to WOOD since it was Bistro 127. It was ok. It was an off time of day when we went, so it wasnt busy at all. The food was good--average, not as amazing as I remember in the past. Maybe it would have been more like it used to be if they were in the full swing of the day... I will go back and try again.

Our favorite Mexican restaurant in Hickory, NC. It has been there for along time if that tells you anything. Good food and friendly wait staff always. Go for lunch. The food will come out fast. A+

After not being here in over four years, we stopped in tonight because we saw that it was a new restaurant named Wood. Turns out that it has been rebranded from the previous Bistro 127. It has been remodeled in the bar area and the atmosphere in the restaurant was now much more enjoyable for our dinner experience. The attention and service by Rania was excellent as was the food. I was very impressed and glad that we returned to give it another try. Would highly recommend it over the other old popular standby locations farther down Hwy 127 Stop in and see for yourself.

This is my third time at this restuarant and I have been very impressed.The food is delicious, the pizza is wonderful and we ate breakfast there last week and I had the pastrami hash, what a treat. The service staff is great. I highly recommend this restuarant and will be back again soon
