If you are a rock lover you should really check this place out. There are many rocks here and a lot of petrified wood. Theres some background on where the rocks came from and how they were formed. Some extra fun is to be had exploring the rock pile fora rock to take home. It gives the experience of discovery. We would have spent longer but there were several unmasked groups which didnt feel safe in the enclosed space. Coming early may help to avoid the crowds. The staff was very nice and welcoming though.

Great place with many pieces being from the N.W..Excellent place if your a rockhound or have young rockhounds. The cave bear skull was my favorite piece but there are many different types I easily could have had 100s of favorites.Very easy access off the highway with a decent amount of parking.Hand cleaning stations throughout the buildings and lots of glass to keep hands off the pieces.

A great place in a beautiful setting and historic home, to take children as young as 5...and/or up to 85. Petrified Wood, minerals, thunder eggs, precious and semi precious rocks and stones, throw in a meteorite or 2 and you have a fascinating collection from this world and out of this world. Worth more than just a single visit...so much to see. Located just off Highway 26 on the way to the coast but be sure to make your visit separate from the one you had planned to Pacific City, Seaside or Cannon Beach. You dont want to rush or hurry as you enjoy this unique museum.Take your time, speak to the docents, who by the way, seem to really love talking with children. Walk around the grounds, stop at the gift store. There is even a rock pile where you are encouraged to take home(just one per visitor please) a little piece of our planet.

While the exhibition is amazing and even the house is worth the admission price be warned. The staff is rude and quite intolerant of kids and women apparently. Gift shop guy checking us in asked my wife if she should wait for her husband to pay. Pretty sure that mentality should have been left in the time period of the house. Then the red head lady walking around the facility kept suggesting we take our children outside. The whole reason we came was cause our children were interested in geology. This made my daughter quite sad. We will not be returning as this place, as beautiful as the exhibits are, the staff is very ugly. Unfortunate.

Im sure it is a beautiful place. Unfortunately, Im outside waiting with my boys for my husband and daughter to finish enjoying it because a lady who works here kicked my young boys out for the one with Down Syndrome being too noisy in the stroller. Were outside and she continues to give us dirty looks. Apparantly they are not inclusive at all here. We will not be returning after this, I refuse to support an organization that treats us this way.

It was a good idea to take the tour at 2pm. I learned so much about the Rice family and rock formations. I took my 3year old and besides getting caught up with the rocks outside he was eager to go through all the sections of the tour for a full two hours. His favorite part was when they put the rocks under a UV light. That was just incredible. Hold on, I’m getting a correction, he favorite part was getting to pick out a rock to take home.

This is the Smithsonian of the northwest when it comes to minerals. Precious gems, gold, diamonds, meteorites, sunstone, and so much more. There are crystals so fine they look like fur, natural agates that look like scenes from starwars and a room full of rocks that glow in the dark. There is even a map that shows where in the northwest you can find gems of your own. I highly recommend a visit to the Rice Museum of Rocks and Minerals.

This was a pretty cool place! I had some visitors from out of town and we decided to check it out because it was nearby. From the outside it didnt look that big, so I initially thought the admission price was a little high. The main museum actually has a huge basement area with more exhibits. We spent a few really enjoyable hours touring the museum. Definitely dont skip the display with the phosphorescent minerals! Strong recommendation for an educational afternoon!

Donna the tour guide was very informative and friendly. She knew all about the history of the Rice family and how their house was built and their love of rocks became a public sensation. We went on Sunday and the tour comes with admission. We just happened to arrive at two when the tour started. Im glad we went. I never wouldve learned as much had i walked through on my own. Im fascinated by rocks and this museum has quite the selection of rare and beautiful formations Ive never seen before. Good specimens of thunder egg, Oregons stage rock.Gift shop could use more selection of rocks and cook specimens to sell. They seemed low on stock and there wasnt much to choose from. Most of the rocks were basic that you get from most rock shops. I was hoping due to the wide array of museum displays thered be more unique rocks for customers to buy, being if they were serious rock collectors. But i guess the everyday clientel is mostly tourists.

Yesss!!!! I mean, I already like rocks. But let’s be honest- even if you like rocks, you may think, “looking at a bunch of rocks seems boring.” No! We were all kinds of wrong. This place has one of the best collections I’ve seen. It’s in a house (an actual house that you can also rent out for events), and each room is more impressive than the next. Sure, they’ve got some nice polished rocks they’ve set in pieces of jewelry, petrified wood, and some fossils, but that not even the exciting part. I mean- some of the colors and formations of these rocks I’ve never even seen or heard of. Wow!! You can even read more about them or ask the very knowledgeable staff. Not too far from PDX. I think it’s my second fav museum in Oregon so far. Don’t miss the dark room, and under NO circumstances miss the downstairs main exhibit!
