Acai bowls are icy, rather than blended/smooth. However, the coffee is good and wonderfully friendly staff.
Great small batch chocolate manufacturer with over 30 years of experience producing 200% Hawaiian chocolate: 100% Hawaiian grown and 100% Hawaiian processed. We took part in the farm and factory tour - interesting insights into the entire cultivation and production process in a small group of visitors and with a great guide. Definitely worth a visit.
Great tour, as soon as you figure out where it begins. They need additional signage to help if they want people to find it. Tourist guide was very informative and pleasant. Great chocolate and the owner is a hoot.
Excellent tour of the plantation as well as the Hawaiian Crown chocolate store. Highly recommend for an inexpensive and interesting tour!
So glad that we were able to have a tour of the chocolate farm and the factory! The chocolate was delicious and the tour guide was very helpful and friendly. We even got to meet the owner of the company and farm! It was so great getting to learn from him. He definitely knows what he is doing! We purchased a good bit of their chocolate as well! Definitely will purchase again in the future!
We did the chocolate tour and tasting. We visited the farm and saw the cocoa trees, the fruit taste is pretty interesting. We also saw the pineapples and bananas plantations. We liked that it was laid back and artisanal. Our guide told us some Interesting stories of the island and the chocolate. We then went back to their store in town to see the process and try some samples. We loved to support a small local company in our vacation.
Disappointed. It’s a mainly a banana farm next to a cemetery with lots of spiders and unkept land. We ended up with tons of mosquito bites. The directions were wrong on their confirmation email. Worst tour we have been on this Island. The tour guide lacked knowledge of chocolate making. The “sample” was two small pieces of chocolate. They lack sanitation when preparing chocolate. Lastly the packaging is completely unprofessional with chocolate stains inside the clear plastic that’s ready to purchase. There are too many other fantastic chocolate tours to go on and spend your money on, other than this one.
Coffee was terrible and watered down. Nice chocolates though.
The tour was very informative and the chocolate divine. Highly recommend!!
Epic tour of how cocoa beans are grown, harvested, and highly local and small batch operation in town turning into chocolate. Learned a lot, ate a lot more!
Probably the best açaí I’ve had on the island. Their coffee is also very decent and fairly priced.
This was a great place to visit for the family. Kids 5 and 9 loved it. We all loved it. The man giving the tour was well informed about all the working of the farm for both bananas and cocoa. The visit to the little cocoa shop where they turn the beans into chocolate was great. The chocolates were amazing!!! So much fun and a great way to support local shops and farms!
Great little local shop. Friendly manager who knew quite a bit about local coffee a d chocolate. Drinks and snacks were delicious!! I wish I had a way to keep the chocolates cool so I could have saved them. Easy parking and not on the busy part of the streets.
Great coffee! Great service!
Now that I haven’t been involved with the shop for several years I really miss getting spoiled with daily chocolate, fresh fruits, banana bread, smoothies, açaí bowls- all of it really!😭 Hawaiian Crown care packages are GOLD and I usually have to hide it or ration from my husband or it’ll be gone immediately. Our faves are the dried apple banana, unsalted macnuts, brewing cocoa, and the vegan coconut milk chocolate🤤🤤🤤 the other chocolate is fantastic too, but once I had that coconut milk one I was hooked!
Best chocolate ever! Small batch chocolate from their own farm! They also grow apple bananas and amazing pineapple! The farm tour is very informative and totally worth it! Love this business and love supporting them!
Very interesting tour and very friendly staff. Took the whole family with grandparents down to a 4-year-old and everybody had a good time (it helped that there was chocolate to taste!).Tom, the owner, came out to greet our group and he was also super friendly and helpful. These guys love chocolate and are very proud of their product - as they should be. Don’t miss the chocolate dipped apple bananas and if you go in for that sort of thing, the 90% dark chocolate is excellent.
What an experience! Loved learning about growing/processing cacao. Kenta is so knowledgeable about all the plants! I loved the tour of the farm, and the cozy chocolate shop with ALL the chocolate snacks. Glad we ended the tour at the shop to snag some chocolate for myself, and gifts; including a wonderful cacao tea Im now obsessed with. It smelled divine, and I cant wait to visit again.Aloha
The people couldnt be cooler and the chocolate couldnt be more delicious. This place is the true definition of 5/5 stars. If Im in Hilo, I make sure to stop here. Absolutely da bomb!
Holy guacamole. You don’t need to die to go to heaven, just go here. Get the brownie ala mode. So yum. That’s all I have To say. It’s so delicious.
We were visiting from San Diego and throughly enjoyed the tour of the farm and downtown store. The whole process from plant to store is a lot more complex than we ever thought and we have a newfound appreciation for the farmers who do it! The chocolate is great as well as they put the bean first before the sugar. We also liked that the owner, Tom, was around too as it shows he really has a passion about his farm/business!
Best chocolate I have ever had and I eat lots of chocolate!
This place was fantastic! We learned so much and really got personal with the cacao process. Would recommend to anybody.
Excellent coffee.
Unique and authentic Hawaiian experience! Extremely interesting and educational tour hosted by delightful Kenta. Fascinating to see the entire process of cacao production, especially the innovation of smaller scale farming and hear the story behind the beginning of Hawaiian Crown Plantation. Highly recommended and absolutely delicious!
Hawaiin Crown Chocolates are heaven on earth! The best & most delicious Hawaiian chocolate. Its a Mom & Pop friendly shop with chocolate bars, turtles, brownies, smoothies, delicious coffee and more.If your at Hilo farmers market, its worth the 2block walk to the chocolate shop!Their chocolate farm tour is fun, educational and in a sightseeing beautiful location.
A really cool tour of the farm including some story and history, and of course good free tastings with opportunity to buy at the shop afterward. Well done!
This was a lot of fun. Tiny place that makes great chocolate. They give you little samples, but of course you will buy something. Too yummy not to. Well be back for sure.
These guys make the most delicious and rich hot chocolate!! The plantation iced tea hits the spot on a hot day and the mocha and lava latte are outta control, great coffee mixed with the best chocolate!! Thanks for all the goodness !
Amazing!! Delicious products and lovely staff!
Tour is awesome. Very educational. Learned a lot about the chocolate making process. This is a must do tour. Worth it..
Excellent chocolate.
Cool to see cacao from tree, pod, drying, to chocolate. Wes led our tour and he was knowledgeable and very accommodating. Great tastings. Plus we bouggt some cool shirts and great locally chocolates to take home.
Great place to visit - extremely welcoming and will give you a nice run down of cacao production and different products they offer. Wouldve liked to visit the plantation but unfortunately we didnt have enough time!
Pineapple PARADISE! The pineapples from Hawaiian Crown Plantation were in the best I have ever tasted. Super juicy and sweet the flavor was a wonderful and definitely a 10/10. My good friend showed me how to easily twist the tops off for easier access to skinning the body of the fruit and speed up the best part, devouring this perfect pineapple. The dehydrated pineapple was on another level only comparable to dried Mangos. The store is locally owned and they farm their own fruit. Shipping is available but I cant wait to try out there frozen acai bowl while taking in the beach. There are some great pictures above. The only draw back would be the size is probably smaller than the 🍍 you are use to. This is poth a negative and a positive because it makes up for it in taste!
Local, high-quality ingredients! Friendly knowledgeable staff! Fun tour!
Good service. Patient and knowledge staff that explains their products well.
Aloha,Im the manager- so you know this reviews angle. We received this kudos email after our cacao & banana farm tour yesterday. We hosted University of Hilo agribusiness students & 2 guests from Pennsylvania:Congratulations! You gave a fantastic tour yesterday. You were so organized and the quality of information you provided were excellent. The students took away great appreciation of the forward looking vision of the farm. You have the personality and temperament of a great ambassador for the business.Thank you very much Wes of the great tour yesterday. Imua! (Go hardcore! in Hawaiian)
Amazing Service, Great Smoothies, A very educational talk on chocolate and the surrounding areas. Everyone should stop in for a taste.
4 stars because it really needs to be in a bigger place. The chocolate is heavenly and the staff are wonderful.
I visted Hilo last month and paid only 15$ for the H.C.coco plantation tour and got to visit the cafe as part of the tour and the chocolate was delicious! I purchased and recommend the milk choc. Or Dark choc CBD oil bar, fancy roasted macadamian nuts and the PB& chocolate drink...i was in coco heaven. The owner Tom and tour guide Kenta were great...I felt welcomed and informed. Please support this wonderful business. Magaly lopez, phila pennsylvania
A hidden gem in Hilo! Tom & his daughter, Una, are delightful people and Toms depth of knowledge about cacao & quality chocolate are inspiring. Tom loves farming and sharing his passion with others. Try kope kakao - you wont need cream in this great coffee with cacao!
Great tour with Kenta! Highly recommend!
Good tour if you are in Hilo for the day. The chocolate is great and different.
Friendly staff. Nice tastings, good coffee. Industrial atmosphere
Great shop. Cacao tea is a great thing.
Get the Acai bowl. It is amazing!
Very nice owners. Great coffee and chocolate.
Great place, delicious chocolate, very informative farm tour, nice and friendly people, very authentic feel. Go there if you are on Big Island!
Lost opportunities. Disappointing menu with few chocolate items, nothing at all creative or unique...mostly Taro Burgers and Acai Bowls!!!?? Prices are way too high. I see tourists come in and buy nothing, immediately leaving. I asked why their menu doestn offer meat and the owner told me because they have a cold kitchen license and can only offer what their license allows. This seemed strange to me and perhaps a lie...as I have had 2 commercial kitchen licenses, one for a full kitchen and one for a cold kitchen and there are absolutely no restrictions for cold kitchens not to serve meat....why not just be honest and tell the truth...that you dont want to serve meat or whatever, the lie is extremely off putting. The owner Tom also told me that he adds a commercial, non-native, yeast to ferment his chocolate and claimed that everyone does that. Frankly, thats not true, I know Malahini Chocolates use only the native microorganism present in the air and on the cacao pods. The unique microorganisms of Hawaii could make their chocolate a one-of-a-kind taste found no where else on earth. A wasted opportunity based on perhaps limited knowledge and fear. They use Organic Sugar for their chocolate bars but dont list it on the ingredients label (this is mislabeling) so I didnt buy it.....and I think many others chose not to as well because many avoid non-organic sugar. With prices like theirs, they need to understand their targeted clientele...discriminating gourmets who want natural organic ingredients...including the yeasts and micro organisms that NATURALLY occur and NATURALLY ferment the cacao, creating a unique, delicious flavor. These people are willing to pay the extra for local chocolate .... not for ONE commercial strain of yeast that outcompete and kill the multitude of different native yeasts and OTHER microorganisms. Yuck.
Taste of the true pineapple.Taste this in what sugar is not in.yammy~
The only 200% Hawaiian chocolate!Expensive though.
Excellent burger, great cocoa products and friendly staff!

The idea sounds awesome! my son and i were so excited to visit this place (never heard of it before) for smoothies and maybe bring home some treats for later. but when i walk in with all interest, recieve zero greeting, half of a word to respond to my questions, i wont be returning here. our drinks also burnt our throats really bad. every employee only stared at me and then at each other.. we were asked to wait outside immediately after transaction. i know it could have been the mask i was wearing, and this is why i wear it. where was your aloha?
Best açaí bowl in Hilo !!!
