Why does this safeway stock their shelves during peak hours so that nobody can shop? every other grocery store in the world has figured out that you should stock during non-peak hours. what is wrong with the manager of this store. do they not see people struggling to navigate around the pallets and carts littering the aisles? if you dont know what you are doing, consider calling the manager of any other store in the world and ask them for help.
Hours need to be updated for the tourist crowd like myself. Thanks for all your hard work. The store looks great. Better than most in Alaska! Good selection on snacks and healthy options. Sold out of allot of stuff but thats everywhere these days when you travel out of the big city…
Nice to have a store like this in Homer. Great quality, nice selection, reasonable prices. You will still find far better prices in Anchorage, but this is a bit of a captive market if you need a supermarket. I feel like prices have improved since they opened.
Very nice people Good prices everything very clean
Nice little supermarket. For those who may not be familiar, it is part of the Kroger family of stores. Typical supermarket with decent layout, good hours, and good selection. Especially for Alaska, where many markets are much smaller with less selection.
The five stars are for the staff, not the management. Have your employees not been tortured enough? Apparently not. First they are abused by the anti-mask people, then the summer tourists. Now, in a store already too crowded with people and carts, you have two employees pushing carts and pushing products. Seriously? Look into their eyes...they definitely are not happy with this task. If I want to know about a deal, Ill read the weekly ad.No wonder you have been short-staffed all summer. You might want to pay them more also.
Safeway in Homer AK is horrible! Half the parking lot us torn up so cant get parked and on the store till a space opens up. Prices are WAY too high and absolutely HATE the self checkouts!!! Cant even get to everything because they are stocking during the day. Boxes everywhere! Im going to go elsewhere.
First-rate grocery store! Clean store areas and bathrooms. Very courteous staff, great selections in fresh produce and meats. Homer should be proud to have this store rather than a Fred Meyer that destroys local businesses.
Aisles are to narrow, I am handicapped and use a walker, not a handicapped user friendly store.
Super helpful staff working here, really the place get just about everything in Homer
Mask Required and Staff required to disinfected surfaces between visits is a joke. They didnt care about customers coming in without masks even at the height of the pandemic, and staff are always stretched so thin that disinfecting effectively is literally impossible. If you have any moral backbone at all you need to boycott businesses like this.
Great place, wish they would open 24hrs in the summer again.
Recent parking lot upgrade is making it difficult to find any parking. We already had a parking problem before.... stupidly ridiculous now. I would boycott this place if there was another place to shop for groceries besides Save-U-More.
Drove up expecting some friendly customer service, as i haven’t been back here for a couple years. Was disappointed by the unexpectedly unposted early closing hours!Found a gas station close by that was open past 10:00pm!Summer hours, hahah yeah right!till next time-
Dude this wifi is so slow but store is good also you need bigger bathrooms
This is a very nice store in Homer, Alaska. Very friendly staff. Especially Denice at checkout.
The bottles of regular pepsi had red stripes on them, so I got one, thinking it was cherry pepsi. Not saying there is anything wrong with reg pepsi, but I was under the impression that it was cherry
I like the store just fine but hate that they cant keep bags in stock so you have something to put your groceries into since Im spend my money to buy their products
Good, but shelves were lacking stock, but that came in the next day. I guess thats the problem with transportation in Alaska.
Its nice, theres no beer in here though
Its a nice place to get groceries
Its a nice grocery store.
Great service, very clean, prices are a little bit more than Freddies, but with only 2 grocery stores to choose from, its a great place to shop
Great service, constant cleaning, and the girl at the counter was super cute.
Friendly helpful staff all through the store. Several people stopped what they were doing to help me find a product. Clean and lots of choices.
It was good and busy surprising for Tuesday a lot of people out and about staff overwhelmed with big crowds but still took care of me great
Not enough room for people to wait in line 6ft apart. I recommended they take down some less necessary aisles like holiday decorations (if youre going trick or treating this year, youre a bad person and you should feel bad) and junk food aisles and focus more on essential items to make room for people waiting in line. I complained to multiple sources and even got feedback that my concerns were noted but theres been no change since the months ago I did that. Think Safeway cares more about profit than peoples health. People constantly backed up into aisles waiting in line. Never enough cashiers. Little to no mask enforcement despite being tons of signs up. Theres floor stickers to keep people from being to close to eachother but none of the customers seem to follow it and theres no enforcement from employees about it. Havent seen employees disinfect anything in months. Seen plenty of employees either not wearing mask properly or wearing masks that have been proven not to work as well like clear face guards with no additional protection. Employees are almost impossible to get the attention of when I need help finding something. My heart genuinely goes out to the employees working here because its obvious theyre overworked and stressed. Their customers and their bosses both suck. Go to Save-U-More instead. If you absolutely have to go to Safeway go in the middle of the night on a weekday, ideally around 11pm - its practically empty and far more safe.
Good food choices and great souvenirs
Very rude worker. Wants tourism dollars then acts condescending and plain mean.
Variety is good...expensive. Carry most all of anything needed. Clean environment. They sell stamps and can send or receive money there, western union is there & a starbucks.
Friendly employees, wait times for check out can be challenging. Items run out quickly and may not be restocked for days. We are at the end of the road so this is to be expected. Prepare accordingly.
Restroom was clean, just spotted to get firewood.
My local Homer store is always out of stuff. So many shelves empty especially during promotions. Maybe it is because of covid. We moved here almost a year ago and it has been bad the entire time.
They do a good job at supplying a variety for a small town store. If you shop sales and use your safeway card deals, the prices are not to bad.
Great selectionsProduce was good
Dont expect to find anything and everything here, its not huge.
Safeway, great product, what you need!
Love this local Carrs/Safeway. No matter where we go in AK, these guys pull through. Thank you Homer Safeway for being there. I was even able to get my king salmon stamp before landing my 27 pounder!!
Sussy baka
Absolutely the worst grocery store Ive ever been to. There will be 2 cashiers working at most, and every one is so slow to check you out they almost have to try to check you out that slow. Unless you go to this Safeway at 9pm you will be waiting longer in line to check out than it takes to actually find what you want to buy. The lines are usually backed up down the isle all the way to the back of the store. What a horrible place to shop. Piss poor management.
Masks required but not enforced. Not too busy.
Terrible. The liquor dept is a disgrace.
Obviously the store is struggling.....shelves unstacked, zero enforcement on mask wearing. Overcrowded and a very unpleasant shopping experience. Much prefer Save-U-More for shopping, they care about their customers.
I liked the way they serve their customer.
This is a really good store despite its very small size. Ive even been told its the smaller outlet of all Carrs/Safeway stores in Alaska, but that its also the most profitable for the company. They keep their produce updated regularly and even in the throes of winter, they have fresh stock in the produce, dairy, bakery and meat counters every day. This one even has a fruit and salad bar, which some of the larger retailers Stateside dont even offer.Their prices are good as well. If you see a Safeway sales flyer for somewhere else in Alaska, thats the price youll pay here, too. It might cost the company a little extra in shipping costs to get goods to the end of the road, but they dont jack up the prices to recoup their expense. Its a very good business model others should consider adopting.
Good selection.
Starbucks inside. Liquor store attached. Free bulk drinking water left side front of store.
Well stocked.
In about 15 years when you finaly memorize where everything is theyll be about ready to rearrange the store again.
Flower lady was fantastic made a last minute arrangement for a friends birthday.
I dont really like it here. But I gave it an extra star after they added self checkout and remodels a bit.
The employees at homer Safeway are the finest people in town. They deserve the best recognition and the most appreciation. 10/10 experience everytime I go.
5 stars if you want to go somewhere and see a thousand people, wait in long lines behind blue haired elders sorting coupons and talk about their health. 1 star of you want to grab something quick, navigate spacious isles without crashing into things, and get out before you have to talk to 30 people.
The deli closes too early and wastes tremendous amount of good food every day when they shut down. Other Safeways in Alaska package more of deli selections and donate leftover deli food to local food banks. Apparently Homer Safeway throws it out.
Awful. So many unmasked in defiance of what the store asks, and zero enforcement. Cannot recommend.
People nice store could use little work is all.
Basic grocery store. High priced. Not enough generic.
Many times they are out of things. They like to stock shelves mid-day when the store is most busy. Their Just4You promotion only works 10% of the time. Either it cant find the product in the data base or you add it to your list and you end up not getting the discount. You can go to Customer Service, but every time?
Nice, clean, solid grocery store. One more checker on the morning would have helped with a quicker exit. The bakery didnt have a selection at 745am. Not sure if that is normal.
Great place pharmacist is the best!
It would be nice if the staff was trained on how to use their own app.
Lines are always sooo long. And no plastic bags.Idk I’ll go up the road I think.
Popped in with a friend for a couple of items on the way to work. They had everything we needed. We went through the Express lane since we only had 3 items.I complimented the cashier on her MANY silver bracelets noticing she was wearing a wrist brace also.No acknowledgement.I asked her if she had a roll of quarters (laundry) and she replied I dont carry rolls of quarters.Me: Do you think they have some at customer service? Her: I dont know. All of this transpired without her even looking at me.No smile. No have a nice day. Not pleasant.Maybe she is having a bad day but as I went to the customer service desk, where there was a very nice lady who gladly traded my $10 bill for a roll of quarters, I couldnt help noticing a stack of flyers that read something like...Now hiring friendly sales associates.Maybe someone should tell the woman at the Express Lane.
By far my worst Carrs experience EVER! Went to the Homer Carrs on Aug 4th 2020 at about 9:30pm, just arrived in town from Anchorage, it was very busy and they only had two cashiers working. I stood in line for about 10 minutes with the line building behind me, when i realized that there was a second line building down the next aisle for the same register. The people in the second line said nothing but went right in front of the line I was in, meanwhile there was no direction from the cashier whatsoever. She never asked everyone to form one line or anything. So me and another person, who was tired of waiting, went to the other open line and there at the end of the check stand was a small hand written closed sign, which we could not see from the other line. Instead of helping us, he said Im closed. I asked him if he was serious because there was onl one another line open and at least 12 ppl waiting at this point- still two different lines going for the same register. Meanwhile, I have two very ansy kids because weve been waiting so long, a couple customers left there baskets of groceries and walked out because they were tired of waiting. The 2nd cashier (at the now closed register-young man) rudely said what do you want me to do? I have to take my break and walked off, no effort to at least help get the two lines in order, so i had to get back in to one of the lines, lucky for me a customer had seen how everything was happening and let me cut in front of her. The only thing positive at the end was that the cashier that finally helped me was polite and thanked me for being patient, however she still did not speak up and straighten up the line for everyone else waiting. Horrible customer service.
They are with your stuck here in Alaska
Never enough check stands open. If they had self service units it would be easier than waiting 30-45 minutes to check out. With no competition they really should have self service or hire more staff for the front registers.
Pros, its an established brand, and major chain allowing for top to bottom shelf buying. It has a central town location making getting there simple enough. Fair selection, though I wish they paid closer attention to regional trends, versus national.Cons: parking especially during Summer months can be an absolute nightmare. The store itself is aged and needs serious upgrades, starting with the need to be bigger. Two people talking in an aisle can create major frustrations for anyone trying to get around. The small store also creates limited variety, and selection. The staff are friendly, and try their best to help, which is wonderful. I think they need better representation, either with a solid union, or a stronger benefits package.
Suss and Spoopy. The store is put together super awkward had to ask for help finding basic things.
Very nice store! They have tons of stuff but that also depends on the number of folks shopping. The store can be mobbed and depleted of goods. They have a great selection of goods and the prices are as expected.
Pretty good store, nothing fancy
We were so happy to find this Safeway! It had a great Starbucks and some supplies we needed... overall very nice store.
New layout.
Really cool staff... convenient store for all ur munchie needs!!
Good grocery store, they have everything
Homer Safeway all around good grocery store. Considerate employees. For being basically the only grocery store in town they come through with bells on 😀
As of right now, 3/11/20, there is no toilet paper due to everyone beimg scared of CODV-19. So... go get stuff somewhere else if i were you, amd dont get infected!
Safeway I like going in their cars that are 5 dozen eggs they have some good girl shes in there so its a good place to go shopping
Basics for a community or a traveller. Add 30 to 50% to any prices in the lower 48. I dont know how the locals can afford a basic grocery basket. Buy what is on sale.Store is clean enough, has decent deli, produce & fruit selection. Staff is pleasant.Parking lot is busy, potholes & large trucks/ RVs.
Bad customer service. Tried explaining to customer service the difference between potable water and portable water. I wanted potable water for my camper but was told they only put it in to water jugs. When I asked why I was told because of contamination. Contamination? If the water is contaminated then it is not potable water. No amount of filtration system on my camper could persuade them that I was going to be safe. The worst.
Good store, good savings. This location is always busy.
They have a continuous habit of not having enough checkers in the evenings and the lines can be very long. Otherwise this is a well stocked and well maintained grocery store.
The people that work here with the public are very nice but it is unorganized, crowded with boxes during peak shopping times, they run out of many things and forget or just dont restock. Not much for paleo, atkins, or items that have alternatives to pork, ie., pizza, sausages, frozen meals (also only one choice for atkins)
Everything is so fresh
NICE Safeway! Beautiful selection of fresh produce. The navel oranges are HUGE and DELICIOUS! COFFEE inside, and the staff is so helpful and friendly!
Everyone i spoke with here was very kind and helpful. Its always weird going into an unfamiliar grocery store even if its Safeway. But youll soon see all the same stuff you get at home. EXCEPT beer and wine, which is sold in the adjoining store. Alaska law, I guess.
I think they raise their prices In the summer for tourists. I have never seen such high prices.
Little expensive
Absolutely worst safety issue in town is the water spigot outside Safeway. Many people rely on this access but is so hazardess its unbelievable! Manager on staff at 835pm Mon was unsympathetic and reluctant to offer help oWill write local paper and radio untill it is safeabit wvipq, zzh is very unfor
For me, Safeway is like a community center. Its the place where you run into old friends and catch up on the old gossip.😊 Strangers are friendly and will assist anybody if help is needed. I love the place.
Good
Im used to Carrs Safeway up in the Anchorage area, but this store had everything I needed.
It is one of two in town. Save you more is the only other one. They stopped carrying a lot of useful things so dont expect them to have what you need.
Can get extremely busy in the summer time and long lines, but most of the employees will do the best they can. One elderly lady working there gave me a discount because I left my club card in my car. And another man ran through the parking lot looking for a customer who forgot his groceries.
This an excellent well stocked vibrant supermarket with a real buzz about it .Plenty of value oportunities and pleasant staff
For our area at the end of the road, this Safeway has most to offer. If u cant find it here there are 2 more Safeway/Carrs stores up the road about 70miles.
Great store when every I go there they have what I need
