I live over an hour & a half away& havent been In awhile but today I was in the area & decided to stop by & the amazing customer service from the moment I walked in till I checked out was amazing & reminded me why I loved coming here so much when I lived in Houston. Angel was the sweetest person, he truly listened to me & what I needed & recommended some great lenses & gave me some great advice also. Even after when I was just looking at other items he asked how I was doing & just to let him know if I needed anything else. The girls at the front check out where also great & gave me more pointers on the lense I was buying. I definitely left a happy customer & will definitely make sure I come back soon.

Best source of your photographic needs in Houston area. Still one of the only places you can go in to and hold a camera or check out the equipment and buy. (Cant do that on Amazon.) Best and most knowledgeable help from actual photographers as well. Will always keep my business local when I can.

They let me look at the camera, hold it, and try out lenses as well as gave me some good recommendations for lenses that would be good for all-purpose and we tried out a macro lens too. This used to be a great place but it has started to go down hill. Some of the staff does not seem very knowledgeable on what they’re selling and/or even what they have in stock. Looks to me like a very sales before customer service environment. Not to mention how overpriced some items are. Wouldn’t go back unless it’s an emergency.

Went in to buy a used camera, had a great experience. An employee, Reeve, helped me pick out an appropriate body + lens as well as a good case and cleaning accessories. He was patient and answered all of my questions. Will definitely be back again when I need a new lens or other accesories!

This place is a Houston institution. That said, they are going to have to get their act together if they want to stay relevant. If you are trading in used gear expect to get a fraction of its value. Selection on newer gear is sparse. Great values to be had on well maintained used gear.

These people are so knowledge you would not even believe it. They know their equipment from first hand experience and many years of practice. I had lots of questions coming in and they answered it and gave me more info that has proved to be useful. I would definitely check it out if youre looking for camera equipment.

Went for the new Nikon Z series premier event. There were salespeople with camera equipment and answers to questions. There was wine and cheese and meat and fruit trays. They were giving away Nikon baseball caps and T-shirts. A nice bunch of camera aficionados came.Houston Camera Exchange is almost the only real camera exchange store left in Houston. They may not repair cameras, but can name sources that do. They have an interesting camera collection and friendly, helpful staff.They are geared to the serious camera lover, so I had to get my purse-like camera case elsewhere. They dont do free foto walks like Fort Worth Camera does, but they have suggested photo groups that do.They have been in Houston decades and is considered Texas’ premier photographic source. They are the largest photographic facility in town. They offer old and new cameras, darkroom supplies, photo gear, lights & printers. I may not use all that, but it is fun to wander the store.

Purchased a Leica table top tripod sight unseen described as good quality for half the usual price. They should have said flawless--cant find any damage to it anywhere. Shipped almost immediately and they wrote a nice card (also included a little model airplane). Never leave reviews but after reading all the good ones, I took a chance on Houston Camera Exchange and couldnt be happier.

Note: Due to the Covid concerns, I had to call Houston Camera Exchange and make an appointment. No walk ins. So call them before you go.

Staff is pretty professional and have great knowledge of their products. They guided me for what I needed. The only thing I didnt like was that things were comparatively expensive. Same items were far cheaper online.

Found an old vintage camera and called these guys and they were very fair and transparent and bought the camera from me and made a good deal. Believe it or not Bernie that works there gave me some good medical advise as well. (Hes not changing careers just yet). Check them out, they are really knowliand good people.

For advise on photo equipment Houston Camera Exchange is terrific. They have a sincere and knowledgeable staff. I’ve been going here for years and recognize that many employees have worked at the store for over 10 years. They must treat their employees well... that says a lot. If you need help they have answers and fair prices. It’s a great value. We are lucky to have them in Houston.

Very helpful in these C-19 times. Store not open to walk-in browsing or sales. Must call ahead for an appointment to get in the store. Sales are handled by calling in with your order and then staff will bring out to you and collect payment. All explained much better on their website, check it out for updates to the sales process. I was in the market to upgrade my camera for photography, and rather than purchasing from Amazon or Best Buy my husband talked me into driving to Houston to check out Houston Camera Exchange. Let me tell you, it was well worth the trip in the car with our four kids. Bernie has been wonderful and went above and beyond for us. He never tried to up or over sell us. We had all of our questions answered, and he even answered some questions we didnt know we needed to ask. I have recommended anyone Ive talked to they need to make their next camera purchase here.

Im newer to photography, so I called to see what lenses they had available for my Canon. I spoke with Angel and he was amazingly helpful! He didnt just tell me, yeah, we have some lenses....he actually cared enough to ask what Im photographing and gave me a lot of information on what different lenses are used for. We love Houston Camera Exchange, .. they have an extensive array of camera bodies, lenses and tons of used gear, and vintage camera stuff. Lots of flashes and lighting .. even a beautiful lighting truss grid. They have a huge selection of photo background, paper in different sizes. Pelican cases, and super helpful staff !! .. I wish this place was closer to my house, Im about an hour away, .. but then Id probably go more often, and spend more money.One huge point **** YOU NEED TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT TO GO TO THE STORE***Because of the Covid pandemic they are seriously limiting access to the store and exposure. Masks are absolutely required, .. and only a few people at at time! CALL and make an appointment for whatever you need from this amazing store.

Ill drive the extra mile for great customer service and knowledgeable staff when it comes to cameras and equipment. The staff is always helpful and patient, especially now when they have had to put policies in place during Covid-19. They definitely are not about just selling you something you feel you need. Extremely poorly thought out policy regarding letting customers in. I had one spare hour to run to camera exchange to get what I needed before an event, get to the front door and there’s a large sign saying the showroom is closed to customers and you’ll not be let in unless you’ve made a prior appointment. Several people turning up at the same time and getting turned away. If you’re terrified of covid install hand sanitizing stations and wear masks like everyone else. You’re running customers off with the limited amount of time they have to get what they need and not advertising your policy anywhere.

This is the worst shop for my hobby I have came across. I had visited this store several times and got the same bad feelings. I even bought new lenses for my camera there and still remember my satisfaction experience. The relation to the customers here like in the third economic country store. You will not find yourself being like in California Camera store and definitely far away from B&H New York store. It even worst than my impressions from Beijing Camera store.

Amazing customer service and good prices!I got a great deal on an uncommon vintage lens here. It was beat up on the outside, but had pristine optics. Sellers on eBay were asking 30-40% more (plus shipping) for examples in good exterior condition but with haze and fungus inside.And the staff, who were friendly and professional, went above and beyond to help me with the entire transaction.

Heads up.. you need to make an appointment and their showroom is not open. I drove up there knowing I wanted to buy a Sony A7III and needed a macro lens, but had some questions on which one to buy. They wouldn’t let me in to even buy the camera without an appointment. I get it’s Covid time, but I was one of two cars I. The parking lot. I like to support small local businesses, but now I’m heading to bestbuy.

There are many kinds of accessories and the price is expensive.It is recommended that low-price products be sold for students and people in financial difficulties.

Welcoming staff, wonderful sandwiches.There were issues with the soda dispenser:Diet Coke & Caffeine Free Diet Coke both spit & had too much carbonation.Fanta Orange spit syrup all over the inside of the dispenser.Regardless well be going back...GOOD sandwiches!

I ordered a used Nikon D610 with a 50mm 1.8 and I am impressed with the great quality. There was a little trouble to order online on their website which they quickly fix and although when I got my camera, the battery of the camera was forgotten to be packed, but they quickly shipped it and got it the next day. Great customer service, professional and will continue to buy my equipment with them.

Extremely knowledgeable staff and helpful. My only issue is that you feel rushed to make a decision. I do get the sense that they have little patience for novices. I understand since it’s not Best Buy and these are pros who actually use the cameras. It’s always packed so I guess I need to find a better time to visit other than Fridays and Saturdays.

I went in for my first time today and was impressed. Service was appropriate given how busy they were and the employee who helped me seemed pretty knowledgeable. Came to the store because i was excited to come explore for the very first time. as soon as i opened the door, this black/red ish hair big lady literally attacked and pushed me outside the door while telling me that the store was not open and to give them a call and they would come outside and closed the door right at my face. got a 1 second peak of the place and got rudely kicked out after. acting like they were trying to hide something. i understand the rules, and i understand its covid, but it was very rude the pushing and the door slam in front of my face. very unprofessional and super rude once again. that is NOT how you treat customers (especially first timers) and that is NOT how you tell a customer that the place is closed. never coming here again. sad that the one camera store in houston has unfriendly staff. please do better. thank you.

Went here for advice on a new DSLR and wound up getting advice for those that I initially hadnt thought about. Gave me food for thought and wound up buying a camera I initially didnt even consider and have been absolutely thrilled!The staff is extremely knowledgeable, the store is comprehensive in their selection that any (budding) photo geek will have a perfect place for equipment, supplies, and advice. I look forward to visiting this place for many years.

I love Houston Camera Exchange. They have almost anything you could want. They are a bit of a drive from Katy (where I live) but well worth the trip if I need something that only a pro photography store offers and you dont want to wait for an online purchase delivery.In my mind they are the only game in town...which is kind of sad...not for them but for us. That said I am glad they are here.I will be back again. Great staff, great selection and reasonable prices.

I mostly just buy seamless paper here, but theyve always been great for that! Always super helpful and nice to chat with. Grateful for something close that sells seamless so I can see it in person and dont have to buy it online.

The employee wasnt as warm as if like her to be. She just kept asking what is your budget and only brought the camera for me to see.

I dont think Ive ever bought anything here. Ive gone a few times ready to spend money on some stuff I want but I just cant justify spending so much when I know online retailers have it way way cheaper. I guess theres a reason theres only one camera store in the whole city.They have a nice variety of things though, and the staff has always been friendly, but like I said, most of the time I go to window shop.

These guys were really great! I was having trouble with the focus on my Samsung alpha1000 DSLR camera and brought it in for repair. The guy that helped me spent a lot of time working on it to see if there was a simple fix. There wasnt so he did a factory reset. It worked! I was thrilled and will definitely go back. I lost the guys card but hopefully he will read this and accept my big THANK YOU!!!
