The store has all the essential hardware items you might need. Plumbing, electrical, paint, garden supplies, and about everything else. It’s an old school hardware store that even has a large pocket knife display case with real knives for sale.Prices were reasonable and service was excellent. Highly recommended.

You know, it’s surprising to find a small town hardware store in the middle of the metropolis that is Houston. These folks were great. I had a small issue that I just couldn’t fix on my own and no fewer than four people added to helping me in my situation. Southland (Do It Best) Hardware on Westheimer is one of my favorite independently owned hardware stores in Houston.I really like their selection of pocket knives. They have a wide range of products for all the building trades. You can buy 1/4 pound of nails without having to buy a whole one pound box. They sell chain by the foot. There is a sharpening service for saws, knives, garden tools, scissors, etc.Prices are reasonable. You can walk into the store and find what you need in a few minutes without having to walk a mile. Store associates are friendly, knowledgeable and helpful.

You name it, theyve got it. A true one stop shopping experience. I was in a big hurry, went in, asked for what I needed and a gentleman led me straight to it. Will be using this hardware store again when Im in this area.

Have shopped at Southland for some 30 years. Go there three or more times per month. They most always have what I am looking for. The staff have always been a bit surly and not really customer friendly. Today was a good example. I selected an item from the shelf, compared the price, product description and number with found on the shelf label with the product. Everything matched until check out. The price at the register was $5.00 more than the shelf price. I reported the difference and was told in a condescending, approaching rude, fashion that I was wrong. There was no effort to check the shelf label. Instead I was dismissed implying I was not being truthful. I would have expected there would have been an effort to st least check, and either remove the shelf price or correct the problem. I am willing to pay the correct price, but just check to see which was the correct price. I try to give local merchants my business, however, it seems to be more difficult giving local merchants business. I have more and more begun using Amazon and after today I would prefer using Amazon instead of face rudeness or unclear pricing.

If I could give this place 6 stars, I would! The staff is awesome, the place has pretty much everything, and the lines are always reasonable.I’ve read a lot of bad stuff about the front counter staff, the truth of the matter is, if you’re nice to them, they are nice to you. By the same token, if you’re going to be rude, they, specifically one, will call you on your attitude and put you in your place.That one lady is my favorite and watching her put those entitled, rude, obnoxious, customers in their place always puts a giant smile on my face.Love the store and hope to continue shopping here for a very long time.

Southland Hardware has unbeatable selection and variety in every department. My go to spot for interesting hardware for Art/Diy Projects. But please calibrate or clean the key duplicator!

Southland advertises that you can find many things there - the key there is in y-o-u. They are NOT helpful. There were three people in the front, and I asked them all where I could find a replacement for the part I brought in — a simple pointing and “in the back” was all I got. Almost zero effort on their part. I did not find the part, but the folks at U-Plumb-It were very helpful as an alternative.

I just left Southland Hardware, Holy Cow! I came in for jig-saw blades and left with a few other things I didn’t expect to find. I moved into an old house with the old crystal-knob door latches with the skeleton key locks. They have NEW, in the package replacements. My 10 minute trip turned into a 45 minute browse, if they don’t have what you’re looking for, you’d be hard-pressed to find it anywhere. It is totally worth your while to check them out.

I don’t usually review places, but Southland is really a gem in the Montrose area for so many reasons! First off, they pretty much have any and every thing you need. Besides having such helpful and knowledgeable employees, I really enjoy the uniqueness of this locally family owned hardware store. You can always find something you thought you weren’t looking for!

For the last 13 years or so, Southland is the only place I will go to purchase anything they stock! I find I need something there at least once a week. Supporting a local store is really important to me, and Southland goes above and beyond to provide a practical inventory. Its incredible that they can get so much in their space and track it all, and its the only hardware store around that stocks replacement parts for such things as plumbing fixtures without making you buy a kit of mostly unneeded parts. The staff are quite knowledgeable as to item location and helping you get what you need. I love all the folks there, old and new. Theyve talked me through many projects and helped me find picky little items countless times. Getting Liz to crack a smile is the high point of my day! I just adore her. This place is an institution. Free popcorn, like any good hardware store should have. Its okay. Prices are higher, but its convenient.I wouldnt buy wood or plywood there. What they have in stock is lower quality and higher price when compared to big box stores... I went there to get a couple of large pieces of plywood to finish a project and was very disappointed with what I bought from them, I was also charged incorrectly and only figured out when I got home.

Recently they have hired a few people more dedicated to collecting a check than keeping the store. They arent very helpful, and dont feel the shelves organized/stocked. Otherwise, this has been the Montrose hardware store for ever.

This isn’t our local hardware, but we treat it as such. They have just about anything you’d go to a hardware store for and prices are pretty on par with the bigger establishments (including amazon). Gets a little crowded pretty easily, but don’t all good places?

Convenient location inside the loop. Dont let the size fool you, they have a great selection of products and services. Its a very quaint, old-fashioned, charming, mom and pop type of place with a helpful staff. Highly recommended.

I went to Southland Hardware this morning thinking I needed to buy a new weed eater. Dave opened it up and replaced the string, and voila the weed eater is working again. There was no way I was going to be able to open the weed eater. It had the string so jammed in, it was impossible to open it. However, Dave, who is built like a Viking, was able to fix it. I purchased new string for the weed eater. I am so happy to have Southland Hardware near my house. They can answer a lot of your questions and/or always can direct you towards the right path. Thank you Dave!

They really do have everything! I may never need to go back to Home Depot. The staff was extremely helpful, which was a big time saver. I found everything on my list in under 5 minutes. We are lucky to have this great store in the neighborhood.

Their variety of inventory is incredible considering it’s a small, traditional store vs. a huge box store. If you’re in the area and need a few things, you should definitely give them a try.

The guy who helped me find my materials and figure out the job was excellent. In sharp contrast was the excuseless belligerence of the arrogant witch at checkout.Only one simple job and every single person at Home Depot surpasses her at it. Be courteous to the customers. It is demoralizing to see people like that getting paid for disservice. Unfair to everyone involved including ownership, her coworkers, and the public.It was the middle aged one with brown hair. Watch out for her.

I came in for a drain snake, Pine-Sol, and cleaning vinegar. I was not disappointed.As weird as it sounds, I had a great time at this hardware store. The staff exceeds hardware store expectations, and the selection is incredible. I could spend hours browsing. Next time I need some kind of home item, Im checking for it here first.

My neighbor hardware store for about 30 years now, Southland has just about everything that you might need. When going to a big box stores just doesnt fit into your plans, Southland is a good option. Their pricing is a bit higher, but sometimes its worth paying a little extra for the convenience. Customer service is sometimes hit or miss here. Sometimes you can get really friendly/helpful people and other times unhelpful/rude.

I enjoy going to smaller hardware stores as I think they typically have more knowledgeable staff. I went in today with some yellow grass spot concerns and was immediately taken care of. The guy that helped me seemed very knowledgeable about my issue and what I needed to do/get in order to fix it.Theyre also my go to place for getting household items (light bulbs, paint, etc.) and keys copied as they are always helpful and ready.

Whether I have something in mind that I need or not, I just go to this store and get everything I need. Quite good!

Literally has almost anything you need for DIY. Back in uptown New Orleans there is Harrys Ace Hardware where you can go for most hardware needs. This is a bigger version. Like being home again. Much quicker in and out and personal service than the big box stores. Good prices. Wish we lived closer.

Southland has been my go to place for years. The staff is helpful and smart. They can save you from a multiple trip project. Theyre not the cheapest hardware store, but theyre trustworthy and have a lot more items than you can imagine. Plus popcorn!

I was in your store over the weekend 01/12/19. I prefer to shop here because I live in the neighborhood and I can find things quickly. I was picking up parts in the plumbing section. A man had politely asked for assistance. The salesperson obliged and the gentleman turned and headed to the register. The salesperson walked back in the same isle and flipped the guy off with his middle finger. The customer did not see it but I did. I gotta tell you I can’t condone this behavior. If the salesperson is so unhappy about his work he should quit. If I see it again I will I’ll record it and post to social media.

Its so great to have a place like Southland in the neighborhood. They always come in clutch for whatever random item I need. Super long ladder? One weirdly sized screw for the shower handle? Giant bucket? Candelabra bulbs? Bird feeder? Window squeegee? Check, check, check, check. Southland has never let me down! Plus, the prices are reasonable and the staff is wonderfully helpful.

Southland Hardware store...I give it 5 stars because this store has dang near any and everything you might want to ever need as hardware goes. The prices are about in line with the big box stores but you get personal service. The employees are very interested in helping you and they have the best management in the industry, well it seems like they do. I didnt know this place existed until I moved back into town from the suburbs. And holy cow, its a gem. I walk over there probably twice a week and can always find exactly what I need. The staff has always been super friendly and helpful too.

Not going back, except possibly to return the wrong size fitting the clerk selected to match the cable he cut for me. Depends on how bad I want the $6.87 plus tax back.The store is a dump and cluttered. Im disabled and in a wheelchair, between narrow aisles and merchandise stored in the wider ones, could barely get around.The clerks try to be helpful but if you dont know the products, what good is trying?

The old hag cash register lady was one of the rudest people I encountered in a long time gave her a big Bill $ and I ate a lecture about it totally not nice totally not nicer customers doesnt look like she wants to be there perhaps is menopause

SUPER Friendly and helpful staff. They really do and “almost” everything. My favourite go to guy is Matt - very knowledgeable about almost any DIY home or auto project I throw at him. There’s a popcorn machine in store where you can grab a bit while you shop. Don’s let the cluttered appearance and narrow aisles fool you, this place is really well laid out! I was about to navigate like a breeze by my second time in. Not only is Southland my favourite Hardware store, I’d say it’s my favourite store. Period!
