I have been looking for some specific lighting for the rebuild of our home that was involved in a fire. I was so excited about finding some special lighting that I wanted for the front foyer and the rest of the house. I just know that this Plantation Lighting would have something that we were looking for. They had a lot of lighting options and our builder suggested that we stop in here. My wife and I were there when they opened the door. I dont know what went wrong. I drew a picture of the light I was looking for. One of the women went to look through a catalog and had me come look at what she had found. It was noting like what I asked for. From there she was condescending to me and it went downhill from there. According to her, what we wanted was not appropriate for the home we were building. We talked about ordering and timing. They both started arguing with me that I would not be ready for lights for another month or so. Did not make sense to me why someone would argue with a customer. Must have woke up on the wrong side of the bed Saturday morning. What a bust. My wife walked out of there disappointed. I would suggest you try but the minute they try to sell you something totally different than what you want, I would walk out. And by the way, my builder says that I should be ready to hang lights in about 2.5 weeks.

Even with reading the reviews of past customers, we still went there for our custom house being built on the north side of Lake Norman. Our experience there was nothing less than spectacular. The designers there spent over 8 hrs with us 4 different days to make sure we got what we wanted and the lighting went with the flow of our house. We have not regretted our decision at all. This place specializes in custom design. The more info we gave them about ceiling height, counter measurements, colors of wall and furniture made it easier to target what would work. I feel these other customers on these past reviews just didnt take the initiative to make sure the designers could give them what they wanted or needed. I have since recommended 4 of my co-workers to go there and they have had the same experience. I will be returning to have them do all the custom design for my beach house when the construction starts here in the spring.

Buyer Beware - Had stopped by this store many times looking for foyer lights and finally ordered based on one of their designers recommendations for size and finish. I expressed my concern about ordering from catalog but was reassured that finish would be similar to a similar chandeliers hanging in showroom. I did think the price was low. The lights came in and are too small for space and metals are cheap. The two-toned look is horrible compared to what was hanging and dont meet my expectations. Today when I called, the same designer tells me I can’t return and that she told me that. She never mentioned that they were un-returnable. I would not have ordered if that was the case. I was expecting to pay a restock fee but not be able to return. Very dissatisfied.

We were in the market to buy a couple of thousand dollars worth of lighting and were completely turned off by what we thought was the owner. We asked if we could bring something back of it didnt work and she became irate and eventually told us to just go. We have bought other things from the store in the past, and been helped by other, professional and pleasant people. We will never go in there again. Too many lighting stores will welcome our business to put up with that kind of treatment.

My husband and I recently built a custom house on Lake Norman. We worked with Marsha at Plantation Lighting and purchased all our lights from them. Marsha did an excellent job helping me select the best lighting fixtures for our house. She was very knowledgeable and helped me find just the right lights. She also helped identify similiar lights at lower costs to help me manage the budget. Marsha was very flexible and her husband even came out after we had moved in to add lighting fixtures to some of our ceiling fans. I would highly recommend Plantation Lighting and Marsha for all your lighting needs.

Horrible customer service. Was told to “get out” of the store after the owner would not stop arguing with me about a return.I purchased a chandelier 3 days ago and asked about the return policy and was told it can be returned 3 days after purchase as long as the chain was not cut. After hanging the chandelier, we unfortunately found it to be too large for our space so I took it back to the store today.I dealt with the same lady for the return and she was clearly unhappy that I was returning it and was getting more irate the longer I was there. After crediting back my account, she saw that the wiring had been cut and became very angry. She said she couldn’t take it back because the wire had been cut. I reminded her that she specifically told me the chain couldn’t be cut and didn’t mention the wire when I inquired about the returns. She said “common sense” should tell me that when cutting the wires, the length of the chain will no longer work. Instead of arguing with her, I told her to go ahead and charge my credit card back for the chandelier and I would use it in another part of my home. To my surprise, she continued to argue with me about cutting the wires and how the chandelier was now “trash” even after I offered to keep and pay again for the chandelier.After continuing to argue with me, she told me to take my credit and get out. As others have said, very unprofessional and cannot believe they can stay in business treating people this way.

First of all I need to say upfront honesty and customer service is very important to my husband and myself. When we went to the store the customer service was very good and we purchased two light fixtures that had to be ordered. We were told that it would take two weeks or more which was no problem. We were called this week to pick up the bathroom light fixtures, here is my issue. When I got the lamps home I opened the boxes and found that one was professionally packed and the other was not. The light fixture that was not professionally packed was not in its plastic and bubble wrap was on top of the fixture. I noticed that the wires did not have a protective cap on them and looked used. When I called to ask about it I was told that yes it was the floor model because the light fixtures were on back order and only one came in. I asked why they didn’t let me know that and be upfront and say ...only one of your light fixture came in however we can give you the floor model if that’s OK with you because the other one will not be here till August. However I was not told that. I was shocked when I opened the boxes to see that one was “used” I called and asked several questions about why it looked like one had been used. Of course when I asked if I could get a discount since the fixture had been used I was told that it was not “used” since it was model from the store. I did not argue with the women on the phone-however it is a “used”light fixture, in my mind, because it was attached on a circuit so the lights could come on. Which was demonstrated to my husband and I when we first came to the store. I guess I don’t understand why they were not up front to begin with and give me the option of whether I wanted to wait for the new one to arrive. Their dishonesty makes me question would it take till August for the new light fixture to arrive? Or did they just say that? Again, it is not that it cannot be used it’s the fact that they weren’t upfront and gave me a used light fixture which I paid full price for. Absolutely horrible service. We have a new house and need about $5000 worth of lighting. We walked in 10 minutes until closing and sone grumpy old lady said sorry we are closed. In a very rude tone. Seriously!? I will take all my business to Lowes. How does a place like this stay in business?

I too had a bad experience with the owner. We made a sizable purchase on a Saturday, then on Monday asked if we could cancel two of the items as we had changed our mind. We were told that once an order is placed it cannot be cancelled. We also purchased a lamp off the floor and specifically asked the salesperson if we could return it if it didnt work in our home. We were told we could return the lamp for a store credit. Today the owner told me that the lamp could not be returned because the shade was unwrapped. We were told nothing about unwrapped shades when we originally asked about returns. If I could rate this business ZERO stars for customer service I would.
