They had my Cylinder heads rebuilt in 1 day. They also bored my engine block. Installed cam bearings and freeze plugs. It was ready in 2 days and looked great. Ill be back

The best place to get your car heads done

All the guys there at Southern Cylinder Head are Great and do a fine job with anything you bring to have done.

Have taken numerous heads to them for rebuilding from 4 cylinders to a head off a Maserati with a Ferrari v8 and even heads off air-cooled Kohler lawn mower and diesel heads never had a problem with any of them and usually got them back by next day. Pricing was always fine with me you get what you pay for. Will continue to use them and recommend them to others.

Charged 260.00 per hour to clean/ resurface heads, fit valve stem seals. Thats twice as much as this market charges. Example-Mikes machine and performance/builds race stuff as well as passenger vehicle engines. I called offering the opportunity to correct this mistake. Was told it sounds about right, 520.00 for resurface and fitting stem seals. Nothing fair or reasonable with their pricing. I even took the camshafts out myself, due to prior experience of one being broke with no responsibility taken. Attached is pricing from a professional machine shop in Alabama. Treating another small business with such unprofessionalism and obscene pricing is shameful to say it nicely.

Dropped off a flywheel for a JD 1020 and received a call less than an hour later that it was ready to pick up. And yes it was machined right.

Dropped a head for a resurface job and have a broken bolt removed and retapped. These guys were fast, and I feel very competitively priced. Dropped off around 10am, picked it up around 1pm the same day.Thanks guys for the fast turn around.

We talked about prices for all the machine work on my motor. didn’t ask for the motor to be assembled just worked and whenever the motor got dropped off he had assembled the motor after we discussed not doing it and then he charged me more because he assembled it and i never asked for that. didn’t replace some parts that were discussed prior to sending motor. unsatisfied and will not bring any motors back to him.

Have had several cylinder heads worked on as well as several flywheels resurfaced. They have done a great job on all of them and prices have always been what they quoted to begin with. Their equipment and tooling seems to be up to date and sharp, which is important in late model engine machine work.Edit: I recently had to quit using southern cylinder head due to Shawn increasing his prices 300%. Its hard to run an automotive repair business when one of your contractors you rely on is so flaky.

Brought my 6.0L LS heads in to be freshened up and they came out looking brand new. One day turn around was awesome.

They pressure tested both cylinder heads. after repairing one head they said both heads were good, but were not. had to disassemble the engine twice due to cracked cylinder heads after one was fixed & the other was suppose to be good. The company was not willing to help us with gaskets or bolts during this process.

Absolutely garbage machine shop. I had them build a short block with highend parts weisco pistons. Eagle rods. ARP rod bolts. ARP main studs. Race bearings etc. got less than 600 miles on break in and it spun a bearing!!! They don’t torque down to specs. Will never use again I’m out 2200.00 in parts and labor. DO NOT use this machine shop! They don’t stand behind their work!

Needed a stubborn wheel bearing pressed out of a knuckle and a new bearing and hub pressed in. No nonsense, lower than anticipated price, and properly installed within the hour.They were recommended to me by the Mazda dealer, and Ill be recommending them to others for their machine shop needs.Edited 4.12.16 - they failed abysmally on a valve seal replacement for a friends MZR (Mazdaspeed) engine - finger tight crows feet on the injector seals, using RTV on the intake manifold to head (literally a zero failure point they decided was a problem) and NO injector seal gaskets. This is juvenile fail at best. Ill just glaze over the fact they put mismatched and improperly gapped plugs (one of which was cracked) back in the car, causing spark blowout on a boosted car. Take your basic machine work to these guys, but dont let them touch your head.
