Is it just me or are there online prices better? I try to find an excuse to visit this wonderful art supply store whenever I can. They have everything I need for art supplies from specialty paper, paint of almost every kind, markers, pencils, drafting tools, art books, custom framing.Their prices are competitive with other places I shop online but being able to see the products in person is worth the drive for me.The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and for people waiting to explore new things this is very important.

I brought my sister and her bf all the time way out here from over an hour away to buy some stuff for their new airbrush shop in the Quad Cities and we were followed around by a older white gentlemen the whole time. Were black and It was obvious they though the we were going to steal stuff but little did they know we were looking to spend $300+ in their shop. We ended up leaving without buying anything because the harassment was so blatantly obvious. I highly recommend no shopping here... Whether your African American or not, discrimination shouldnt be tolerated, especially in Iowa city.

A great variety of art products from basic and affordable to specialized and pricey.

Only place within miles I could find oragami paper! And ended up spending half an hour dreaming if next project with all the various paints, markers and soooo much more!

And they are willing to help customers out at every turn. Especially the manager, Jan, who is an absolute gem. She goes out of her way to help me! This is the absolute best fine arts store I have ever been to. I went while we were visiting Iowa. I really wish we had a Blick in Arkansas. They have an amazing selection of art supplies with everything you can imagine plus things I never knew existed. Fantastic store. Loved the shopping experience. I could go broke there easily.

Great selection, helpful people, expensive but quality products

Blick has everything you could need for almost any art and craft. There are frequent sales on printing and framing, and the staff here are uniformly friendly, knowledgeable, and very skilled artists besides. Probably THE spot to get supplies if youre a student, and a great place to walk through with your creative kiddos.There are classes and workshops offered fairly often, with guest artists and community events rounding out the schedule.

I had three ammonites (shell fossils) that I wanted framed. The individual that helped me at the store carefully listened to how I wanted things to look and was very helpful picking out a nice frame and background. I am extremely pleased with the end result and it is hanging in my living room where I often look at it. Highly recommend Blick for custom framing jobs.

Listen I know I look kinda sketchy sometimes; long hair in my face, tall, wide/big build. But, you dont need to stare at me and follow me through the store. I come here all the time and almost always I get followed. Besides that I love this store. Everything I need is usually in stock. The membership program saves me money almost every purchase. Employees are informed and are nice once they figure out you arent there to steal.

They have professional art materials in stock and at a reasonable price. I drive from 30 minutes away to come to Dick Block because my larger city only has craft and hobby stores. You can find hobby level materials here too, though even those are of a richer variety.

A great store to get name brand art supplies from. Ive been buying from them for 20 years (online and in store). I know you can get stuff cheaper on Amazon most of the time. I still highly recommend Blick.

Blick art supplies in downtown Iowa City is the bomb. In addition to art supplies, they also have a wonderful selection of unique gifting items. Somehow whenever i go there, it seems like the right time to treat myself. And the staff? Friendly, helpful, knowledgeable. Score!!

I had gone here to look for supplies to make my own T-shirt screen print. I had gone to many different stores before this one and I wish I had just gone here first. They had everything I needed and then some. I was very pleased with their selection and definitely will return for my niche crafting needs in the future.

I have never been in a Blick Art store that wasnt staffed by the friendliest and most knowledgeable employees in retail. They really know their stuff, and Blick has absolutely everything I need for my creative life. The Iowa City store is huge, clean, fully-stocked and ready to serve.

Good for supplies that you need right away.. Some of the paints I have bought are old as they were separated when I bought them.. Other wise no complaints...

They always have quality products for the projects I want to do.

They have a large selection of paints, papers, and pencils, as well as some small art kits. I was looking for paints to use on glass, and the lady was very helpful, showing me the correct place and telling me how to use them correctly. Overall, a good place to look for art materials. But if youre looking for craft materials, I would suggest looking elsewhere.

Great place to get art and craft supplies! Tons of paint and fancy papers! Very helpful staff. If you need something they will help you find it but it is also a great place to browse and find inspiration. They also offer framing.

Everyone is super friendly and helpful. If you have any questions about art materials, almost always someone in the store has used it and can give you recommendations based on experience.Plus there is always a decent selection of most items, so you arent stuck with a single brand of anything.Favorite art store ever, I highly recommend them.

Blicks employees are really exceptionally knowledgeable about all of the art materials available in store and beyond. They are both interested in your artistic vision and motivated to help you understand which materials would help achieve it best. Ive not been to a better art store.

As far as an art store goes the Iowa City Blick is what you want in an art store. Its bigger than most and is not cramped because of the size. What impressed me the most was the service. All of the staff seemed to be staying busy even when not taking care of a customer. While we were checking out the woman waiting on us (Emily or Amelia?-I wish I could remember her name) was SPLENDID. She was very busy at the time yet when we got up to her she literally went out of her way for us. The nicer we were to her the nicer she was to us. It is because of her I will be a regular here for sure. She bent over backwards to take care of us.

I came in for a printmaking burin, a hard to find item; employee 9702 was thoughtful and expressive, knowledgeable in printmaking and willing to show me around without delay. Good job everyone at DB. I found a parking place right in FRONT, almost unheard of in a college town, a real parking place! Thanks to the staff.

This store has really turned it around in recent years, so Ive updated my review. Its a total transformation from a few years ago. Ive visited a few times in the past year (2015 to 2016) and the staff have been very helpful, friendly, and customer-focused. I am becoming a return customer again.

Prices are still a little high, but its a great place for the art supplies you just cant find elsewhere.

Blick has been my go to place for art supplies for years. They have a great selection and fair prices. Best of all, the staff is always friendly, helpful, and knowledgable in any city Ive shopped at. Iowa City is no exception. The staff is wonderful! Dont bother with Hobby Lobby or Michaels if you are looking for quality art supplies.

This review is only for the custom framing service offered at Blick, and not for their store as a whole.Based on my experience using the Blick custom framing service, I cannot in good faith recommend anyone having a custom framing job done there.First off, the facts about this service:- You can expect to pay around $400.00 retail price for a framing job on a larger print (~26 X 40.) This is for the standard glass with a wood frame and a matte border. Expect to pay more for higher quality glass or frame. Both times Ive had custom framing jobs there Ive paid about $300 with a 30% off coupon.- The turnaround time was bout 2-3 weeks both times I used their service.The reason Ive used their custom framing service more than once is because the first print I had framed there turned out pretty well, until I had it hanging on my wall for about 2 years. The print came loose from the matte inside the frame, and started to sag. Note that the print was never handled roughly or dropped. It was only transported from Blick to my home.I took the print in to get adjusted, and when they finally got to it after about 2 more weeks, I got a call from an employee who told me the frame was cracked and would need to be replaced. He also said that the wrong type of frame was used and was not strong enough to support the large amount of glass used. When I originally picked out the frame I had done so based on the advice from the person working at Blick! What gives?! They also said it would cost about $200 to get a different frame put in, after I had already spent over $300 and been advised to put the wrong type of frame on the print. I would be happy if they replaced the frame for free, but that would not do that.Overall, it was a very unpleasant experience. I would strongly advise people to avoid the custom framing service at Blick, and will be passing the word along to people I know!
