Purchased my 1st AR-15 here with minimal knowledge on it. They gave me a 2 hour lesson on how to use it, how to sight in my red dot and we even took the rifle apart to clean and oil it. AT NO EXTRA COST! (I did buy the cleaning supplies though). I really love this place. And the employees are extremely kind. It doesn’t matter where you come from with them. Everyone gets treated with respect. And the prices for their items are just as good as online prices from discount sites. Highly recommended!!!

Terrible customer service. The man behind the counter was rude, condescending and a complete turnoff for anyone that walks into this place. ISLIP location needs serious management skills and needs to check there employees because they do NOT know how to treat customers. So glad they south shore sportsman took over this spot because they know how to actually run and maintain it! Ive been here a couple times already and on my birthday I brought some friends and they worked with us and gave me some great deals because I had to but all new bags for my guns lol. I highly recommend this spot especially for groups with first time shooters if youre looking to shoot indoors.

The shop in Merrick is great. The spot in Islip is great. Cool staff, nice guys, I really have not a single complaint. Just go in and be yaself, give good vibes, the staff gives back the same. Any firearms needs these guys are the first spots I go to and they usually got what ya need. Very helpful as well.

Very cool place. My friend and I went to try out his AR15. They taught us how to use it. The staff their is great and willing to teach you how to use your equipment if you are new to the sport. I would highly recommend.

South Shore is the best gun store on LI, hands down. They have the best pricing and availability and their knowledge of anything firearms related is top tier. I’ve shopped at their Merrick store for 12 years and it doesn’t get any better than this. Never had to wait at the range and it is always a pleasant experience. There is a reason why they’re considered the best of Long Island. Look no further than south shore.

I was so disappointed with this store. I want to support local business but when I walked in to this store both men were condescending and rude. When we asked our first question, the one worker quickly dismissed us. I didn’t even bother to I ask about any other items I was looking to purchase. I will be giving my money to another business. One who’s workers are not so rude and condescending.

Best range for miles around.I hadnt been here for some time and I was pleasantly supprised. The Range is well ventilated, well lit and functional.My friend and I (NYPD retirees) were greeted by a polite and knowledgeable staff. One guy was cranky but he may have been having a tough day. Otherwise, all of my questions were answered much to my satisfaction. Reasonable rates too. Dont leave without visiting the well stocked gun shop. Quite an impressive assemblage of guns and knives. Absolutely will return.God bless the 2nd ammendment.

I have purchased all of my weapons in the Merrick location and really think the guys there are great. For the first time, this week I took my wife and teenage sons to their range in Islip and we had a TERRIBLE experience there. Nobody could give us the time of day and not one employee at this facility was friendly or willing to help. There is a guy there with a ponytail and he was the absolute worst. Abusive and insulting and if my family was not with me there would have been a much bigger issue. These employees have no idea what customer service is and I will never go back there again. Do yourself a favor a find another range.

This place is great. Ive had nothing but good experiences here. Ive been going since early 2016 . I remember the previous owners left the facility in a state of disrepair. Its so much nicer now. Air filters work great in the actual range . All the staff are friendly and helpful. Love this place

The new owners totally fixed the place up. The gun rentals are amazing. It has a store in addition to the range. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. It is a great place for group events as well.

I was referred to them by a friend who is a LEO at Suffolk County. They helped me with an FFL purchase of a Glock (supply is bone dry in Minnesota). Being new to the whole FFL purchase process, Nick was extremely helpful! Talked me through process and provided great customer service. Even knew that Minnesota didn’t have capacity mag limit and made sure appropriate mag capacity was included!! Great customer service. You have a customer from Minnesota!!

AMAZING! Dropped off my sons rifle for minor repair, turn around time was 1.5 weeks due to parts not in being stock. I had the experience of meeting the owner. He is a very personable and helpful person. I believe he wants the best for his customers. The sales team every one of them very knowledgeable and equally as personable. Place is top notch! Super clean, first indoor range Ive been too where you felt as if you were breathing clean air lol. The ventilation system is wild in this place. Everyone there is professional and knowledgeable. Range officers were astute and personable. The two that I had interacted with gave very concise instructions as to how the range is run and what they expect in order to keep things safe. Ill be back for sure.

Friendly, helpful staff. The pro shop/FFL spent months looking for a very hard to find gun on my behalf, when no other shop would even try (and they found it for me). Range is clean, people are cool, and they take safety seriously.

Yesterday was my birthday and I took the day off work to try a bunch of new things. It was my 1st time holding anything bigger than a water or confetti gun but all the guys were so helpful! Brendan talked me through everything and even went into the range with me to assist (and make sure I left with all my appendages). He even had the patience to take pics with me & my hot pink rifle! So glad I made the last minute trip out there to begin my day of 1st time festivities! Cant wait to go back!

I think it is very important to distinguish between the old shooting center and the new one. I wont beat the horse about the old range, but comparatively the new range is a delight. I went to visit a few days ago and didnt use the range. But the vibe, the smell, the lighting, the layout and most importantly the STAFF was a real breath of fresh air (pun intended.) I hope they do well and continue to reinvest in the building. The parking lot is a mess, the exterior can use some TLC etc. But so far, so good as far as a much better (and healthier) environment to shoot.

Finally a gun shop that sells knives that are priced right. An they sell brands that you never see anywhere else. Staff is awesome. I am a knife guy more than a gun guy. But they had no problem answering my questions about rifles an not treating me like a fool an pushing me away. This is a place where you can comfortably walk in an get the info an education you need . Its extremely nice to find a quality place close to home.

This is how a range is suppose to run. Just a relaxed and amazing time at South Shore Range. They’re extremely helpful, inviting, and they explain and clarify all your safety needs. Anthony, the owner invites you in like he knows you forever. His staff are friendly, helpful, hands on, and explains everything until youre confident and satisfied. They range itself is clean with a state of the art filtration system, which really helped out after I shot for over two hours and I didn’t smell like gun powder afterward. They also have automatically forward and reverse target motors. The back stop is made of rubber so your shooting at rubber instead of sand like other locations. The staff does have routine safety checks and they do a great job helping you adjust into the accurate shooting stance and hold of your firearms. Rentals are also available and staff assist from the second you sign in untill you leave, the range. The range is a well supervised environment by all staff. I highly recommend this location for all your shooting and gun buying needs. As they also have a gun store on sight. I only can say that eventually this location will be so packed with daily shooters that I might have to wait on line to get my turn. Other than that I want to personally thank the owner and of all staff at South Shore Shooting Range for there hospitality, professionalism, helpfulness during my enjoyable experience and future visits!

First time shooter and first time at this range. As a beginner, I can say that Mike was absolutely patient, knowledgeable and friendly. I cannot thank him enough for showing me how to handle and shooting an AR. The place is very clean and I will definitely be back!

My daughter who has special needs went there today and Mike and his family treated her with such kindness and dignity. I couldn’t have asked or hoped for a better experience. She came home beaming with excitement over her day and can’t wait to go back. Mike the owner former law-enforcement officer he’s very helpful in finding you the right firearm for you and the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable and are very willing to help you .if a problem arises on the range with your firearm they are very helpful .plus they give safety course of site .and have a wide Verity of firearms with great prices .so if you are looking for a range with friendly staff with a huge selection of firearms to make your shooting experience awesome than look no further.

Went in to check out this range for the first time since new owners took it over. Much larger and cleaner than it was previously. Was greeted immediately upon entering. Staff was very friendly and helpful.

Great Improvement from previous owners. If you were left with a sour taste in your mouth from the previous people do not let that stop you from coming back as they are under new management and they are extremely kind.

The range has been updated and ventilation is top notch. For me this is closer than DSI, so I am happy happy happy that this place turned around for the better.

I dont even know where to start. Ive been shooting since I was a kid with my father but this was my first experience going on my own. I took a few rifles to teach my girlfriend how to shoot and I ended up getting free lessons in the process.When you go to a shooting range, or honestly anywhere that has to do with firearms, very frequently if you are a novice or not the most educated you feel like an outsider and you almost feel a bit nervous to talk to anyone. I walked into this store and immediately felt welcome and ready to enjoy my time.Every single staff member is kind, funny, outgoing and ready to help you enjoy your time there. Mike, the owner, was on premise (I dont know if he is there every day) and personally came into the range and showed me and my girlfriend a better stance and helped us have a more enjoyable experience. I truly couldnt have felt more welcomed at a shooting range.You read all of these miserable reviews about other local long island ranges and how the staff is unfriendly.. Stop going to those places and go to South Shore Islip. Even the biggest baddest looking dude there was cool as hell.I really could go on forever about how prompt they answer the phone, how happy they are to assist you.. The prices for the ammo were reasonable (not going on much experience there though). I walked out after shooting for 2 hours having spent under 100 dollars for two people and that included re-upping on some ammo.This was truly the best experience I could imagine at a shooting range, thank you so much to Mike and the team for making this place what it was. Ill be visiting frequently and I think they are part of the reason me and my girlfriend have a new hobby.Bring your business here, stop going to the other places that make you feel uneducated or outcasted.. This place seems like a big family - there were regulars here and they were just here to have a good time.

This place is the best range in Suffolk county hands down! Everything you could ever need for shooting needs is here no need to look elsewhere. Prices are great also. And for NYPD guys they have tac pants the new 511 Stryk style deff a great touch and awesome employees. Will be coming back here for all my gun needs !!
