Terrapin has quickly become one of my favorite places to spend my free time! I absolutely cannot get enough of it.Early into 2021 I decided it was time I get back into making glass beads after over a decade hiatus (I hadnt had a kiln and several of my creations broke so I put it down shortly after starting)I searched across the state and decided to give the Bead making class at Terrapin a try. As soon as I got there, the owner/instructor sat with me and asked what I was looking to take away from the class. I previously mentioned I had some experience so it was wonderful to have her immediately opening lines of communication in an effort to get both of us on the same page. She refreshed my memory about bead basics, ran through a demo, answered all the questions I had, watched and gave tips as I made my first few, then let me create. After that first class I knew this was the environment I wanted to be in to grow in the world of glass. Everyone Ive met at Terrapin has been warm and welcoming. Ive brought friends and family there to take classes of various types and everyone has left with a smile, having enjoyed the atmosphere, and eager to see the end result of their creations. This small business takes pride and care in what they do, and are very accommodating. I love going here.
My husband and I did the poppy class. There was a lot of hands-on repetition throughout the class and our flowers turned out pretty decent. For $85 a person I do wish there was more instruction. We spent like 3 mins watching a quick demo and then the instructor did other things around the studio. We did have fun though and are thinking of doing another class.
My wife and I wanted to try something new so, we attended a one hour class to make a glass dragonfly. The teacher-owner was fantastic. She explained what we were going to do, showed us how to complete the task, and then watched us as we tried it ourselves. Both of us successfully made 2 dragonflies. They are not perfect, but that is what makes them special.I highly recommend taking a class at Terrapin.
Terrapin Glassblowing Studio is an amazing shop! Dominique Marie is fabulous! Fantastic place, great workshop and wonderful work! Visit soon! 💖
So much fun, went today and Id schedule another class for tonight if I could! Great learning experience at a pretty good price
If only your staff showed a modicum of compassion to grieving families. We were instead callously told things like “just pick from the catalog”, “no, you can’t talk to the glass artist”, and that customers “aren’t involved” when we called to ask about making memorial pieces in the days following my mother’s death. Given the timing and the utter lack of anything approaching sympathy or compassion, I might amend “callously” to “cruelly”. This was before Covid btw, so the business was fully open and there were zero concerns about distancing or such. I’ve tried to give them grace here, but really there was just no excuse.Happily, we were able to find another local glass studio who was warm and showed empathy, and their glass artisan was happy to work with us on the custom piece that my grieving father wanted to make for his practically life-long wife.I didn’t intend to leave a review about Terrapin. If someone wants to work with a callous commercial endeavor, more power to them. But for some unholy reason this business recently advertised their memorial offerings on Facebook and when I left a comment expressing my disappointment with their services they deleted it. Didn’t offer any apologies for their callous treatment of our grief. Didn’t contact me or reach out in any way. Just deleted the comment. Poor form, very poor marketing skills, and now has prompted me to write a full blown review.
Great experience! Highly recommended for a fun creative time!
Talented glassmakers, beautiful area, recommend them to my friends all the time!
Nice experience, nice people and decent atmosphere. Defiantly something different and unordinary. The only downsides, it’s a tad disorganized; you don’t so much do any of the glass work yourself, it’s more hold our hand and they do it. Which I get because it can be dangerous, but I felt like a baby. Unfortunately I don’t think I’d recommend this place, not worth the price.
What a wonderful experience Terrapin Glass blowing was! Eight of us were there this morning to make friendship balls. The staff was very friendly and incredibly patient. We all had such a great time. Thank you Terrapin for an great day
Such a great experience! The entire team at Terrapin was knowledgeable and so fun to work and chat with. They’re happy to answer questions (no matter how many you have) and they’re classes are incredibly informative. I cannot wait to go back and learn more. Thank you thank you!!!
I cant express how great this studio is! The owners are extremely welcoming and friendly, not to mention their shop dog Pilar who comes and greets you as you walk in :) (I love dogs!) The class was smaller which makes for a better experience overall. The staff was beyond friendly and eager to answer any questions, but most importantly safety was number one priority. (That Sh*t is HOT!) Our pumpkins shipped faster than anticipated and look so beautiful! I am extremely happy with the experience and will definitely be returning! 👍👍😁
This is an amazing studio filled with knowledgeable and extremely helpful and caring staff. They go above and beyond what you could ever expect in an opportunity like this. These amazing women offer a hands on experience like no other. The prices are beyond reasonable, and you will come home with an amazing product that you helped create. Thank you Terrapin Glass for encouraging my love of glass!
Awesome place! We went in to have a pet memorial made. They were kind and considerate. We had a wonderful tour of the facility and learned about their process. We were very happy with the customer service. The items in the store are lovely and made with care. We highly recommend them for a memorial or for a special, unique gift for a loved one or a nice piece for yourself.
Took the bead making class with Jocelyn and loved it! Very informative, great easy to follow instruction for a first timer at the torch. Picked up some quality handmade glass ornaments for a friends wedding gift. Highly suggest for a weekend trip or if you are looking for some tasteful art to add to your home or to give as a gift!
This was our 2nd time blowing glass, the first with Terrapin. Dom and Kristina were fantastic instructors! Very excited to see how our friendship balls come out. We will be back again for a level 2 soon.
I absolutely love this place! Everything they create is beautiful. They offer fun classes where they show you how to create your own pieces of art for a great price. They also have a lot of community involvement, which is awesome.
My friend & I get together at least once a year and enjoy taking classes here. It can be intimidating when you are unfamiliar with working with glass- but the instructors here make it manageable & fun. Class sizes are small, so everyone is able to get individual assistance as needed. I enjoy decorating my home with handmade pieces, and they also offer a gift shop with pieces made by more experienced artists.
I came up from Connecticut to take a friendship ball class! I loved it so much that I stayed for another class that day! I decorated a glass straw!! Thank you for a wonderful experience. I purchased all of my Christmas gifts there and will later post reactions! Stay tuned!!
I enjoyed the parts that I was able to do & I really like the friendship ball I made. However, I felt very rushed and did not feel I receive as much instruction as I could have. Maybe I need to give it another try - maybe just hit them on an “off” day.
I went here for my birthday and had a great experience. The classes are small and the ratio of instructor to students are kept small. I really enjoyed it and can’t wait to go back
Very disappointed in the pumpkin class. This was more of a audience participation rather than a class since we basically did very little in terms of actual work on the glass. I also was made to feel like a child with the very firm instructions as to where to stand etc. I totally understand the dangers in working with hot glass but I have been other places that were no where near as restrictive. This was more disappointing since we had 4 people doing the class one of which was my husband which I was excited to bring and try one of my favorite things to do only to have him do nothing. Would not recommend this place nor will I ever take a class here again.
Fun and informational class. Everyone was so nice and helpful from choosing colors to making the friendship balls! Plus, the art work for sale is gorgeous!! Will definitely be back again for another class!
This was very cool! We took a class and made our own soothing stones. It was reasonably priced also! I wish we were here longer to take more classes!
I took a blow your own glass pumpkin class. It was an amazing experience. The staff were friendly and knowledgeable and the results were amazing.
This is a wonderful place for anyone who wants to learn how to do things with glass, either furnace work or flamework. Dom (hot shop) and Jocelyn (flame shop) are gifted glassworkers, but also gifted teachers - doing and teaching do not always go together, but here they really care about teaching. They have spent a lot of time and effort designing classes that start with basic skills and let you work up from there. They have also developed a team of assistants who are becoming artist-teachers in their own right. Everybody who works there is friendly, capable, and supportive, and playing with glass is fun.You can also just come and buy beautiful glass things, but if youre at all interested in trying it yourself, this is the place.
Owner and her daughter were quick to greet and the tour got underway. Answered my questions and left me look around. Quality creative hand-made glass products. Very creative stuff!
Myself and 3 friends took a group intro class here last weekend, and WOW what a wonderful experience! Be prepared though, as glassblowing is not just a leisurely activity. It was hot and labor intensive (but not overly so, dont be afraid). Our instructor led us through making 4 different items. Any artistic skill level can take this course as it is very instructor-guided/led. The class pricing is very affordable especially considering that you get to keep 4 pieces of art that you made! Great experience, and Id recommend it to anyone. The shop itself has lots of intricate art as well and is fun to stroll through and experience.
Weve enjoyed a couple of classes here (Intro Glassblowing and Flamework Pendants) and want to do more. Glassblowing is a little intense and because of the danger you get a little more led through, but Flamework you can get more creative and work on your own. The instructors were very patient and knowledgeable. Prices for classes are very reasonable. Theres a beautiful little shop too and the prices arent bad (especially since Ive seen what they charge at places like Simon Pierce).
Not sure what I was expecting going glass blowing..a friend of a friend recommended. But whatever it was, these girls beat it. We made a flower and it was gorgeous (I tell people I did it myself but in reality I had a lot of help by the professionals haha, don’t tell!). The gift shop was great and I found a couple Christmas presents to give. All in all - fun, affordable, and learned a lot to top it off!
Great experience! The staff was friendly and helpful and the class was really fun!
This seems like a lovely place with a great opportunity for enjoyment. Our experience was sub par. Owner is short tempered, unkind and lacks professionalism. Would have loved to be able to give a five star review like so many others but the way we were treated was totally uncalled for and rude. I am sure their reply will state that they are right and justified as they have done with all other less than stellar reviews. Kindness and consideration cost nothing. Perhaps a bit more decorum and professionalism would benefit the customer. No way we could ever recommend this experience to anyone.
The beginners classes are very nice. They allow a progression of making parts and able the students to grow and make something both very quickly and while building skills for the next level.Very good set up and fun environment.
My Mom has a collection of little elephant statues. I saw the ones made in glass here and gave one to her for Christmas. Thank you. She loves it.
This was such a great experience! So fun!
Fantastic place! The classes are very fun!
Terrible Experience! This venture was a huge disappointment not worth the harassment, time or the money spent. I will not be recommending it to anyone! The Story: I saw their glassblowing friendship ball class advertised ON FACEBOOK and thought it would be a fun thing to do with my 7 yo granddaughter so I clicked that I was interested. I followed up with a call as I wasn’t sure being interested was sufficient to get into the class. Two days later I got a call back letting me know that yes I needed to sign up and to pay in advance, which I did. They charged me $10.00 EXTRA for my granddaughter, so $55.00 for her. The woman explained the “rules” and told me to be there at 10:45. The FACEBOOK page advertised the class for 11:00. So I had it in my head that the class was at 11:00 and I was to be there 15 minutes early, so 10:45. Unfortunately apparently she meant the class was at 10:45 so I was to be there at 10:30. The morning of the class I got a facebook reminder that I had a class that day at 11:00. When I arrived at 10:50 (so in my mind 10 minutes before class) three employees were in the store. When one asked if I was there to shop or for a class and I said for a class they began to berate me! They claimed I WAS LATE and that I KNEW the class was at 10:45 and that I had no respect for their schedule which I was now throwing into complete disarray. I was utterly stunned and quite shaken by their over the top harassment. When I explained things from my perspective (facebook is where I saw the advertisement and from where I got a reminder as to the day and time of the class) they claimed I should KNOW not to trust Facebook. I, the customer, was meant to understand in this vast and swirling world that their advertisement on facebook was inaccurate. They displayed truly stunning and enormously unprofessional behavior...and all in front of a seven year old excited to see the glass blowing. After wasting another five minutes berating me they finally relented and began the class. There were just the two of us so we weren’t holding anyone up by our apparent tardiness. We followed all their instructions and requirements. The actual glassblowing was pretty ho-hum. You essentially watch while the glassblower does all the work while ordering you to stand here, then stand there, then blow into a tube that no doubt countless others have also had their mouths on. Perhaps this is standard operating procedure or perhaps we were being punished, I don’t know. The whole thing took like 20 minutes so far short of the hour we paid for. Then we learned that we had to return the next day to get our balls. This is not mentioned ahead of time. Once back into the store one of the three women did apologize for the assault she and her colleagues had waged, but again reiterated that facebook ads cannot be trusted and all the shop owner know this. I am a customer, not a shop owner! We returned the next day to get our balls. My granddaughter was so excited to get hers and then So Disappointed to see it was nearly 100% clear glass with a tiny wisp of yellow and a tiny wisp of orange. It looked nothing like the friendship balls displayed on the wall of the shop. And then there was my ball, which had more color than my granddaughter’s but was flat on the bottom, so not a ball at all. I would think they could at least get the glass blowing part right if not the actual smooth running of the business. But no, even that was a bust. The artistic and educational aspects I was hoping for were just not there. A huge, and expensive disappointment.
SScammers who think they are college professors!! A few min late and the lock you out and refuse refund!! Theives!!
Great guys, great artistry
Very friendly staff, beautiful art!
