My favorite bookstore in Jersey City (maybe the only surviving one?). It is sufficiently big and they change the selection frequently enough to almost always find a great book. Its independent and opinionated, with reviews from the helpful staff.

I love this place. First, the customer service is very attentive and warm. All the booksellers are highly knowledgeable about their inventory and are always willing to help you find something, or suggest something similar. Second, they are very intentional about showcasing BIPOC authors and stories that are less represented in other bookstores. I never fail to find the book Im looking for, our stumble across something new that I always end up loving. They also have a selection of cards, puzzles, journals, candles and other gifts, as well as a cafe in the back. Its the only place Im interested in buying my books from!

Since college I found solace in libraries and bookstores. Decades later, I still find great comfort of browsing the stacks, looking for the next fun read, or gift. Bookstores are where I found most of my partners before the internet ruined everything. Anyway, Word has brought this atmosphere back to Jersey City. Such a great asset to the neighborhood. Even found a great gift for everyone on the Christmas list in no time.

This place is ingenious! Food and books, two excellent things in life that can and should be enjoyed together. Not only that but they have a wonderfully eclectic selection of both, you can easily stumble upon treasures around every corner. Vegan and gluten free options abound with a myriad selection of local, interesting desserts. Walked in on an event they were hosting which gives the place an even more awesome vibe. Amazing spot in the neighborhood ♡

This is a really cool local bookstore in Jersey City! Everyone is required to wear a mask in order to enter and they ask that you apply hand sanitizer (that they provide) upon entry, so I felt very safe. They have a great selection of books. I found a bunch that were on my To Read list without even having to ask, but even if I did have to ask, they would have been very helpful. They also have a neat rewards program where if you spend over a $100, you get a $5 coupon. This is definitely my new favorite bookstore!

I really love visiting Word. They have great offerings, and the neighborhood feel is a bonus. The last time I visited because my friends book came out that same day. The clerk putting out new books was so nice and even displayed her book so sweetly in the front of the store! Not only that but they were more than patient with me browsing through the store and answering all the specific questions I had about product and stock. I purchased postcards, pencils, a journal + so much more beyond just books. I felt very welcomed and I cant wait to return!

Great staff. Theres a couple of them where Ive developed an inside joke type of friendly banter with. Others have also helped greatly with book selections. Ended up buying that instead of the one I initially picked up.)

Used to love getting books from here back when I had an obsession w/ stranger things and had to get a school related book, I would come here, its good if you want world books, but if you want faith-based books, might want to look elsewhere, considering that many books that I try to look for online at their website - cant be ordered. Will still be coming here for school related books, cooking, and books regarding race - but its quite upsetting that faith-based books arent able to be purchased in the way that other books are.

Everything about this shop is wonderful. The book selection, the cafe, and most of the staff are great. I was a little confused by this older white male who came to the front of the store to terrorize my cousin and I last night with a thinly veiled look of disdain. He could barely contain his animosity and watched us like a hawk as we discussed books and journals. He answered my cousins question about a journal in a tight-lipped manner as if it cost him a hefty price to do so. In fact, I had just purchased a book from one of his coworkers. Not sure what that out of touch worker was doing there. It was unfortunate but not enough to deter me from visiting again. Perhaps he was severely constipated! If you ever read this, I wish you well and hope you find peace, joy and purpose in the near future. Life shouldnt hurt that much! Feel better! We still enjoyed our visit very much.

Word cafe is a gem of a place located in Downtown JC on Newark Avenue. While its a book-store/cafe/gift shop its as valuable a business as the multiple glowing night-life venues located in the neighborhood. Some of the most memorable highlights of this place- Theres a cute little cafe in the second half of the shop that serves brilliant coffee, croissants and a bunch of home-made organic food items.- The greeting cards are absolutely adorable. Ive come here to pick a card for almost every special occasion ranging from Happy Birthdays to All the bests and Valentines Days. The best part about them is the quirky messages/ visuals on the front side followed by space to write your own sweet message- The store holds a vast collection of books of all genres as well as other gift items such as candles, mementos and so onpro tip : If you create an account with the shop, they do let you exchange items within 24 hours of purchase.J.C. needs more of such businesses :)
