Fareway is known for quality fresh meat. Their prices are competitive and they have terrific service, especially at the meat counter. Fareway is my go-to for stocking up on meat.

Its price well, good quality items. But its really smelly? Like aggressively stinky. If I dont wear my mask, I get nauseous.

Nice, newer store with a larger selection of groceries. Very pleasant staff ALL masked! Thank you! However, do not care for all the Self Pay lanes they have. I like Fareway for the personal service, but dont take those jobs away from people who need the $...! Those lanes were very empty & I passed them up for only 5 items... Dont get rid of jobs for Iowans - no matter their age!!!

This Fareway is clean and has alot more bakery items than the one I go to and produce I found/got looked good and tastes good.

Overall nice clean store! Most employees are friendly. Dont waste your time trying their self checkout- it will only frustrate you on several levels.

I worked here for 2 months and I’m repulsed by the environment of this store. A company that formerly valued my business as a customer & made me feel somewhat valued. Going from a customer to an employee should’ve been a rewarding experience but it most certainly was not. I worked FT in the Meat Market and I had previous experience from working with Hy-Vee, they did not care one bit. Which I kind of expected, but I also had to learn how they operate as well, as I was learning my way, I was informed that they didn’t have time to train me & expected me to adapt rather showing the process. They constantly harassed me about my speed, and told me I was too slow. After being out of the loop for 3 years, readjustment wasn’t easy which was expected. Every day coming into work wasn’t enjoyable & was worse than the previous day. Tried to work out situations with the managers like disgruntled customers, but they are too concerned with their reputation instead of there character. Definitely wouldn’t recommend working here.

This is where everybody needs to go to get their meat and they also have other things like everything that a grocery store should have but they are very clean store and close by they have one in every suburb theyre getting one in beaverdale. But not much for pets just a little bit

The best beef in town! Quality meat and produce at a fair price and all the other groceries you want at less than you buy them down the street at Hy-Vee. I always shop here first when I am in town to visit my daughter. Highly recommend!

Fareway is always great for meat. Has some of the best meat sections in Iowa, always fresh cut and ready to go. Knocked a star because the price of everything else is high compared to places like Walmart.

Clean store.. excellent service and great food at the meat counter. Friendly cashier. Self checkout was not user friendly. Anytime I used the produce lookup it requires the cashier to come over to verify. Thats ridiculous if its self checkout and you have to stop several times for authorization. Very inconvenient...

I like our Fareway. Although it doesnt have the selection and specialty products of a large HyVee, it has most of what we need, its smaller and easy to get around and the staff is friendly. I like having someone take the groceries out and out them in the car for me.

Overall great, but Heather kept demanding I come put my groceries down on the counter when the customer in front of me hadnt yet moved. she apparently wanted me to stretch 6 feet to give her my basket. I am not physically able to do that, and she only had to wait about 10 seconds for me to get closer. Please be more patient with customers during covid.

We always have a great experience at Fareway. We just moved to this side of town and it was my first time at this location. Every store always clean, well organized, and have friendly staff.

Besides the convenient location of this Fareway store and the awesome meat department. They also give Food bucks based on the produce you buy and the quantity. The food bucks work like cash and can be redeemed at other stores and even the Farmers Market. That was pretty awesome. But its only for a limited time.

Employees are super helpful, shelves are flush with product and produce/meat are super fresh. The store is super clean and ample parking.

It was awesome! Special props to a very sweet young lady named Kate for helping me find various items that were difficult for me to find.

I like the meat from Fareway the best of all of the choices we have. Even though this Fareway doesnt have a bakery they have a good variety of baked goods that are wonderful. The people who help you out with your groceries are so friendly and I think that is a big advantage over the competition. I truly like Fareway stores but I wish they were a little bigger and carried a little more.

Reasonable prices, good meat counter, polite employees. The bacon wrapped filet is reasonably priced and has been tender and delicious. Shaved meat, ham balls, their own blend of ground burger, turkey tenders and boneless chicken breasts are just some of the great meat selections. The rotisserie chicken is tasty and a good value.

Local with fresh meats and great produce. Clean and with friendly personable employees. Locally purchased products in many areas which benefit our community.

This is my new favorite grocery store! The Fareway crew is very friendly and the meat guys are a party. The store is spiffy clean and well organized. Although Im very close to the Ankeny location, I prefer to drive a bit further to shop here. So happy I found this store!

I enjoy shopping at Fareway in Johnston. I can find everything I need and its easy to get In and out of the store. I believe the prices are very competitive plus they unload the groceries from your cart as they ring up the purchases on the cash register. I think this is more efficient. They also take the groceries out to the car without prompting.

The Johnston Fareway is the best!! What great employees! I only buy meat from this particular meat counter. No other grocery chain or Fareway. These guys (and girls) are super friendly.

Beautiful store! Well stocked with a great variety of items and prices are very good. Employees were friendly and helpful! Angela who checked out my order was delightful as was Sam the bagger. Not the closest store for me but worth the extra drive. I will become a regular.

We live in Ankeny and drive to the Johnston Fareway for our groceries. It is absolutely clean and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The meat dept. is wonderful.It has more of a small town feel.

Just bought fresh chicken, brought it home to cook it. The chicken smelled so bad I could not consider feeding it to anyone. I called to let the store know the chicken was bad and they should pull it. The associate in the meat depart I spoke with told me that someone else had already brought the chicken back and the manager assured him that is was safe to eat. He did offer a refund if I brought the chicken back to the store (probably so they could sell it). I told him I could not bring it back tonight and did not want to even put it in my fridge. His response was that I could not bring only the receipt, the chicken had to be there. Due to the terrible customer service I will never shop at Fareway again, and due to their terrible food safety policies I would recommend NO ONE buy meat there. I filed a complaint with the USDA, hopefully the store will follow proper food safety in the future.

I love Fareway and this store is by far my favorite!!! Management is very responsive to requests, the store is convenient and the staff helpful. Today the manager went above and beyond. My only complaint is my favorite meat market manager got promoted and moved on to corporate. But there are plenty of new folks helpful as always.And my overall Fareway review- Love the parking at most Fareway’s as well, it is designed much more convenient then Hy-er priced places. The pricing in the allergy friendly section and special requests for items is excellent, best in town. Honestly, I have lived all over the globe and the US, and I have never lived anywhere with such excellent prices throughout the store and incredible meats.

The Johnston Fareway ranks equal to the other Fareway stores. I favor Fareay for their personable staff at their Meat Counter. This Fareway seems to stock a number of South Asian products, which are interesting. Packaged naan and other typical Indian foods. This may be to provide products for folks associated with DuPont-Pioneer in Johnston, which is quite thoughtful. A pleasant, tight operation. Thanks.

Everyone is very friendly from the moment you walk in to checkout. The store is very busy during after work hours (330pm-530pm). Everything is decently priced and the meat counter is amazing.

Love Fareway here in Johnston. Kinda sad theyve only been carrying one kind of Fareway dip. Always get the Fareway salsa dip, now have to get AE last couple times. Over all Fareways the best!!!

Its always a pleasant experience buying meat from Fareway.

I was anxiously waiting for this store to be completed. Ive been there three times since it opened. It was not worth the wait. The last time we were there, we simply had a question about some meat seasoning. The butcher did not answer our question, rather wanted to sell us a very expensive cut of beef.

Prices are great. Their meats are the best around and they people are incredibly kind.

I guess you can say Farway spoiled me when it comes to liking my meat a certain kind of way. I have been shopping at a Fareway store since 1996 and I will NEVER go back. The paticualr store is great on having the cuts you want and decent enough sales but they do have habit of treating customers a certain kind of way if they think you dont belong there. They might want to work on that. Thats why they lost one star.
