I called the repair department to ask if they might have an obscure part (derailleur hanger bolt) to my mountain bike and mechanic Nick said to come by the Kailua Bike Shop and he would help me.When I got there, Nick came out from the back to greet me and then when he realized how specialized the part was, he went back into the repair area and rummaged through some spare bolts, reappearing with a couple of potential candidates. He said he had even taken the time to look online for the type of derailleur hanger I have to help narrow down the possible solution. The bolts he gave me (did not charge me for them or his time) were too short to work, but I was able to take them across the street to the hardware store and get a match. Ive been mountain biking for more than 25 years and do most of the work on my bike at home, but I really like the professionalism, courtesy and mellow vibe of the Bike Shop in Kailua π².
Just got our 3 bikes back. Great, honest, and speedy service. Would definitely recommend, and use again.
This is a small bike shop (just like most shops in Kailua) but they always seem to have what I need. Everyone here is always pleasant. Overall: my go-to bike shop
The process to rent was very smooth, booked it online and next day went to the shop in Kailua. My bike was ready for me when i got there, the seat was already adjusted for my height, the bike looked and felt new, the gear shifting was good, tires were inflated, and I got the lock as requested in my reservation and was asked if I wanted a helmet. The attendant opened the double doors so i could ride off the shop, he was wearing a mask and maintained social distancing. The drop off was just as easy.
Went today, 30 January, in order to get a tune up on a bike that was purchased from The Bike Shop as a Christmas present. This will be a two part review as I had some initial concerns reading some of the other reviews that blasted the customer service at the Kailua location. No issues or concerns at all with the customer service so far. Front desk clerk helped us right away and directed us to the back maintenance area. We were greeted by one of the bike mechanics who took our information and relayed work we needed to get done. We were told that the bike would probably be ready thisafternoon as there were several bikes ahead of ours but we said we would be fine if it took until Monday.Next review will rate the actual work done and cost.
Everything was great - the bike rode awesome, the process was easy, and the staff were very nice. I rented an Allez Sprint Comp and the bike was in awesome shape and the shifters and brakes felt newly tuned.I rode across the eastern part of the island several times and also rode up to the North Shore a few times (I had a two week rental). I was staying in Laie, which ended up not being the best location for biking. I highly recommend checking out the highway along Hanauma Bay/Koko Crater as the biking there was awesome. If you are looking to go from Kailua upward along the coast its doable, but just be aware that you will be biking on a freeway for part of the way.
Brought a wheel in for a spoke replacement--- it took them six days and they charged $45 for labor. It seems like Kailua should be able to support a decent LBS but this is definitely not it.
They pumped up my tire, and raised my handlebars without charging. They are courteous and respectful. Always there to lend a helping hand. Been going to them for bike repairs for 20 years. They have a lot of parking out back - better than their old location.
Been here a few times for parts and tools. They are always friendly and helpful, the mechanics especially will take a look at the issue I have and if they dont have the part they will know what part to recommend.
Abysmal customer service from Roland. But Henry was helpful.
Great staff, always makes sure you get the right things for the best price.
Friendly staff and excellent serviceI brought my bike in for servicing and it was returned working like new
Great shop. Also, very helpful customer service. I had to cancel a service after the scheduled date and they cancelled free of charge.
Awesome. We rode 11 miles today
Dropped an old neglected bike off to be made operational again. Their staff oiled it up and pumped up the tires for free. Very honest and kind people. Recommend this shop for all your biking needs.
I always try to be supportive of my local bike shop, and have had some good experiences in the past here, but at this point if the business failed I dont think Kailua would miss it, and it might allow the space for a better bike shop to open up. Ive never seen a shop so out of touch with its local community. I ride through Kailua every day, and what I see people using are beach cruisers, commuter models with fenders, cargo bikes, and other bikes to tote small children around on. What does this shop sell? Road and hybrid bikes for a dying breed of middle aged men in Lycra. Everytime I ask someone where they got their commuter or kid-carrier bike, they say yeah I had to order it online because The Bike Shop doesnt carry anything like this. Recently, I made a special trip to buy a replacement chain for my commuter bike, which I brought up to the register...Because I always *try* to patronize my LBS. The young lady at the register showed me a $50 Shimano Ultegra chain. Seriously? You think that is an appropriate chain for a commuter bike? I guess if you have an out of touch manager, youll have out of touch or untrained employees. I went home and ordered a $17 chain online. 2 stars because you gotta save 1 star reviews for the bike shops with the rude & condescending employees. They are not that here.
They charge $85 for bike rentals for 24 hours. They wouldnβt rent me a bike for a few hours for less than that. Itβs all about taking your money at the bike shop, Kailua.
Overpriced. Went in for a tune-up. Told me over $200.00. Go to McCully instead. $30 clams.
Bummed at the experience I had. Just moved to Kailua and this happens to be the only shop in town. Iβve bikes for many years, from triathlon racing, gravel racing to loads of mountain biking. Went in to see about purchasing a new specialized (isnβt my brand of choice, but I wanted to buy a brand from the local shop) and the sales kid was rude, short and not helpful whatsoever. Iβve always had amazing bike shops where I lived, looks like Iβll be driving to town for service.
This place is awesome. They replaced the inner tube on my sons tire. The service was great, the people are friendly and helpful and the prices are within reason for a great bike in Hawaii
Stopped by with an issue with my bikes tire and they were friendly, helpful, and fixed the issue in under 25 minutes. They also seemed very reasonably priced. They not only fix bikes but also rent a wide variety from cruisers to road bikes, and sell a variety. If you need something fixed in your bike I recommend them.
We rented mountain bikes to ride some nearby trails. The bikes were decent and reasonably priced and the employees were very friendly and helpful. They have a good selection of merchandise as well.
$$$ good bikes and good deals
The staff was knowledgable about exactly what it would take to restore my old bike. They pushed a new bike at first (very pricey), but understood when I explained I only use mine infrequently. They were honest about costs and the parts I received were high quality. They know their stuff. I will definitely go back!
The staff was very friendly and knowledgable and helped me pick out a good quality bike for a reasonable cost. Some of the accessories are a bit pricey, but everything is very high quality and they know their stuff. I will definitely go back when its time to make adjustments or if I need a repair.
Super cool bunch of people. I recently rented a bike from here for my stay there and the bike and service were super solid. They have everything from your Electra cruiser to etap chameleon Tarmac for sale as well which was awesome to see. Thanks guys. π€π»ππ»
I found the shop employees to be very helpful and polite with my road bike rental. Rental options are limited at this location, but the Allez was fine for a one day rental. Their Honolulu shop has more options. One employee spent a lot of time showing me local ride options on a map. I did a 34 mile out and back south along the coast and the ride was great. Beautiful views, options for ridge climbing, and I felt safe the entire time.
Fantastic service, bikes were in excellent condition, friendly staff. A great way to spend your time getting to know the area and the beach. Highly recommend!
The workers are always welcoming and friendlyβ¦ And very helpful, its a quiet peaceful nice placeβ¦ They know and understand their business! Yes i do highly recommend The Bike Shop! πππ
This is the place! The staff was courteous and friendly. They were so nice to my daughter while working on my wifeβs bike. If you need anything this is the place to go!
My wife and I recently moved to Kailua, we dropped by this bike shop curious to look inside. The staff were super friendly and not over bearing like some bike shops can be. We had a really nice talk with Roland about the bike scene in Kailua and he answered some of my questions about a new bike Ive been wanting to purchase. We only bought a few small bike accessories and had a tune up on our beach cruiser, but will definitely be back for a bike purchase in the future based on our discussion with Roland. Recommend a stop by if you need a quality bike shop with knowledgable staff.
Ive taken my bike here twice and Ive been very impressed with both the work done and the customer service. Replaced my rear derailleur and chain, as well as a general tune up in a few hours. One of the techs, Island, was extremely helpful and patient with me while I was trying to figure out which handlebars to replace my flats with. He helped me pick out new bullhorn bars and brake levers, and did an excellent job making my old shifter levers work on the bullhorns. For custom work as well as maintenance and repairs this place is the best.
I had a great experience with the guys here - The seat dropper post was stuck on my MTB. They helped me right away and with a little effort, they fixed it. No charge! I bought some socks as a thank you. They were very friendly and we chatted about the local trails. Will definitely go to them again.
Very quick and professional. Replaced the tube on my rear tire and after labor and parts it only cost me $18. Be warned about buying used bicycles from them, though.
Roland did a great job of putting back together and tuning my road bikes after we moved to Kailua. Very professional and knowledgeable. Thank you
The Dude Abides. I am a transplant to the island and was looking for a great bike. I wanted to be able to park my truck at my house and grab the bike for everything else.I had a few online interests, but wanted to check this place out for the quality bikes they had in their inventory.Overall, not a lot of cruiser/commuter bikes in stock for the day I was there(maybe because they all sold?), but I found a great bike and had superb customer experience shopping. I spent a little more than I wanted, but it was because of my taste not the price.TLDR: reasonably priced quality with great customer service. Even better when ya can buy local. Thanks, broheims!
Took my brand new bike to the shop because the brakes were squeaking. Paid 80 bucks and got it back 3 or 4 days later with the result of more squeaking.Bad service guys, sorry!
The negative reviews were erased. Ill re-post mine because my feelings havent changed. Ive blacklisted this shop. Ive been going to the one in Kailua for years, just because they are the only one it town. They have sold me tires that have popped in three days, a rim that has bent in a few months, they tried to sneak on a $90 tire, just a lot of really shady stuff...Ive actually seen a family bring a bike to the shop to get it adjusted for their 10 year-old daughter. When the family left the guy fixing the bike said, I hate kids, they annoy me and I should set it up so she crashes. They really treat their customers like crap and sell products and service of the same quality. Its a huge inconvenience to take my bike all the way to town, to get it serviced, but Id certainly rather do that then give these guys my money.Im probably going to buy a bike today...but it wont be from these guys.My recommendation is not to go here, the service and products really are that bad...frankly, it just isnt safe.
Very helpful. Fixed my bike in less then 3 minutes. Very cheap too.
The mountain bike I rented from this shop was poorly tuned and the chain was heavily corroded.I pointed this out to the worker who rented me the bike, Eric.He told me the this:βSince I asked about a (military) discount when I rented the bike, I was obviously making this up.βAs a vet and bike shop employee myself, I was blown away by this shop.I pointed out the blown rear shock to Eric and he said it was fine even though him and the mechanic couldnβt get it to function properly. It looks like the media manager has been removing poor review on Google. Just a heads up. Will repost this if removed.
My wife and I moved here and had our bikes shipped from the main land. We needed to get them put together. Only charged 40 bucks each which I thought was reasonable. Seemed to do a mostly fine job (my front breaks need to be adjusted a little but otherwise seems fine). Were nice to be when I brought the bikes in and when I picked them up. I brought my kids in to get sized and the sales person took time with each of them. I will be back and check out other services. I was worried based on reviews but have found them to be just fine. Thanks for the service!
Impeccable service and curtesy. They quickly addressed my mechanical issues within minutes!
Very flexible; let us pick up the bikes at Kailua and drop them off in Honolulu. Get bikes for full 24 hours so can drop them off next day if need.
Fantastic customer service [so far the best Ive experienced while on oahu] - great knowledge on bikes in stock, had great insight on local trails & groups.
These guys here were really helpful, I took my bike in for repairs, they took a look at it and in 20min it was done, it felt great knowing my bike was resurrected from sitting for a year, a new chain, back sprocket and sprocket ring along with my tires being flat, I was so stoked to ride it again, Mahalo to The Bike Shop in Kailua.
Great service, nice guys that really want to help.
Awesome shop with great mechs in the repair shop. These guys really looked out for my budget when doing the repairs and went above and beyond my expectations!
Great repair shop. They were very helpful when working with my Felt MTBs warranty issue.
Let me start off by saying this is the best bike shopI started off by buying my wife a road bike (Tarmac) Mathew helped me and got me a great deal on a 2012 version. A Few months go by and my wifes rim spokes snapped and broke for no apparent reason. I took them back expecting to get told i needed to pay but Devin (Manager) and koll both helped me and told me about doing what they could to insure Specialized replaced them. They got the rims back and running in about 1 week. Another instance i bought a 250$ Helmet i didnt have my receipt and it had something wrong with it. The moment i walked in the door and told them, they took a look and told me to get one that i liked. This is the kind of customer appreciation that all business should strive for. These guys have earned my trust and i know every time i go i will be taken care of its like having insurance. Hopefully you guys take a look they have an excellent range of bikes for all level of users. I want to say Robert and koll are usually the ones who help me but the entire staff is outstanding.
Whether its bringing strollers in to replace tubing, purchasing a bike, or service, these guys are amazing! I cant recommend them enough!
Friendly and knowledgeable staff that was able to get my brakes fixed in just a few minutes.
Excellent, kind and polite service.
Bought 2 bikes from these guys. love em
We just moved to Kailua, and I went in to look for an additional bike, to train with. First, I waited for 15 minutes for help. I stood there patiently while the two guys behind the counter joked around and made fun of the patrons (they spent 350$ plus...) that just left. I stood in front of the counter, and neither made eye contact....just kept ignoring me. One of their buddies walked in and they helped him right away, with shoe replacement. I finally asked if there was anyone working that could help me, and the younger guy asked yeah? I said I was looking for a 2012 if they had any left over, (I am replacing my training bike). I was told (borderline rudely.....) we dont sell used bikes and he went back to texting....I then politely thanked him for his time....and took my business elseware....for good.....
Great bikes & friendly service
Never been there but the manager Adam Brook bought our lunch for us at a sandwich shop! Totally saved our day and fed our kiddos! Mucho majalo.
Great customer service
Very friendly and helpful
Amazing shop!
I borrowed a bicycle here. It was very cheap at 15 dollars in 4 hours, and it made it a good time to return, so I think I lent it for about 20 minutes.Although it may have been vacant by chance, I was able to use time efficiently with a wasteful response quickly. It was very kind and taught me the way to the destination and attention points on the map.Bicycles are new and clean and can be used without problems.I was saved because you taught me about the bus on the way back.It was a nice day with a good customer service.I will definitely do it again when I need rental!
When I told the Japanese staff that I wanted to go to Kailua Beach and Lanikai Beach, they taught me the way carefully, and they told me carefully how to enter from where the gate was and whether there was a shower.I felt that my bicycle was well maintained, and I didnt feel inconvenient.I also wanted to use it when cycling in Kailua.I am very satisfied. Thank you very much.
There was no Japanese staff at the time of the visit, but I was able to communicate through simple conversations.I borrowed it around 9am, but I started it at 10am.It was very good with polite correspondence.
Payment will be by card. The correspondence was polite. I also asked them to confirm the location on a map, such as where the place they want to go is. Bicycles do not have a brake lever on the right side of the steering wheel, but the front wheel lever on the left and the rear brake when pedaling to the rear side, which is a little different from normal operation, but you will soon get used to it.
Kailua bicycle shopI also do rental bicyclesGood for tourists, $ 15 in 4 hours$ 20 for a day before closingSome clerk who can speak JapaneseGood place to be.
