HIDDEN GEM OF A SUSHI CHEF!Its so hard to find really good, affordable sushi, and especially so in kalamazoo. Ive resorted to going to the supermarket. I used to go to meijer, but one day their stock was empty, so i went to the D&W down the street, hoping they had some of the prepackaged like meijer. Imagine my surprise when im sitting there trying to decide what to get because i didnt see my favorite, and someone pops up from behind the cooler and asks me what i want made! The chefs come in first thing in the morning to start getting things ready, and the cooler full. And its SOO TASTY! I had a spicy crunch roll, which thry called a french roll. Large pieces stuffed with cucumber, crab, avocado, and topped with shredded crab, spicy sauce, sushi sauce, and a generous helping of crispy fried onions. Better than the typical breading crumbs. But they will make anything you want and still keep the cooler stocked full of fresh gzoya, california rolls, tuna, salmon, and several types of sashimi and rolls. Better than any buffet, or restraunt ive been to in a long time. Not since i lived in FL, and found a Publix with the same type of sushi bar hidden inside. You have GOT to try it!Guarantee you wont have better at the price, which is typical of your everyday sushi bar prices.Store was very clean, well laid out, and had fair prices on other things, too!

There is a Starbucks in this grocery store and it seemed like a really nice place to get groceries, I would shop here. I think the Starbucks is still setting up but they do have their drinks available. They sell sushi at this establishment which was a nice touch, not a lot of grocery stores carry sushi. 😉

This will always be my favorite grocery store in Kalamazoo. Great selection of food and wines. Great fresh goods as well including sushi! Starbucks inside which is also nice.

I have not been in D&W stores for years forgot how nice they are, will go back more often

I love the store because its very convenient and has the best meat around I just wish their prices werent minimum of a dollar per item more expensive than anywhere else

I d say 3.5 stars. Theyre clean and mostly friendly. Some act a little uppity. They got every kind of cheese and a huge selection of hummus. Prices are a little high but it seems like all food prices went up quite a bit over the last month. Ask for their store value card it can be used at Family Fare, their sister store. They also have a lot of interesting things if you read the back of your receipts.They got a huge selection of liquor and wine. About two aisles of alcohol to check out if you like to party. They also have nice plants and flowers too. Mothers Day is coming up. Its always pretty fast in the lines. I would recommend it to friends and family.

Nothing special. Good selection of meats. Cool that they have a sushi bar where they make fresh sushi.

There is So much good food choices here!Floor layout and sectioned foods great!Also some other multi items.Nice hanging flower baskets front of store.Mask to be worn entry in to store.No worries with that.

Favorite place to shop. They offer a wide variety and their fruits and veggies always look good. Employees that work the floor are always nice and helpful but the cashiers need more training on how to be courteous and respectful. Basic overall experience, however, is pleasant.

I have spent thousands of dollars at this store. I will never shop there again. I forgot $70 cash back in there self scan machine yesterday and when I went back a manager told me that after they reviewed the tapes they would refund my money. I went back today and was told the tapes were still being reviewed, then he also told me that regardless of what they find it wasn’t their responsibility. I explained it was money towards my 10 year old daughters Christmas present and we are struggling. I also reminded him that the manager the day before had told me my money would be refunded after review. He again told me it wasn’t their responsibility. So what was the point of watching the tapes? Very rude with no empathy. I work in retail and know that the store director could afford to refund us the money out of good customer service efforts. Their self scan machine had a long delay so it’s easy to forget to grab your cash backs Looks like it’s gonna be an even lighter Christmas this year.

A bit pricey but a wide selection. They carry high quality goods in every department. Service is always top notch, they still have baggers at checkout!

This store has an excellent produce section, a great meat and seafood counter and a wide selection of wines, cheeses, snacks, breads (including daily fresh offerings from the local Sarkozys Bakery) and other products. I shop here often and am never disappointed.

Bought a lot of deals on meat and deli items. Today just happened to be senior discount day-Wednesday. Saved well over $20 with mark down deals and discounts. Definitely a happy camper.

A well-organized and very clean store. Despite its size, it does have a self-checkout option, which is nice if youre in a hurry. It does have some higher end stuff and the prices reflect that.

I felt panicked because there werent any cases of water on the shelves. The nice lady went to the back and got me some.

Really nice store. Has a Starbucks inside and they are open at 6am. Their deli and and meat/butcher are pretty good. Best tasting steak I can find. Have a good selection of fish and shellfish too. You will pay more for everything here, only downside. However, their sushi is the best store sushi you can find in the area.

Aint nothing like getting to the store early for a special, being told to come back at 10 when the special begins, and arriving at 950 to see the special already sold out to all the owners friends.... Got some professional people working here let me tell ya!

Went there tonight and their floor walker was following me as soon as I walked through the door. I confronted him and asked if he was a creeper or a floor walker and should I call the police. He said go ahead. I then went to the manager and explained the situation and he got on it immediately. He was young but he was very professional about it and handled it. Im new to the area and I wasnt there to steal I was there to buy. I will go there again but I hope this doesnt happen again and I hope race wasnt the issue.

The d and w on Oakland in Kalamazoo has poor service. A woman working at the store rolled her eyes at me today. When I asked her what the problem was she went on and on about how I did not return my cart correctly. Recently I went to return cans and the woman at the customer service counter yelled at me for not returning my cans correctly. I do not feel comfortable going back.

Look for weekly specials as they are great bargains. Plus, seniors, 55 of age, and older get a percentage off for signing up for a rewards card. I believe either 10% or 15% off.I found food to be fresh, and in stock.

Well stocked, best store-made tortilla chips that beat any of the commercial brands in taste/thickness.The seafood and meat area are outstanding and has a great selection of deli items for a store it’s size.The staff is helpful and it pays to be in their loyalty program.Lastly - it feels COVID-Safe unlike some of the bigger stores in the area that don’t seem to be able to control their protocols.

Good selection, over priced and unfriendly

This store is very convenient for me, less than a 2 min drive. It has a wide variety of stuff for a smaller store, but the small size of the store means they cannot carry all varieties. Their produce is top notch, their meat department is pretty good, and they have both a small deli and small bakery. They have a tiny fresh sushi section and a Starbucks station. Their parking is good too. I would say the only things that kept me from giving 5 stars is their prices tend to be higher and they sometimes dont have enough cashiers to deal with the volume of customers.

Just went in for some yeast, I like that its in a glass jar. It was a little busy, but there was not a line for the self check out. I was able to get on and out within 5 minutes.

Sushi bar here is very good.

I can’t even describe how thrilled I am with these cupcakes! The bakery department is clearly very talented! Just, wow. We had these cupcakes made for my husband’s birthday, and they turned out so perfectly. And at such a reasonable price! We will definitely be buying future baked goods from here!

Good grocery store. I like the low ceilings

This store is amazing for not being a superstore. EVERYTHING was nice, neat, clean, orderly, and well stocked. I honestly did not find what I went there for...but that was okay because it was an item that they didnt even carry. Not from poor inventory or not stocking. They have so many great deals, great sales, and amazing looking looking dishes at good prices. From their fully prepared and cooked, to just prepared food to take home and cook, to bakery goods. Im use to shopping at Our Family brand stores, and this is certainly the best one out of about 15 that I have been to. And open until midnight too, especially during the COVID-19 crisis. This probably sounds as if I am biased, as in an employee or someone that was paid to write good reviews. It was just my first time there, and first time to go through the entire store. Hoping to continue shopping there regularly, I WILL(as I always do) edit my review if any of these things end up not holding up, or any problems become an issue that I was previously unaware of. Otherwise, they certainly have my business for now.

I usually just go to the bakery or Starbucks. But, I have to say... the cakes are *amazing* the cake case is so colorful and I recently requested them to make me a custom cake. The writing was perfect and so concise. I was extremely happy with the cake!! The cookies are out of this world too. They have all sorts of characters and cute things here. I can’t find another place that will make a custom cake like these here. Wow! And the price is really decent. They have great donuts too and the jalapeño cheddar rolls are delicious.Edit: Fall 2021- Sadly, there are no more cookies. They have discontinued them. The bakery staff told me because I tried to order some. Which is very unfortunate because I know a lot of people liked them.

02/06/2020 near 5:44pm.ATTN: Craig Sturken, I was at your d&w store in Kalamazoo, Michigan. On Parkview avenue. There was a man in the store near the Oreos, facing the opposite direction not wearing a mask at all. I said something to the deli clerk, she didnt seem to care. I said something to the Starbucks clerk who also said theres nothing we can do. I stated well theres something I can do, Im leaving. I left my full cart and called the front service desk to speak with the store manager who said theres nothing we can do about people not wearing masks in our stores. I explained to her that I would be calling the health department and letting them know what happened.I have been shopping at d&w for years and will never return.

Love D&W always get everything we need and the guys at work behind the meat counter excellent service the guys at the deli fabulous very grateful and appreciated thank you all at D&W

I go for the seafood. Their selection is one of the best in the area. Good neighborhood market, but can be a little pricey on some things. I highly recommend.

Love the butcher and the sushi and the Starbucks and high-end items this place sells. I moved to the neighborhood to be closer to the store.

Unusual and eclectic items can be found here. Gourmet items are plentiful. Love the 50 cent/gal coupons for gas.

The deli staff sucks. They refuse to slice meat after 7:45 when the deli is supposedly open until 8. I hobbled up to the counter at 7:44 and the lady basically told me to go away.

A bit more more expensive than your typical grocery store. Its an upscale urban store though with excellent quality meat, bakery and deli items.

They have a wonderful meat and seafood counter, deli counter and great bakery. The sushi is excellent too.

I can never get all my grocery shopping done because so much is out of stock! Not just since Covid, always! Empty shelves throughout the store. And sale items are NEVER restocked!! I walk out of there too upset, too often. If not for the butcher shop, I would completely stop shopping there.

I love love love the floral section they have a nice set variety of different flowers that everyone wants and a little birdie told me a new product is coming soon.

I guess they just never restock cause I’ve been here every day for the past 8 days and NEVER found my item, asked for help and was told if it’s not there it not there. Won’t be back for awhile

An amazing grocery store. Really nice and helpful manager that you actually see working. Not just sitting around telling others what to do. Their selection is good too. Had trouble finding deli meats but thats because I go in there late. They are always having deals and different products in and out. Their card is free to get and gives you a free item every Wednesday and deals all the time. Got a Starbucks in there too but never went. Looks like a good one though. The bakery is super good too

I love this place. Whenever Im looking for a specific ingredient, this is one of my first stops. They also have an excellent selection of alcohol and alcohol related products. Ive never left D&W disappointed.

What is going on with this store? It looks like a 3rd world grocery store. I can understand the rona shortages but other stores have full shelves and produce now. It looks like the store is going to close soon.

The staff here are kind and prompt store is always clean. Only downside is the Baby/infant aisle is small and strangely laid out. I struggle to find the products I need in that aisle. Though staff always offer to help they also dont carry the formula I prefer so thats a bummer. However theyre deli/and bakery area is awesome! I almost exclusively buy my bread here. Pro-tip they have like a discounted bread section (expires soon, or may be smushed etc) I love this! Ill buy the soon to expire bread and freeze it, and pull it out later my family love it! The pricing allows my family and I to try breads that would normally be luxury items for us! :) Love the paper options and the carry out service. Would recommend!

Best seafood dept. In town!!! Friendly helpful staff, specialty beer selection and top notch produce make this one of, if not the best grocery store in town!! Full butcher counter as well as a bakery...just wow!

Great store. Customer Service is very important here, and you can tell. Selection is outstanding, especially high end grocery options. Price is higher than the bigger chain grocery stores, but this place is perfect for quick stops and rarer items you might not find at the other stores.

Good Service. Stop here for lunch a couple of times, great deli. Prices a little on the high side.

I LOVE this D&W! Everyone knows everyone, everyone is chatty and friendly. The staff is wonderful and will bend over backwards to get you what you need. There are a couple staff members Ive become friends with because they are so outgoing and cheerful. The prices might be higher in some sections, but thats what $ stores are for. And if you pay attention they have great prices in their meat section, a great variety and better quality from other stores. I love shopping there!

Love this store! There are lots of specialty foods, great produce, fresh fish, butcher shop, bakery, wines, beer and flowers. Cant forget the ready-made meals, sushi or even an inside Starbucks! This is an upscale grocery with slightly higher prices than the local store but it is so worth it, and you can be sure of getting top quality.

I wish this store understood that there are many different people of ethnic backgrounds that are not Caucasian that live in the area. Please be receptive that the store has a wonderful selection of most things but when it comes to things that an African American woman might want for her hair there is nothing to choose from. I work very hard a few years back with Spartan Stores to get this changed and I see now that is just not of importance to the management Personnel of this store. Also, if cashiers are going to check the ID of anyone buying alcohol make sure its everyone and not just anyone that doesnt quite look like they do.

Some of our friends rate the D&W Fresh Market as number 1 in Kalamazoo. In general we find it upmarket as compared to Meijer and other supermarkets in the locality, so we only buy there specialties such as oysters, clams, sea fish, grass-fed beef, and wine.

Higher caliber store brand; great selection of fresh produce and meat. Its a small building but they have the essentials. Also have a Starbucks in store and a sushi bar during the day. They have several easy to use self checkout lanes.
