Ive been here multiple times for many years and have had varying experiences. Some staff are rude while some are not. I went earlier this week to get some shoes and it was around lunchtime and no one was there. I ate lunch and came back about an hour later and there was now a closed sign. This store is not that easy to get to for me so I was very upset about that. Either there was an emergency, or business was slow so they just went home. I would like to think the former, but with some of the reviews of the staff I wouldnt be terribly surprised if it was the latter. So I went back today because I need the shoes for this weekend. I went in and was greeted nicely and asked what I needed help with. Then a lady helped me and was very patient and made nice conversation with me. I was very pleased with her. My review is just to show that you can have a good experience at this shop, although I have also had bad ones before.

Excellent staff, the owner is very nice and helpful. She measured my daughters foot and helped her pick out shoes. This was our first time here but we will be back for sure. They had a huge selection of leotards and dance wear. Very pleased!

As a stay at home dad, I was in a whole new world when my daughter started dance at the age of 3. She is now 9, and dances company 8-10 hours a week, plus conventions and competitions. Over the last 6 years, the staff at Costumes and Dancewear have been a godsend for me. They have helped us choose the right leotards, get the sizes right on her shoes, helped me with her hair, cover ups - just about anything to do with dance. As a dad in a world pretty heavily dominated by moms, I cannot speak highly enough of the help and assistance I have received from the ladies here. Yes, I know I can maybe save a dollar here or there buying stuff online, but I much prefer to support the local shop, particularly when they look after me so well.

Absolutely love this group of ladies. We are always in and out. They know exactly what we need even if we don’t ❤️. Not stuffy and extremely friendly.

I never leave bad reviews but the ladies in this store were so rude to my daughter and me, I was actually shocked. My daughter is taking dance for the first time and was so excited to get shoes for her class. The lady acted annoyed and put out by having to help us. They didn’t have her size in stock and she said “well I guess we will have to order them” ooook! I asked when they would be in and she she had no idea. Just incredibly unhelpful and rude! You are in a customer driven business catering to young girls, a smile and an ounce of kindness goes a long way. We won’t be back!

Staff were very helpful. I was able to get everything I needed for my daughters recital.

Unfriendly staff, not cheap prices, but they have the required parts for the local dance classes. Will only shop them when absolutely necessary.

Rude staff. We were told if the pants for our daughter did not fit then we would be able to exchange. Came back the following day to exchange and was rudely told we could not exchange. The two ladies that run the place puts themselves on a pedestal.

So friendly and knowledgeable it was a great experience for my granddaughters first dance class outfit you can say that theyve been doing this for years and they know what theyre doing

I dont like leaving bad reviews, but when I first went in the store there was this one lady who gave me such a bad vibe. She was just really rude and talked to me like I was an idiot. I was looking for dance shoes, and I told her that I was just starting to get into dance as a hobby so I didnt really know what shoes I should get, and so I asked for recommendations. So we eventually settled on these black jazz shoes. I gave them my shoe size, but the shoe was too big apparently, so they had to get my shoes from another one of their stores because they didnt have my size in stock. And so I came in the next day and the shoes still didnt seem to fit me so I had to keep coming back to try them on even though they had my shoe size. And I just got tired of driving there, and that one lady was really getting on my nerves with her attitude, so I just didnt come back. The other ladies in the store were really nice, it was just that one sourpuss. If youre new to dance and need recommendations on dance wear dont come here.

Weve been using Costumes & Dancewear for all my sons dancewear needs for about a decade. Weve always found the staff to be friendly and helpful. They are associated with several other dancewear stores around town, so if they dont have something in stock they are always able to get it quickly. Students in several dance companies around town receive a store discount.

They have great quality dance shoes and dance wear. They are very helpful with experienced dancers.

They are very nice and respect your decisions on what you want to buy

I agree with the other reviewers regarding poor customer service. My daughter (16 yr old) needed specific dance shoes and was referred to Costumes & Dancewear by her teacher. We went about 2pm on Saturday and was rudely greeted by a lady who didnt even bother standing, or coming out of a little cubby area, when we came in. At first she refused to size dance shoes, then rudely told us shed do it for $25. The way she came across was very impolite and off-putting. I felt like we just walked into a bar with some grumpy lady behind the counter serving you a drink w cigarette ashes in it. Haha. The dance outfits seemed cute at a quick glance but because of the ladys bad attitude we left without even looking around. Needless to say, we did not spend any $ there and would not recommend to anyone.

Absolutely terrible service! when I first walked in there were 3 RUDE ladies sitting down talking, when i came up to them and waved they looked away and continued talking pretending like i wasnt there. i had to say hello 3 times loudly until one of the rude lazy ladies got up to tell me that i was being rude interrupting them. i left and im not coming back again. dont come to this terrible store very rude ladys so unhelpful

Ok. These ladies make you feel like they are doing you a favor by selling you dance stuff, like if you were not going to pay for what you are getting. With bearly two steps into that store, one of the woman jumped at us saying that we need an appointment like if they were the point shoe doctors. Give me a break! You ladies should be thankful that people like us (proud latin 1000%) keep your business running. Would never ever recommend not even to my worst terrible enemies ever to get there to even buy a bobby pin. Absolutely TERRIBLE customer service. Discounts. Competition team members are supposed to get a discount. You know I do not expect certainly $100 doscount, no no no. But, when you are told at the register that your discount out of $80 is 70 freaking cents!!!!! WOW nojoda. That made my freaking day. No no no. These people really need to get back to business school. Absolutely not recommendable. Personally Im not coming back nor my family. If you do not want to work anymore, then sell the store to someone that really wants to do so.

VERY RUDE sales lady! This is the second and last time i go there, and got very bad customer service! The lady even screamed at me in front of the customers she could not understand the sizes I needed, and also was rude with my kids! The dance academy where we go has also heard several bad experiences and is not sending students there anymore!

We used to come here because the location is convenient but we were finally fed up with the rudness of the coworkers and mainly the owner, and have decided that the commute is worth it to another dance store in Houston.
