Always perfect and on time

Once you have the best mechanic for your vehicle, it is really hard to lower your bar. Now I moved to Seattle area, I struggle to find a good mechanic for my vehicles. I guess I have to blame Pete to set my expectation too high. Pete and his staff have been demonstrating the best and high degree of auto mechanic engineering skill for many years. Petes devotion to his customers and his extraordinary skill are not something we can easily find from even a bigger city. If I may said this way, La Crosse people are fortunate to have a world class skilled auto mechanic who knows well about automobiles but also understands what customers really want.As a new customers, You need to know one thing. Even with your proper appointment, you may wait a bit (or wait long). I assure you that it is worthy while to wait and get Petes service than other local fast and quick services. Even Mercedes, Lexus, BMW, or any high-end dealership with many outstanding customer service awards cannot match with Petes quality service.

I recently picked up a used car and was concerned about the maintenance it had received from the previous owner. I am proactive with maintenance and servicing and wanted to make sure the car was good to go..I tried scheduling a preventative maintenance service appointment at a dealership 2.5 hours away. They could not perform the maintenance services I had requested unless the vehicle was calling for them.I have been to Conway auto for service many times; they are busy for a reason. They performed all of my servicing and found issues I would have missed doing it myself. I have total trust in Conway auto.A big thank you to Pete and the crew!

I brought my car to Conway on a recommend from another mechanic who didnt have the appropriate scan tool for my car. The problem was poor fuel economy and a persistent gas smell. Conway, rather than simply telling me that they also lack the appropriate tool and had no interest in actually taking anything apart to diagnose the problem, charged me $180 to guess that I had a bad O2 sensor. Changed it solved nothing. Same story with several other sensors. Its now been three months, four visits and several hundred dollars later and they still havent diagnosed anything properly and still keep telling me to bring it back in so they can try another part. Pete actually had the audacity to tell me that he doesnt like to throw parts at cars, even though hes been doing that all summer long. After my last visit, where they just soldered a broken wire, my mileage dropped even further (16mpg from a 4cyl). It also was missing badly when I pulled away from the shop, something it has never done before. Another thing, if you are going to have work done there, get the part number from them and buy it yourself. Ive found every part theyve quoted me for 20-70% less at Autozone.

This is the most enthusiastic good rating I have ever given a business. Pete Conway and his crew are what everyone dreams of when seeking auto service. It would take a book to write all the good things I could say about them. They are the most skilled, honest, decent, and reasonably-priced source of service I have ever found in all the countries and states where I have lived. My friends, who are mostly professors, MDs, attorneys, and other folks with high expectations, all feel the same way. This has been true for all the 28 years since I moved to La Crosse, even before Pete started his own business. My insurance agent, when asked for recommendations as to places to do car repairs, gave me only one name -- Conway. I also know that Pete has provided funding for operations to correct cleft palates for a large number of kids who would otherwise have been doomed to a life of misery. The only problem I have ever had with them is having to wait a few days for service, because lots of people in La Crosse feel as the reviewers here do and keep Pete pretty busy, but as those other reviewers also point out, if customers are really in a bind, Pete will find a way to take care of them, even at the sacrifice of his own holidays. Since the reviewers here seem to all be male, I will add that, according to his female customers, Pete and his employees treat women as fairly as men. As with Eric below, the biggest job Conway Auto has done for me was replacing the timing belt on a 1999 six-cylinder Honda Accord, including the usual replacement of the aging water pump. They could easily have saved me a hundred dollars or so short-term, only to collect several times as much for the cost of another major teardown when the water pump gave up its ghost, as was likely to occur relatively soon, given the pumps age of more than a decade. La Crosse is a great place to live, and Pete Conway is one of the reasons it is so nice to live here.UPDATE: Pete has meanwhile retired. The business is closed. He sent a letter to customers saying that his employees and services have been entrusted to the Dahl company, a large local multiple car dealership and service provider.

Pete Conway has been a highly regarded VW mechanic since the 1960s. He was a mechanic at the local VW dealership that worked on my moms 65 VW bus and 71 VW 411 squareback and he remembers her and both cars!His shop now keeps my 03 VW Jetta GLS TDI wagon in the best shape possible. I have complete confidence in their ability to diagnose and correctly address any issue with the car.Please note: the shop is often booked 2-3 weeks in advance, but they will do their best to work you in to deal with pressing issues.
