Made a reservation back in mid April for a 17 truck for the last weekend of May. Needed the truck from a Sunday morning to Tuesday night. Got an email the Friday before I was to pick up the truck saying they have a 26 truck from Sunday afternoon to Monday afternoon. Not even close to what I reserved. Called the store and was told my reservation only reserves a phone call to tell me what they have. They then found another 26 truck 30 miles out of town that I could use from Sunday morning to Monday afternoon. Still not what I needed. They said they cant help if people dont return the truck I reserved on time or to the correct location, which is why they do the phone calls. I will never rent from U-Haul again. Thankfully their competitor had what I needed and was very helpful.
I could have put a no stars, but Ill give them a 1 for effort? I scheduled a hitch set up, they made the appointment, called to reschedule a week or so later. So far not bad... I dropped my car off the day before appointment and asked questions about the process/equipment. They said nothing about not even having the equipment in the building to do the install. Then they call me an hour before installation is set to begin and say the parts werent ordered, the manufacturer isnt even making the equipment due to the steel shortage, but they have 1 on back order for me. Cool. How none of this was noticed and relayed to me beforehand is baffling. Not impressed.
Never rent a Uhaul if you see rain in for the forecast! No matter what insurance you get they will not cover any rain damage. We are now our $2,500 for two mattresses that got wet in our move. Rep West said they tested our truck twice but when we asked for proof of the testing they couldn’t give us anything and when we asked if they put the truck through the same conditions the truck went through when we had it (24 hour of pouring rain one day, and rain during a 5 hour trip) I was told no by the Rep West lady abs that they ran a hose over it for a water test and then she couldn’t get her story right when it came to the light test. She first said they took the truck out at night and check for light with flashlights and then quickly changed her story to be that they take the truck out during the day and check for light coming into the truck. They were unable to find anything wrong with this truck so we are out the money. We know there had to have been a bead leak in the truck explaining why some of our stuff was soaked at the front and back but other stuff was perfectly dry. Oh another problem, we didn’t take our pictures of the damage with the items on the actual truck. The manager of the La Crosse store didn’t answer our email and we had to follow up with them because they have the worst customer service and can’t follow up with their customers. This same thought goes for the people at Rep West. Finally, without them saying the actual words they made statements to us that makes us believe they think we were trying to fraud them. Keep this in mind if you ever rent with Uhaul They have so many loopholes when it comes to rain that they will not help you in the event of something happening during your move.
Shelby is AWESOME!! After 30 mins on hold, then getting misinformation from general customer service because the local Uhaul was busy, I decided to try and call again. Shelby answered promptly and answered my questions. She also cleared the confusion and was very patient and understanding about my frustration. We look forward to doing business with you tomorrow. She even correctly confirmed a change I made to our reservation only minutes before. If all goes well we will be more than happy to use this location again to retrieve our items that are still out of state from our move to La Crosse last year!! Thank you for great customer service. My experience has been awful. The young lady working was as helpful as she could be, but it sure seemed as though she had very few resources to assist her. The manager was argumentative and unwilling to take the time to assist. I was never able to get an answer from this location when calling so had to make multiple stops only to find if what I needed was still not in as promised. I also had to follow up with them, they never took the initiative to call me.
Had what I needed in stock. Made sure it fit before I purchased it. Great service by the young lady at the sales counter. Thanks again.
They don’t honor reservations. You’re almost better off just going in and seeing what they have the day you need a truck. We reserved a 17’ truck for 10:00am pickup. Reserved a couple weeks in advance. Upon arrival, we waited 25-30 minutes to be helped, then were told there were no 17’ trucks available. However, there was one available, but the guy said we couldn’t have that one because someone was picking it up at noon. He told us to either wait for a truck to be returned (whenever that would be) or take a smaller truck. We took the smaller one because we were on a tight schedule, but ended up having to make two trips. Definitely would not recommend, and we won’t be back. Very little organization, it seems.
Person working just now has zero customer service skills. He asked where I parked the truck and I said right over there and he said you didn’t park it over here where the signs tell you to? I said it obviously not or I wouldn’t have parked it over there. I didn’t see any signs. I parked it where I always have in the past. He rolled his eyes, let out a huge sigh and drug himself to go and move it. So I told him I would move it myself. I’ve been here five times in the past and they have never told me that’s where I needed to park it, they don’t make it apparent that you need to park it there when you pick it up so obviously they need to do a better job of relaying that to the customer before hand.
Absolutely terrible experience. They messed up my reservation TWICE! I called and confirmed both times and they screwed it up both times. No sense of time management. Everyone I worked with was slow paced. When people move they have friends, family, or theyre paying people to help them move. Time constraints, etc.
No one contacted me to confirm reservation 24 hours prior per the rental agreement. Calling was useless, i tried twice and was on infinite hold both times. So i drove to the terminal.I found that i had been assigned an 15 truck rather than the 10 I reserved online. I was told a 10 was not available for my rental time block. MPG difference over the 400 miles I was driving would have increased my out of pocket cost by $30. I told them i wanted a discount of $30 to cover the extra fuel cost. Associate would not agree. I said i would be back to pick up the reserved vehicle the next day, or they should be prepared to somehow make up the $30 difference if I was assigned the alternative 15 truck.The 10 truck was ready when I arrived the next day. Worked out, but should have been easier.Checking back in upon my return was quick and easy. Vehicle performed well.It appears they are under staffed or making inefficient use of staff.
We reserved a 26’ truck for an 8am time slot five weeks prior to go when we needed the truck. The day before our reservation we received a confirmation email for a 15’ truck at a 1pm time slot. We spoke to multiple people through the 1-800 number with 20 minute hold times in between. We finally went down to the store to sort things out and they told us the 15’ truck was the best they could do because it was the closest size they had.

They used my middle name for the reservation which confused everyone else later on, transferred me multiple times and confused the communication center as to why I was being transferred or called in the first place, all to say my locker was supposed to be inspected with me there before I finished emptying it....then hung up on me. You get a little card you don’t even need to get into the unit (???? Literally never used it and they didn’t want it back). Took an hour to get a truck when we were the only ones there. They tried their best but need more training and experience.
The staff are very nice and knowledgeable. The place is clean, and they recently repaired the back parking lot area. There are plenty of trucks to choose from and they stock all your moving needs right in store. Get there early though, they do close at 7. Cameras are At many important areas I noticed, so if youre using their storage your items will be safe.
Went in to buy boxes. Only one person doing rentals, no one handling product sales. Walked out after 20 minutes of not being recognized and the line not moving. We weren’t the only ones who walked out. You need 2 people working on a Saturday.
I had reserved my Uhaul trailer 2 and a half months in advance. I received an email three days before my move notifying me that my case had been taken up by the Traffic Control Manager in Madison, WI. I then received a text two days before my move telling me that my reservation was moved to a different location. Turns out the new location was 45 minutes away from my moving location. When I contacted Jenna, the Traffic Control Manager, she tried several times to get me to cancel my reservation as if that was an option two days before I am supposed to move. When I asked if they could compensate for the gas I have to spend to drive an hour and a half out of my way to pick up the trailer they offered $10 off the trailer. When I said that would do me no go they said there was nothing else they could do. She in particular acted as if this was no big deal and was extremely rude and callous. If I had another option I would never rent from this company again. A company this big should never have these kinds of issues and should never expect their customers to pick up for their lack of ability to service them, especially two days before a move!
Paid cash at store and than after purchasing insurance still well over billed for a 1 day rental tried billing me for 12 days the key to the uhal wouldnt start the truck charged me to cut another key that would not start the truck and yet billubg me for a faulty truck.
Rented a enclosed trailer. Good price staff hooked me up and got the correct adapter for my taillights. Great service
I called in the morning upon my return at least 20 different times to speak with someone and never got a response. I did eventually get through to the call center, and they put me on hold for about an hour of which I eventually gave up. I was just trying to notify them that I would be late on my return due to some weather and safety concerns. Than when I arrived, the manager charged me a whole new day for being a few hours late due to weather conditions. my recommendations is to rent from a Penske, McCoy, or other company. Poor performance.
I had a terrible customer service experience at the Rose St. U-Haul in La Crosse. Being young, this was the first time I had ever had to rent a truck of any kind and wasnt sure how it would go. I found that the lady behind the desk was extremely condescending when attempting to answer the few questions I had. Never had such rude customer service anywhere before. As if moving for the first time by myself between two shifts of work wasnt stressful enough, apparently I should have also known everything there is to know about U-Haul and how it works before I got there. As far as the equipment goes, everything ran smoothly but just wasnt enough for me to overlook the terrible customer service experience I had. I will not be using the La Crosse U-Haul again in the future.
This place has absolutely no management and directly lies to you. Its a shame that they are conducting business this way. I ordered a hitch to be installed and the employee told me it would be in 3 to 5 days. Well after numerous calls and being told the same thing over and over for a month and the manager saying he would correct the situation, still no follow up or none the less, a hitch. Wtf?!? I will be reporting this to the district manager and better business bureau.
Omg worst costumer service ever!!! The staff were to instruct how to use hitch and just stood there not giving any help at all. The guy stood and watched the hitch tear off our bumper. Then refused to $$ even though we never left the lot.
Returned a uhaul and was in and out quickly. Hats off to the employee who graciously backed up the uhaul for my son. Apparently the Masters degree in business my son has didn’t include a class on backing up trailers.
The lady who runs this place needs to find another line of work.

A few years ago my mother and I rented a u haul to go pick up a couch and about 1/4th of the way there the side view mirrors moved out of place from not being tightened enough. This happened about 5 more times within a few minutes after another making the vehicle unsafe so we turned around to get a refund but was still expected to pay for the unsafe vehicle

They made a difficult situation worse and more complicated than needed, argued most of the time we were there yet we managed to get what we needed between the trailer they had and a harbor freight near by. the young male know it all came close to getting knocked the F out! Incredibly lousy service. They lost my reservation, and never made it right. I had a trade show to haul 5000 pounds of equipment to, and they really put me in a bind.

Promised me a truck at 8-9am, 12 hours before a friend was going to pick it up, they moved it to 4:30. Now they are telling me that I have to get the truck from somewhere else and they wont even computer the extra miles. Terrible, service dont trust these people.
