I am a retired engineer and amateur auto service person (all my cars and some others) experienced with most operations except body work and full engine/transmission rebuild. Im now too old, decrepit, fat, and (very) lazy to do much of that anymore.I found California Star to be competent, trustworthy, honest, and reliable. I depend on them to tell me what they can and cant/wont do, and not lead me on as a few others have -- including myself mired down into automobile swamp projects I should have let pros do.

The team at California Star were amazing at keeping my 2006 Audi A4 convertible in tip top shape! They diagnosed unusual electrical problems and solved them at a reasonable price. Example - the electric passenger seat brain box had a small short and was draining electricity from the battery while the car was off - leading to new batteries going dead within a month. They found the part at a used parts yard - and it worked beautifully. I highly recommend California Star!

There are many reasons California Star has been in business in Lafayette for so long. Bill and his crew care about doing the job right, at a fair price, and on time. And, they are honest about when work is necessary and when not. I have twice called to have my car serviced and been told not to bring it in yet, unless there is a specific problem. Cal Star has experienced mechanics and equipment to take good care of my Audi. They provide this care at a fraction of what the dealer charges. And they are convenient here in Lafayette; they even provided me with a ride home. My latest visit he fixed a headlight in 10 minutes flat. They know what they are doing.

I had a 2001 E320 that has been under the great care of Bill and his team for more than 10 years. It has more than 300K and still running smoothly thanks to the service I got from this shop. I have a newer one that is off warranty. This new one will be in California Stars care from now on. Bill, Chris and his team are the real stars in keeping all my cars operating smoothly. They are the only team I can trust, even better than the dealership.

They have given competent and trustworthy service for an experience amateur repair technician now too old, decrepit, fat, and lazy to do it myself anymore. I also am too cheap (and too poor) to buy the expensive diagnostic needed for infrequent repair of just one BMW, even if I wasnt so decrepit and lazy.

My 2010 A6 needed some serious help, and Bill & Adam were great to deal with. Upfront, transparent, professional. Adam was extremely knowledgeable about Audis, and I felt great about leaving my car in his care. These guys are your go-to for any service needed for your German car.

I found California Star because I broke my trunk latch and went to the body place down the street to try and get it fixed. There was no one there that day to help me, but the receptionist sent me down the street to California Star. Not only did a charming young man (who turned out to be a former classmate of my daughters) fix my trunk for free, the boss invited me to a party that Friday! Needless to say, I was hooked. Since then I have had nothing but excellent service. I feel completely comfortable stopping by if I have concerns. I would never go anywhere else! I wouldn’t consider bringing my admittedly aging ML320 anywhere else. If there’s a repair that can wait, they let me know. Suggested some inexpensive upgrades that made a big difference, too. I would recommend them to any Mercedes owner without hesitation.Just to emphasize my point, this is the first review I’ve ever given a business. They’re that good.

When was the last time you worked with an honest and competent repair shop? These guys tell you like it is. We were accustomed to having our Mercedes serviced every 2,500 miles because of the fog and the hills in San Francisco. After moving here, CA Star told us to wait until the service light came on on the dash. Well 2 years and 15,000 miles later it came on.Then we had a major job done and it was finished in a day.Get over there right now!

I started taking my 1997 E320 to Bill and Chris and California Star. They have always been honest and fair and they stand behind their work. I have had two other Mercedes since then. I would never take my car to anyone else. They also helped my mom find her Mercedez E320 and serviced it for her.

California Star does it all. Repairs our BMW and Mercedes and our 1960 Ford Truck and 1968 MGB. They have been doing them for years, do an excellent work at a fair price and that is why we keep coming back.

I have taken my year 2000 BMW to California Star for service as soon as the manufacturers warranty expired. They provide excellent service at a cost generally far less than a BMW service depot. I have recommended friends who complained about the high cost of the official BMW agents, and without exception, thanked me for the referral to California Star. Today, my 528i passed the 208,000 mile mark! Dec. 2018, i now have over 228,000 miles on it and California Star is absolutely the best service company I have found. I still recommend them to my friends as the place to go! I now have 234,700 miles on it and a Valet parking agent a couple of months ago when we picked up the car could not believe either the age or condition of the vehicle. It still is tight and quiet!!

California Star did a Pre-Purchase Inspection on a SL55 I was looking at buying. Bill was fantastic to work with. We talked about the condition of the car and he also wrote up a nice report that he emailed to me. I wish I was more local so I could take my cars to California Star for service.
