If youre reading through reviews looking for a sign - STOP! This is your sign! We did a beginners/private dive with Michael. This was my 12 year old daughters first time diving. She was very intimidated and shy. Michael was outstanding and made her feel completely comfortable throughout the entire process. Michaels calm, easy going demeanor helped guide us easily through what could easily have been a daunting process. We had his undivided attention, he wasnt rushed, he was a very fun guide! We did a 45 minute in person meeting where he went over all the details, fitted us for the necessary equipment, and then we drove to the first shore dive location. Here we did a very easy going shore dive where we were able to easy in as if we were simply snorkeling, then after feeling comfortable, descended underwater for about 45 minutes. We opted in for the second dive at Mala Ramp, which I HIGHLY recommend! The sunken pier has turned into a natural habitat covered in coral where you will find yourself swimming next to lots of turtles, very mellow reef sharks, gorgeous tropical fish, among many other beautiful sights! Dont pass up Banyan Tree Divers, you can completely trust them and I will definitely book with them every time I return to Maui! Aloha!

Abby was awesome! My wife has a phobia to scuba, Abby took the time and effort to ease her under the water slowly and confidently! Thank you for working with her, now I may have the best scuba partner ever!Then to top it all off she took the rest of us an an amazing adventure around the Mala pier. We did three dives with Banyan Tree while on Maui. Each dive was excellent. We were fitted with gear at the house which allowed us to be sure all equipment fit and was comfortable. They provided the gear we didnt already have. Extremely calm, patient and knowledgeable dive master. Abby has dived all over the world and her extensive experience was evident. She provided a thorough review of safety, site conditions and dive plan prior to each dive. Dive master was attentive but not crowding us once she saw we were okay without that level of support. Abby took the time to find and point out all kinds of life and ensure we got to see everything. We opted for pictures and got a whole drive of pictures of the dive, close ups of coral and fish, and of us. Overall 5 star experience! We will dive with them again next time we are in Maui.

Our guide was Chris and he was great! Very kind, personable and patient with us! It is a small company run by locals…. 3 couples I believe. We had a group of 4 and it was just us with the instructor, not sure what the group limit is at this time (COVID-19 regulations) I think the hardest part for us newbies was getting used breathing with a regulator. At the beginning, we found ourselves wanting to go back to the surface for “real air,” but once we got the hang of it, it was awesome!! Chris sort of had us all reset and then we all went down together, nice and smooth. We went ahead and added on a second dive right after the first, at a different site, also added the pictures and were so glad we did! :) Saw lots of fish (of course), corral, eel, reef shark. Great intro course if you’ve never scuba’d before.

We found Banyan Tree Divers Maui while looking for an introductory/discover scuba class on a recent trip to Maui. They deserve all the praise they have received. Our instructor was Kevin and he couldnt have been more fun and confidence inspiring with our dive party (three others and our party of two). With clear explanations, no pressure to perform things we werent comfortable with once in the water, and the ability to make everyone feel comfortable regardless our individual needs as first timers, Kevin made it feel as if you could be on your way to your own PADI certificate or just having a relaxing time exploring the ocean in a way you have to experience to believe it possible. A welcome surprise was the ability to purchase our dive pictures via dropbox so we could share them instantly with family & friends. Banyan Tree will be our recommendation to anyone visiting Maui for scuba diving.

Amazing experience! They were able to take a reservation last minute. We booked a 5 person private lesson and were first time divers. Our instructor went through the whole process very thoroughly. Amazing diving experience with Banyan Tree Divers! I did the private scuba dive for 2 with my daughter. This was our first dive after being certified and Caitlin took care of every detail to make it an exceptional experience. We dove in Kahekili Beach and Mala pier. Definitely the highlight of the dive were the whitetip reef sharks. Next time we are in Maui we will be diving with BT for sure. Thanks Caitlin!!!

My partner and I did the private instructor dive and my sister had advised us to do the add on extra dive and WOW, this was an experience of a lifetime. Neither of us had much experience diving. Our instructor Abby was amazing and also took some of the most beautiful photos (which were all shared with us). Thoroughly enjoyed diving with Banyan Tree Divers. Did two shore dives with them after a two year break from scuba. They made us so comfortable returning to diving and immediately rebuilt our confidence on the first dive. The second dive to mala pier was one of the best shore dives we’ve done, due to the ease, sights and wildlife. Great instructors and a great experience.

This was our 2nd discover dive and the 2nd in Maui. The first one a few days earlier was an abject failure, so much so that I was dreading going out again and was a complete mess when we arrived at the Banyan Tree Headquarters. That all changed immediately as our dive instructor for the day, Chris, was as calm and reassuring as I couldve ever hoped. He spent 45 minutes going over the particulars in extreme detail to the point that Id completely forgotten how knotted up my stomach was. Once we arrived at the dive site, more instruction ensued and you just really felt empowered about the whole thing. You knew exactly what was going to happen so you were never left processing something in the moment because you already knew it was coming. I cannot tell you how important that is. Anyway, I could go on for days but suffice it to say that Chris is Thee Man. We will be seeing him again, dude was amazing. For real for real.PS, pay for the video/photo package. Ive been visiting Maui and diving with Caitlin and Kevin at Banyan Tree Divers for years. They continue to be the friendliest and most experienced local small-business dive operation on the the island! I recently was lucky enough to bring a friend on her first dive with Caitlin who is an amazing instructor and put all of her nerves at ease. We had a great dive with hardly anyone out there but us and the Hawksbill turtles. It felt amazing to get under the water again and I want to thank Caitlin for making our dive experience so easy and fun. Please go support local small businesses in Maui next time you visit. They need our love and support during these times as business starts to reopen, diving is a great activity you can do social-distanced!

Diving can be a mixed bag, but not at Banyan Tree. Our experience was consistently positive. We are certified divers and did two days of diving with Abby as our guide. She is super experienced with over 5,000 dives. I heard about this shop from a friend who is a repeat customer. He didnt steer us wrong!The first day we did a shore dive followed by Mala. The 2nd day we just did Mala. Everyone at this shop was relaxed, professional, and safe. We met at headquarters and they verified our certification cards (good!), interviewed us about our dive experience, filled out paperwork (medical and liability release), went over the dive plan for the day, and picked up the gear we needed from the garage. Rental gear is included in the trip cost.At the beach Abby took the time to orient us to the wildlife wed likely see and how to protect it. She made sure we did a thorough buddy check before we got in the water (not my experience at another shop in town) for safety - good!In the water at the shore dive Abby was super busy, switching seamlessly between finding and guiding us to some of the coolest animals, to helping divers who were having buoyancy issues, keeping track of air for everyone in the group, and taking amazing pictures all the while (it costs extra but is well worth it to get the pictures and have your memories). There was a diver with us who was struggling and Abby was nothing but supportive, helpful, and kept the diver safe. You could tell she was also evaluating everyones diving to see if it would be safe to take us to the next site. Smart.Out of the water Abby reviewed the dive with us and had tips for improving our diving (fine tuning weights, buoyancy, trim and building safe diving habits).At the next site, Mala, Abby gave a thorough orientation of the site, entry and exit procedure, potential hazards, and the dive plan. Once in the water we had a short lesson on how to swim backwards with fins (fun and tricky!) since wed asked about that. We saw turtles, white tip reef sharks, a white and black eel/snake-like fish, a camouflaged frogfish and many other critters. Without Abby guiding us we would have overlooked many of them.Our 2nd dive at Mala the following week was just as good with similar sights, we even got to see a couple of fish guarding their clutch of eggs (you could see the fish embryos inside and their eyes!).During the whole process we never felt rushed or like just another customer. Abby, Kevin and Caitlin took the time to answer any questions we had. By the end of our dives not only did we see amazing animals, but we had a better appreciation for the ecology of the reef and we were better, safer divers less likely to hurt ourselves or harm the reef. Abby took dozens of pictures during all 3 dives and promptly shared them via an email link to Dropbox.The rental BCDs, fins, wetsuits and booties (not all shops include booties, they make for much more comfortable open heel fin swimming and shore entries and exits, glad they were included) were all in good working order.Note that for average sized women they seem to default to setting you up with a smaller (not 80 cf, maybe 65?) tank which worked fine for my wife and I (my air PSI consumption rate on an 80 matched hers on the smaller tank). This is nice because it is less bulky and less weight to schlep up and down the beach. But if you are a woman who prefers a larger tank or you know you go through a lot of air you might want to ask for an 80.One tiny thing that they could potentially improve is the tank maintenance. Many of them had tiny leaks (champagne bubbles) or a bit of trouble getting a secure seal to the first stage of the regulator without fiddling. It might make dive setup a bit quicker and easier if Banyan Tree replaced their tank valve o-rings more often. Many of the o-rings were showing their age.All in all our experience was great, wed definitely recommend this outfit for new or experienced divers and would visit again next time were in Maui.

We had a great time with Banyan Tree Divers! We are fairly new divers, but Abby made us feel comfortable. Their rates are really reasonable, and they make it so easy to just show up and enjoy your dives.Mala Pier is my absolute favorite dive Ive ever done. I lost track of how many turtles we saw, but it had to be at least 15 in 45 minutes, plus a big white tip reef shark and a couple cleaning stations. Pure magic!

I did the Guided Shore Dive with Kevin. What an amazing day!! I consider myself a novice diver and the most important thing for me is feeling safe. Kevin has an easy going and fun personality, but he takes safety very seriously and I felt comfortable right away. I appreciated the small dive group, (and that is not a given for all companies), quality equipment and positive vibes. I was able to observe several other dive companies in Lahaina this weekend which left me even more grateful for my experience with Banyan Tree Divers.If I make it back to Maui, I will definitely do another dive with Banyan Tree Divers and recommend them to anyone who wants to have an enjoyable and safe dive experience in Maui.

My husband and I took the introductory scuba diving class and we loved every minute of it- from going through the basics to diving down to look at fish and the ocean life. I was nervous in the beginning, and our instructor Chris was very patient and guided me through individually. He made sure I felt comfortable which was what I needed to enjoy the experience. We didn’t have a car, so after the diving, Chris actually took the extra mile to drive us to downtown Lahaina and gave us lunch recommendations. I highly recommend Banyan Tree Divers for both professionalism and hospitality.

Our instructor Mike was funny, personable, professional and REAL. He broke it down for us in the class before the dive, walked us through how to communicate, checked on us frequently, and was RIGHT THERE at the first sign of any struggle. The experience at banyan tree is absolutely incredible. From the communication with Caitlin in our initial booking, to diving instructions and lessons with Mike, it really can’t be more perfect. Our instructor Mike has made the whole experience so much more fun and educational, and he is clearly super passionate and adept at what he does. The lessons were amazing and he made me feel safe and confident despite it’s my first time. Back before the world shut down, my girlfriend and I were able to go scooter diving with Banyan Tree Divers! Excellent experience and a must for all experienced and skilled divers! It took some time to get use to using the scooters and figuring out your buoyancy but Caitlin and Kev are excellent instructors! Very informative and helpful with any questions and concerns with the scooters. We had excellent visibility and were able to see so much of the reef thanks to the scooters, as well as turtles and a spotted eagle ray! 10 out of 10 would recommend!

There are numerous people to dive with when visiting Maui. Look no further! I was hoping for a fantastic dive when I started looking and that is exactly what we received. It was my daughter’s first dive since becoming certified. Caitlin took us on two shore dives and they were amazing! Caitlin was very knowledgeable, friendly, patient, and helpful. My girlfriend and I booked our first intro to scuba course after using some Google-fu and boy were we glad to go through BTD (Banyan Tree Divers). The session was led and taught by Annika who was friendly, knowledgeable, and most importantly very calm and easygoing during the dive.The initial hour is to go through the basics and rules on land before going into the dive for the next hour. Before going any deeper, Annika ensures that you can perform the intro skills and rules under water before heading further into the ocean. During our dive we were able to see a plethora of marine life, including tropical fish, sea turtles, and a whitetip reef shark (theyre harmless 😉)For any future trips to Maui we will definitely go through BTD for any future dives. Their perfect 5-star review is nothing to be skeptical about, you will not be disappointed 🙂

Its a really great mom and pop dive shop. I did my research and they had the best combination of low prices and good reviews in Maui. We met at someones house in a cozy neighborhood to go over the pre-dive logistics and did the actual dive in Kahekili Beach Park. Our instructor, Mike, was really great and kept the atmosphere fun! Sadly, we did not see any turtles but the water was really clear the day we dove.

These guys are the best. Best guide I have ever had on any vacation will definitely use them again! If you are on Maui you got to look them up and schedule a dive. It was so good we scheduled a another dive for our vacation.

Banyan Tree Divers is the best place for diving on Maui. We had the best 2 dives today with Caitlin and Kevin. My daughter and I are certified divers and chose to do private dives. Caitlin took great care of us, not only leading us to the best spots, but took incredible photos of both of us with sea turtles, white tip reef sharks, and spotted moray eels!! Kevin took a larger group with mixed abilities, who also had a similarly incredible experience. They have brand new gear and take great care to make sure you have everything you need for an unforgettable trip. Make sure you ask for local restaurant recommendations after your dive. Our family loves to dive and will make an annual trip somewhere to dive. We have dove all over and in 2020, our trip we had like everyone else’s, was cancelled. We had a trip early in 2021 to Kauai that was also cancelled. We were able to rebook to Maui a few months later. Because of this, it had been almost two years since we have dove. I started looking for dive shops on Maui and found Kevin at the Banyan Tree Divers and based on his reviews, decided to call him. After talking to him for a few minutes, was able to get a two tank dive scheduled for our family. The night before the dive, I get a call from Kevin suggesting we push the dive a day or two because of a storm surge that has affected visibility. He was able to work around our crazy schedule to get us out a little earlier in the morning. Our Dive Master was Chris and he was amazing. Chris took us to two locations and we were able to see some amazing marine life. My kids rated it as one of their favorite dives and they have dove some pretty amazing places. My husband booked this trip on a whim based on the great reviews. The reviews did not lie! This was an excellent first dive experience for us! Caitlin made sure we had the knowledge we needed and felt comfortable before stepping foot in the water. I had some anxiety at first and Caitlin walked me through it with patience, the anxiety quickly disappeared. We did two dives and both were phenomenal! The amount and diversity of sea life we saw were incredible! Thanks Caitlin for the great first dives! We look forward to many more dives in the future!!

Diving with Banyan Tree Divers ( Caitlin ) was by far the most amazing experience we had during our trip to Maui. We saw a bunch of turtles, reef sharks and plenty of fishes. Our total package included 2 dives ( first dive for skills and reefs, second dive as an add on for plenty of fish and the photo package) .It was small group as it was only 3 of us and Caitlin was our instructor. she was very patient and amazing in teaching the necessary skills to go under. The lessons were great and made it a second nature for us so we could enjoy swimming with the turtles and fish. I would definitely recommend this activity for any one visiting Maui.

Since it was our first time, we choose the private dive option, and the experience was amazing. Kevin was with us all the way, and led us to see fishes, turtles, coral. We were affected by the weather storms in Maui, but Kevin not only accommodated us to a different date, but also shared his thoughts on the weather conditions, helping us plan other Maui adventures properly. Another vendor cancelled on us because the conditions were not good and these guys arranged to take us out on almost no notice at all. They did an AWESOME Job!!! Chris was amazing. My wife would have stopped this adventure two minutes into it. She was DONE!!! Great instructors and great dive sites! I had a fantastic experience with Banyan Tree Divers. I found them online at 8pm and was able to book a dive for the next AM. I only planned on one dive, but Caitlin was such a great instructor, and it was such an amazing experience I did a 2nd dive. The first was mostly coral and fish, but the 2nd had a ton of wildlife, sharks, turtles, crabs, and more. It was a dive of a lifetime.

As a first time diver, I cant recommend this group enough! Kev made learning fun and easy, and helped us remain confident in our abilities to handle the different practice situations we worked through under water before beginning the fun parts of the dive. We were referred to them by some certified diver friends, who really enjoy diving with them as well! So based on that, Id recommend Banyan Tree Divers for all levels.

My wife and I did the beginners course. We had never been diving before and had been a while since we last went for a swim. The instructors were super professional and very experienced. We had a wonderful experience. Right after our first dive we were given an option to do a second one. We got to see fishes, corals, large turtles and many other under water creatures. Our intro dive with Banyon Tree was the best experience during our family trip. We had four first time tweens and I would have bet we’d have issues with one or two. Instead, Caitlin and Chris were kid whisperers. They all did great and loved it. I couldn’t have been happier with our day and how Caitlin and Chris worked with the kids to make sure they each loved their first dive. I did a dive the day prior with another seemingly top ranked shop and they were a clown show compared to Banyon Tree. Disorganized, aged equipment, clumsy dive leadership. Talking to Caitlin and Chris about their diving experience and travels was incredible. You’re in the very best hands with Banyon Tree. I’ve family visiting in a few weeks and given how well this went, I am 100% certain they’ll love it too.

We have tried many of the dive shops around Maui and we will not be trying any more. Banyan Tree Divers were wonderful to work with and provided one of the best dives we have done. Everything about the experience was easy and pleasant. Scheduling our session online was straight forward and no hassle. Caitlin contacted us 24 Horus prior to our dive to go over details and then followed that up with an email on the details we agreed upon. Caitlin as a dive master was wonderful. She was very pleasant, a lot of fun, and obviously knew her stuff. She was great about ensuring we were refreshed on our diving skills and then just ensuring we had a great time under the water. Caitlin was knowledgeable of the locations we visited, attentive to us as divers, and made the most of the dive itself. She even took great photos of our dive that we happily purchased. We loved the experience with her so much we immediately signed up for a second dive.We briefly met Kevin as he was attending to a different dive group but he seemed just as pleasant and knowledgeable as Caitlin. The service was beyond anything I could imagine (after the dive we discussed hidden food gems in Maui and received great lunch recommendation!).We will definitely be utilizing Caitlin and Banyan Tree Divers again. My only complaint is that they only do shore dives (and that is only because I would love to do all my diving with them!). If you are looking for a dive in Maui Banyan Tree Divers are a must.

First of all, holy cow was this cool. Kevin was super friendly and instructive, definitely knew his way around the beach (plus where to find some neat sea critters!), and was amazing at introducing confidence building techniques for new divers.You can tell they truly care for the environment here as well, he took the time to clean up what he could from the reef while we swam, and I even learned a little about what they do to help keep the ocean clean talking to him after the dive.Mahalo for the memories and a desire to do it all again, if I ever get the chance, Banyan Tree Divers will definitely be my first choice!

We did 2 shore dives with Kevin and it was amazing! We rented gear from them and it was great gear and had everyone’s sizes. We saw all sorts of fish, turtles, sharks and could hear the whales. Kevin was extremely helpful and enthusiastic about everything. We looked around and for the price and being a private group I don’t see why you would go with anyone else. It was an amazing time and highly recommend Banyan Tree Divers!

Really great dive company. Caitlin really knows what shes doing - shes an excellent dive master. She takes safety first and kept a good eye on everyone in the group to be sure everyone was safe and comfortable.. Kevin and Caitlin are awesome, laid back, and fun to be around. Kevin was my dive master and made it interesting for me to do a refresher course. He picked good sites, was laid back enough to let us all do our thing, but also supportive in making sure we got the training we needed. He has an eagle eye to spot all of the interesting sea life to look at (e.g. sharks, scorpion fish, giant sea turtles, etc.) and makes sure to get our attention.

This was my second time diving with Banyan Tree Divers and I am already looking forward to my next dive with them when back on Maui. We saw countless sea turtles, schools of tropical fish, and even an octopus! This was an amazing experience all the way around. Caitlin expertly guided us through one of the best beach dive sites in Maui (6 minutes away from the hotels in Kaanapali). She was super patient, incredibly knowledgeable and friendly with us all the way around. You could tell she really enjoys her job. We ended up seeing beautiful fauna and flora throughout our dive, including a sea turtle towards the end. After the dive, I was a bit dehydrated and exhausted (totally my bad on that one). Caitlin was good enough to get me some water from one of her own bottles and a berry bar, which fixed me right up! Talk about going above and beyond the call of duty.Im definitely going back to these guys for my next dive. I might even sign up for another one in a couple of days, because I liked it so much.

I bought the introductory dive as a birthday present for my girlfriend. I chose to join her and try to face my phobia of the ocean, it was one of the best experiences of my life!We had Caitlin as our dive instructor, she was so patient! She had me down on the ocean floor in only a few minutes. Her calm and patient approach got me over my nerves and a small panic attack in minutes and even me going for a second afternoon dive!The first dive was at Airport beach where we saw some amazing coral, fish, eels and octopuses.The second dive was at Mala Wharf; this was a life changing experience! We swam with turtles, saw reef sharks and some of the most amazing ocean life!I would highly recommend these guys to anyone interested in learning to dive, or even if you are experienced and just looking for some good local knowledge on the conditions and dive sites!

I highly recommend Banyan Tree Divers. It was my family’s first dive in the ocean after being certified and we couldn’t have been more impressed. Caitlin and Kevin were excellent guides. They are very kind, patient and knowledgeable. Their passion and excitement for diving is highly contagious and inspiring! Despite a long week of rough weather and a large group of varying age ranges and experience, they knew exactly how to tailor the dive so that our entire group could experience the reef and turtles at Olowalu. Kevin is the best instructor we had our entire trip! We did several big activities during our stay on Maui and the experience we received during our scuba expedition topped every other activity! Kevin was very thorough and informative during our very first scuba dive. He made sure we were comfortable with the gear and how to use it, informed us of all safety precautions, and best of all, captured so many wonderful photos and videos for us. He stayed patient when we struggled and encouraged us to keep pushing when we were frustrated. During our dive, we were fortunate enough to see 2 green sea turtles and even a hawkbill turtle! Having Kevin for our instructor made the whole experience stress-free and magical. Thank you for the fantastic dive!! Second time diving with Caitlin, the owner of Banyan Tree Divers Scuba, and she is amazing! Could not be happier with our experience with her both times. She has so much diving experience, she makes you feel safe, and knows and cares so much about the ocean life you get to experience underwater. I loved how personal the whole experience was with them and we never felt like we were with a big tourism company trying to squeeze us for money at the lowest cost. They clearly care A LOT about what they do!

Awesome experience! Little bit pricier than their competition but worth it for the two day certification course. Kev keeps the learning atmosphere relaxed and positive but places a real emphasis on safety! Great way to learn scuba, I only wish I had done it sooner :)

Had a great dive with Caitlin at the Mala boat ramp, Her and Kevin are extremely knowledgeable of the islands dive spots. Perfect for beginning divers or experienced divers like myself wanting to have a local expert guide. Within 10 minutes of descending we saw two turtles. She even got some great shots of me with her camera. I highly recommend booking them!!

Had a wonderful two shore dives with Caitlin, who is a wonderful diving guide and extremely open and flexible for her customers. It is refreshing to dive with a small and personal dive centre and they were even able to come pick me up since I did not have my own means of transportation. I was very nervous to dive as it had been 15yrs since my last time, when I actually got certified. Kevin was extremely patient and thorough, making sure our entire party felt comfortable. He went over every detail, brushing up on our skills and made sure to answer every one of our questions.Upon our decent I had a really hard time with anxiety and wanted to turn back to shore. He wouldn’t give up on me, after coaching me through 3 different attempts he got me to sooth my mind and calm my breath and continue the dive. I have never experienced anxiety before with anything other than diving and I can’t thank Kevin enough for pushing me past that mental hump. He is extremely professional and a great coach.Our dive was amazing, sea turtles, frog fish, beautiful schools of fish, even a few white tipped reef sharks!Thanks Kevin so much!!
